Guest Reviews
- Lucille (8/5): -
- Beckett (5/5): - View It smelt. Confusion over which room. No water glasses. No loo paper. No bedside table lights. Good picnic breakfast though.
- Juan Carlos (8/5): -
- Saks (10/5): - Fantastische locatie aan het Nasser meer Niets
- Fudi (6/5): Hot show, clean bed, very quiet, extremely remote. Beware driver asks too much for the transportation. - Nice view quiet area Nice view
- Thao (10/5): I had such a wonderful experience at Habib Camp! The place itself is simple, cozy, and perfectly located, but what truly - Everything None
- Dorottya (1/5): Never book it uninhabitable - Nothing The property is closed (aug 2025) owner still accepts bookings like it is open and gives a downtown apartment in return. The (new) apartment is not suitable for human inhabitants. DO NOT BOOK IT!!!!!
- Erwan (1/5): - Rien.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (3/5): Good location, very expensive add ons. - Our visit started off well when Ash from Habib Camp picked us up from the airport. We were shown to our rooms which although basic were pretty much as expected with ensuite bathrooms and aircon. Beds were a little hard and a bit weird having a duvet with no cover but sheets and pillowcases were clean.
Had a welcome drink and Ash offered us lunch which arrived about an hour or so later, nice but fairly basic meals of chicken or fish with rice and salad.
We discussed our plans during our 1 night visit and Ash dutifully drove us to the temple for the sound and light show in the evening and then at 5am the following morning he drove us back to the temple for sunrise before driving us back to Habib Camp. We stopped off at a local shop en-route with Ash purchasing our supplies for us and us reimbursung him so we wouldn't be charged overinflated tourist prices, which was very kind. The problems came when just before checking out we were given a final bill.
It's the first time on our 2 week trip we'd been unable to confirm prices before an activity or meal, each time being told not to worry it would be a fair price.
In our opinion it was far from a fair price.
We were charged 750egp (approx $15) per person for our lunch, plus an additional 100egp ($2) per soft drink or small bottle of water, water usually selling for about 5egp (10 US cents) a bottle in the shops. For context, In luxor we had been paying 250egp for absolutely stunning meals.
For the taxi service we were charged 750egp ($15) per return trip to Abu Simbel Temple, a journey of about 6km and taking maybe 15 minutes.
As others have said, the camp is in a very remote location and with an imminent flight to catch we were reliant on transport back to the airport (for which we were charged another $10) so felt we had no choice but to pay otherwise we could have been stranded.
Again, for context, in Luxor we paid 650egp ($13) for a driver for the full day taking us to a number of sites in the west bank.
We appreciate that Abu Simbel is more remote with less competition than say Luxor or Aswan but the prices sprung on us were absolutely ridiculous (3 to 4 times more expensive) compared to everywhere else in Egypt and was the only time in our whole trip we felt ripped off.
The property itself is nice and in a great location but the huge amount of litter on the beach is disappointing and put us off swimming in the lake. For a couple of hours work clearing up the place could look absolutely fabulous.
- Josefina (10/5): Perfect Paradise in Abu Simbel - This place is a small paradise in Abu Simbel. With a view of Lake Nasser (where you can also swim), it offers a reprieve from the heat and the hectic life in Egypt. The host, Ash, was simply amazing. Kind, respectful. We got to talk a lot and know more about the Egyptian culture through him. I’m looking forward to coming back to Habib Camp. A bit expensive for the rest of Egypt, but I think that for Abu Simbel it’s to be expected, since it’s so desolate. And anyways, it was worth it.
- Alexandra (9/5): Nice, calm, like at home - It’s calm place near lake fare away from civilisation. It’s was nice to sleep here. We had just 1 night, but it’s no voices, beautiful sunrise, calmness. We came with car and found this place fast. Better to have anti mosquitos window nett to have opportunity open the window for a night, otherwise room is stuffy
- Florence (10/5): Astonishing view on lake Naser. - Scenery at the beach is amazing. The camp is quiet, serene and owner takes great care of us! Meals on site are delicious but a bite expensive (40 US for 3 per meal)
- Mathieu (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place ! Peaceful quite, dreamy place.
Ashraf is very friendly and always wanting to help, excellent place to stay in Abu Simbel Shower could be better
- Arturo (4/5): Disappointing - The camp is in a beautiful location. The camp is not ready to have guests. The breakfast was very poor and the manager had to order breakfast from outside which took over 2 hours to get there. We had to pay for the transportation back and forth even though it says that this is included.
Th price of the camp is very expensive for what it is. The rooms are comfortable, but the beach area is full of trash which is sad for such a beautiful place in nature.
The camp has a lot of potential, but much needs to be fixed before it becomes a good place to stay in.
- Toivo (10/5): Exceptional - Habib Camp is a maximum heart -warming place to stop in Abu Simbel! Location is super. The friendly host offers both transport and catering. We had a great experience! Ps. However, there is no Wi-Fi option, it should be taken into account. Absence of a decent way to move to the city by foot.
- Joris (1/5): Dirty desolated mess - Beachfront Nobody was expecting us. The room was not clean. There were a lot of dead flies and mosquitos and even bird poop on the beds. No bed linen, just plain duvets.
There was hair from previous guests everywhere on the beds and in the bathroom.
The place felt like nobody visited for weeks, with cobwebs everywhere on the outdoor furniture.
We did not expect a sparkling clean hotel room, we understand a camp has flies and can’t be kept 100% clean. But this was easy to catch.
We had to find last minute alternative accommodation and did not receive a response from Mr Habib at all not a refund.
- Ginder (10/5): Amazing and quiet camp - Amazing location on the shore of the lake. Super nice guys, he helped us to find taxis to go to the temples and airport.
Quiet place, beautiful view and very friendly guy ! Thanks a lot Nothing, honestly he did everything he could to help us and make our stay enjoyable
- Lily (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location with amazingly friendly staff
- Nick (9/5): Great place to feel like you are off the beaten track - The remoteness, location by the Nile and Habib's hospitality. The shower pressure.
- Ederval (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Abu Simbel if you like nature and peace! - This was the most quiet, nice and relaxing place we found in this trip - the hidden gem of Egypt. The owner Habib was the most friendly and hospitable person we met in Egypt. It is an AMAZING place (just would like to recommend Habib to put some stones in the way to his camp and paint them in white to be easier to find his place for those coming in their own cars specially at night. It was difficult to find but we found as he went out to meet us. Or maybe to put some wooden signs showing the way). Well, as it is a camp - so, in the nature - you may found some ants, bees, mosquitoes, even little scorpions. We met all these in some camps before so we brought repellent against even spiders, scorpions and centipedes. I want to make clear this is not a complain as a place in the nature can have even bears, lions in other countries. So is just something that I’m mentioning for those not really ready to stay in a camp to always bring repelentes and enjoy the nature. We loved it from the first second we stepped there. We can’t see the time to visit Egypt again and stay in his nice camp for at least one entire week.
- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roberto (7/5): Good -
- May (4/5): Would have preferred to stay elsewhere in hindsight. - Being by the lake. Once the staff were present they tried to be as helpful as possible arranging dinner (at a cost) and breakfast. VERY difficult to find.
NO ONE was there when we arrived, we almost drove off to another place to stay when 20mins after walking around the place trying to find someone, a man who spoke no English appeared.
IT WAS DIRTY: a used bandaid on the sink. Dusty surfaces.
SMALL rooms despite the ample land available.
- Larisa (9/5): Superb - Everything was good
- Vincent (10/5): Not a Camp, a Home Away from Home - If you’ve come all the way to Abu Simbel, think of Habib Camp as an additional must-try in your itinerary. Full-on Nubian-influenced hospitality with a stunning lakeside setting and view of Jebel Shokha. Everything feels natural and not over-wrought, with just the right balance of traditional warmth and modern comfort. The owner, Habib, is the jewel in the crown - a constant presence, yet never intrusive. He knows when to tend to your needs, and when to stay out of your way and is an utterly lovely person to boot. And the food - wow, the food needs to be experienced to be believed. Just tell Habib your preferences, and you’ll have never go hungry! What’s not to like?
- Océane (10/5): Exceptional - The place is for me MAGICAL. It is far away from big hotels and a bit far away from everything (but close to the airport according to maps) BUT IT SO WORTH IT. The fact is that because it's a bit far it allows for calm, privacy, peace and a GORGEOUS landscape. I wish I could have stay one more night to enjoy this place more. I can't emphasize enough how rare it is in Egypt to find such a gem like that. I will definitively come back.
- Nicolae (9/5): Nice accommodation - The host is very kind.
The house is creatively decorated, facing the Nile. The room with 3 beds (the one in the middle) does not have a window, and the bathroom is not closed, in the sense that the dividing walls are not up to the ceiling and the smell and noises penetrate the bedroom.
- Sirakanyan (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (6/5): Beautiful and peaceful in a unique place, with great staff - The staff was very friendly and very helpful. It was a peaceful and quiet area, with a great beach and beautiful views. My husband and I really enjoyed the delicious meals we had (breakfast and dinner). It was difficult to find - our driver had to ask a few locals since Google Maps wasn't helpful. The rooms weren't as clean as we expected, however the staff came in and remedied that very quickly. Also, the fridge in our room wasn't working and so we lost some of our food during the stay. Prices in Abu Simbel are quite high, since options are limited, so we felt like we paid for something that would have been 1/10th the price elsewhere in Egypt.
- Leila (10/5): Amazing staff, peaceful paradise! - We had an amazing time at Habib Camp! It was the most peaceful and relaxing place, only a 15 minute drive from the temple. The staff at Habib Camp were exceptional and extremely hospitable. From the very start they made sure we had everything we needed, and Habib (the owner) was so kind and made us feel like Habib Camp was our home. We want to also give a special shout-out to George and Abdul, who both worked so hard attending to our needs throughout our stay. Our trip to Abu Simbel temple was so special, but it wouldn’t have happened without the support and organisation from its amazing staff! Also a big thank you to the chef who cooked us some amazing, fresh food! If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful and relaxing place to stay, I would highly recommend Habib Camp! The only thing we noticed when we arrived was that the bathroom was a bit untidy when we walked in. Both the sink and the shower floor had quite a bit of sand in it, and it could perhaps do with a shower curtain as the water would spill all over the floor.
However… because we had such an amazing time at Habib Camp, and the staff ensured everything was dealt with, it did not bother us too much!
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arturas (9/5): Superb - Good choice traveling on car. Very nice and quiet place next to the lake. Small, family runned hotel , green, clean well maintained territory. Host is very helpful, ready to fill all your requests. Very good food for brekfast and dinner – local fresh fish is recommended. Room is bright, very clean bed linen and towels. Quiet air heater to the cold winter nights. Abu Simbel is very clean and pleasant town. Bed is big, but very hard. No hangers for clothes. Road map instructions would be useful, because difficult enough to find.
- Mona (4/5): We would not recommend going there. If you go do not use any of their services. - We arrived at the Camp and our first impression was great. They were welcoming us in a very friendly way and invited us to sit at the campfire. The breakfast and dinner they served was delicious and the Camp has an amazing view on Lake Nasser. The bathroom was not clean and the mattresses were rock hard. However, the worst part was that the owner tried to cheat us. We had booked a tour with him which we ended up cancelling. When we cancelled the tour, he lied to us and said that we still need to pay 20€ because he had to get a goverment permit to travel to the desert. He even sent us a fake permit in arabic which was wrongly dated and had the information of a different travel group. If you go to a country like Egypt overpaying as a tourist is to be expected. However, it is unacceptable that the owner of a camp lies to his guests in that way and forges documents. Overall, we do not recommend you to go there.
- Laura (8/5): Fine - It is relatively far from the center and difficult to find it, because a resort was bulilt between the camp and the road. That is why there are quiet and comfortable seating areas. The hosts are nice. The lake shore is beautiful, the cleanliness is like Egyptian. Beer available. Hooray. Water pressure is so low that we could not bathe.
- Rishi (10/5): A family place at the most majestic place in Egypt - Everything here is so likeable.
The serenity, cold wind from lake Nesseir, peaceful environment, good food, positive vibe, and rustiness that you can have at places run passionately by families and owners like Habib.
Loved the campfire by the lake and endless cups of Sudanese coffee prepared by Fufa throughout our stay. The staff really tries hard to make the trip rememberable.
This place is for those who want to enjoy Abu Simbel at their pace and not part of fast paced tour group. In our entire Egypt tour, we found Abu Simbel as the most majestic of all so staying here was really worth it. Nothing.
May be the address on Google Map needs a relook.
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional - We decided to stay in Abu Simbel after reading all the reviews of the Habib Camp. We stayed three days and it felt like a month! Such a beautiful, relaxed time in this beautiful serene safe place by Lake Nasser. It exceeded any expectations we could ever had, even after reading all the beautiful reviews on Booking.com beforehand.
We decided to sleep in the glamping tents as listening to the waves from the lake, hearing the crickets outside while sleeping in the tent was more tempting than sleeping in the room.
We enjoyed every moment! Relaxing through the day, swimming in the lake, enjoying freshly caught fish, going for boat trip and in the night a camp fire (even two!) accompanied by engaging conversations, singing and dancing. What a precious life.
Thank you Habib - a wonderful owner who ensures there is great atmosphere on the camp ground.
Thank you Habib's team - joyful, friendly & especially chef 'Fufa' who embraces you with her Mama cooking and care.
Tip: The place is a gem if you are organizing private retreats for closed groups (cca 20 people),
- Elke (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect Nothing
- Emin (10/5): Exceptional - I love Habib camp. In the night we sat by the fire. And working lady cooked us Nubian traditional coffee. The hotel near the Nile. Amazing location. We love it. Thanks for everything
- Aishwarya (10/5): Exceptional -
