• Alanna (1/5): Lovely Villa Stay Ruined by Staff Stealing Money - I am giving this villa one star due to a theft situation we experienced during our stay by the staff. Though the property was beautiful, the host had great communication, the location was convenient, and staff were generally pleasant, we unfortunately experienced a serious breach of trust when all of the U.S. dollars belonging to two guests were stolen directly from the safes in their rooms. Not a single bill remained, making it clear this was not a mistake or oversight, but deliberate theft by a staff member. On the first day, staff assisted the guests in Room 3 and Room 4 (located in the back of the villa) with setting up their safes. Room 3 placed her passport, Indonesian money, and about $150 USD inside. Room 4 placed her passport, credit cards, and about $110 USD inside an extra purse, then locked it in the safe. Neither guest reopened their safes during the stay, other than Room 3 once to take out only Indonesian currency. On checkout day, both discovered every dollar of their U.S. cash was gone, while passports, Indonesian money, and credit cards remained untouched. By contrast, Rooms 1 and 2 (at the front of the villa) also had passports, U.S. dollars, and Indonesian money stored in their safes, but none of their belongings were touched. This strongly suggests the theft specifically targeted the rooms in the back where, I am hypothesizing, the person knew they would not be monitored. Management shared that they investigated, but the person responsible could not be identified. However, since the personal codes worked the entire time and staff were the only ones with the master key to override the safes, it is clear that a staff member was responsible. The house manager appeared genuinely concerned but explained that without proof, no further steps could be taken and no compensation could be offered. As someone who has stayed in well over 50 villas across many countries, I understand how important reviews can be.
