- Josh (10/5): - Host was extremely friendly and went out of his way to help us, recommending an excellent local restaurant for dinner and even dropping us off there. Lovely location and comfortable room
- Gillian (9/5): Host couldn’t do enough for us everything clean and nice hot brekky - Old fashioned charm, nice and clean with probably the best host I have had the pleasure to deal with Nothing really, a trudge downstairs to the toilet maybe but that’s the only thing to maybe irk us!! But still fab
- Judith (8/5): - Great location and plentiful breakfast. Matches description on Booking.com well. Very friendly host.
- M.Alba (9/5): - Darren was very friendly and kind. It's like going to a friend's house.
- Charis (6/5): Pleasant - Darren was helpful and kind, both allowing me to do laundry and dropping me back off at the trail the next day to avoid the dangerous road. I wish the shared restroom had been cleaner. A fan in the room would have made the night more comfortable.
- Pablo (10/5): Totally recommended - Very kind host. Comfortable room
- Toby (8/5): Very comfortable - Darren was extremely thoughtful and helpful during our stay Nothing to note
- Ritu (10/5): Exceptional - Darren was a fantastic host Nothing
- Matilda (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and helpful host, nice room and great location. Home from home!
- Andrew (9/5): Great location for walking Hadrian's Wall Path, with an engaging and very helpful host. - The property is a historic cottage adjoining similar cottages. The host Darren lives there too and we couldn't have asked for a more helpful person and someone so ideally suited to the role! He kindly dropped us off in the village for a meal in the evening and then arranged our lift back with a friend. In the morning, he kindly dropped us off at the bus stop as the main road lacks a pavement. We arrived a couple of early as we took a shorter route due to the heat wave but Darren had the rooms ready and was excellent company.
- Viv (9/5): Pretty cottage with cosy rooms. Darren is a great host and makes you feel at home. - Great location for the Wall and Corbridge. Darren was very welcoming and god company and the room was cosy and there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Great value for money. Due to the age of the cottage, I didn't realise the bathroom was downstairs - but this is only a minor inconveniance in reality. There wasn't anything i didn't like.
- Roderic (8/5): Very good -
- Charlotte (9/5): Great pit stop, everything you need - Great location close to the Hadrian's Wall path; had everything you need to rest and get ready for the next day of walking. Darren was a fantastic host, accommodating, great company and even picked up at Portgate off the path and dropped back the following morning. Cooked a lovely breakfast in the morning as well (:
- Martje (9/5): Darren was a great host, with a friendly chat. - It’s an old house with character.
Darren is very friendly and made us feel at home. He was very accommodating. He cooked us a nice pasta meal. In the morning he gave us a lift back to Hadrians wall path, to avoid us walking along the busy road. We did lots of chatting. Was very nice to meet him.
- Joseph (9/5): Give the place a shot. I’m Darren will help in any way possible - Loved the property and the host / owner is a great person. Really helped me out with a few drive abouts. This place may not be for everyone but the 2 bedrooms would work really greatfor 2 travellers. Where you could have separate rooms. Older stone cottage between Corbridge and the Effering Cafe at the entrance to the path. Darren the host also plays guitar and piano. So we had some good times playing music. A bit older and dated but a cool place to crash. Darren makes up for any deficiencies.
- Rick (10/5): Darren is the most accommodating and gracious host I’ve ever met in travels over the years! - Darren was the quintessential “Best Host Ever”! Nothing
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): Superb - The host was exceptional. Thoughtful, helpful and very good company Setting is unique and may not suit all. But it was brilliant for us and most memorable
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacob (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet, clean and comfortable
- Belinda (10/5): Very friendly host that did everything to make our stay good. - Homely
- Matthew (10/5): Much needed friendly host after a hard day's walking - Darren was incredibly hospitable and good company. The room was spacious and comfortable and his advice on my route for the following day was invaluable.
- Mary (6/5): Interesting, personal and homely - Darren was very friendly and trusting. He left all the ingredients for us to prepare our own breakfast as he had to go out. We were happy to do that. It would have been lively to have our own bathroom near our bedroom, but we knew when we booked that this was not possible.
- Dr. (10/5): Exceptional -
- Walton (10/5): Exceptional - Darren was an excellent host, very friendly with interesting conversations.
A comfortable room - actually 2 rooms, one with a double and an attached room with bunks.
A good hot shower
A good range of breakfast food and drinks. Darren also offered to cook in the evening.
A nice setting just a little way south of Hadrian's Wall
- Nicolette (10/5): Home from home - Home from home! Both the home and the host have real character - it was great chatting, and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening walk in beautiful surroundings.
- Jorge (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (7/5): Interesting. A farm cottage. Off the beaten track. - The host is charming / convivial and makes up for the deficiencies in the property e.g bathroom not en suite, breakfast minimal. Wholesome dinner prepared by the host. The bathroom is run down.Shower inadequate, toilet bowl antiquated. Breakfast could be more substantial.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Jan (10/5): We had a fantastic stay. - Darren is a great host. You stay at his place and share the living room, kitchen and toilet/shower with him. During our stay, we had the luxury of two bedrooms. One to sleep in and one for our (backpacking) stuff. The day before our stay, Darren contacted me to ask for our time of arrival. After my reply, he offered to cook us an evening meal, which turned out to be delicious. We had a very pleasant afternoon and evening with Darren, which he enjoyed as much as we did. Although not bad, Darren could improve breakfast by offering higher quality bread/sandwiches and a wider choice of bread spread.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Vincent (8/5): A bit cold for foreigners but very warm welcome - Wonderful welcome and a great host.
Very warm bed, living room, and heart. Better ventilation in the bathroom and kitchen would help.
