Guest Reviews
- Sally (1/5): -
- Angharad (8/5): An enjoyable stay and I would return. - Great location. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Breakfast not the best value for money but it was tasty. I felt I could have eaten more.
- Debbie (10/5): - Lovely room lovely view. Clean. Good value for price
- Jordan (8/5): Great stay for value and location - As living previously in Ilfracombe I know this hotel is a great location, right by the sea front. Bus stop literally around the corner to take you to Barnstaple. Parking is hit and miss especially during season. Plenty of shops down along the pier
- Donna (9/5): Great value for money hotel in the middle of Ilfracombe and on the seafront, would definitely go again. - Excellent location and right on the seafront. Rooms a little dated but clean but it didn’t affect our comfort and stay. The pillows could do with renewing they were a bit flat.
- Bhaaswanth (5/5): -

- Simon (5/5): - Location amazing
Breakfast excellent 5 different orders and as requested all done to perfection and hot Room was like a sauna
Lots of stairs.
Carpets dated and seen better days
Bathroom in room 6 shower needs attention
- Troszczynska (6/5): - The room was very clean and we could see the staff care and clean. All staff was also very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very old and the owner should consider major refurbishment. No air conditioner in the room was a big problem especially that the temperature outside was 25-27 degrees. On a first day we didn't have hot water and all the other three days we had some problems with hot water as well.
- Timothy (7/5): -
- Adrian (8/5): Nice budget hotel in a great harbourside location. - Room was nice and clean, lovely shower. Parking is very expensive unless you are happy to walk some distance to the hotel. We parked at the carpark off High Street - £10 for 24 hours - 15-20 mins walk.
- Rafal (3/5): Not worth the premium price - Location and staff Room was terrible. Mixer in the shower not working. Windows not stopping any noise from outside. All very run down.
- Sally (7/5): Very good for the reunion I attended - Convenient for yacht club Stairs and position of my room on side of building
- Richard (9/5): -
- Paula (7/5): - Location was great, near the harbour. Nice to have tea and coffee making facilities. The showerhead leaked making water squirt the wrong way.
- Simon (3/5): - Location was beautiful. Poor standard of hotel. In need of serious renovations. Looks old and tired.
- K3lw1n (3/5): Disappointing - View out over the harbour Lady behind the bar was lovely but it took almost 45 minutes to check in as the manager disappeared and didn't turn up when she called. The room didnt have a window that opened and smelt of dog, it was dirty and very dusty.
- Melanie (8/5): - Very accommodating staff, good shower, great location at the harbour. Good value for your money. On Saturday there was life music in a bar close by which was a bit loud. Also, the doors close loudly.
- Lydia (7/5): Have stayed a few times and it has never disappointed. Clean and comfy. - Clean and comfortable. Not all the windows open so some rooms you cannot enjoy the sounds of the harbour
- Mel (10/5): -
- cecil (8/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): -
- Peter (9/5): - The location is excellent overlooking the harbour. It felt that we were almost on the beach! The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. There wasn't really anything to not like. Generally, the room was clean and tidy, and the main public and bar area's regularly cleaned, floors washed etc.
- Tite (6/5): - Location and people, staff and locals very friendly. The rooms were perfectly located although we did have a lot of stairs. If you upgrade the mattresses you would have got a 10. The mattresses were horrible and very uncomfortable and noisy beds. Terrible night sleep. Such a shame. That was the only requiring improvement
- Bodo (8/5): - Schöner Ort Hotel zentral
- Xanthe (7/5): -
- Russell (10/5): -
- Rich (10/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): -
- David (9/5): - Location Dangerous windows
- Richard (1/5): Absolutely dreadful place - There was nothing to like. The room we was dirty. The curtains didn't meet in the middle. The TV didn't work. We complained they put us in another room. And that room wasn't cleaned. Bathroom looked it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Then they put us in another room. Which wasn't clean. There was black marks all over the walls. The TV remote didn't work. The Bathroom was dirty. The staff wasn't helpful at all. So don't stay here. We got our stuff and left in the night
- Robin (7/5): Cheap and cheerfull - very convenient for lundy ferry.
Went out of season so possibly quieter than might have been Small bathroom but adequate
- Jennifer (8/5): Great for Lundy travel - Great location, with view over harbour, nice big room. Only stayed overnight after returning from Lundy and had to get an early bus to catch our train, so no time for breakfast. Dripping taps.
- Alan (5/5): - Location and clean room and bathroom Entrance, ground floor and restaurant needs some serious attention
- Dev (10/5): -
- Turnell (10/5): Perfect spot for a short break - Lovely location, quirky rooms very comfortable bed. Food was superb. Thank you for a great stay.
- Jenne (7/5): You pay for what you get although I must say it was very clean and comfortable beds. The shower was old school but at le - It was in a great location close to the SWCP. Thin walls we had a baby in the room next door that woke every three hours and so did we.
Also we couldn’t open the windows to let in fresh air they were nailed shut.
- Jonathan (5/5): Acceptable accommodation in an excellent location - It’s location is excellent The downstairs pub/bar where we headed in the early evening to eat was loud and not particularly child-friendly…
- Simon (5/5): Nice view but a shame about the amenities - The shower, toilet and the bed were good. The view over the harbour was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful There was no fridge in the room. There was no parking, which meant a walk from paid parking. The room had very little ventilation and so became quite humid. Not a real problem now but in the summer we could imagine would be difficult
- Liz (6/5): Great location with plenty of parking nearby. - Location and view of the harbour Basic
- Jenny (4/5): It was ok but I wouldn’t return - The location was perfect. I don’t feel the hotel was very clean our room was very dusty and I didn’t understand why the family room was on the top floor when we had to carry a baby up and luggage .
- Gunes (10/5): -
- Claire (5/5): -
- john (9/5): -
- Jim (8/5): Location perfect lovely access to the harbour for a boat trip - Location staff views of harbour Vintage comfy

- Fleet (9/5): Devon stay - Excellent location and host, would definitely book again N/A
- Tye (10/5): - Location.
We have stayed a few times. Nothing
- Michelle (8/5): Clean, comfy and great location. - The location was amazing, right on the harbour with brilliant views. It was also very clean. If I’m being really critical the pillows were not the best quality but the price of our stay was such good value, shouldn’t complain.
- Callum (7/5): - Location was perfect staff were great and price was fair
- Rebecca (5/5): Excellent location but very basic - You are paying for the location, which is 10/10. The staff were all brilliant so big shout out to them! The room was very basic and in need of improvements and items replacing (bedside lamps and all bedding). I know the shape of the room cannot be avoided but having no door at the end of a long entry corridor was unnerving.
- Alexandra (8/5): -
- Rachel (4/5): Disappointed - Location amazing Bad service lack of attention no hot water
- Helen (7/5): - Just right for the price ..can't complain..
Host is very accomodating. And good location.
- Marlene (1/5): - Location, nice staff Absolutely filthy room, smelled like smoke. Smell in the bathroom so bad, I got sick every time I entered.
- Simon (10/5): Perfect - The view was brilliant, the staff were brilliant Nothing
- Jaki (10/5): -
- Louise (9/5): superb location and friendly staff - location is exceptional; i loved working in the bay window and watching the tide come in and out. also on waking up, i could hear the water below the window. I can't imagine having such a room at such a reasonable rate anywhere else nothing
- Nichola (10/5): Had a great *Sunny* weekend and will definitely be returning - Staff upgraded us to a bigger room on arrival which was brilliant.
Beds were Comfortable.
Shower was nice and hot
Tea & Coffee facilities are available along with drinking glasses.
The tea/coffee/sugar/milk are replenished daily and if you need extra you can just ask at the bar. Only downside were the stairs to the room. The last staircase was quite narrow but as we had stayed here previously we knew what to expect.
- Nicholas (8/5): -
- Potger (8/5): - View fantastic, staff very friendly, good breakfast Bar prices dearest of trip
- Darren (9/5): Was nice to cross paths with fellow travellers - Got a parking ticket
- Hugh (7/5): -
- Ellie-May (8/5): Great - Practical ,Great location , good for what you pay for , have the basics Very dated could do with improvements

- Alison (4/5): -
- Sanders (10/5): Lovely rooms , staff were friendly too - Lovely rooms
- Jaki (8/5): Very welcoming, great price and nice spot - Location was great Nothing
- REBECCA (7/5): Over all very comfortable - Everyone seemed friendly and help was given very readily with my luggage. I slept very well and the room was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit cramped and getting in and out of the bath a little difficult.
- Joanne (5/5): - location info folder so old and worn out we couldn't read the information
curtains sun faded and dated. pictures on the walls faded and hard to see images.
Period hotel with period features, please dont lose the charm but also move with the times. Covid stickers look like the newest features.
- Anne (9/5): - Room with harbour view
- Robinson (8/5): -
- Louise (8/5): - the location of the britannia harbour hotel is exceptional, right in the centre, on the flat and it pays to have a sea facing room. Wonderful to be able to hear the water as working and then falling asleep I don't eat at the pub, because it is not my type of food; and if there was more vegetarian, I would
- Stuart (10/5): -
- PETER SQUIRE (8/5): lovely location. - Bed was comfortable an nice clean linen and towels. The bedroom carpet was quite badly stained and is in need of a good clean.
- Paul (9/5): Lovely stay - Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Very reasonable price.Near harbour, car park and bars. Would definitely recommend. Everything was just fine
- Ricky (10/5): -
- Robert (2/5): Shit - Run down food was awful was expecting good thing from the big beast burger but wouldn't feed it to my dog cheap crap and 19 pound chips was good though I was wondering why everyone was going on about going KFC because even the locals know the food is shite Food shite
- Rachel (7/5): -
- Laura (8/5): Perfect for a two night stay - Excellent location on the harbour
Big room
Clean Noisy at night- Could hear cars driving past and the street but appreciate it’s an old building so may be limited on what they can do with the windows/double. The window we had was very awkward to open and heavy and we had to be careful we didn’t drop it on our hands.
Could hear other rooms clearly and doors slamming
But what we paid for our stay was very reasonable.
- Niraj (10/5): -
- Timothy (7/5): - Bar closing at 10.30 on a Saturday night as guests was not good especially when the local festival was being held, and non drinkers and their children were allowed to stay and play pool. Poor as i have stayed multiple occasions as never experienced this before
- Cyra-lea (10/5): Amazing - I liked the decor. The bed was comfy and spacious Nothing it was lush
- Susan (4/5): Not ever going back! - The location was excellent. The bed was very wobbly and creaked every time one of us moved, waking the other. One pillow was filthy. Each time someone else used a shower, ours started to leak. Woken by others using water, as pipes seemed to go through the room and it was really loud. Windows single glazed, so v noisy when people outside. The toilet didn't flush properly. 2 people smoking weed in the doorway when we came in at night. Breakfast was poor. We paid for it as an extra when we arrived. No decaf option for tea/coffee. You had to go to a side room and get your bread from a loaf in a plastic bag that other guests had put their hands in. The guy bringing food out was loudly talking about how rubbish the chef was. The alleged full English breakfast was not 'full' at all. I've stayed in many hotels through Booking.com, paying various amounts of money per night, and this is absolutely not their usual standard of accommodation. We have always had a good stay. It wasn't hugely expensive, so we expected fairly basic and would have been fine with that, but being clean and being able to sleep is fundamental...you would think! Very disappointed. Lucky we only booked one night. Not had to give a bad review before, that I can remember, but there were too many things to let this one go.
- Zahran (8/5): I just go for holiday - Location is very good i really enjoyed Furniture is very old. And toilet and shower they need to change.
- Venas (5/5): - Clean, tea and coffee provided. car park fees, step into room dangerous, water scalding.
- Denis (6/5): - Breakfast was value for money .Staff friendly. Room 34 shower room was step up to get in so need to be careful coming out also toilet very close to sink
Anyone with disability or larger dimensions could have problems.
- Jess (7/5): Lovely stay by the sea - Beautiful sea view, and good location. Room could do with updating
- Liz (8/5): -
- Jane (10/5): Perfect - Everything location perfect staff wonderful room beautiful Nothing
