Guest Reviews
- Carol (8/5): Nice stay in a bright, great comfortable bed and room- good value - Room was large, clean, bright and the bed was really comfortable Stairs made it difficult with suitcases however the member of staff helped.
- Jackson (8/5): -
- wendy (10/5): -
- Harpreet (10/5): Staff was very cooperative, I checked in very late but they have send me everything with instructions - It was very clean and tidy Na
- Carlos (8/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Beautiful room - clean and incredibly comfy. Wonderful, friendly staff. The restaurant/bar downstairs was fantastic for dinner.
- Caitlin (9/5): -
- Adam (6/5): - Good location Uncomfortable bed
Cold room
- Arne (9/5): -
- Emma (6/5): - Comfortable bed I had no idea that there would be no staff around on checkout. I ended up walking around the entire building inside and out knocking on restaurant, reception and cleaners doors, trying to find staff to check out. It was only bumping into other guests that let me know there was a key drop off box, a tiny thing on the window in hallway. I didn't receive any instructions from the hotel that this would be the case.
- Stephanie (7/5): -
- Lexie (8/5): -
- Susie (10/5): Best stay in Tasmania. Highly recommended - Everything Nothing
- Wratten (8/5): In short was a pretty good stay. - Good location. Room quite well insulated from outside noise. Bed was quite comfortable & in our experience of our travels around Tassie that is a rarity. Too many stairs
- Hansen (9/5): -
- Charlotte (4/5): Great location and comfy space, needs attention to detail with extras - Lovely decor, comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Not enough tea bags or coffee shachets (no milk) so very dissappointing to not be able to have tea or coffee on arrival or in the morning. Would be worth knowing about stairs as was a lug with big cases. Also has a bedsidr lamp not working.
- Warren (8/5): -
- Cathy (5/5): Not ideal long stay - Bed was very comfortable Our fridge was not working was told it would be replaced the following day. Fridge was not replaced asked for bucket of ice 2 night to keep our drinks cold
- Lee-Ann (10/5): Excellent place - The staff were friendly and food excellent and my room was stunning Absolutely no complaints
- Thuy Hong Van (3/5): -
- Bugg (10/5): -
- Eliza (8/5): Great food, great hostility, great history. - We only stayed a night, and needed something near a pick up point for The 3 Capes bus. Staff were FABULOUS. We heard about the history of the pub including its relationship to a very famous Tasmanian. Pub food was phenomenal. Great value and huge servings. Funky fit out too. Nothing of consequence. Couple of small areas that need to be fixed (pa t work, toilet roll holder falling off)
- Brad (9/5): -
- Nataliia (10/5): -
- David (7/5): My stay was only overnight, it was enjoyable and a good experience - It provides a genuine Tasmanian experience, the staff were friendly and helpful. There is no work facility in the room, even a small desk and chair would be helpful.
- Russell (9/5): -
- Rishal (8/5): great location, really lovely room, communication and turnover service could be better - - bed was super comfy, maybe the best nights sleep
- spacious
- clean - no room services, no turn over services for new towels etc
- no complimentary cocktails in our mini fridge like other review stated
- no communion prior to check in from property regarding hotel opening hours tied to those of restaurant hours. rang 5 times before we had someone answer the phone so we could leave our bags
- Annette (10/5): -
- Thomas (8/5): - Location close to the North Hobart cafes and restaurants was ideal. Still close enough to the waterfront to enjoy a walk. I prefer a firmer mattress, but each to their own. The shower door allowed water to spill out onto the bathroom floor because the bottom trim was incorrectly fitted. A simple fix would avoid the soggy bathmat.
- Jason (9/5): -
- Bronwyn (9/5): -
- Jo (10/5): - Perfect for a few days , close to everything we needed . Comfortable , clean and cosy .
- Hugh (8/5): - Room was excellent, very spacious , quirky decor and really comfy. Further out of town than we had planned for, a good 20 minute walk into centre. Located in a converted pub , which was fine , but just to note.
- Priya (10/5): -
- Pik Yen (9/5): Beautifully furnished rooms - interesting stay - Interior of the room. The bed. Heated bathroom floors. Hotel closed due to it being a public holiday. Did not meet a single person during stay. Keys obtained from a lockbox. Have to try another stay on next trip to feel the actual vibe.
- Wendell (10/5): -
- Sarah-Menai (9/5): Fab Gem, We'll Be Back Again! - Owner was on hand to chat and offer information. He held our luggage for us from the start of the day which we greatly appreciated! It meant we could explore Hobart comfortably before our stay.
Complimentary drinks on arrival made us feel welcome. Nothing like a well-poured Guiness to help settle you in.
The restaurant on site was light, airy spacious, contemporary.and welcoming. The food options were great and our food was really tasty! We plumped for the slow-cooked lamb with feta and pomegranate. The lamb was melt-in-the-mouth. Table service was a fab mix of professional, hospitable and personable....it also has a well stocked bar and more dimly-lit nooks for more cosy post-meal drinks.
There was also a smaller bar area set up for sports fans who like to keep up to date with sporting events with long bar tables.
The room was clean, comfortable, well facilitated and quiet.
The owner made the checking-out procedure clear and easy. A card drop into a specified card safe by the exit was thoughtful of guests managing their luggage as they leave.
We will be back when in Hobart again. Hoiking our massive suitcases up the staircases was interesting, but I doubt most travellers would have had as much as we did!
- Cat (7/5): Great location. - N/A Extractor fan in bathroom was extremely dirty and hadn’t been cleaned for months. One of the mirror lights want working. Fridge didn’t work. Entry door kept banging as it wasn’t sitting flush in the frame. Lack of parking.
- Josephine (7/5): Meh - Restaurant was good Getting to the rooms, no help with luggage. Andsurly reception.
- Stephen (7/5): - Nice but small. Staff were nice and friendly No chair nor table. TV in an average spot and difficult to connect to with no local channels
- Allyson (9/5): - Modern and quality fixtures and fittings. Well decorated Blinds do not block out the light and the air conditioner appeared to be at a fixed setting so you could not change leaving the room too hot to sleep.
- Anthony (8/5): Very comfortable. Great beds, linen and general comfort. - Very convenient location for my purposes - just 20 minute walk to Salamanca. The rooms are very high quality and comfortable. Very quiet. I had trouble controlling room temp - I realised heated floor were set at a high temp and I could not work out whether the aircon was heat and cool or heat only. I also did not ask the staff......It would be nice to have windows that open at least a little for air flow.
- Rachel (9/5): Excellent - This is where I will stay from now on when travelling to Hobart. Absolutely beautiful rooms, comfiest bed ever ☁️, immaculately clean and great staff! The only reason I didn’t give four stars for facilities was because I prefer to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Other than that everything was 10/10
- Jo (4/5): A night at the Waggon - comfy bed and location Fridge did not work, some lights did not work
The welcome was very nice and the guy very friendly. Was not expecting an on the house beverage but was a nice perk.
It was not explained there was a private function that night. We were told they had a function but not that the bar would be unavailable. we arrived back wanting a nightcap but we were quickly set upon and sent you bed.
Probably would not stay again
- Steven (9/5): - great location...
- Jacob (9/5): Comfortable, hidden gem! - One of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on. Meals at the restaurant were fantastic and served rather quickly. 2 lights weren’t working and a bit of dust on surfaces
- Steven (7/5): - Needs better signage for Entry. Looks abandoned from the outside
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): - No breakfast due to dining being closed. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. Location was close to city centre.
- Sean O'neil (3/5): - Well styled room In room extras were none existent. Not even basic tea and coffee facilities provided
- Whittleston (8/5): Very good stay. Enjoyed it, and very handy close to the city - Great location and great price Stayed for 5 nights. Only cleaned once
- Priya (5/5): For 260 per night, it was very sub par. - The hotel seemed newly renovated For the price of 260 per night the service and cleanliness let it down. We had no control over basic things - couldn’t not even set the temperature of the air con, the ad said complimentary cocktails upon arrival but we weren’t given any until we asked, there is no proper lobby ( you have to check in at the bar downstairs) and there are a lot of stairs. Definitely not worth the price paid.
- Damian (8/5): -
- Amanda (8/5): A good reasonably priced - Good location walking distance to good restaurants A bit noisy when revellers leaving venue and are standing outside waiting for transport.
- Leilani (9/5): Wished I stay for 2 nights not 1!! - Great little find in North Hobart. Spacious, clean, great location to restaurants and bars in North Hobart. Unique location too with great decor and all very comfortable. Make time to have a drink at the bar downstairs - how fun!!
- Rodney (7/5): It worked out OK for my wife & myself to change our surroundings to help keep the spark in our life - The bed was comfortable, the shower was large enough for two. A lack of tables to place items i.e. a coffee table or sideboard. No coffee making in room no microwave, Pillows way too high. Street parking was a concern.
- Youraphanh (10/5): Walking distance to the city, best stays - Simply excellent NA
- Rodney (8/5): This romantic get away did the trick, the bed with great restaurants & were going back - The bed No lock on bathroom door, no hanging space, Room rather hot during the day with windows facing north. No water bottles in the room,
- CUIFANG (1/5): Terrible - I honestly can’t believe how terrible this place is. I should have read the reviews before booking, because this was one of the worst stays I’ve ever had. The rooms are cramped spaces awkwardly slapped together above a pub — it feels like someone converted random storage rooms and called them “accommodation.”
You have to drag heavy luggage up endless stairs and fight your way through multiple fire doors like you’re completing some kind of obstacle course. Absolutely ridiculous.
The room itself is a joke: no chair to sit on, no kettle, nothing. And apparently you’re supposed to share a kettle with strangers in the hallway like it’s a hostel from the 90s.
But the most infuriating part? The air-conditioning. The settings are FULLY locked. You can’t change the mode, can’t adjust the temperature, can’t even turn it off. If you want anything changed, you have to wait for the pub staff downstairs to start work, then get someone from the kitchen to “fix” it for you. Who even thought this was acceptable? It’s honestly unbelievable how poorly managed this place is.
Avoid this place unless you enjoy torture. I honestly can’t believe how terrible this place is. I should have read the reviews before booking, because this was one of the worst stays I’ve ever had. - Rachael (8/5): Really enjoyable stay, lovely accommodation in walking distance to what you need. - Great location, well appointed rooms and beautiful bathroom Bit of street noise & the doors need an additional seal as every time someone walked down the hall it rattled the door and it feels like they’re going to come straight into your room.
- Jayatee (10/5): Staff and property are both top tier! Highly recommend a stay at Waggon - The property is beautiful and felt so comfortable and cosy.
- Joe (10/5): -
- Belinda (8/5): -
- Marita (8/5): - Bathroom floor heating
Clean and nice linen
Comfy bed No chair
No coffee facilities
Only one set of cutlery
- Clare (1/5): - Nothing I booked my room for the wrong night, in error. When I turned up to check in, the staff were unsympathetic and unhelpful. They didn't offer a credit, despite being paid for the night, and I received no response from booking.com customer service. Very unhappy :(
- Will (9/5): highly recommend for a good stay - he owner is super friendly and the pub is great. It was just a bit warm
- Amanda (10/5): - Clean. Close to where family lives.
- John P (8/5): - The place was comfortable, and efficient. Ac is in inaccessible, i prefer the unit to be 18 degrees not 20. No way to lower it.
- Kate (10/5): -
- edward (10/5): -
- Ruby (9/5): Superb -
- Kylie (8/5): Very good -
- Belinda (10/5): Perfect start to our Tasmania adventure - Beautiful comfy room, exceptionally clean. Vibe of the restaurant/bar attached was awesome. Food was phenomenal No tea or coffee facility in the room
- Janet (7/5): Excellent room, lovely hosts. - Beautiful decor. The restaurant meals are wonderful. Very friendly hosts. A little further away from the CBD than expected. Not all the lights in the room were working. Advised this to owners but they didn’t fix the lights.
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional - Bed felt like I was sleeping on a cloud!
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - The room was simply stunning and beautifully clean.
My only disappointment was there was no tea/coffee facilities.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional - The easy access to the main city areas and wharf.
- Anna (10/5): Perfect - Staff went above and beyond. Free cocktail in the fridge was a nice surprise! Great, big bathroom, generally a nice space. Very comfy bed too. Nothing.
- Nastaran (9/5): Superb -
- Acharya (9/5): Superb -
- Dianne (9/5): Wonderful - Nicely decorated, very comfotable , very impressive Could have done with a chair in the room
- World (10/5): Loved staying at his newly renovated heritage hotel and restaurant and bar. Quirky and upmarket. - We loved the old style charm cross with modern conveniences One of the female staff did not smile or make us feel good, when we arrived we felt like we were in the wrong place at first.
- Helen (9/5): Lovely funky accommodation….A great 2 night stay. - Beautifully renovated establishment.
A small room but loved it ! Enjoyed the comfiest king bed & beautiful linen.
The restaurant also serves delicious food so we didn’t even bother looking for anywhere else to eat! A little traffic noise.
- Sarah (10/5): - It was a really nice accommodation! The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The restaurant is also very nice and you can reach everything by foot. Would definetly stay here again.
- Lisa (6/5): Pleasant - VERY noisy our room was above the bar, kept awake till very late with patrons downstairs
- Michelle (10/5): - Such a cute find in Hobart. We loved everything about it.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Very cool accommodation and super comfy. Hope to stay again soon.
- Lisa (7/5): Good - Very noisy, our room was above the bar & it was hard to sleep
- Mal (10/5): - Great boutique hotel. Comfortable bed, large ensuite.
Street parking only.
- Samantha (7/5): Good -
- Daniel (10/5): - Second stay here, it's just a fantastic place. Great food, great service, lovely rooms and wonderful people! Will be back.
- Alyssa (6/5): - The room was reasonably nice although the bathroom was unnecessarily dark. The shower being in an accessible room flooded the bathroom floor everytime it was used.
Bed is fairly comfortable. Air con a plus but no control over the settings. Parking was a abysmal, first finding the driveway from a busy difficult to turn around on street, then finding the actual correct garage door (apparently you’re meant to understand that one of the three doorways with a cryptic deconstructed “C” leading to what looks like the door to a warehouse is indicative of a parking garage. Then figuring out how to get the keypad to work, then navigating with a small car getting through the very narrow garage door after a tight turn and finally the 13 point turn into the very tight parking spot. The whole ordeal took 45 mins. Hallway is far from welcoming. Not sure the vibe they’re after, if it’s ~anxiety~ they’ve nailed it. Between the disconcerting audio on repeat that can only be describe as taxi jam in Mumbai in rush hour and the creepy drawing in the dingy poorly lit hallway. Somehow this is all just “art”. Location is good but the car was so hard to get in I was too scared to drive anywhere to have to deal with it all over again so didn’t bother going anywhere that wasn’t walkable. To be honest as much as the room was nice, I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
- Leanne (8/5): - We had an appointment at the Calvary Hospital close by and chose this booking due to the location and reviews.
Had a lovely meal and a few cocktails 🍹 in the restaurant below. Only negative was that Is was vey warm and stuffy in the room and you couldn’t open a window, and we couldn’t get the heating onto cooling.. a but disappointing that the parking wasn’t in a secure area..but overall a great place to stay.. very clean and comfy bed..
- Kloe (5/5): Did the trick and has good potential. - The comfort of the bed + linen and the artwork on the wall, also the lovely new bathroom and hospitality. The hosts kindly held our bags as we explored after checkout and recommended a fantastic late night feed at Bar Izakaya. The bar in-house seemed quite funky and inviting. The doona had no cover, the complementary cocktails tasted like medicine and were served in used, dirty medicine bottles - couldn’t get through them. A bit random and off-putting. The aircon was stuck on a temperature too warm (and we’re Queenslanders), the decor was affixed with blu tac and the bins were a mesh not useful for crummy foods, liquids, etc., and one of the bed lights did not work.
- Sherrie (8/5): - Was a lovely room, very clean, only it didn’t have any tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We travelled back and forwards to the hospital all hours and would have been nice to be able to make a cup of tea.
- Steaven (4/5): - Could not control the room temperature and it was suffocating. Called the reception and they said they could not help since it was in heating mode.
Had booked the place because they mentioned they had parking but on reaching, they mentioned that we had to park on the street.
- Anne (10/5): - The Waggon is great place to stay on the edge of the Hobart CBD. The owners have taken an old pub and beautifully transformed it into a dining/bar/accommodation hub. The decor, furnishings room size and amazing bathroom are all superior to branded hotels the city centre - at half the price on the night of our stay.
- Nakita (9/5): Superb - Cocktail on arrival, friendly staff and great restaurant on first floor. Heated bathroom tiles
- Paige (8/5): Very good -
- Renee (9/5): Superb - Beautiful rooms with luxurious bathroom with heated flooring. Very soft and comfortable bed. Perfect location with great coffee shops just a walk away
