- Joanna (9/5): Perfect wedding location - Staff were very polite, friendly & attentive and always willing to help. For a big old property, Balbirnie is surprisingly warm & seemed well-insulated: considering it was the middle of February, I was never cold.
Great vegetarian options for breakfast.
Location is fab: surrounded by woodland & well-kept gardens. We watched red squirrels while we ate breakfast: pretty special. I didn't sleep particularly well as I found the mattress a bit hard & the pillows a bit thin for my liking.
The bulb in the bedside lamp was very weak: not sure if it was designed like that being an LED or on its way out but it wasn't strong enough to read by.

- Jim (6/5): A great venue, not a great night’s sleep. - Beautiful hotel, good food, and wonderful staff. Sadly, the room this time was not up to standard. Uncomfortable, very noisy, in need of some refurb.
- Ian (8/5): Great 1 night stay. Very comfortable hotel and a lovely dinner then relaxing with drinks fireside - Lovely setting - parkland and golf course. Large, comfortable room. Great bed ! The room was a little bit dimly lit. Two table lamp bulbs were not working. The taps in the bathroom sink (lovely bathroom and shower !) were loose. These are small details but become obvious when everything else is excellent.

- Jack (10/5): - Staff are excellent in every respect of professionalism, presentation, polite and with humour. Food terrific. Location lovely, facilities perfect. Quiet and secluded and surrounding gardens and woodland really nice for dogs. Everything combined gives a lovely atmosphere to the Hotel. Would be useful if room lighting was a bit brighter though the bathroom lighting was excellent.

The grounds of the hotel are great for early morning walks . Bring your golf clubs . Will come back again Loved the old fashioned comfort and the hotel is beautiful . Very comfortable . Ask for a window room

- Jorja Rose (10/5): Wedding guest stay - gorgeous hotel! - Stunning hotel, gorgeous grounds. Loved the older style layout and finishing. Room was very warm even on a chillier June evening. There was a small fan in the room but we did need to open the window.
- Martin (7/5): - Lage ist sehr ruhig und schön! Umgeben von Park und Golfplatz! Zimmer und Bad sehr alt!
Betten ebenfalls alt, sehr weich und durchgebraucht!
Empfehle keine Zimmer in der 3. Etage!
- Leisa (10/5): One night in heaven - A beautiful escape - understated elegance
Lovely reading room
The dining room is wonderful Nothing
- Rob (8/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): -
- William (6/5): - Excellent location
Breakfast was good
Public rooms were fine and comfortable. Room was average
Have to mix with wedding guests.⁰
- Frances (3/5): Very disappointing considering it cost £139 for one night. I’d have expected more from this venue. - Nice setting
Lovely grounds Hardly slept because it was so noisy due to our room being above the kitchen extractor vents. They were on all night.
The dressing table stool had 3 broken legs and would have been dangerous to sit on.
There was no grab rail for getting in and out of the bath and the water kept switching from scalding hot to freezing cold. This was extremely dangerous due to how hot the water temperature was.
The breakfast portions were extremely small especially since it cost £19.50 per person.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Derek (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Spectacular, award winner Georgian country house hotel, with fine dining, set in beauful landscaped grounds - Easy check in, nice spacious third floor room with large bathroom. Friendly welcoming staff. Fine dining in The Orangery with both an excellent dinner and decent breakfast. High bedroom window looking onto roof parapet with treeline beyond. Lots of debris (not just leaves and moss) on roof. Looked like it had not been swept for years. Bath plug didn’t work properly so water was draining as I tried to have a bath.
- William (8/5): Nice hotel but overpriced - I arrived at 1240hrs as I was attending a wedding at 1400hrs, so we requested an early check which we were charged £40 for 1 hour 20 minutes, this seems very excessive a bit like the bar prices very expensive. I also lost a lapel badge in the wedding function room, I did ask staff but nobody was very helpful to try an locate this or even if it had been handed in. Prices
- Geoff (9/5): Superb -
- Debra (10/5): Amazing wedding venue. Beautiful grounds. Attentive and helpful staff - Beautiful house and grounds, friendly staff. There were a few steps that were unavoidable to exit into gardens.
- Nicola (7/5): Good - friendly staff uncomfortable bed
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - No hot water in the evening. Appreciate that it is a listed building but surely a hotel needs a lift to get to the third floor.
- Lisa (10/5): Beautiful hotel and grounds with great staff . - The Hotel and grounds were immaculate it was lovely to walk around as the weather was good. All the staff were friendly and did a great job . Nothing
- Nic (3/5): Would not stay there again - Location Not disabled friendly Doors to rooms very difficult to open lock and unlock anyone who has a disability would struggle as I did when checking out had call reception to come and let me out of the room.
- Caroline (7/5): Super location good food especially breakfast. - Location Nothing
- Marchant (8/5): Very good -
- Louisa (10/5): I was away for work and felt like I was at a retreat beautiful, relaxing and the breakfasts are amazing! - Beautiful location and beautiful hotel
- Chris (10/5): Absolutely beautiful. - What an amazing hotel/venue. I've stayed in many beautiful places over the years but I have to say this beats any without doubt. The hotel, the staff all perfect in every way.
- Tracy (8/5): Very good -
- Megan (7/5): Adequate but a little over-priced for what we received. Receptionist very helpful. - Room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was poor value for the amount charged. We were woken at 6:15 by very noisy outdoor gardening machinery. We had booked a twin room but it was made up as a double and we had a long wait until it was sorted out. Furniture could do with a clean and a few decorating repairs needed, especially in the bathroom.
- Lisa (10/5): The staff were all super friendly and welcoming - The setting is beautiful There is nothing to dislike
- Pauline (10/5): Exquisite - Beautiful old charm and quality. Only having to climb stairs to our room.(3rd floor) Both of us (in our late 70s and recent knee operations, found it a challenge after a day spent sightseeing. But it didn’t take away from the pleasure of staying in such a beautiful place and we do understand that it isn’t possible to always have lifts in such buildings.
- Daniel (9/5): Great hotel and facilities. - Great location and grounds. The hotel is set in amazing grounds with so much character. The staff can’t do enough for you. On arrival the room was really cold but it soon warmed up when I put the radiator on. Can’t fault the service and facilities. Cold room on arrival but nothing major.
- Alan (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (10/5): well worth the visit will be back - The best thing about this location was the seclusion what is just what you want after a long drive and a days work, no unreasonable waiting in service for evening meal or breakfast easy check in and out in the pouring rain the walk back to the hotel from the car park in better weather the walk will be lovely
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alan (7/5): A comfortable 'Old Style' hotel. - A very comfortable large room . A nice location. Breakfast was table service and a very nice relaxing experience. Although very comfortable, the hotel generally is very tired and would benefit from an up grade. When we were there (2 nights) the temperature outside was -3C and the central heating in our room wasn't working. On the 2nd day at 12.50 we told reception about our problem with the heating. Unfortunately, at 6.45pm nothing had been done and it was still freezing in the room. We had to contact reception again and this time the problem was solved within the hour.
- Jean (10/5): Exceptional - Nice clean toilets and polite personnel. Soggy toast. Toast is supposed to be served nice and crispy. It was served lying flat on a plate resulting in soggy toast instead of in a toast rack.
- Jessica (8/5): a lovely venue, great meal, couple of small fixable snags. - beautiful property and grounds. well presented interior. felt like a special venue, above ordinary. meal was great. we felt there was a sick-y smell in the bathroom but it looked clean, it wasn’t till the morning we noticed on the bottom of the drawn curtains there was sick from previous tenants.
the shower only seemed to be hot, I couldn’t work out how to lower the temp.
booking process was a bit tricky. on booking.com it wasn’t clear how to add a pet, so I called and was told this would be fine. we also had a 4 year old with us and booking.com default was to sell us two rooms. called again as didn’t want our daughter to be separate and they said no problem for a portable bed and to just book as a couple on booking.com. could have been clearer.
- David (9/5): Impressive manor hours near Glenrothes - Lovely manor house near Glenrothes. Excellent wedding venue
- Tony (8/5): Reacquainted with this hotel after 30 yrs, still fantastic -
- Ryan (9/5): Great in every way. - Traditional large room, wonderful food and attentive staff Nothing
- Jess (10/5): Fab u lus - Excellent Nothing
- Tina (9/5): We really enjoy our stay. Would recommend - Loved the history, location and size of rooms The lightening in the room was dim.
We didn’t have teaspoons in our room.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Corey (10/5): Thouroghly enjoyable stay, comfy bed and warm room, peaceful location. Freshly cooked and prepared breakfast. - Tranquil setting in the countryside. Traditional old county house that has retained its original features.
Modern dining area and ample parking with grand entrance area
- Irina (8/5): Good location for exploring Fife. Lack of information in the room on facilities available in hotel. - Location!
Electric car parking with charging units
Woodlands walks
Friendly staff Room service ( limited menu options)
- John (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Pleasant - Location The car park
The terrible iron and iron board both need replaced
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iain (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (6/5): Disappointed with the room tbh expected more - Lovely grounds and staff attentive No toilet roll holder in room, sockets away from dressing table mirror and no full length mirror
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - Got married yesterday and stayed here overnight..... absolutely excellent hotel
- Brian (10/5): Great location, great staff and exactly what I was looking for. -
- John (10/5): The staff were amazing - Fantastic rooms great food
The staff made it one of the best hotels i have stayed in Only issue i had was had to pay for parking in site
- Penny (7/5): We were travelling for a funeral so this was perfectly acceptable for our purposes. - Lovely building, public areas and garden. Room was nice and quiet, and beds were very comfortable. Price for breakfast is excessive - perhaps a more basic option could be made available for people who really just want a bowl of cereal. Also, not having a normal kettle in the room was a pain - made it very difficult to fill hot water bottles and then flasks which we needed for travelling for a funeral the following day. Hooks would be useful.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Caryl (9/5): Beautiful setting and lovely spacious rooms. -
- David (8/5): Very good - It's a beautiful building, set in amongst lovely grounds. Had dinner which was good, I'm lactose intolerant and was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any dairy free mains, my dish had to be adapted, it would be great to just ask for a proper dish, specifically made with no dairy. Only dessert on offer was Sorbie, again disappointed, there are loads of really good dairy free sweets out there!
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent staff. All of them are polite, friendly and helpful. Nothing. The venue is first rate.
- Jenni (8/5): Very good -
- Barry (7/5): Good - Friendly staff Paying £20 for parking for a rural hotel. If you are staying at the hotel this should be free.
- Young (10/5): Exceptional - They loved dogs some had siblings to my lhasa apso
- James (10/5): Great place to stay, i will be back - This is a great place to stay, they have loads of EV charging onsite, the rooms are great and the food was brilliant. the staff were great too
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lorraine (7/5): Lovely hotel, nice rooms, comfortable stay. Staff were friendly but not always the most helpful. - Property was clean, building and grounds were lovely and well kept No cash taken, charge for parking, everything including dinner seemed to require advance notice.
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- John (4/5): Disappointing -
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
