• Zeenat (9/5): Lovely stay at a lovely place - The staff were incredibly friendly, especially Promise, who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. The hot tub was a fantastic bonus, and the animals added a charming touch to the experience. We even found carrots in the fridge to feed the friendly donkeys, which was a lovely detail. Overall, it was a wonderful stay. The shower takes a very long time to heat up, and once it does, it’s difficult to balance the temperature—it tends to swing between being too hot and too cold.

Great facilities, the pool was great, our little house had everything you need. The donkeys were an amazing extra + staff was extremely helpful. Promise was taking such great care of us and we hope great things for him in the future. Nothing. Only good things

• Christian (9/5): Super mit Kindern - Sehr idyllisch, toller Blick auf die Berge. Sehr kinderfreundlich, vor allem die Tiere sind ein Highlight für die Kleinen. Leider hatten wir ein großes Mosquito-Problem in unserem Cottage. Allerdings hat sich Promise für die zweite Nacht extrem ins Zeug gelegt und diverse präventive Mittel und Mosquitonetze besorgt. Promise ist zudem ein besonderes Highlight, super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Der Hottub ist ebenfalls spitze, wurde sogar vom Personal tagsüber aufgeheizt für uns. Mosquitos
• Anna-Lena (10/5): Wundervoll! - Die Unterkunft war sehr schön, das Cottage war sehr sauber und groß. Die Ausstattung war perfekt. Die Anlage ist ebenfalls super schön und die Tiere auf dem Hof sind alle super süß und zahm. Man braucht allerdings ein Auto um die Unterkunft zu erreichen. Die Mitarbeitenden waren überaus freundlich und der Service war perfekt!

К нашему приезду подогрели чан, в котором мы с удовольствием провели время после долгой дороги. Была вся необходимая посуда, в холодильнике была вода и молоко для нас и морковка, чтобы покормить осликов. Есть парковка для машины, мангал для барбекю, чан, веранда, пруд, общий бассейн. Это скорее предупреждение: это ферма, поэтому очень рано (начиная с 4 часов утра) вас могут разбудить крики петухов
• Joern (9/5): Lovely setting and kind hosts - The farm is beautiful, surrounded by plants and animals, and the check-in was easy. The breakfast basket was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
• Marion (9/5): Relaxing countryside retreat - We stayed in the deluxe one bedroomed cottage. It was a lovely huge room with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed, with a big enclosed veranda. No complaints. We especially liked our breakfast basket, which was easily enough for two days. The animals were a bonus too, peacocks, donkeys, cows, and an excitable Pumbar the pig! We had a private hot tub and use of the pool, with fantastic views of the countryside. It's a short drive to Swellendam, where there are plenty of restaurants. A very relaxing place to stay. Promise, the site manager was extremely helpful and communication was great. All good.

Duschtür würde leider bis Abreise nicht repariert. Es gab aber zwei Duschen, daher war es nicht problematisch.

• Michael (9/5): Urlaub im Auenland - Die Lage der Unterkunft ist einfach einzigartig, gefühlt wie im Auenland! Wir hätten hier gerne noch mehr Tage verbracht. Die Unterkunft ist hat einen tollen Charme, bietet sehr bequeme Betten, eine voll ausgestattete Küche und einen privaten Hot Tap vor der Terrasse der zu unserer Ankunft von den Manager Promise bereits eingeheizt wurde. Wir haben uns hier wirklich sehr wohl gefühlt!

Die Unterkunft verbindet den Charme des Alten mit einer Moderne eingebettet in Natur und zwischen Tieren. Wir haben hier vier Nächte verbracht, genossen Pool und Whirlpool und freuten uns täglich die Tiere zu beobachten und zu füttern. Lediglich die Mücken haben uns etwas genervt, aber das gehört ja zur Natur dazu.

Det fann höns där man kunde plocka nyvärpta ägg och en frisk som var mycket kelig. Skulle absolut återvända och ångrar att vi inte hade tillfälle att stanna ytterligare en natt.

• Hendrik (9/5): Bucolic paradise on a farm - Amazing view, very friendly staff (Promise!), lots of lovely animals (Pumbah!) and both a pool and a wood-fired hot tub. Also a chicken-coop with eggs you can use for breakfast and a vegetable garden, providing a bucolic paradise. The breakfast basket is highly generous, and in our experience could easily feed three people If you are heat sensitive, you may find the lack of airco a minus. Same if you are sensitive to animals announcing daybreak rather early 😂 But even then I would still recommend staying at the Hamlet and go with the flow.

Loved that we had access to the farm animals and the well sized veggie patch. We absolutely loved the hot tub outside the cottage entrance and made use of it every day, the well sized pool also came in handy. Also close to the entrance of the Marloth Nature reserve (awesome hiking to the waterfall) and Berry farms close by. Some kitchen utensils are a little dated and although we understand it's a farm citronella candles would have come in handy especially during the summer. We went with our Staffie but the family cottage we stayed at doesn't have an enclosed area.

• Sara (5/5): Dissapointing experience - Unfortunately we did not enjoy our stay very much. Although our children liked the animals and the surroundings we left one night earlier than planned. We did so because the cottage wasn’t well maintained and it was overall dirty. There were stains on the cushions, moist spots on the walls, there are many flies too. The pictures on Booking give a much better impression than the real thing. The overall dirtyness and bad maintaince of the cottage. Also the arrival wasn’t pleasant either: we had to call several times before someone arrived (expensive international calls). Also the baby cot that we asked for for our son was forgotten.

• Guenter (10/5): Schöner Aufenthalt - Schöne, ungewöhnliche und lebendige Unterkunft mitten in der Natur mit zahlreichen Farm-Tieren. Hühner, Pferde, Esel, Pfau, ein paar liebe Hunde, alles ist unterwegs. Mit dem Auto sind es wenige Minuten nach Swellendam. Wir kommen gerne wieder! Vielen Dank an das ganze Team!

• Elia (8/5): - Die Gastgeber waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Die Farm an sich ist klein aber fein und die Esel waren definitiv ein Highlight. Der Hotpot wurde bereits mit Feuer warm gemacht, als wir ankamen. Die Kommunikation mit den Gastgebern funktionierte super über Whatsapp und als ich etwas dort vergessen habe, halfen sie mir unkompliziert weiter, dass es zu meiner nächsten Unterkunft weitergeschickt wurde. Die Dusche braucht leider sehr lange bis sie warm wird und mit ein wenig Ungeziffer in der Hütte sollte man rechnen.

• Jörg Vogelgesang (10/5): - 🌟 Perfekter Landurlaub im "Orchard Cottage" – 10/10 Empfehlung! Wir hatten einen absolut perfekten Aufenthalt im "The Hamlet". Diese Unterkunft ist weit mehr als nur ein Ort zum Übernachten – es ist ein luxuriöses, friedliches Zuhause fernab der Heimat. Wir wohnten im Orchard Cottage, das wunderschön eingerichtet und makellos sauber war. Die Ruhe und die tolle Umgebung sind Balsam für die Seele; man kann hier komplett abschalten. Ein echtes Highlight war der private Hot Tub, in dem wir die Abende unter dem Sternenhimmel genossen. Ein Service, der begeistert Der Service war phänomenal, insbesondere durch Promise. Er war nicht nur phantastisch und sorgte für eine perfekte Rundumbetreuung, sondern ging weit über seine Pflicht hinaus: Er kümmerte sich sogar liebevoll um den Versand eines von uns vergessenen Gegenstands – das ist Gastfreundschaft der Extraklasse! Ein Paradies für Tierliebhaber Die freundlichen Tiere machen "The Hamlet" zu einem einzigartigen Erlebnis. Wir haben es geliebt, die Esel und Hühner zu besuchen, aber unser größter Liebling war das kleine Hausschwein Pumbaa – er ist einfach bezaubernd und sorgt für unvergessliche Momente. Fazit: Es gab absolut keine negativen Punkte. Wir können "The Hamlet" uneingeschränkt empfehlen, besonders für Familien. Durch die nahegelegenen Reitmöglichkeiten bei Hermitage Horses ist die Lage zusätzlich ideal für einen aktiven Urlaub. Wir kommen definitiv wieder!
• Nena (10/5): Fijne plek met een prachtig uitzicht - Prachtige plek! Met heel veel dieren: pauwen, ezels, paarden, kippen en een varkentje. Mooie huisjes, schoon en ruim. Lieve mensen, vooral Promise! Er is niet zo veel te beleven in de buurt
• Saskia (10/5): - Einfach alles. Unser Aufenthalt war durchweg perfekt. Es war wie im Paradies mit all den süßen Tieren. Wir waren ganz verzaubert von dem kleinen Schweinchen Pumba. Das Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig und lecker. Abends wurde es zwar kalt, aber dafür gab es Heizdecken und Wärmflaschen und als Überraschung war bereits das hot tub für uns vorgeheizt. Absolute Empfehlung! Wir wollten gerne länger bleiben, aber leider schon ausgebucht :)

На ферме много животных: мини пиг, павлины, лошадки, ослики. У вас будет свой собственный чан, в который так приятно погрузиться прохладным вечером. Рядом пешеходный маршрут. Нам очень понравилось и обязательно вернемся

• Linde (10/5): Sfeervolle beestenboel - Wij waren zeer enthousiast over dit gezellige en sfeervolle verblijf, omringd door een adembenemend landschap. De ontvangst was heel hartelijk en de dieren waren het puntje op de i. Daarnaast was er nog een groentetuin, fruit en verse eieren. Ons huisje stond vooraan naast de garage die gebruikt wordt door personeel. Het zijn kleine ruimtes, waardoor het knus en gezellig aanvoelt. Het was van alle gemakken voorzien. We hadden zeker nog een nachtje willen blijven!

Everything is perfect: the house, swimming pool, hot tub, donkeys are completely lovely and we found a big bag of carrots for them, which was a nice surprise and experience. There were also peacocks around, which made the place even more special. If you come in winter, make sure to bring some warm pajamas, as the Hamlet is in the mountains and it gets a bit chilly at night.

• Lisette (10/5): Happy at the Hamlet - The Hamlet is situated in a beautiful valley just outside of Swellendam. Although it is only a few minutes away from the town, it doesn’t feel that way with horses, cows, peacocks, and little chickens roaming around the farm. The unit was well-equipped and clearly well cared for. We especially enjoyed the wood-fired hot tub outside; it was a nice touch that the fire was already going when we checked in in the afternoon. These thoughtful details contributed to a lovely stay!

• Celeste (9/5): It is a lovely stay with great views, animals all around and a fresh garden that you can make use of - We bought a breakfast basket from the property. It was amazing and fresh fruit and delicious jams. Everything was amazing. I will change nothing. I loved everything about the property. They supply shampoo, conditioner and bodywash that is a divine smell and product. They make it themselves. Wow its lovely.
• Tamryn (10/5): A magical farm escape - The property is a beautiful cottage in the Hermitage area of Swellendam, surrounded by mountains and farm animals. It felt like a pure escape, it was clean, cozy and had everything you could need to unwind. The wood fired hot tub and outdoor braai was definitely a huge plus. Greatly appreciate the cordoned off area for our fur babies to roam about too. There was nothing we didn’t like

When we arrived, the jacuzzi was already set up and heating, and a braai fire had been lit for us. In the morning, we were greeted by horses and chickens casually roaming past our window! Highly recommend, our stay was fantastic! We can’t wait to come again

We didn't want to leave... - The attention to detail, welcoming atmosphere on the farm, and stunning surroundings made this stay an absolute dream. Our cosy cottage had everything we needed (and didn't think to bring) as well as additional items that made the space all the more beautiful and luxurious. The hot tub surrounded by mountains and the easy access to various areas of the farm made it feel like we were staying at home. A welcome treat which added to the at-home-feel was the breakfast basket delivered to our cottage on Saturday morning by Promise, the farm manager. A truly restorative & calming escape in the luscious Swellendam valley. Thank you, Carolyn, for creating such a calming space and accommodating our request for a later checkout on Sunday :)
• Kezia (9/5): Countryside charm - This is an absolute gem of a place. We loved everything about it. We stayed in the Rose Cottage and it was so pretty. The resident chickens, peacocks, cows and donkeys all added to the countryside ambience. We can highly recommend a one or two night stay here. Promise our host was also very welcoming.

• Levitin (10/5): Perfect, relaxing stay in a sweet, homely setting. - Gorgeous properties on beautiful land with lots of fun surprises - friendly animals, welcoming touches inside the cottage, extremely comfortable, roomy and well equipped. Individual cottages feel private while still having proximity and shared outdoor space with other guests. We also very safe and secure during our stay. The owner was really friendly and we could have stayed for days. The Hamlet is in a beautiful setting but be aware it is remote if you are the rare car-free traveller in South Africa - we found a taxi service at the Swellendam tourist information which worked perfectly, and it's just under an hour to walk to the entrance to Marloth Nature Reserve.
• Warren (9/5): Quiet and Quaint place to stay just outside Swellendam - If you are looking for a nice quiet place just outside Swellenddam, this is perfect. The staff are super-friendly and the place is neat and clean. They went the extra mile for us. The hot tub was a highlight, and being left to our own devices was a plus. It was a relaxing place all round. The breakfast basket was also a surprise with enough food for even the most hungry. the cottage is quaint and full of plants. We enjoyed walks to and from the dams. It would have been great if there was more info on the services like the breakfast basket were in the info book or website. There are some anomalies like the shower hot tap being on the left when all the other are on the right, and the bathroom door handle is turned anticlockwise, while all the others are clockwise, but that is life in Africa.

• Janita (7/5): Beautiful farm stay in a well equipped cottage - Beautiful views and a nice cool pool to relax in. The hosts were friendly and very helpful. The cottage is well equipped with everything you might need, including farm fresh milk and a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar in the kitchen and pool towels for your swim. There are chickens, cows, a donkey and peacocks - so a real farm experience. The cottages are quite close together, so there’s not much privacy. The other guests and staff often moved past our windows and doors to get to parking or do farm work. A larger group might enjoy the proximity as they would all be close together. You can get to the river, but there is no clear path to it. You have to bundu bash through deep grass and fallen trees.

Every convenience, beautiful decor, and a tranquil atmosphere with a country feel while only a short distance from the town. Don't neglect to bathe in soft water that eminates from their own spring or to taste Carolyn's delicious home made rusks with your coffee. Farm animals in the adjacent field and majestic mountains on your doorstep.
