Guest Reviews
- Debojeet (10/5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Riverside Paradise – Exceptional Hospitality!! - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Riverside Paradise – Exceptional Hospitality!
Our stay here was nothing short of magical, largely thanks to the incredible host, Faiz, and his wonderful family. From the moment we arrived, Faiz went entirely above and beyond expectations to ensure we had the perfect vacation. He was an absolute lifesaver with logistics—arranging our cabs, guiding us to the most prominent local sightseeing spots, and even personally sourcing authentic Kerala spices for us to take home.
🍽️ A Culinary Masterclass (Better than Michelin Stars!)
The food alone is worth traveling for. Faiz’s mother is an absolute culinary genius—honestly, her cooking is way better than a seven-star Michelin chef! Every meal was a celebration of local delights. We were treated to:
Perfectly prepared mussels
Rich, authentic Malabar Biryani
Fluffy Puttu and flaky Malabar Parotta
A divine local mango chutney
Endless cups of refreshing black tea, served by Auntie at any time we asked, always with the warmest smile.
Kid-Friendly Note: Traveling with little ones can be stressful, but the food here is incredibly kid-friendly. My 3-year-old son was absolutely thrilled with both the place and the meals!
🗺️ Serene Views & Unbeatable Activities
The property itself is nestled in paradise. The riverside view is incredibly serene, looking out at a lush green island just a stone’s throw away. The experiences curated by Faiz really set this place apart:
Private Boat Ride & Mangroves: Faiz personally took my family out for an unforgettable boat ride to experience the local mangroves.
Floating Restaurant: Dining on the river at the floating restaurant was a superlative experience we will never forget.
If you are looking for authentic Kerala hospitality, breathtaking views, and food that will spoil you for life, look no further. We left with full stomachs, happy hearts, and beautiful memories. Highly, highly recommended! Nothing
- John (10/5): - A true homestay, extremely well looked after by the family, with fantastic food. The boat trip in the lagoon and through the mangroves was great. It was our first accommodation in Kerala, and a great introduction.
Was also lovely walking round Kadalundi - felt like a celebrity as adults and kids were so friendly and come to speak with us, and asked for selfies! Was only 10 or 15 minutes walk to Kadalundi and the train station, but also easy to get tuk tuks or taxis organised by the helpful hosts.
- Ian (10/5): Welcoming homestay in beautiful river setting - Beautiful setting on the river, very friendly and helpful family, tasty home cooked meals, amazing boat ride through the mangroves.
Médaille d’or Saheer et M.Ali.
- Janice (10/5): Amazing place to stay on the backwaters and best of all the home cooked food was delicious - Absolutely tranquil location on the backwaters watching the mussel fisherman and best of all eating the delicious curry hat was made for us 😃 Nothing
- Allan (9/5): We loved our visit with Saheer and his family and hope to return. This was one of our most pleasant stays ever. - It was a very peaceful, safe and quiet family property on the riverbank overlooking the water and bird sanctuary. The house was surrounded by plants and flowers and there were hammocks and shaded tables and chairs for relaxing in the cool breezes morning and early evening. Our room, one of two, was comfortable and had good a/c. We were looked after like family. Saheer arranged transport to and from the train when we went to visit Kozhikode and took us on a guided walk to the beach. Nothing
- Alicia (10/5): Wonderful homestay experience! - A wonderful homestay experience with a lovely helpful family. We loved the outdoors area in front of the lake with hammocks and lots of nice places to sit and enjoy the view. The host came and picked us up at the airport and helped organise a taxi for our onward journey after. He also gave lots of recommendations of what to do in the area and organised a boat trip for us to see the mangroves. Breakfast was delicious and we also had dinner there twice during our stay. The house was very clean and modern. There is a train line nearby which was a bit noisy at night with trains passing regularly.
- Lynne (9/5): A night or two at Green Island Homestay is a must if you are looking for tranquility, great views, home cooking and a wa - From the moment we arrived at Kadalandi we knew we were in good hands. Our host, Saheer, was waiting on the station platform to guide us down a narrow track to the family home, some five minutes away, where we were met by an entourage of all three generations, all of whom, including the children, went out of their way to make us feel at home.
The property is just as depicted on Booking.Com; a family home where guests are accommodated in the two front rooms, complete with a shared balcony which affords a magnificent view over a lake lapping up to the garden. If that were not enough, the latter is beautifully tended with an abundance of plants where you will find two hammocks in which to while away the afternoon. Two well spaced outside dinning areas complete the picture, where we were able to enjoy our evening meal under soft lighting.
Inside the bedroom was compact, but still big enough to house a king sized bed with space to hang clothes. Special mention for the bed linen which we found to be spotlessly clean and freshly pressed.
When it came to the food, “mama” did the cooking under the watchful eye of the “head of house”, with each dish prepared with care using local produce, including fresh fish purchased by Saheer from the day’s catch. Of note, our host has clearly taken note of previous comments re unexpected additions to the final bill, and was at pains throughout to explain the likely cost when discussing options prior to each meal, standfast the breakfast which was complimentary. It really is difficult to find something not to like.

- Barry (7/5): Great position but care on extras - Fabulous position on the river overlooking the bird reserve. Walking distance to the station. Good home cooking. Boating at nearby bird reserve excellent.
A local Theyyam was a fantastic experience. Could do with a top sheet on bed, a larger or second towel, hot water in bathroom.
Big issue that left me dissatisfied was the final bill for evening meals and tea/lime juice. Although I had asked about meal costs and been told R300 or so for fried fish, I was unprepared for R600 for one small fish and then being charged an additional R350 for the fish gravy and chapati. A basic meal at R950 is top restaurant prices.
Also being offered tea and lime juices throughout my stay seemed very hospitable but it was then charged at R25 and R50 each time without any notice. The nearby bird reserve only charges R10 for either and they tell you in advance.
The free walking safaris did not materialise.
Breakfasts good but could do with some fruit.
A wonderful position on the riverbank but the already high charge tips over to unacceptable once extras are added.
I hope they take notice and just advise guests in advance.
- ERIK JOMY (10/5): - Family Like Atmosphere and Clean Place
- Justme (10/5): We can't wait to return one day. - We found paradise at Green Island Riverside Homestay. The place is incredibly beautiful. Located directly by the river Kadalundi, we spent three very relaxing days in the peaceful ambience of the very well maintained garden with the view over the river with its bird sanctuary and the mangrove forest.
Our hosts Saheer and hues family were very welcoming and caring, they supported us from the very beginning and also provided flavourful food for breakfast and dinner.
The boat trip to the birds sanctuary and mangrove forest was also a beautiful experience where we could dive into the nature's wholesome beauty that you usually only get to see in TV documentaries.
Located approximately 45 min from Calicut center, this is a perfect place to experience both: the peaceful calm natural surroundings as well as the busy vibes of city.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to our hosts. Nandi!
- Vijayakumar (7/5): Good -
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were very welcoming and warm people. Very neat and fantastic view
- Venugopal (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Beautiful location and immaculate house - We very much enjoyed our stay . The location is beautiful and the house is immaculate. The family is very friendly and the boat ride was very enjoyable.
- George (10/5): We stayed here after a long flight and our first trip to India. This little family run establishment was amazing! They l - Beautiful location with a great connection to nature. It was also very clean and tidy with modern appliances
- Robert (8/5): Secluded riverside spot. - The garden, the home-made food (especially the black pepper mud crab curry and local fish), the wildlife (eagles, otters, kingfishers). The family were kind and generous. The host Faizz was great, but communication was not clear about the 'walking safari' which is mentioned on booking.com but was just a walk to the beach (?) and the host was also not clear about whether he had booked a boat or not.
- Mahadevan (10/5): Exceptional - Enjoyed the Boating, and the view from our resort especially night was very beautiful.. and the homely food provided was real Malabar taste.
- Michiel (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are kind people. Very helpfull and they took me to a guesthouse nearby, to have dinner with another familiy whom i met when i arrived at the wrong guesthouse!
The hangmat is perfect to relax in the morning 👌
- Asra (10/5): Blissful and a positive, realistic natures stay. - Food was served with care and they maintain the property very well suitable for families All the time they were available to help the guests in time was constantly following up and guiding the routes whenever we were wandering out for sight seeing. Very peaceful and blissful stay for a family on the serene river side with natures' love. Nothing much to complain about it, although the property is located deep at the outer area, they are helping the guests to accomodate the vehicles and arranging whatever we were looking for.
- Sofya (10/5): Perfect stay to get to know Kerala state, chill, watch birds, explore local entertainments - This is an amazing house stay with exceptional hosts. Sahir helped us resolve every issue we had from ordering taxi to cash withdraw. He accompanied us to the beach and around town, suggested great places to visit, provided a boat excursion and arranged laundry stuff.
The place is perfect. Clean room with a nice bathroom (already had toilet paper!), the territory has swings, 2 hammocks and tables to dine outside. I highly recommend the place and the hosts. Also home-made food is great at this place. We had breakfast and diner there all days of our stay. I personally was lacking a socket that would be next to the bed to charge my phone while on it. But Sahir told me at checkout that he could have provided a wire extension. So do ask for one if you need it!
- Vineeth (9/5): Pleasant weekend getaway - Property is located on the banks of backwater and offers mesmerizing views and tranquility. The owner takes great care in accomodating the needs of guests. Ms Ayesha Biwi is a wonderful person and a even better cook..offers you mouth watering south indian delicacies for breakfast and other meals on request. If you like angling, then this place is a heaven for you. Faiz has a unique way of catching fishes, crabs etc and if you are lucky, his fresh catch might find place on your menu too. Bird sanctuary and large number of otters in the lake are a photographers delight. Must go on mangrove boat ride in the morning. Overall a good experience. The only Cons I would mention is the entry & exit to the property. The last 500 mtrs is through a very narrow lane and one might find it troublesome to constantly move in and out of the property. But what's lacking in the connectivity, the family tries to make it up with hospitality.
- Vikram (10/5): Exceptional -
