Guest Reviews
- rkaranja (9/5): Excellent grounds, great food and Eddy was very kind to us! - The Researchers Rest was a very pleasant surprise. I was so apprehensive when I realised that I had to drive offroad for a couple of kilometres through a heavily populated area called Sakina to get to Researchers Rest. I must say I did not like the road to the guesthouse. However upon arriving at Researchers it was such a pleasant surprise. Lots of beautiful trees, 3 or 4 lovely tortoises and Awesome gardens. The icing on the cake was the food made by Eddy - breakfast and dinner was hands down so amazing. Both my sons and I enjoyed it fully. The road to the place was so rough and dodgy and that was a real downer. I almost wish they could pick researchers rest and move it to another location altogether.
- Tatsiana (10/5): -
- Srishti (9/5): Great, relaxing start to our safari! - Quiet location outside the centre, beautifully decorated, one of the best breakfasts we had in Tanzania. Can be hard to find as the road to the hotel is wobbly
- Mercy (10/5): Cosy, quiet, relaxing - perfect for my work trip. I could hear myself think! - Their home-made granola was awesome! They were super friendly, and it was nice, quiet, and cosy.
- Thomas (10/5): -

Tolles Ambiente. Alles war bestens
- Gerry (10/5): Characterful and restful - Loved the garden.
Loved the colonial feel
Loved the food
Loved the service
- Matthew (10/5): Tranquility and peace in Arusha - The classic modern colonial feel and beautiful garden! Nothing
- Jamie (10/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - Old school, rustic, friendly, and peaceful.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meredith (9/5): Quiet, historical stay with lovely staff and food. - Loved history of the place - great time capsule. Quiet and safe location. Staff lovely and makes beautiful three-course meals. Took us to airport in middle of the night - very accommodating. Rough roads (worst I have seen in Africa) to get to property.
- Rose (9/5): Relaxing and peaceful, you would never know you were inside the city - The Gardens beautifully laid out, lovely lounge area. Good breakfast, had a 3 course meal which was exceptional. Staff very attentive. Close to the airport. Would highly recommend
- Stephanie (10/5): Must stay here when in Arusha - The staff is amazing, the property is secure and quiet, Eddie and Joseph create wonderful home cooked meals and always treat you like family.
- Dmitri (9/5): Superb - A nice small hotel with a history, beautiful garden, welcoming and friendly staff, exceptionally cosy shared space Very difficult to get there- the worst road we ever saw
- Rosie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (10/5): Cozy and restful stay, a hidden gem. - The food is fantastic and the space is the definition of cozy. We arrived quite late and were still attended to like family. We were the only guests which was a treat since this place is usually fully booked so that was special. The wifi was unstable however, the living area was so inviting to play games and read that we didn't feel like we needed it. But if someone wanted to do some more digital work, this would be an issue.
- Sen (10/5): outstanding, the best choice. - everything is fantastic. especially the history and environment.
- Scott (9/5): Wish we could have stayed a bit longer. - The roads to the location were not paved which meant a very bumpy ride, but once there we enjoyed the place. Everyone was helpful (staff). Food was delicious and rooms had a historical ambience.
- Maricel (10/5): Prefect stay in Arusha - We have stayed in Arusha many times and were so grateful to find this little gem. We were looking for somewhere quiet, safe and spacious for my five year old to run around and this was just perfect. The staff were so kind and helpful and we really felt at home. The house has been thoughtfully decorated and a short taxi ride to the centre of town.
There are tasty hot and cold options for breakfast and an option to order lunch or dinner, which we enjoyed as a special treat one evening. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again next time I’m in Arusha and if I could take Researcher’s Rest and the wonderful team with me wherever I travelled to in the world, I would!! They really made our stay homely and welcoming. Loved everything.
- Tarald (9/5): Perfect for us - Home away from home-feeling! Relaxed, small, no luxery but safe and personal. Perfect for us, three generations.
- Joljubicic (10/5): Wonderful stay with excellent food - I was worried on the way there because the neighbourhood didnt look promising, but once we got there I realized why this place has good rates. Food was really good, staff is very professional and kind. House and garden are peaceful. They did our laundry. I couldn't recommend this place more. The road to get there was awful.
- Sandeshd (9/5): Superb -
- Mitch (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing stay. - We loved the homey feel of the common rooms- the living and dining rooms were so comfortable and conducive to conversation. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The meals were uniformly excellent. The road to Researchers is a challenge to navigate when it rains.
- Mitch (10/5): We had a wonderful stay and have already reserved another stay. - Lovely surroundings, exceptional service, excellent breakfast. It was difficult to find.
- Jamie (10/5): Cozy, quiet and welcoming stay with excellent food and comfortable rooms. - Cozy atmosphere, the beautiful garden out the back and comfortable sitting room.
The dinner and breakfast were incredible. Definitely driving there. The roads are really bad and the Google maps takes you in a roundabout way so definitely contact them to get more accurate directions!
- Craig (10/5): Relaxing and enjoyable - The property was very well kept and relaxing. I appreciated the well done garden space and viewing area from the living room. The staff was also very generous and accommodating. This is definitely a great location for couples to relax either before or after their safari. I would definitely stay here again! Very hard to get to due to the poor road conditions. I recommend a high clearance vehicle.
- George (9/5): Cozy and quiet get away with a great host. - Eddie is a great host. Dinner is amazing. The sotting is very cozy. It is a nice, quiet and quaint place to get away.
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -
- Preetika (10/5): 100/ 100 - Tastefully and lovingly decorated. Beautifully maintained. The dinner made by Eddie was exquisite. Breakfast was sumptuous too. Full marks for this place.
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lydia (8/5): Hidden treasure - worth searching for. - Although off the beaten track and difficult to find, it was truly a lovely oasis. The staff were attentive and helpful and I was made to feel at home. The breakfast was fantastic! It took well over an hour for my taxi driver to find the place. maps let us down and no one seemed to know where it was. I was so late that my friend had to cancel our dinner plans.
- Daniel (10/5): The rooms, the food, the garden, and especially Eddie made our stay great. - I chose the Researchers Rest based on previous reviews and their website. They were both very accurate. Eddie, the manager, is a master of hospitality and a GREAT cook. Terrific comfortable stay!
- Edith (9/5): Superb - Coffee excellent
Lunch and dinner too Some more choice for breakfast as some avocado for example
- Lucy (10/5): A place with a heart - The Researchers Rest is a peaceful and homely place. We loved the attention to details, coziness, and comfort.
Our room was spacious, clean, cool and lovely decorated.
Breakfast and dinner were excellent (great coffee, home made granola, salad..).
The garden is enclosed and well maintained with beautiful flowers.
There is a shaded patio where you can read one of the many books or just watch the turtle strolling around in the garden.
All this is made possible by staff that really cares for the home and guests.
We stayed at several places in and nearby Arusha and this is by far our favorite. All was great
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - this place is a hidden gem with great staff and a lovely atmosphere
- Emma (10/5): A beautifully run place that was more like a home than a hotel. I highly recommend it. - This delightful house felt like staying in someone's home. It was extremely comfortable, elegantly decorated and scruplously clean. We were so well-looked after and the food was delicious. The kindness of the people working there was probably the highlight – they went out of their way to provide the highest quality service possible. It was a terrific stay. Nothing. It was a short car ride from the centre of town but that is what we wanted. The consequence was that the location was extremely peaceful and quiet.
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
