Guest Reviews
- Victoria (10/5): Perfect in every way didn’t want to leave. - The property is beautiful. It is clear there has been so much care and attention taken to making Sea Urchin a lovely welcoming place. So many lovely details. Perfect location for everything Whitby has to offer. Just needed a bath mat to make showing less slippery.
- Susan (10/5): Very comfortable, clean and had everything one needed - Self provided Nothing
- megan (8/5): Really lovely house - The location was brilliant and the house was perfect for a weekend get away. Could have done with some milk in the fridge when we got there for a cup of tea.
- Ellie (10/5): Great location and a lovely, well equipped and comfortable house - Lovely house with everything you need for a comfortable stay Nothing
- Warren (10/5): -
- Paula (10/5): Gorgeous property close to amenities in the town centre - Comfortable, beautifully clean house in a perfect location Nothing
- Sharon (8/5): Fabulous! - Full of character, very spacious and spotlessly clean. We really struggles with the tv.
My daughter is very into tech but apart from Netflix it was very very slow but it by no means spoilt our stay.
- Lisa (10/5): Highly recommended - The attention to detail and standard of accommodation is great. Location is perfect, just out enough but only a 10 mins walk
- Jayne (10/5): Well worth a visit to The Sea Urchin! - Such a comfortable property, including the beds. It had everything we needed for our short stay and was immaculately clean.
Location was ideal too. The key box pin quoted on Booking.com is incorrect. Pay attention to the emails from Mark and Karen which contain the correct one.
- peter (10/5): I thought this was one of the best we have stayed in, we could not fault it. Will definitely stay a -

- Gail (10/5): - The property was lovely and had a really homely feel. It had everything we needed there, and the attention to detail was amazing. It was a beautiful place to stay, and we felt very comfortable there. The steps were quite steep, which we expected, but the steps to the upper floor were really steep. That said, I took my time with them and managed to negotiate without incident. It was worth it as the room was lovely.
- Gavin (10/5): Great stay in Whitby with friends. - Close to the town bars and restaurants. The house was beautiful and very comfy for a home away from home. Streets were a bit tight and parking was difficult but that might have been because it was a bank holiday weekend.
- stephen (10/5): We had a fantastic stay everything we needed . Loved staying in this little house . Love Whitby and would love to return - Beautifully decorated to a very high standard it was lovely and clean . Everything you needed for your stay. Lovely little house, could have moved in. We loved staying here and will be returning again. The hosts should be very proud of what they have created a beautiful holiday home for all to enjoy. Nothing it was lovely .
Parking difficult but this is Whitby in general nothing to do with the property.
- Jill (9/5): Everything you need - The house is decorated lovely and very homely. Everything was very clean and you had all you needed and more. Bath robes were a great idea. Only a short walk from the town. We really enjoyed our stay thank you. Could not park outside but found a space on another street.
- Sandra (9/5): Fabulous, we also founds two live sea urchins in a rock pool! Will email you the pics! - Fabulously appointed cottage with excellent facilities and very comfortable beds, lots of attention to detail. Excellent manual on the property and surrounding facilities. Nice fan in the upstairs bedroom Horrendously noisy people in the house next door. Quite tricky to park, so probably should let people know. The stairs to the second floor were fine for me but a warning to visitors would probably be wise.
- Amanda (10/5): Great stay - Lovely facilities and decor very clean, beds and bedding good
- Martin (10/5): Excellent - Parking is a nightmare but not the hosts fault.
- Joselyn (10/5): A perfect place to stay - The property was more than we expected and it was “wow” when we walked in. It is noted a lot of money was spent to bring it up to a high standard, much more than any average
B&B/Airbnb. The plan was well thought out to make it welcoming and comfortable. There was nothing we disliked about the property.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (10/5): Wonderful have already recommended it - Superbly presented comfortable well equipped place Nothing
- Rebecca (10/5): Beautifully decorated house, with everything you would need. - Lovely decorated property in an ideal location. Really quiet around the property and only a short walk down to everything. I enjoyed everything about my stay.
- Michael (10/5): Everything was pretty much perfect even down to the weather - Home from home, spotlessly clean .
- Andrea (9/5): Fantastic weekend away in Whitby … made even better by staying in a lovely little house which was comfortable clean and - Spotlessly Clean, the house was like home from home …. Everything I needed for our stay was on the property, towels , tea, coffee .. even a little shower gel and body lotion.
Location was ideal for us . Parking is a problem….We dropped lucky as we managed to park opposite the property..
We left the car in its parking spot all weekend and just walked everywhere.
- Robert (9/5): Just great - suited us fine -
- Carol (10/5): Amazing Stay in a Stunning Home - Everything , it was beautifully decorated, great attention to detail, well equipped and short walk into main area. Excellent all round Staircase to top bedroom was a bit tricky, we were fine but anyone with poor mobility would find it difficult and a stair rail would be a good addition.
- Lynda (10/5): Exceptional - Spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. Beautiful house with everything that we could need during our stay.
- Ruth (10/5): Had a lovely few days to relax. - The house was very clean and cosy .The beds were very comfortable ,lovely property. Nothing really apart from the uphill walk from town. But we even got used to that.
- Jane (10/5): Absolutely perfect - Everything it was amazing, didn’t want to come home
- Dorothy (10/5): Would visit again and use sea urchin - Location handy for the town centre Parking was incredibly hard
- Jardine (8/5): Very good - Didn't have breakfast
- Metcalfe (10/5): Sea Urchin - The property was absolutley fantastic and the location was great Nothing, everything was brill
- Tracey (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely house, beautifully decorated and equipped. Everything from the luxurious bed linen and towels to the beautiful glasses and crockery in the kitchen has been chosen with an eye for detail. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms spacious . The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and although we didn't cook it was very well stocked if you needed to.
It far exceeded my expectations and the photographs don't do it justice.
The owners should be very proud of what they've achieved.
Situated close to the centre of Whitby , with a bit of a hill on the return journey but we got used to that .
I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Sea Urchin or to recommend to others . Nothing to say .
- Gretl (10/5): Fabulous base for a week of coastal walking -
- Naomi (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property all the amenities for a real home from home Nothing
- Sharon (10/5): Amazing house. - The house was amazing if I'm honest the pictures don't do it justice. The owners have thought of everything. The house was ammaculate and very well decorated. Great location too. Nothing I didn't like.
I would recommend this property to anyone staying in Whitby.
- Stephanie (10/5): A lovely comfortable clean accommodation -
- Sian (10/5): Excellent! Fabulous! Quirky! - Everything!
We have already written in the guest book but just to add further... it is clean it's well equipped and great value for money.
We love the quirky decorations and we would love to come back... you know a place is good when there are no bad reviews and it is booked up for the year! (Shame for us 😉)
We hope that their business endeavours prosper as owners of this property they have done such a fab job of thinking of everything.
We can't wait to try the Harrogate property next time. Nothing
The only thing we would recommend is to have a salt n pepper pot.
However that is just nit picking.
- David (8/5): Super cosy place in the fun town of Whitby - Location was great, quiet street so away from the noisy town centre, but close enough to walk in (Steep hill coming back though!).
Property was clean & well-equipped. Cosy place for our weekend getaway.
Whitby is a very pleasant place to visit, with lots of interest, great pubs & fab eating places. Don't miss out on fish & chips. The cottage is in an area of narrow streets, so parking the car could be tricky. We were lucky & got a spot just near the front door & didn't move it for the rest of the weekend.
It's out of the control of the owners, but you then have to keep your fingers crossed that the seagulls leave your car unblemished during your stay!
Stairs in the property are quite steep, so wouldn't suit anyone with mobility issues or heavy luggage.
- Samantha (9/5): Beautiful, well thought out property in a good locatiom - Gorgeous high quality property, with lots of thought gone into it and the theme representing the town and lots of personal touches. We could see from visiting local shops that there had been a lot of local purchases for decor which was really nice. Had everything we needed. Having a second toilet upstairs was a bonus, as was having a small private courtyard to sit out. Really well equipped kitchen, with dining area. Short walk into the town centre, uphill walk back but this is typical and to be expected of the area. We would definitely rebook. Not a dislike, just to be aware the stairs to the 2nd floor room are very steep, the room is beautiful though.
Again, it's not a dislike, but parking on-street can be hit and miss for availability, not unusual in Whitby. There is 24/7 parking not too far away, which we chose to do after unloading.
- Zoe (10/5): overall our stay was very festive and felt like home from home - the property was had lots of character and it was well dressed with soft furnishings and lovely art work, a very comfortable and cosy feel to the whole house no tvs in the bedroom but this is not to everyone’s preference, stairs to top floor bedroom are very steep, but may not be suited for less able bodied person
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Excellent property, with all the home comfort a real gem Could do with a Bluetooth speaker for some music
- Dianne (10/5): Gem of a place - Absolutely gem of a place, well equipped, extremely tastefully decorated and fantastic location
- Jo (9/5): Superb - Gorgeous house, beautifully furnished & wonderfully clean, central location which was great, everything you could wish for in the house & more, will definitely recommend and return when possible 😀
