Guest Reviews
- Vincent (8/5): Great place in a ideal central location - Lovely location Some instructions on parking would have been help full

- Claire (6/5): -
- Brooks (10/5): - The position of the cottage, being so close to the Abbey where I met my brother, and close to the restaurants where we ate together. If there were twin beds, I might be able to use it with other members of my family. Apart from that, it was fine.
- Michael (10/5): Just the property I wanted - It was refreshing to find this homely property, after spending too much time in depressing grey places. The location was another bonus being so close to everything and loved it that I did not have to hunt round to turn off the Wi-Fi as sure the signal disrupts my sleep as well as being harmful, and not having it was another big reason why I chose the property. I thank the hosts for providing exactly the wonderful property I wanted and hope to return soon!
- Linda (1/5): - The bed was lije sleeping on a pallet and the pillows were awaful. The mats in tge bathroom were dirty. Whole place has not been decorated in years, really run down. The cooker was broken etc. Very sad, as a perfect location. The price We paid was a total price and confirned. However, on arrival at the property, i was informed that I had to pay a further £129.00 taxes! Before thet released the key box code. Which i am disputing. We won't be using Booking.com again.
- Roffe (8/5): - Location, very handy for the city centre.
Privacy, having the run of the place with the bonus of a small garden that wasn't overlooked in any direction.
Perfect for my needs.

- Amanda (9/5): convenient, comfortable and quiet - location and privacy a bit 'of its time' - but still comfartable
- Pauline (1/5): Disgraceful accommodation - Nothing apart from the location Everything else. The towels were damp when we got there so put a heater on to warm them up. The kitchen utensils, kettle, toaster, bath mats, china, glasses, light switches, plugs, ornaments were dirty and/or dusty. We left our suitcases then met a friend in town. When we were out we got a message about not leaving heaters on when we're out. How did she know that's what we did? We couldn't make out if she'd been inside when we weren't there or if it was pure coincidence. There were used bars of soap everywhere, far too many dirty used shampoo bottles around the bath, the table lamps flickered when moving the cable, exposed wires, pat tested labels on electrical appliances with 2019 dates - no recent dates to speak of, junk everywhere as well as in the cupboards, torn net curtains in the sitting room, creaky bed, drawers which broke when touching them, an old musty smell throughout the house, an ancient top loader washing machine, a fridge which barely worked, oven that doesn't work. I think the bedding and towels were clean but she'd put damp towels out when there were dry ones in the airing cupboard. After being out for a meal and returning back to the house we felt so uneasy, uncomfortable and unhappy sleeping in the 'cosy cottage' that we booked a Travelodge there and then, then we left at 10pm. We returned at 11.40am the next day to check we hadn't left anything, bearing in mind departure time is 12 noon, to find the owner was already there and wouldn't let me check upstairs. I complained to her about the state of the place and asked for a refund. She said she'd had no other complaints about the place, but, quite frankly, it's a complete lie. I wish I'd read all the reviews before wasting my hard earned money. I've got no idea how anyone in their right mind would rate it anywhere over 1. It's disgusting and not worth wasting your money on it. We're so upset and think Booking.

- Trevor (10/5): - Comfortable, clean, well-appointed. Ideal location in a quiet street but near to city centre.
- Bridgette (4/5): Suited my need but wouldn’t book again - Excellent location Dated, musty smell, needed a good clean
- Claire (9/5): This property was in a great location and comfy. - It was in a great location, with everything I needed for my stay. The downside was the parking, but there’s nothing the host can do about that.
- Iain (5/5): -
- Jennie (5/5): -
- Stuart (10/5): Location, property, price all exceptional - Very quaint property, fantastic location and excellent value for money Wi-Fi would have been nice but not the end of the world!
- Jennie (6/5): -
- Mitchell (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (3/5): Good location, poor property - Location close to centre and parks Full of clutter and poor state of electrics. Old grimy crockery in hard to reach cupboards. Most appliances inoperable. No information on appliances or local area provided. No firefighting equipment or safety notices.
- Amanda (7/5): Definitely a good property for location, nice location but problem if you need to park! - It was easy to walk in to St Albans, convenient location and good property. Main problem if you have a car, difficult to know where to park.
- Kie (8/5): Excellent location - Price and location Price and location
- Carlos (7/5): Faithful to the photos - Easy to access It is all very old, not a place to rest, quick sleep and go.
- Joanne (1/5): Bad - Area Very old, dated. The kitchen appliances were going rusty . My children wouldn't even stay there we had to book something else for the night
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Jp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aurore (1/5): Dirty house - Walking distance to city centre Very dirty house, in a state of disrepair. The floors are sticky, with dust, crumbs and hair in every corner. The carpets look like they haven’t been cleaned for ages, and it was lucky we had sleepers with us as they felt too disgusting to walk on barefoot. The kitchen has everything to cook with, but everything is sticky and not washed properly, so we had to wash up anything before use. The garden at the back is completely unkept, and the bins haven’t been emptied. The bed is very uncomfortable and feels like it’s going to fall apart as soon as we sit on it. The whole place smells bad, like old dirt, and I kept sneezing from the dust the whole time we were there. The shower curtain fell on my mum when she went for a shower, and when we tried to put it back we realised it was too short and held in place with kitchen paper! There were several half empty bottles in the fridge, which no one had bothered to bin after previous guests had left, and a can of pepsi so old it looked about to explode! The place is very cluttered and there is no care to make is feel welcoming. We definitely felt cheated on the quality compared to what we paid for it, and would absolutely not recommended it. It is truly shameful to rent a place out in such a state!!
- Matt (7/5): Good - Location was excellent
- Michael (5/5): Quaint cottage suitable for people with no car but not for business people - Quaint cottage, centrally located near the cathedral Sadly not suitable for someone away from home on business. There was no internet and parking is a challenge in resident only area.
- Sara (10/5): Perfect choice to stay in St Albans - Super location for St Albans Town Centre. Great communications from host. Excellent value. Wish we'd booked a 2nd night to make the most out of the Sunday Market Nothing. It was ideal
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Lovely little cottage near the cathedral and good pubs The oven is broken. Although there is no central heating and the weather was cold the heaters provided actually meant the rooms could be kept warm though
- Annie (4/5): Disappointing -
- Annie (4/5): Do not go in winter… - The location was perfect. It was so cold, it took a long time to heat up, not comfortable at all. The decor was also very dated and in serious need of an update.
- Mark (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tanya (1/5): Terrible - Nothing sad to say Very old and dated & cluttered. Nowhere to park had to pay a fortune for parking!
- Barbara (1/5): Christmas stay was🤶cold only electric fire oil filled plug in heaters; couldn't open back door - Loctaion good parking permit only until after 12.30 .lack of outside light so as I'm 5ft couldn't really reach it a kind passer by had a torch which was a saver. the price was good for the 3night stay but I left a one night. Lack if central heating one electric fire one oil filled plug in heaters, TV does not even turn on. dangerous step up into kitchen which I tripped on landed on injured my ankle and had to craw across the floor to reach a kitchen to pull myself up on to stand. the kitchen mat I crawled across was bald stairs narrow bedroom bedding was poor quality duvet very thin. Matters lacked support Bathroom had electric wall mounted pull cord to work it not strictly H&S correct anymore suite tired but clean the oven is very old and gas becoming rust on the surround.
- Chris (6/5): Filthy kitchen, comfortable bed - Lovely location in St Albans old town, very close to the cathedral. Bed was very comfortable with a warm duvet. I had a great night’s sleep. Modest price fits what you get for your money. This place is a throwback from my parents’ times (and I’m in my fifties). Definitely has character, and the cupboards of dated crocks and nicknacks are an eye-opener. Compact in size, and has more or less everything a single traveller or couple would need for a short stay. Sadly it’s let down by the dirty kitchen. Sink and cutlery were filthy. Fridge is derelict, with freezer door falling off every time you open it. I had to wash every plate, glass, mug, cutlery item, and utensil before I used it. This is a very old house that has not been updated for a generation. That’s fine if it’s clean. But it might not have been properly cleaned in a generation either. Many people live in old-fashioned interiors like this, and it does have a certain charm, but there’s no excuse for lack of cleaning when you rent a place out to paying guests. (And I’m not fussy). They could ask for more money if it were cleaner and ideally updated a bit. There’s no central heating, so you need to put at least two of the various electric heaters on in winter (when I visited). Lack of doors between some rooms contributes to loss of heat.
- Matt (10/5): Home away from home. - Lots of character, all the amenities. Great location. If you don’t want to stay in a hotel and want home comforts this is ideal.
