Guest Reviews
- Alan (9/5): Perfect for short stay to attend a function in the area. - A nice selection was provided for breakfast including a small bottle of fresh milk. A coffee maker was a nice addition. A summer weight duvet made sleeping during the warm nights possible. The bed seemed very slightly smaller than an average double bed - my wife said I was snoring in her ear and couldn't get far away!!
- Eve (9/5): Good comfortable one BR Apr. - Nice comfortable one bedroom apartment. Good bed. 2 burner hob. Fridge. Everything I needed. TV was fiddly to use..
- Chris (9/5): - Quite strong smell of fish (or some sort) when I arrived, was largely gone by time I left though

- Holubova (9/5): Great accommodation with full privacy, I had everything I needed for my overnight stay, felt at home - Really a nice, clean, cosy and well equipped property, not far from the train station, easy to find. Everything went smooth from getting to and into the property. Instructions on how everything works in the property available. Complete privacy. Good value for the money!

- Dan (9/5): Cosy and comfortable. - Well equipped and overall very comfy. Loved having fresh milk in the fridge and amenities. Couldn’t park on driveway. However, parking was safe and close to the property anyway.

- Eyre (8/5): - A lovely little studio with separate Lounge Kitchen, double bedroom and large shower toilet. All modern and in excellent condition. There is parking close in the non main road street outside. Thoughtfully, there was milk in the fridge and self serve breakfast ingredients provided plus tea, coffee, sugar. Towels in the bathroom. I would definitely come back. The shower was just powerful enough.
- Paul (8/5): Very compact usable space ideal for single use or a couple. - Good area very versatile. Clean and warm. On street parking not a problem.
Coffee machine was good with a great selection of coffees. I used the microwave - oven all good. Shower presssure was low.
- Jane (10/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Great for what we required - Had everything and more that you required The bed was a bit small and the pillows a bit hard
- sharron (10/5): Excellent stay - Very nice place, everything we needed, bed comfortable, provided coffee pods, biscuits, cereal, milk, shower gel, really enjoyed our stay there.
- Claire (10/5): Great - Wonderful place to stay. WIFI was a bit weak but the internet in general was poor in the area so it's not a problem with the accommodation Only nice addition would be a coat rack!
- Karen (10/5): Great little place. - Location was great. Everything you could need is provided. Nice and clean.
- suzanne (10/5): Happy stay at the Orchid - A very comfortable self-contained apartment was very clean, and breakfast provisions were added, which was a bonus. stay, quiet location, and a pub across the road. I would recommend 👌 N/A
- Sharon Laney (8/5): - Facilities, quietness, size, privacy, comfy bed, provided goods.
- Clive (7/5): Great place for a stay near Stourhead - Great location and fab facilities. Loved the walk in shower.
Very happy with everything.
It was exceptionally hot outside and it was inside too. The fan was a godsend and we got in early to pull the curtains across and shades down.
The little bottle of fresh milk was much appreciated.
Mere was a fascinating place to explore. Often passed on the A303, but never stopped.
Gillingham centre was an easy walk, we're in our 60s, with super pubs! Parking was a little difficult but we managed ok.
- Freyya (7/5): Short but sweet! - I didn’t feel I got to spend much time at the property as I arrived much later than expected. However, the bed was comfy and it looked nice.
A little disappointed there wasn’t any coffee, although they had a tassimo machine, but I’ve never used one of those before. There wasn’t anything to dislike.
- William (8/5): This is an excellent little 1 bedroom place. -
- Joanna (9/5): Met my needs and requirements with no significant problems. - I liked: The location; The facilities met my needs and worked well for me; The bedroom was quiet; The shower worked well with provisions for keeping it clean; The hosts did not intrude; The availability of modern technology and the instructions provided; the provision of simple food items and the jug of cold water. The tap for the bathroom basin was partially blocked and squirted water everywhere (I cleaned out the tap and this cured the problem). The tap was also loose on the basin and requires tightening. A hook on the back of the bathroom door for dressing gown/hand towel would be useful. The kitchen pedal bin was placed by the bedroom door meaning that using foot pedal caused the lid to scrape the door jamb leaving a black mark on the paintwork. Moving the bin to the space to the right side of the kitchen unit made it easier to use and no marks ( I did clean off the black mark after moving the bin)
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jackie (6/5): Nice little base close to main route through town, easy to find, easy to park. Safe and quiet. - Location was perfect for my visit to friends living out in the country. The host had provided milk/tea/coffee/breakfast pack, which was thoughtful and took pressure off having to hunt for the nearest shop. The annex has been well designed and adequately fitted out, so was good as a base. The bed was comfortable, which is important. Had everything anyone could expect for a short stay. I found it a bit chilly but didn't discover the wall heater until the morning. I'd read a review about underfloor heating in the bathroom, but it didn't appear to be on. The bathroom tap was so forceful that it tended to whoosh over the basin, giving me an unexpected dowsing each time I used it. The shower looked wonderful but I could only persuade it to deliver tepid water - this may have been my fault as there was lovely hot water in the kitchen, but I had no luck with the shower tap. The small shower head was in need of a descale. The toilet seat was not the right size/shape for the toilet, so it was loose and slipping to one side.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic little apartment, well equipped with everything you need. Nothing it was perfect.
- Beth (10/5): Exactly what we needed. Lovely place. Would stay again if in the area for a weekend. - Lovely offering of pastry’s, jams, tea and coffee.
- Christine (7/5): visit - Good little kitchen.
Opening windows.
Food! Breakfast staples+ Access code changed from that I'd been notified about. Unpleasant situation at 7pm!
Wifi difficult to log onto. Eventually successful but required assistance. Luckily owners just next door.
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barrie (10/5): Got the job done well and will definitely be back with my wife to visit the NT estates in the area. - Easy to find easy to enter. Buffet breakfast provided. Snacks and drink choice. The heated floor in the en-suite was a bonus. No comments as nothing to dislike.
- Kieren (10/5): Great stay, and when we left some clothes, really helpful. -
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, warm and cosy property. Breakfast items, milk, tea coffee etc available. Good communication with property owner via Booking com Limited parking on street only as driveway already had a car parked on it. Didn't get to meet the property owner.
- Dàvid (9/5): Great! - Easy to find. Clear instructions for self-admittance. Nicely done out. Good facilities. Locked BIKE STORE!
There's a pub across the road that does food but I didn't use it. -
- Keith (9/5): Nice apartment close to A303. - Nice apartment in West Gillingham, ideal stop over if travelling on A303. plenty of room and comfortable bed. The kitchen has all the features you need and a nice coffee machine. Large TV with Amazon Fire stick to use with your own Prime account if you need.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - It was a comfortable stay. Many shops and restaurants are in close proximity to this B&B. I will definitely stay here again.
- Martin (8/5): A great quiet place to stop over. Shower particularly good - Very quiet and clean. Oven impossible to work and I have a technical background. No start button but there is one maked "Chaos"!!??
- Ma. (3/5): Dirty place and expensive - Quiet, looks quite new, warm. Well equipped. Flat was not thoroughly cleaned: Dirt on the floor, breadcrumbs on the table, lime scale on the taps .... and much more. Maybe we were unlucky and the landlord has forgotten to clean up the place before we came.
- Celia (9/5): I was on a short visit to an elderly relative. It was a perfect base for me. - I brought my own breakfast I missed the milk & orange juice provided on my previous visit!
- Timothy (10/5): Fantastic- great for cyclists. - Great location for cyclists - particularly if doing the Bath to Bournemouth Sustrans Route. There was lockable bike storage, which was great piece of mind. Very clean, and comfortable. The hosts were lovely, and very accommodating, especially given our last minute booking.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - It was basic enough to keep us happy and that's all that matters , it had everything that was needed , a comfy bed , we are both 6ft 2 and didn't have a issue with the length of the bed. The tropical shower looked nice but hardly any water come out of it and it's lime scaled up . How ever the back shower worked
- Samuel (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): A sweet little space perfect for our stay. - A quiet and cozy little place tucked away in a small town close to many tourist destinations. The host was friendly and polite and the living space was perfect for our short stay.
- Julie (9/5): Very comfortable - Very cosy for a short stay to see our family. The pull out bed was very comfortable and was made up as requested upon our arrival and was greatly appreciated.
- Kressa (7/5): Good -
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional - Very homely, cosy and comfortable. Love the little additions of a breakfast basket, milk, coffee, tea and toiletries. Pub over the road was a lovely little bonus. We all slept amazing and was very happy with our stay.
- Jane (7/5): Good - Nice and clean.
- Linda (8/5): A smart and stylish self-contained property with extra welcoming touches. - A very smart and well equipped property with some style. Good instructions for arrival and key collection from the hosts. There were a number of thoughtful touches which made it very welcoming - milk, bread, cereal, biscuits etc. I had a lovely stay despite the hot weather!
- Jon (9/5): A perfect cycling holiday stopover - The Orchid was pretty much perfect for us to stay over on our cycle trip from Bath to Bournemouth. It was neat, clean and tidy, had somewhere secure to leave our bikes, and the owner had thoughtfully left a few provisions in the fridge. The only comment really was that we're quite tall and the bed was a little short for us. Also the WiFi was very slow, but it's possible that was due to the current global IT meltdown
- Aggifield (9/5): Excellent accommodation for short stays. - Decor was excellent. Pictures on walls, surprise breakfast pack, well equipped for a short stay. Nice bed, fantastic shower room. All in all a very good experience. 🙂 Nothing!
- Riya (8/5): Very good -
