Guest Reviews
- Ganegoda (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were very spacious and clean. There was a great view. All the staff were extremely friendly and nice. Nothing.
- Shane (1/5): Not great at all - - mould in rooms
- water wasn’t working
- bed sheets had stains
- rooms smelt damp
- flooring ripped
- towels had stains
- Morgen (3/5): Ok but wouldn’t stay again - The bed size was good and good balcony size too. We thought for what we paid for 3 nights the place is a bit outdated and not as good as the photos.
We know this isn’t the hotels fault but it was very loud outside late at nights and early early in the mornings.
The outside of the properly needs a big repaint it looks like they’re just happy to take reservations but not work on the property which needs money spending on it, the toilet leaked a bit. The bedsheets didn’t properly fit the bed so a few times we would be sleeping on just tje mattress bit.
Shower hose leaked out, sink tap leaked out. Had to ask for towels as they forgot to give us.
There wasn’t many staff at all in sight everytime we were there felt like no one worked there.
The location is close into Hiriketiya town but I wouldn’t stay again as it was just slightly too far for us,
Luckily we had a Tuk Tuk rental but would’ve struggled if we didn’t.
Personally wouldn’t stay here again and should’ve listened to the reviews beforehand I wouldn’t mind if it was a cheaper price but for what we paid we should’ve expected more really.
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Megan (3/5): It’s was ok but I wouldn’t stay again - The view was good. Bed room and bathroom was a good size We had a scooter and the roads to the property were not great. The staff had no idea what they were doing, they all just stood around confused at our arrival and most of the time. The location isn’t ideal. The room was never cleaned and never given fresh towels or water.
- Rheza (4/5): Has potential but needs work - The staff were super and did their best to work with what they have been given. Relatively close (walking distance) to Blue Beach and Batheegama Beach. I don't know who does the star ratings for bookig.com but this is definitely not a 4* hotel, it is barely 2*. The pictures must have been taken when the hotel was first built because it looks quite run down now and barely resembles the photos. The rooms are spacious but need updating, the pool was broken so they were putting in a new one when we were there, which meant workers and dust, as well as no pool. It looked like the new pool would be ready soon so that would improve maters. The view of the sea is also partially blocked by a pink monstrosity built in front of Mazarine with another new facility coming up as well.
From the moment we arrived we could see that the hotel was not going to be up to the the standard we expected. It was pretty disappointing but I have to give credit to the staff who were excellent, friendly and always smiling.
- Kulatunga (9/5): Superb -
- Grace (8/5): Very good -
- Hayden (7/5): Good -
- Fiona (6/5): Has loads of potential - This property has so much potential but u would think it has just opened as somethings not complete, but other things old. The rooms need more furnishing eg somewhere to put ur bags. A chair or lounge upstairs. It had great views and a little outside of town which I thought was better. Easy to walk in or 500 or less for a tuktuk . Shower was good. The pool was green so couldn’t use and the manager doesn’t seem to want to help. Friendly but there is no vibe or atmosphere. Play some music in reception or tell us more about things eg: breakfast times or how to use the blinds in the room. First beds that we found hard. Security guy more helpful and very friendly. I would suggest the go have a look around some other places like Bettie’s down the hill or salt to get a feeeling of what travelers want.
This place could be really good . We found it comfortable enough and had a lift which gave us some space. Good luck getting this place really working to potential. RAA. Restaurant and blue beach are close
- Lahari (4/5): Below average - The rooms were spacious and comfortable The service and facilities are very poor. When we arrived we were shocked to find the hotel in a state of disrepair. The gate was broken and the pool was empty and filthy. There was no staff around to accept us. And when they did come, we were told that the room would not be ready for another half an hour. We ended up getting the room at 4, 2 hours after the check in time. The staff did not seem too concerned or offer any solutions.
- Amanda (5/5): Passable - The staff was amazing - super kind and accommodating.
The room was clean The bed was very hard
- Leshani (6/5): Pleasant - Check in was at 2 pm and We arrived at 3 pm and the room was only ready at 3 45 pm.
I had 3 rooms and only 1 was ready.
- Dhakshitha (5/5): Comfortable - Cleanliness of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff. Staff were very friendly and attentive. What you see is not what you get. Pool was under renovation and there was no TV which were not informed. AC did not work in one room and had to shift to another. Dining area needs to be enclosed to keep away the flies
- Nadeesha (7/5): Good -
- Anil (8/5): Really good... - The staff was really good and the rooms were really comfortable ... Food was awesome There were some issues with water...
- Lasanthi (5/5): Passable - Location is excellent and rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast was disappointing and not sufficient.
- Sajith (2/5): More than Anything, staff is very friendly and they attend to any request with the passion. - Very clean and super food. Friendly staff. Nothing
- Subothini (10/5): We recently enjoyed a delightful two-night stay at Mazarin Surf, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. From the - Very spacious, staffs are very friendly and polite:)
- Raz (10/5): Best value for money - Great stuff, very pleasant and nice workers. I will come back for sure! All was perfect
- Liam (10/5): Really clean and lovely view! - Everyone was very friendly and helpful! The room was clean. For the last night Roshan made a lovely swan on our bed with flowers.
- טובול (9/5): 😁 - Very beautiful hotel, wonderful crew. A bit quiet but very close to the main beach.
- Ben (4/5): Disappointing - The location was good very quite and close to the beach. The bed was amazing We stayed 2 nights. No house keeping. T. V didn't work. Only 2 power points worked
- Noa (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice hotel, staff, facilities. Quite location 12 minutes walk from blue beach
- Pål (7/5): Probably the nicest hotel we stayed at in sri lanka. Smiling staff and nice rooms. - We had two different rooms during our stay and they were both nice. And spacious.
Probably our nicest hotel in sri lanka. The manager spoke some english and was polite and smiling. Others did not speak english but were nice people. The beds were very hard.
- Piyaly (4/5): Rooms were clean and the staff was nice. Location is not so ideal. - Breakfast was included in the price, and they just served a very small platter of fruits and a single thin pancake cut up into 4 pieces. No value for money.
- Michelle (8/5): Overall happy with our stay. - Clean rooms and good location. The bed could be more comfortable. Mattress was a bit hard.
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Steve (1/5): Complete Nightmare from start to finish and even a couple days after - We booked the King Suite which came with a balcony and we had an ocean view. The property is conveniently located near Hiriketiya beach which is a 5 minute walk. Our highly anticipated New Year's Eve stay at Mazarine Surf Suites turned into my worst hotel experience ever. Despite reserving a premium Deluxe King Suite with a Sea View, the reality was disappointing from the start. The room was in poor condition, with a used and poorly maintained shower, wet toilet area, foul smells, and indications that the room wasn't cleaned as promised. Dusty towels, malfunctioning air conditioning, and a non-functional TV added to the dissatisfaction.
Breakfast was underwhelming, the advertised pool was unusable, and our request for a refund on the second day was initially denied. Despite agreeing to stay if the room was cleaned, the management refused to change the sheets, insisting they were clean. Our stay became a series of maintenance requests, contrasting sharply with our friends' trouble-free experience at a much cheaper nearby place.
Constant power outages, water supply cuts, and unreliable amenities disrupted our three-day stay. Despite a 15% discount upon checkout, it failed to compensate for the terrible experience. After our initial review a week after we left the property, the General Manager harassed us, offering us a bribe and falsely marking us as a no-show to get rid of the review. Privacy concerns led to canceling our credit card. The property's advertised condition, reflected in reviews, seems outdated and misleading. Our overall experience raises questions about the legitimacy of positive reviews for this hotel.
- Chamu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Qashqari (1/5): Bad - Hotel security prevented us from leaving the grounds after 10pm, TV wasn’t working, and, A/C stopped working midway and started dripping water
- Thilini (7/5): Good -
- Audrius (8/5): Very good -
- Karolina (4/5): Could be better - The people working there are very helpful and when my ac was not working they fixed it like at midnight. They also packed me breakfast for my early flight, really nice. It’s very overpriced! The rooms are NOT as nice as on the pictures, rooms are not very clean especially bathroom, the building from the outside looks really bad, overall not worth the money. I stayed in a better hotel for 30€ a night
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very good modshan the manger was fantastic
- Bagri (10/5): Fabulous stay at Mazarine Surf and Suites - The owner managing the entire show Mr Gohan was super helpful and very nice.. he ensured we had a fabulous stay there.. the rooms were spacious with great views overlooking the Indian ocean.. the staffs were really helpful and we had an amazing stay.. it is just 5-7 mins walking distance from Hiriketiya Bay and highly recommended!! They can do slightly better keeping Indian food options in the menu but given the less no of indian travelers it was understandable .. the washroom glasses were translucent and can be a bit unnerving for some folks..rest everything was great
- Benjamin (2/5): Dirty rooms, incompetent staff, slow and poor breakfast - not up to 4 star hotel standards. - The bed. Rooms were very dirty, breakfast took forever to arrive, poor staff, opening door to our room without knocking first.
- Lior (10/5): Exceptional - Nice Breakfast for vegans nice sea view from room very nice room All good
- Phillip (7/5): Good -
- Diana (5/5): Passable - View from the window
Spacious room
Nice terrace 1. There was a hair dryer in the room with unsafe wires.
2. The pillows smelled of sweat, very strongly. This is unacceptable. They asked to replace it, they helped only the second time.
3. There is no one at the reception, quite often. Therefore, they left the key to the waiter during the eviction.
4. It is not possible to pay with an online card.
- Therani (7/5): Was conformable. A/C didnt work too well either - View was great Couldnt pay using debit or credit card
Had to pay by bank transfer which was not convenient
- Werner (10/5): Loved the staff and its quite surroundings! - Its clean and with big rooms! Likes the sea view
- Zafir (5/5): Was passable since it was a shot stay - Breakfast was ok not much choice coffee and tea was not served Rooms were not ready when we got to the property
- Ester (10/5): Very fun stay - Very nice place, clean, nice view, good breakfast, the service was great and we really enjoyed our stay The elevator didn’t work
- Conor (3/5): I would not stay here if I ever came back to Hiriketiya - The staff are friendly Online photos of the rooms and hotel are misleading. There are stains on the room floor, stains in the bed sheets, the rooms floor was wet everywhere when we checked in as if it had been mopped but never dried. The bathroom was always damp and smelt bad. On New Year’s Day when we went down for breakfast, the staff were still drunk from the night before and were not ready to serve breakfast. From an operating perspective it feels like some young locals were given the responsibility to run the hotel but have very little experience doing so.
- Jonny (10/5): Staff were amazing. All super friendly -
- Gaukhar (10/5): Amazing stay and experience! - Mazarine is one of the best hotels in the area with top notch rooms, facilities and service. Staff were very helpful and kind, special thanks for the manager Gihan who was online 24/7 to solve any issues and help with any questions.
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, rooms were spacious and modern, couldn’t have asked for more!
- Freddie (10/5): Breathtaking views and friendly staff. - Beautiful view and conveniently located, friendly and helpful staff. For the price it was perfect, room perhaps a bit dated but in terms of value for money there is no scope for complaints.
- Pasan (10/5): Simply lovely - Scenic Views with great facilities.Only down side would be the access roads to the hotel. But its a hidden gem under all the other hotels
- Krishantha (7/5): Good - Good location & friendly staff!!👍🏻
- Nissoka (10/5): Exceptional - I recently had a delightful stay at this hotel. Despite being in its early stages, the hospitality was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to make my experience memorable. While there were minor hiccups, their genuine efforts and warm service overshadowed any disappointments. Looking forward to returning and witnessing the continued growth of this promising establishment!
- Weerasena (10/5): Exceptional -
- De (10/5): It was convenient stay with no hiccups! And we were able to explore Hiriketiya worry free! - The Hotel was overall a great deal. Had an amazing view, near proximity to the famous Hiriketiya Beach and convenient to reach the nearest town Dickwella. No complaints at all to the staff, who provided the best possible service. Food was also great, there were quite a few breakfast options, which is also nice. The room was clean and spacious, and had a lot of amenities. No complaints at all
- Nikolaus (10/5): Exceptional - Very spacious rooms, good breakfast and super friendly staff! :)
- Adrianna (7/5): Good - View from the window, helpful staff, room standard (toiletries, water, tea), free welcome drink Room description is misleading and photos don't reflect reality, very limited breakfast options, no warm water in the hotel, long waiting time to check-in despite being the only guests
- Fassy (10/5): Best stay so far with a awesome beach to have fun! - My recent stay at Mazarine Surf Suites and visit to Hiriketiya Beach was a truly wonderful experience. From start to finish, it was a memorable and relaxing getaway.
Mazarine Surf Suites offered a cozy and comfortable haven for our stay. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, and the staff was friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home.
Hiriketiya Beach, just a stone's throw away, was a slice of paradise. The golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and the gentle sound of the waves were incredibly soothing. Whether we were sunbathing, swimming, or just strolling along the shore, the beach provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation.
Surfing at Hiriketiya Beach was an absolute highlight. The local surf instructors were patient and skilled, and we had a blast catching some waves. It was a fantastic experience, and we couldn't get enough of it.
The dining options near the beach were fantastic too. We indulged in some mouthwatering local dishes at the nearby restaurants, and every meal was a delightful culinary adventure.
In summary, our stay at Mazarine Surf Suites and our time at Hiriketiya Beach left us with nothing but positive memories. The simplicity and beauty of the location, the friendly people, and the serene atmosphere made it a truly special trip. We can't wait to return for another visit to this hidden paradise by the sea.
- Gurusinghe (10/5): Fabulous - I recently had the pleasure of staying at Mazarine Surf Suites, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. The luxurious accommodations, coupled with exceptional service, made my stay truly memorable. I can’t wait to return to Mazarine Surf Suites on my next visit. Highly recommended!
- Hiruni (6/5): Pleasant -
- Liubov (7/5): Contrast of emotions - The staff is super nice and friendly, very flexible and trying to do their best to make you feel comfortable. Also, the manager very attentive and ready to help with any issue or request!
Location is very particular, it is close enough to hiriketya beach, nice views and in the middle of the nature (monkeys and peacocks around), which on the other side can be a problematic in the dark, it is farer from the main road and you would need a bike or a tuk tuk to get to the town or anywhere beyond the beach.
The room is OK, there is hot water, A/C, big balcony and nice bathroom, although the glass solution is a little weird when you go toilet. The swimming pool unfortunately was closed, which was really pity, because the view from the top roof is just amazing.
Breakfast only two choices, for a longer stay it gets boring. Although I have to highlight that the breakfast itself is tasty, especially we liked the Sri lankian one, and I loved the avocado juice. Also, we appreciated the take-away breakfast for the excursions. We had the best in the group:)
I wouldn't say this is a real 4 stars hotel, so I would see it slightly overpriced.
Wi fi is not that strong: once you have more than one visitor, it gets really weak.
The road to the hotel is very tight and bumpy, the big excursion bus couldn't get till the hotel, so we had to walk down (which in the middle of the night is not the nicest feeling). Also we had some issues with the street dog which was attacking during the night on the road about 300m from the hotel, which forced us the last few days not to go out anymore late for dinner and seek to eat at the hotel.
- Harshana (8/5): Pleasing property - Staff with GM Mr thanushka and Suraj and everyone was very hospitable. New property with upgraded facilities. Walking distance to hiriketiya surfing point. Breakfast and food was good and very flexible with things. Can recommend. Only thing to improve road access as it needs to be cleared to make way and when rains roads become muddy.
- Imraaaans (1/5): Bad - The location was the only thing which was as advertised. We were asked for the payment upon checking in, and after a couple of hours, I was informed that the payment was collected without tax, so to pay the tax amount. We do not believe this should happen in an organized tourism facility.
I found spider webs and dust in the room, which looked like it had been more than a month without cleaning. However, the bed was fresh, and the toilet was cleaned.
I requested for my breakfast to be arranged at 7:30 AM one night prior. But it was only arranged at 8:45 AM. We had our travel planned for 9AM, which was then delayed for another 1 hour because of the slow service.
The hotel was advertised to have a swimming pool on booking.com, which was one of the main reasons we booked the place. But we were dissatisfied and disappointed to know it wasn't functional. We were informed that a pool would be arranged for us, but we didn't hear back from the hotel in charge.
Finally, when we complained about these things to the in charge, we were advised that nothing could be done by him.
The whole experience was really a disappointment. That too when a beautifully made hotel failed to give the service they should have.
- Panchalee (8/5): Had an amazing stay here! - The cleanliness and the comfort of the rooms were excellent!
