- Steven (8/5): Quaint, well equipped property on hillside location close to Halifax and with great views - Quaint property on hillside location with good views 2 miles from Halifax centre. Small but well equipped kitchen with welcome pack of essentials. Hosts communication excellent with good information provided in the property about it and the and surrounding area. Parking for one car located close by the property. Ideal for short break and base for exploring the area. Stairs down to bedroom and upstairs to mezzanine are steep so may not suit all,
- Julia (10/5): Excellent stay - Beautifully furnished property

The owners are nearby, super helpful and very quick to respond to any queries.
Ideal, quiet location, 5 minutes from Halifax centre but surrounded by beautiful countryside, ideal for walking. Very friendly local pub too.

- Graham (9/5): A great unique property in a great location. - It’s a great location, ideal for local pubs and to get into Halifax with a bus service at the end of the road.
The kitchen is well stocked, with all that you need for a short stay and toiletries are also provided.
Stacey, the host is always very sccomodating, enabling an earlier check in. The bed is up against the wall making it difficult for the second person to get in/out. Could it not be turned around?
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sedg (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dawn (10/5): Excellent little place , great location - Very nice place, different from any other place we have stayed. Very cosy and clean Pub at the bottom doesn't serve food, but very good ales
- Carla (10/5): I didn't want to leave! - Communication with the hosts was great, the welcome pack had everything you'd need to know, the property has been done to such a high standard and was spotless. I stayed here as I was attending a sewing retreat at Dean Clough and it was the perfect place to chill out after the busy days.
- Eric (10/5): Northawram Yorkshire stay - Everything we needed for our stay. Beautiful quiet location.
- Adele (8/5): quaint little place - all of it difficult to get hob working
- Beverley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mark (10/5): Fantastic place to stay for a nice getaway - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, if the property is available next time I'm visiting the area, it will be top of my list
- Anja (9/5): Superb -
- Vincent (9/5): All you could want 😃 - Quiet and peaceful Maybe a bit of outside space
- Louise (10/5): Lovely cottage - Lovely cottage and the extra touches made it even more lovely.. We really enjoyed our weekend away and was so nice to relax and recharge in the evening after a few drinks.. Nice little setup.. Loved looking through how the cottage was made, too.. 👌
- Sam (10/5): Stunning property - Extremely well kept property. Well stocked with the little things you need - tea, coffee, milk, butter etc. Stunning interior. Well located for trips to many sites in and around Halifax. Great communication from the owner, clear instructions for your arrival. Very informative booklet that helped us with using the different appliances and heating. Wifi available and a Bluetooth speaker. We absolutely loved our stay here and are already planning another visit.
- Vivian (8/5): Great little place. - Very clean, warm and well appointed. Small but adequate space, quirky building which has been well converted. There was a very large fridge but no storage space for non-fridge food items.
- Toni (10/5): Incredible stay! Beautiful property and beautiful location - The property is so unique and was genuinely such a lovely place to stay, it was incredibly clean and homely, walking distance of shops and a pub literally 20 steps from the property. The location is incredible the views were beautiful and the people in the area were so friendly. The owners were lovely and helpful everything was explained to us upon arrival and replied fast when messaged, we are planning on staying again at some point I genuinely don’t think I can think of anything that was bad!
- Nic (9/5): Thank you so much for a lovely weekend very handy for visiting my son in sowerby. Cosy little accommodation perfect for - Beautifully renovated to a very high standard quirky historic and unique. Very friendly accommodating hosts, great communication and instructions. Private parking perfect for one vehicle. No microwave but that’s a minor gripe on my part.
- Kerry (10/5): Beautiful - Beautiful accommodation. Immaculately clean. A lovely relaxing place to stay.
- Pam (10/5): Excellent stay in cosy, quirky cottage. - Clean, comfortable. Good location for Halifax town and great local dog walks in the countryside.
Fascinating history to the property, being the boiler room for a house and stable block on the site of an old brewery. Loved the historical information about the property, its restoration and local area provided in the house book and other books, also the retention of the old chimney and bathroom fittings in keeping with the property's history. Excellent food at Stump Cross Inn, 2 minutes drive away. Also great dog friendly local pub The Windmill Tavern within 100 metres. Easy to communicate with helpful owners. Nothing.
- Malgorzata (9/5): Great value for money. - My guest rated the property very highly and enjoyed his stay. Check in was easy, good facilities. Clean and quiet. I did not stay there so cannot provide more detail. In order to visit my guest and work together, I had to park far away as there wasn't anywhere near the property to leave my car with space restricted to one vehicle only.
- Stacey (10/5): Weekend Away - Lovely property, had everything we needed, parking space was a bonus & not far from the accommodation. Close enough to walk to pubs, Shibden Hall & slightly further walk to town but still walkable.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Great location, well maintained space, good facilities
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (10/5): Great place to stay and use as a base. Easy to get to/from Halifax. - It was a comfortable, uniquely converted building.
The provision of basic supplies like milk, tea/coffee and even butter were a god send.
Being just 50 yards from a pub that sold a great selection of real ales was a great bonus! Nothing x
- Kyrone (9/5): Superb -
- Rosie (10/5): very nice stay! - it was great! very spacious, extremely well decorated, very comfortable and homely. was easy to access and helpful having a private parking space. would definitely stay again
- Streeton (9/5): Superb - Whole property was fantastic
- Karin (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (10/5): Fantastic place, ideally located for Halifax - Fantastic place to stay. We were staying in the area for a family celebration. Had absolutely everything we needed, was beautifully decorated to a really high spec and spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional -
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Carolann (7/5): Quirky home from home - Property has everything you need to make yourself at home. Bed was so comfy and lovely bedding too, bathroom was stunning with a lot of attention to detail with the finish when it's been renovated. Parking space was the reason I booked this property as wanted a guaranteed parking space nearby. Easy to get an Uber from the Windmill Tavern into town and back, cost approx £5 each way. Can't say I read in the description that it was a dog friendly property (but very well might have said it was and I've missed it) but there was a lot of dog hair on the sofa, on the stairs down to the bedroom and under the mezzanine staircase. Not immediately noticeable until I looked at my black jeans or socks after being on the sofa or walking about. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, just didn't expect dog hair on my clothes.
- Jane (10/5): Perfect little place, lots of places to explore. 10 min Taxi drive to Piece Hall Halifax - What a fantastic little place! Clean, comfy, quirky .Would defiantly recommend ! 10 min Taxi drive to Piece Hall Halifax. Taxi driver gave us the History of Halifax :) Would defiantly stay again.
20 min drive to Happy Valley
Great little pub at the bottom of the lane "The Windmill" very friendly local people. Nothing
- Emma (7/5): Great location, spotlessly clean and renovated to a high standard. - Communication prior to arrival was very clear making it easy to find and check in to the property.
The renovation has been done to a very high standard and it was spotlessly clean. The kitchen area was well stocked with everything you might need and the tea, coffee and biscuits were a nice touch. The idea to leave the small sachets of butter is a great idea.
Even though it was June the bedroom was cold, but once the heating was on it warmed up nicely. There was some noise from the live music at the pub, but this couldn’t be heard from the bedroom, so didn’t impact sleep.
The bed is comfy but located up against a wall so the person on the inside has to climb over the other to get up.
Due to the layout of the building the sofa was set sideways on to the TV, making it difficult to watch. It’s also not the most comfiest to relax on.
Due to the different levels and steep stairs this wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional little cottage - Exceptional little cottage that was ideal for my needs. Spotlessly clean, quirky, very well presented. Nothing! Except I've tried to book again when working in the area, but unsurprisingly, it's booked up!
- Karen (10/5): Gorgeous stay in quirky stable. - Fantastic stay in a quirky spotless property. Renovated beautifully. We loved it and would definitely stay again. No cupboard space for food items. We also would have welcomed a recycling bin. Minor issues.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place for a solo traveler, or a couple.
I was brought up in Northowram, so could imagine if a guest is not from the area it could be a little tricky to find, however I was given plenty of information regarding getting to the property etc.
- William (10/5): Exceptional - Finished to a very high standard
- Lisa (9/5): Perfect for a short stay and visiting Halifax - Loved the stable it was cosy and quirky. Everything you needed for a short stay. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The shower worked well. Parking in a designated space close by was good. Tea, coffee and milk pods on arrival were nice. The welcome book was informative and it was nice to see the progression of the stables build. Alexa was entertaining. We don't have this at home so we used this rather than watching TV. The history books were nice to read in the evening rather than TV. Only a short drive into Halifax. You wouldn't want to walk as it's a very steep hill to walk back. The sofa wasn't very comfortable. The oven, grill, microwave wasn't easy to use as it's so dark I struggled to see the display. Not sure if the lights weren't working. I had to use a torch to see it at night to set it. The path going up to the gate is very uneven and muddy if you have poor mobility this isn't the place to stay for you. Stairs are quite steep down to the bedroom and even steeper going up to the upstairs seating area. The ivy growing as you go into the wooden gate needs cutting back my curly hair got tangled up in it when going in and out.
- Fran (10/5): You won't be disappointed, book - Comfortable, quirky, and everything you need.
Location was perfect for the purpose of the visit (sadly attending a funeral)
Felt safe as a solo traveller.
I always prefer space to just a hotel bedroom, but like something a little unique and not boring. Nothing to dislike at all - if your mobility isn't great, you need to be aware there's narrow steps down to the bedroom.
- Bridgetsam (9/5): Excellent base for exploring - Really gorgeous converted stables which made the perfect base for visiting family and friends in the area. Well equipped, easy to find and park, close to all the amenities we needed. Great booklet provided in the property with lots about the local area and how the facilities (eg oven, heating etc) worked. We were very comfortable! The bed was down a flight of stairs on a different level to the bathroom which wasn’t an issue for us but could be for some.
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (10/5): Perfect. - Comfort.
Cleanliness.
Compact.
Photographs showing restoration and history of the place.
Peaceful.
Warm.
Large comfortable bed.
We will definitely return should we find ourselves back in the area.
All in all we were 100% satisfied.
Absolutely stunning place.
Thank you 🙂. Absolutely nothing.
- Sal (9/5): Very good place to stay and would recommend it - Very clean, everything you need, owners was very nice and helpful and good location Pillows was too hard and the kitchen area was dark so suggest a light to be fitted
- Rebecca (10/5): I’ll stay there again - Beautifully renovated, quirky cottage. Every detail thought about to make stay easy and comfortable
- Warren (10/5): Cozy little property that's perfect for a couple or small family. - The location was perfect and the property looked brand new. The hosts communication was second to none. Hard to find anything we didn't like. Parking was a little tricky, in a large car, but that was due to the other residents had parked making it difficult to get in the bay but nothing that can't be overcome.
- Diane (8/5): Cosy dog-friendly accommodation - Very clean, warm and comfortable. Private despite being near other houses. Smelled gorgeous due to lovely reed diffusers. Plenty of tea, coffee and bathroom products provided, as well as bowls and treats for the dog! Great that we could leave the dog while we went out and that we could take her into the nearby pub. Couldn't find a colander or seive to drain the pasta we cooked (but maybe I didn't look well enough!) Not much hanging space for clothes. The road up from the main street is steep and cobbled which my little car struggled with.
- David (8/5): We had a very comfortable stay and got a lot of exercise. - The property is very comfy and quiet. The kitchen is well equipped and the WIFI is good. The property is located near the top of an extremely steep hill, serviced by an infrequent bus route. You either have to walk up/down the hill or use a car.
- Fiona (9/5): Clean well equipped small property with great communication from owners - Property was ideally located for me visiting family close by. Property is good for 2 people, it was very clean and well supplied with fridge, cooking and cleaning facilities. Some basic provisions, tea, coffee, milk, butter, sugar to help out on arrival. I found the property clean and quiet. The only issues I saw were stairs to the ground floor where the bedroom is. Also steep stairs to a small mezzanine area with two single fold out beds. None of this was an issue for me but maybe difficult for an elderly or less mobile person
- Sally (10/5): Perfection! - A beautiful ad quiet location, Stacey our host was helpful, freindly and couldn't do more to provide excellent service.
The accommodation was stunning, so comfortable, clean and warm. It has every facility you would want or need, secure off road parking, it was just perfect! Nothing, perfect!
- Catriona (10/5): A lovely, comfortable stay in a unique, clean building at a very affordable price! - This was a lovely, comfortable and clean property, a perfect combination of traditional and modern. Everything from wifi to cooking facilities was explained in the folder, as well as suggestions for local activities. A huge fridge with tea/ coffee / sugar/butter provided was a lovely touch. Such a reasonable price for a wonderful stay, and while the hosts were friendly and available, they left me to enjoy the experience Nothing
- Claire (10/5): Beautiful stable conversion, definitely recommend to others visiting Halifax - We had a lovely stay in the stable conversion. Everything we could need to make our stay enjoyable was provided and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms were very clean and a good size and a private parking space was provided. Welcome pack is provided explaining how to use the kitchen equipment and also provides recommendations for places to eat. We walked into Halifax which took about an hour but there is a bus stop close by for those not wanting to tackle the hills, we decided to take an Uber back which was around £7. The Windmill Tavern is a stones throw away which was lovely and friendly. There is also a good pub serving home cooked meals and an Italian in walking distance both of which served lovely food. Nothing we loved it.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Stayed one night to attend a concert in Halifax. Instructions from the owners were excellent and access to the property - Quirky individual property, tastefully renovated and very well equipped including extras such as Alexa, shower gel, toothpaste, food accompaniments etc.
Good for access to Halifax or the surrounding beautiful countryside. Nothing….all good!
- Rebecca (10/5): Great amenities, comfy bed, well furnished. - Great amenities, comfy bed, well furnished.
- Harriet (10/5): Really special place. - A little gem of a house; surpassed even the rave reviews from other guests. A work trip turned into a mini vacation because of this gorgeous conversion. Super quirky but absolutely comfortable; our hosts had thought of EVERYTHING, it all worked (top notch fixtures and fittings)and worked beautifully. Excellent private parking and easy access to and from the property. Really thoughtful kitchen equipment (unused by us) but we did appreciate the tea and coffee making things and really loved the toiletries in the bathroom. Super fast wifi too. Easy access down into Halifax either by car, on the bus (frequent and quick from opposite the Stump Cross Inn) or on foot. Took us a leisurely 20 minutes. Super quiet and peaceful location with a real ale pub a hundred yards away and great meals at Stump Cross. All in all a really super experience. Nothing at all; the house was exactly as per the photos and description so no disappointments or nasty surprises, in fact it was even nicer than we had thought it could possibly be.
- Kay (8/5): A great base and would recommend. - The accommodation is really well thought out and converted with great use made of the space available. Extremely clean and well supplied with toiletries, condiments and kitchen supplies. Just a small niggle with the position of the bed being so tight against the wall.
- Sarah (9/5): A lovely place that was warm comfortable and extremely well designed and tasteful. - Bigger than expected and a great design with fantastic materials and attention to detail The weird oven / microwave - way too complex and time consuming to work out.
- Anonymous (10/5): A lovely stay. Excellent value for money. - Beautiful property, had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean.
- Sharon (10/5): Perfect - convenient for Halifax and Shibden Hall - Beautifully converted property, 10 minutes from the centre of Halifax. Close to Shibden Hall and park. Stacey is lovely. She even left me chocolates and a card for my birthday. Thank you x a perfect stay
- Samantha (10/5): Lovely location, super comfortable and clean and perfect for our needs - This property was absolutely gorgeous. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, a little home from home. Will definately be back and will recommend to anyone staying in the local area There was nothing not to like,
- Charlotte (10/5): Outstanding property, great location, perfect for couples - The location was perfect for us, we were visiting family in Shelf so it was ideal. There is a pub 2 mins walk away and lots to do nearby. The place itself is outstanding, the decor is lovely, newly refurbished to a high standard. Really clean and had everything we needed. We can't wait to stay again :) nothing
- Paula (10/5): Great stay in Halifax - Fabulous refurbishment of the home with lots of additional thoughtful features throughout
Great to have a decent parking space on arrival.
Great instructions for arrival and felt very safe there
Loved the rooms on different levels and the additional beds as well as the main bed downstairs.
Shower has only a small step in which was fab. Copper accessories in shower room were lovely.
Although only a couple of miles into Halifax, we used Uber in both directions. Both with us within 5 mins.
- Victoria (10/5): Excellent Stay In A Beautiful Property - Great hosts.
Lovely decor, excellent facilities. Tea tray was a nice touch as well as the extra toiletries and cleaning products. Really comfortable bed we had a great night's sleep.
- Lorraine (10/5): cosy & clean brilliant, just what we needed. - This property is a little Gem, we went on a Girlie night, and this place was fantastic, up a hill but not a problem for us. The facilities are second to none, everything has been thought out to a T. Clean and comfy. Will defiantly stay here again. oh, and the people in the Windmill Pub at the bottom of the hill were brilliant. Thank you Julian & Stacey
- Kim (8/5): beautiful place, wish we could have stayed longer - property is beautiful and fit for a long or short stay in Halifax the stairs were very steep inside and location was too far to walk to and from eureka (just because we had a 6 + 3 yr old)
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
