Guest Reviews
- Carlota (7/5): Ok! - It’s a simple room and the food (dinner) is tasty, close to the river. It’s ok for one night. Very bad shower and the AC doesn’t work well. Wi-Fi also didn’t work. Breakfast could be improved.
- Eusebio (8/5): Very clean place and great staff - The place is very tidy and everything is spotless. Food on site is really good and generous in its portions (to say the least). The staff is always ready to satisfy any request (they even went out and bought me a beer at no extra cost since in Ramadam they don't sell alcohol). Nice garden too! Unfortunately the last night there was a power outage which lasted the whole night. As a result no AC and a very hot and sweaty night (luckily I had a head lamp with me). For the price I paid I would expect some back up.
- Ivar (10/5): Outstanding, truly the best place that represents the REAL Gambia - The happy corner Lodge probably was the best accommodation I had during my solo travel in Gambia. The food was outstanding, especially the chicken :) But the best part was the hospitality and the tour guide of Mbaye. He truly is the most chilled out Gambian guy ever and the tour he fixed to the stone circles and the river was outstanding. We saw hippos, chimps and crocodiles all in 1 day. I truly think that this side of Gambia, so the area surrounding Janjanbureh, is the real Gambia which everyone should see once in their lifetime. Not really at fault of the accommodation, but be aware that there are no ATM's on Janjanbureh!
- Suzanne (7/5): Don't get mixed up with "tour guide" associated with this hotel - The breakfast was good and the staff worked with us to produce a meal to avoid dietary restrictions. Watch out for the brother of the owner who is an unsavory character. He will try to be with you at all times as a middle man wherever you go. He will not leave you alone and demands money. We had to threaten to call the police to finally get rid of him.
- Ellen (10/5): Very nice accommedation. - Execellent location in a main street near the river and a very friendly staff. The appartment was clean and spacious and contained a big double and comfortable bed. The staff will filll all your wishes and they also can arrange a river trip for a real African feal. I will stay here again!!!! nothing
- Thomas (10/5): Friendly little lodge with a great garden and wunderful staff - What a nice and peaceful little lodge...including one of the nicest gardens I´ve seen in The Gambia. Very friendly owner and staff, free WIFI, clean and functional rooms including AC and a small veranda in the garden. Very quite a bid away from the Gambia River. Breakfast included and other meals provided at very resonable costs. Highly recommended.
Georgetown (or Janjanbureh) is a very friendly small town (more a village) where local life can be enjoyed. none
- Caramorgellyn (9/5): Superb - Excellent stay in Janjangbureh! Wonderful and accommodating hotel staff who did their best to make our stay as enjoyable as possible including a complimentary walking tour of the town as well as a menu created based on our preferred foods. When our driver fell through to take us back downriver, the owner stepped in.
- Sarah (8/5): Really great experience - everything. Food was amazing. Best domoda There were some mosqiotes in the bedroom but the owner sprayed the room and there were bed nets.
- De (10/5): Wonderful place and really kind staff -
- Susanne (7/5): Actually a nice place but some buts - The location is very central, everything is within walking distance from the ferry pier to the bus stop. Shops and restaurants can also be found in the immediate vicinity. The room was well equipped and clean, the breakfast was very good and generous, and they even prepared one for us to take away at 6 a.m. on the day of our departure What really bothered us is that there is a constant attempt to sell guided walks, private music performances, etc. (by employees and acquaintances of the owner). There is also too much emphasis on all meals being eaten on site (also available in the immediate vicinity for half the price and are at least as well prepared) and tours on site be booked. Unfortunately, we didn't ask at the jetty in advance and booked a boat tour, which was priced like a full-day tour including meals, but unfortunately ended after 2.5 hours. And in this time there wasn`t explained a single thing, the boat was steered by a kid half of the time while the "guide" and the boatman were smoking and sleeping. Sure some misunderstanding involved here but we felt completely overcharged for what we got.
- Dirk (9/5): Superb - When I arrived at the Happy Corner Lodge, Ousman greeted me very warmly, so I immediately felt at home. After a few days, I even extended my pre-booked stay.
The location is very central. The public buses stop and start at the police station. From there, it is only a few meters to the lodge. You are in the middle of town, close to the river and the ferry. There is a restaurant located almost opposite.
You quickly get in touch with local guides who offer various beautiful tours in the area, including boat trips to see the chimpanzees and hippos.
The rooms are simple but adequately equipped, there is now WiFi in the rooms and public areas and the power supply seems to be more reliable here than in the coastal region.
The breakfast is good and very filling. There is plenty of coffee, even later on. The service from the staff is exceptional. You quickly feel a friendly bond, and they will even wash a piece of laundry for free or invite you to lunch or dinner.
By the way, I felt very safe and welcome throughout the place at all times. You are greeted in a friendly manner everywhere and you get in touch to people without feeling like it is just business.
I can really recommend the stay!
