Guest Reviews
- Wiggin (7/5): A charming and comfortable cottage in a beautiful location, slightly let down by cleanliness issues, drainage odours, an - My children and I spent a weekend at Apple Street Cottage in the picturesque village of Oxenhope. The property is tastefully decorated, with a cosy living room and a compact kitchen equipped with all the essentials. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, making it a lovely home-from-home while we explored some of Yorkshire’s wonderful attractions.
A couple of points to note: the oven had not been cleaned after the previous guests, and the inside of the freezer door was also dirty. The main issue, however, was a noticeable smell from the drains, particularly in the basement bedroom. It seems the owner may have attempted to address this, but the problem may originate from the external drainage system and could require attention from the water company. A couple of points to note: the oven had not been cleaned after the previous guests ,and the inside of the freezer door was also dirty.
Additionally, it would be preferable if a neutral detergent and fabric softener were used for the bed linen. Strongly fragranced laundry products can make it feel less fresh and more like you are sleeping in someone else’s bed, rather than enjoying a clean, guest-ready environment.
The main issue , however, was the noticeable smell from the drains, particularly in the basement bedroom. It seem the owner may have attempted to address this problem in the past with humidifiers and scented diffusers, but the problem probably originates from the external drainage system and could require attention from the water company if this idea has not been exhausted already.
- Ruth (9/5): - The place was very clean and had everything we could possibly need. The only little issue we had was there is no back garden/yard, which would of been handy for our pooch. However the house is located on a small, quiet street so we were able to take her for little walk.
- YOSHIKO (9/5): - 部屋の設備がパ=フェクト。ベッドの寝心地がよい。広い部屋。
- Natalie (10/5): A lovely place to stay & would highly recommend - Super cute little place. Great facilities, lovely decor, a real home from home Tiny gripe but being 6ft 2”, the mirrors were too low down for me. But that’s a very personal preference.
- Janet (9/5): - Very good value for money
Good location Some areas were dusty eg the light in the front room.
One of the leafs of the table was broken so we couldn't use it.
We didn't think the fire escape from the basement was safe or would be adequate in the event of a fire
- Davina caudle (10/5): Really relaxing , the cottage was beautiful , clean and so homely. , and the log fire ...wow - The cottage was amazing so comfortable and homely i will definitely return back there There was nothing that I didn't like
- Maggie (8/5): Cosy and comfortable cottage - tthe cottage was fitted out nicely. The shower was excellent, woodburner worked well with the materials all provided. The cottage was vwey clean and nicely presented . In a good location for visiting the steam ralilway . The sitting room is comfortable. Of all the times when we parked over the weekend ONLY ONCE were we able to park outisde our property. (((the nice lady next door said often cars parked there are from other streets). It would be helpful to have a soap tray in the shower
- Lucy (7/5): Ideal for visiting Yorkshire countryside - Check in was very easy, parking available outside property. The property was well furnished and met our needs, we were visiting family in the village so the location was ideal. The property was well equipped, but would have appreciated some milk and a dishcloth. Plenty of places to visit in the area, recommend the steam railway. The bedrooms on the upper floor were fine but as previously mentioned the basement bedroom did have a damp smell.
- Ian (10/5): Loved the area. Everyone was so friendly and the real sense of community was palpable - Perfect for a weekend stay.
- Altair333 (8/5): - good communication, clean rooms with great equipment
- Lorraine (10/5): Comfy and pleasant stay -
- Claire (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyable stay in a charming, well decorated period property - Loved the decor and interior. Really imaginative use of space. The property has everything needed for a wonderful stay. Beds are very comfortable! Quiet, despite being near a road. Suitable for a family with older children and teens! Ideally located for exploring West Yorkshire and beyond. Well served with local amenities, pubs, fish and chips, co-op, just a few minutes walk.
Would love to visit in Autumn/Winter as the house has a snug and cosy feel to it! Kitchen was small for a family; however this was a base for two nights.
Bins from the street are positioned near the property on the path.
Awkward leaving the house as a pedestrian with a three-way junction, blind bend and no footpath.
Slight damp smell but was aware of this before booking and this is an older property with a basement room. The owners appear to have done everything possible to negate this.
- Helen (8/5): -
- Michael (2/5): - The terrible odour particularly in the basement bedroom was over-powering, and the property should not have been let with this known problem. Totally unacceptable to have to wake feeling nauseous and with headache from the foul smell.
- Dean (10/5): Lovely weekend stay at Apple cottage - Great location for exploring yorkshires countryside.
The cottage is exactly as described in the listing. If well equipped with everything you need for a home away from home. Also very informative welcome pack.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - Location was brilliant and loved the building
- Roman (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and very clean house.i recommended this property special for family holiday.
- Marie (6/5): Lovely village but would not book the property again. - Nice location, and had all we needed, bedding was clean and the beds were comfortable. Was able to park directly outside the property. There was a really unpleasant smell in the basement bedroom, which was enough to put me off from sleeping in there. The fridge was not clean, and the bins outside the property were overflowing & a bit of an eyesore.
- Caleb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trac (8/5): Good location, lovely comfy cottage - It is a tardis of a place, much bigger than expected, with all services and facilities you would expect and more. Good set of instructions and welcome pack a comfy warming house. It's in a good location with lots of walks locally, pub, chip shop within easy walking distance, nothing is very far away.
The house is old bit has a very modern feel to it and everything is well thought out.
Good hosts There is a warning about the stairs, they are steep and very narrow. The property is just off a main road and you can hear larger vehicles when they pass.
- Richard (8/5): Great quiet location, everything you could need for a short break. Beware of the steep stairs. - Excellent communication with hosts pre stay. Quiet location, parking right outside front door. Property well presented - clean and tidy. Welcome pack very informative. Good heating and hot water. Great shower and bath. Beds very comfortable. Would recommend location for the many local attractions, also very handy for Worth Valley Steam Railway. Minor issues : A Microwave would have been useful. Stairs very steep, especially down to basement bedroom, Could be an issue to less abled person. Unfortunately there was a faint musty smell in the basement bedroom that seemed to permeate into the living room despite having the fan on for ventilation as indicated in the welcome pack.
- Rosanne (5/5): Dissapointing - The property is decorated lovely , with the added bonus of the log burner. The overall smell of damp , that hits you as soon as you open the front door . The cold damp feeling in the basement bedroom. We had booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1, may be better in summer months. Did inform property owners/management company why we had left early , but no response.
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Anthony (8/5): Clean, comfortable, nice amenities and decor, plus the kids loved their room 👍 - Very clean, comfortable and good amenities for what we needed on a short visit. Parking may at times be an small issue if two cars.
- Heather (8/5): Excellent value for money - Lovely house. Well furnished with lovely features. Bus outside for Haworth and Hebden. Pub and Coop down the road. Excellent value for money. Six of us but not enough comfy chairs in the evening.
The adult bunk was fine for us but others may struggle.
The basement is an amazing space but there is a damp smell .
- Simon (9/5): Lovely Property - The house is layed out perfectly. It was great to have an open kitchen, even if rather small, so we could cook and chat as a group.
The basement room is amazing.
We chose the property due to it's proximity to The Bay Horse pub where the locals are so welcoming and with it being between Haworth and Hebden Bridge. For us, having dogs, the property having no outside space was slightly annoying but we knew this beforehand and know properties in the area with gardens are near none existent so not any fault if the property's exceptional standards.
- Mark (9/5): Cosy. Close to Haworth - lovely property in quiet area. plenty of parking. close to bus route to haworth. ideal for the 4 of us for weekend
- Chris (6/5): enjoyed location but not really suitable for elderly guests as access to both bedrooms challenging! - Well equipped, easy parking, modern fittings No microwave, steep stairs (we are all nearly 80!), over bath shower in upstairs bathroom rather dangerous as no bathmat in bath and no grabrail where window was.
- Maria (10/5): Had a lovely stay the house was spotless all decorated to a high standard ad lovely tradition style at the same time lov - Was like home from home everything we needed was there If I have to find something.. no microwave and a slight fusty smell from the basement bedroom
- Nicola (9/5): Superb - Spotlessly clean, modern decor and had everything we needed. The log fire was lovely but sadly we didn't get to use it due to the nice weather. Extras such as board games, having a washing machine and Netflix were a lovely bonus. My daughter loved the high bunk bed! Nothing!
- Creena (6/5): Great location, clean, comfortable and all the facilities you would need - Clean, comfortable and great location Because an old property there was a slight smell of damp
- Mark (10/5): We will definitely visit again! - We LOVED this house! The thoughtful attention to every detail hasn't gone unnoticed. Things like plenty of plug points, the showers were hot and powerful, the washing machine was a bonus, lots of toilet rolls (might sound silly but lots of hosts don't leave these), electric blanket downstairs was a nice surprise, high bed was a fun addition and generally the use of the space in the house. It has been cleverly designed and is laid out very well.
A huge plus was big towels. The ones that can wrap your entire body. No host ever gets this right do a big bonus!
Thank you for making our visit super comfortable! A very minor point but we struggled to park outside the house and had to park on the main road. Other residents parked outside.
The main road is a bit tricky to cross as the street is off on a bend. We drive a truck so it was a bit of a squeeze to get down the street between parked cars but this is more for information and nothing the hosts can do about it.
- Mary (6/5): Not suitable for either children or elderly guests. Need to stipulate in details of accommodation - Good area as very scenic. Staircase very steep to access twin room. Double room in basement though staircase also difficult to navigate and no carpet. Quite dangerous.
Other room upstairs was a study and bed presented as upper bunk bed. Insufficient space as difficulty accessing bed without hitting head on ceiling.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Cyril (10/5): We would go back again. - It was spacious, clean, and had attention to detail, like games and books. It was an ideal, quiet location. On street parking was tricky at times.
- Byford (10/5): Exceptional - The house was perfect, everything we needed was there. Nothing we loved it!
- Kempton (9/5): Superb - Excellent location close to pub and great walks close by
- Angela (8/5): Lovely cottage. Loved the large bedroom in basement - Quirky- large bedroom down in basement, office-type room with ladders leading to double bed, mixture of old and new, lovely scenery all around Parking. Very small street, definitely only enough room for one vehicle. No garden if wanting to sit outside. Would have liked a microwave for quickness of food, as came in late at night.
- Lisa (9/5): A lovely cottage in a lovely little village enjoyed our stay. - Lovely cottage everything you needed, comfy beds and pillows. Ideal for two couples as handy to have separate bathrooms. Good location. Damp smell in downstairs bathroom, bedroom.
- Haig (7/5): Great stay and really reasonably priced comfy house. - The basement bedroom was amazing as was the room with two single beds. The kitchen was nice and the sitting room was very comfortable.
The property has been done up to an amazing standard. Some really lovely features.
The guide for the local area was a really nice touch.
It is really well located for some various local sites. The local pub and chippy is great. The price was really reasonable and the owner was very understanding, professional and prompt. The strange elevated bed was two high even my four year old struggled to sit up in it.
There was also an issue regarding a stale water smell coming from the basement. This was at times quite strong. We did speak to the owner and he was very apologetic about it said he would be getting it fixed.
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Lovely stay and we have already booked again! - The property was beautiful really well maintained and clean and beautifully furnished
- Sharon (10/5): Excellent - Log Burner
Quaint decor
Very Comfy Beds
10/10
- Emma (10/5): Great property. Perfect location for walk into Haworth. Cottage was to a great standard. - Lovely property. Decorated and kept to a high standard. Having 2 bathrooms was really useful. Real log fire was a great feature. Loved our stay.,
- Michelle (9/5): Comfortable and homely. - Home from home. Cold in the main bedroom.
- Catherina_pvh (9/5): A lovely typical Yorkshire terraced cottage - We liked the interior decoration, the size of the rooms and the location of the property. The bedroom and ensuite in the cellar is prone to damp and consequent unpleasant smells.
- Tina (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy, clean and in a great location for various towns/ days out.
- Helen (9/5): Superb - The superb quality of the renovation work on an old cottage. The attention to detail in the bathrooms and woodwork were excellent. Unfortunately a member of our group has mobility problems and they found the stairs difficult to manage. It wasn’t the ideal property for them.
- Katie (10/5): Would stay again - The cottage was clean and lovely. In a great area too Nothing
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
