Guest Reviews
- Douglas (3/5): Disappointed. - Staff very friendly. Managers very rude Dirty rooms and matrices filthy. Management tried to charge for extra cleaning of bedding. They actively look to charge different groups for damage which was clearly already present. Take photos when you arrive to avoid this scam
- Anne (9/5): Superb - Lovely boat, great food, comfortable beds, nice staff. Amazing scenery Moved onto different boat the Erina, so review is for this.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carolyn (7/5): Lovely staff. But way too hot in the restaurant. - Great rooms. Smaller boat, less people made the trip more personal. Restaurant was so hot. Air conditioner not working. In the middle of summer that was not bearable.
Dinner wasn’t good. Small meals left us all hungry.
- David (1/5): Bad - The staff are lovely and doing their best. 1). We booked an all inclusive package which we paid extra for and not full board, when we got on board we were told we had to pay or they won't let you on the boat back to the port (Blackmail) The company miss sells to get booking and is not to be trusted.
2). The toilet leaked into the shower every time you flushed the toilet. This room should not be given to guests until this is fixed. This is unsanitary and unsafe.
3). Cups and mugs were dirty and not washed.
4). Beds are dirty and unclean, we have photo evidence, and your company then charges for cleaning and again threatens not to let you off the boat if you don't pay.
Very unprofessional and frankly disgraceful.
5). The fridges in the rooms don't work, and the safes are not fixed, so they can be picked up and walked away with.
6). The WIFI is intermittent at best and not worth connecting to.
7). There are a lot of identical fake reviews pushing them up the rankings. We unfortunately didn't realize this until we we on board.
- David (2/5): It was a old shit rusty boat - The staff Not worth the money I paid
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Very good experience. The boat is lovely and rooms are as we expected. Food was wonderful. I have food allergies and they were very gracious with accommodating my needs and making sure everything was to my liking. Staff is on point. No complaints!
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional - The cruise, food, staff were exellent
- Zara (8/5): Very good - Our host Henry was wonderful and communicated well, despite us often being the only English speakers on the boat.
Halong bay is a beautiful place! Last minute we were moved to a different cruise, so actually was on the Blue Diamond.
The food was mixed, some excellent, some a bit average. The room and balcony was small, smaller than our original cruise booking. On our second night there was a larger noisy group, that we couldn't avoid being disrupted by, as the boat was small.
We also hadn't realised from the advertisement for the second day activities we would be on a different day boat, with different staff.
- Bailey (10/5): Exceptional - So happy I chose Lotus. The whole experience felt both top class and approachable. We did the 2 nights 3 days. Could have easily done 3! Loved the boat’s style, very comfortable, clean and easy to navigate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was great. I had two childen with me and the team (especially our man of the hour Han!) were more than happy to cater to their individual needs. Loved it all, especially the tai chi and happy hours with a view!
- Jeshua (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jamaisa (5/5): We booked a family room with a balcony on Lotus Cruise but were informed just a day before that we were moved to Blue Di -
- Lars (1/5): Bad - Don't book with this company! Got a whatsapp at 22:00 on the day before the cruise that they cancelled the cruise. They offered an alternative cruise but I had to pay 1.500.000 VND extra. Had no choice but to accept. They said that they would consider to reimburse the 1.500.000 VND but now they ignore me. So I would advise not to book here
- Amanda (7/5): Mostly good experience but was overpriced and underwhelming overall - The hospitality and the overall atmosphere was lovely The food for ‘westerners’ was set menu at dinner, where as the Indian people were given a buffet. The set menu was awful tasting. That was so wrong to me, I do t get why the difference?
- Yelena (6/5): Not bad, but now what we have expected - Halong is beautiful as always.
Transportation arrangements worked well- we hired a private transfer both ways. The food was OK, but only during the first day. I have booked 2 rooms at the Lotus Boutique Cruise for 14-15 April, and at late evening - 9.30 pm on 13 April, I was informed that the Lotus Boutique Cruise was cancelled because 15 passengers could not get a visa. I was offered a Lily cruise instead. Should I have been informed earlier, I would have found another tour, but 10 pm was too late, and we were only available during 14-15 April, so we had to accept. Lily is a 3-star cruise, and the difference between Lotus Boutique (at least what I see on pictures) and Lily cruise is huge. I was only able to negotiate about USD30 discount ( total for both rooms). We were allocated VIP rooms, which are not bad, but there is no balcony, and the overall quality of Lily Cruise can not be compared with Lily Cruise.
- Tania (10/5): Highly recommend an amazing experience. - The food was amazing and staff were so friendly and helpful. Overall experience was amazing. No fridge in the room.
- Danny (8/5): Great cruise - The crew were fabulous.
Lots to do, amazing scenery, wonderful location. From the exterior, the boat itself looked pretty tired, but it was fine once aboard
- Douglas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alissa (8/5): The two boats (Venus was the name of the second boat which was amazing). However I thought I had booked a Lotus Cruise w - Lotus Cruise are a booking agent and not a boat. We booked a three night cruise thinking it was a boat, but we were put on a one night cruise and then had to go back to the dock, to then board another boat for the remaining two nights. The boats were great, however Lotus cruise agent called on our way to the boat to let us know we were to go on two boats. This meant we waisted a day needing to go back to the docks to reload into the second boat. It all worked out but felt very last minute and unorganised.
- Nel (1/5): Bad - There was a lack of communication regarding the departure of this cruise, there were not enough guests - nobody told us that we were going to be transferred to another cruise, after much confusion we found out on the morning of check-in. So instead of Lotus Boutique we were given a double room on the La Casta Cruise. The La CAsta Cruise was fantastic - after all the initial hick-ups we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
- Riaan (1/5): SCAM, I would not book with them again - 100 % Scam, we booked one of their nicest rooms and was supposed to be the highlight of our trip, on the morning of us arriving we were informed the boats engines broke and we were put on 2 different cruises, had to disembark after the first night and re board another ship the next day, on searching other reviews we found a lot off people complaining that they have been scammed with the same excuses, do a proper search, maybe even use google as a reference as you will be greatly disappointed
- Mary (8/5): Lovely time and the food was amazing, the staff were friendly - All inclusive does not include any drinks - o would not have booked if I knew this as the drinks were so expensive and I hadn’t budgeted for that
- Charlie (10/5): Exceptional - Great room. Very spacious. Excellent food. Helpful staff
- Kathy (8/5): Very good - Pleasant atmosphere and well organized. Set menu dinner. Would prefer to have options to select from. Wifi was hit and miss but not a dealbreaker as it’s good to get away except there was a few problems I needed to deal with. Drinks a bit pricey.
- Pixie (9/5): Fantastic! - Everything! The rooms were very comfortable, spacious and with a great balcony to take in the views of Halong Bay. Great food and service from all staff The timing of the off boat cave trip should not be the same time as sunrise, as many guests were taking pictures from the top deck and missed the transfer boat (including ourselves). This was disappointing for us all, and we could have had another hour’s sleep instead of waiting around for the trip to return. There should be a last 2 minute warning that it is about to depart so that those guests on the top deck could make it down in time.
- Quiroz (9/5): Beauty and the Beast - View was good. Staff was super friendly. Loved our room. I wanted to go snorkeling, but the water is polluted. Plastic bags, bottles, and hundreds of ships let their food waste go over board. It's not romantic swimming in tomatoes. Chicken bones and onions. That was my only disappointment.
- Jack (5/5): Beautiful scenery but don't count on an all inclusive cruise. - The scenery is obviously amazing. The staff were all friendly and professional. Be warned, some things are not as advertised.
- FULL BOARD is not included. All drinks (including bottled water whilst on the boat except for your first two bottles per room) are charged. Full board is wrongly stated. I wasn't expecting to pay for drinks because the booking clearly states 'full board included'. One glass of wine costs about $12 AUD and bottles range from $60 to $200+ AUD. Cocktails range from $12 to $25 AUD. A glass of orange juice is $9 AUD. On the mainland they're about $2.
- No meals are a la carte. This is wrongly stated.
- There was no wifi the entire time on the boat
Besides this, meals were trying to be fancy but would have preferred bigger portions and traditional viet food. Dinner was like 6 courses but all of them were pretty average.
Some activities like squid fishing and cooking class sounded great but in reality were a little disappointing.
Hawkers can come up to the boat in their noisy dinghys and hassle you to buy their food and drinks.
- Ruby (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (4/5): Many 10/10 reviews here are fake. Read all of the reviews carefully before you part with you cash. - The staff were lovely and made a huge effort to make us welcome and be friendly and professional. Also the room we had was really beautiful and felt very grand. The reason for the low score is outlined below. There are many fake reviews here which are all the same guy giving 10 out of 10. This is a real review and hopefully it will be useful. Some of the issues have been raised by other passengers and they are significant if you choose to book with this company.
We booked this 2 night 3 day cruise months ago. We were traveling from South to North Vietnam on the Reunification Train, and this was a New Years Celebration to achieve us doing that and to see in 2025.
Somewhat like some of the other reviewers - at 7pm the night before we were due to be collected at 8am they canceled the cruise. This was due to engine difficulty. I now believe this to be a lie for reasons I will explain. This was last minute at one of the busiest times for holiday bookings. We were devastated and upset. They then offered us two separate /different boats for each night. After all the traveling we did not want to have to check in and out on two consecutive days.
In the end they offered us another boat. The boat we ended up on was not the one offered. But was adequate from the pictures.
1. These boats do not cruise. Please bear this in mind. We expected to be cruising around Halong Bay. They did not do that. They stayed in one place and passengers were squashed onto tiny little speed boats for hours going around the sights. I would imagine this is to save diesel and about cost cutting.
So rather than sitting enjoying a cruise around Halong Bay - you get up at 6am after being on a large ship for a few hours and spend the rest nof the time on a speedboat. These were cold uncomfortable and extremely cramped. The guide was lovely and they worked very hard for the passengers but these excursions were not what we asked for. We wanted a Cruise in Halong Bay.
2. I do not believe the issue as to why the company suddenly cancelled was engine failure because the ship”cruised” about 300 meters. Therefore they didn’t really need an engine.
- Michael (7/5): Good - The bathroom was really old and needed some renovation. There was a drainage smell. The transfer to and from the boat was really poor. We had to wait for over an hour and were the last to be picked up.
- Imraan (6/5): Pleasant - The rooms were spacious and Bathrooms were clean. There was no wifi at all unless you were in the dining hall. The food was limited.
- Paul (7/5): Ok - The room was nice food was very good Bad communication between staff at times . WiFi not good making karaoke very frustrating. Was not expecting to not cruise it was more like a floating hotel
- Nyinawomuntu (7/5): Good -
- Tahlia (10/5): Highly recommend! The staff were all so lovely! 10/10 - Highly recommend! The staff were all so lovely, the room was beautiful with a super comfy bed, the food was fabulous, and the scenes were amazing!
- Carolyn (7/5): Good - Staff enthusiastic Floor in bedroom not clean. Smell of sewage in bathroom. Unsure what facilities for sewage disposal on board/ into the bay...
- Bukhammas (8/5): Very good -
- Natasha (1/5): Be careful of booking this cruise. - Cancelled on us the night before.
Spoke to another couple who had the same experience. Offered another boat which we were told was an upgrade but photos of the room weren’t anywhere near as nice so we cancelled. Last minute cancellation
- Vang (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Stay was brilliant however too much crammed into one or two nights, but the journey back was laborious , long wait for th - Very good Nothing
- Annie (7/5): Not what we were expecting but made the best of it - The views from the bedroom were incredible and the first meal on board was fantastic. All the staff were lovely and we really enjoyed the kayaking activity. The cocktails were also really well made. We did not get the Lotus Boutique Cruise - just as someone else has mentioned in their review we received a last minute message the night before stating the boat had damage to some windows so would not be running. So we were moved to M’Gloria Cruise. I suspect the real reason was that there were not enough bookings so we were combined on to another cruise which still wasn’t full. M’Gloria Cruise was not to the same standard as what we were expecting and I kept finding long black hairs on and around the bath (I’m blonde).
- Olga (9/5): Superb - The Service team was unbelievably supportive! We were late and they did a great job to deliver us to Cruise Boat. Thank you so much to Anna, she is a real Wonder! Also, all entertainments during cruise were well-arranged. The room facilities should be renovated.
- Jessica (3/5): Poor - Staff lovely Boat doesn’t look like images, different name on the boat, not that clean, room we stayed in had balcony which had pipe with toilet contents going into the sea which we could smell & hear
- Chiara (3/5): Bang average, expected much more for the price. - The room was very clean and comfortable, with a lovely view and staff very approachable and friendly. Organisation was very poor, left waiting around for transfers and never on time. From checking out at 9:30 am we were not on the transfer to Hanoi until 12:15 which we found ridiculous. The food was limited, serving eggs and pastries for breakfast, a very limited buffet for lunch and a set menu for dinner in which communication of allergies / preferences according to food were not complied with at first until multiple requests were made. The trips were average and spent most of the trips kayaking which got boring. For the price of this cruise it was not worth it at all!
- Dmitrij (3/5): Try to avoid. Not worth it at all - A staff member, Anna, was very responsive over WhatsApp. All other staff could do much better for guests. The ship needs total makeover / renovation. The rooms were still fine, but all the common areas are really poor.
Food options are quite poor too. Especially the buffet, which is served for lunch and breakfast. Dinner was half decent. No drinks, even water, are offered at no additional cost. Entertainment options were no fun either.
The bay itself is full of plastic. Of you really need to see it, I'd suggest getting a few hours boat tour and go back to Hanoi.
- Katinka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (10/5): Good value for money. Don’t expect a luxury stay. - Comfortable beds. Great views. The activities were recycled 2 times. Not worth a 3 day cruise. They weren’t attentive to my dietary needs even when I asked for vegetarian in advance, there was no option to buy food seperate to what they catered to.
- Navneeth (7/5): Good - The meals were decent and the room was nice! Very underwhelming activities. Kayaking on both days. Very repetitive. Feels like no thought is put into the activities offered. When I mentioned this to the staff, they got defensive and borderline aggressive. Nevertheless, they were friendly at other times. Overall, didn't feel it was worth the high price.
- Lauren (6/5): Would not recommend. - The views were spectacular. Whilst the views were amazing, this could be achieved with just a day trip. The room we were given, despite requesting a quiet room, was right next to the dining room; we were awoken at 5:45am by club music - we could not have slept in if we wanted to. It was extremely loud and not relaxing at all. The room was dated, quite dirty, the blinds were broken, the bathroom smelled, had broken tiles in the shower and the boat was simply not as it appeared on the listing at all. There was only one rattan chair to sit on the balcony with despite it being a room for two. We had to use the pillows from the bedroom to make it comfortable. We booked an “all inclusive” cruise, but that meant two bottles of water and tea/coffee in the room (therefore using up the bottled water...) for the entire 24 hours. Other drinks were not included even dinner times. The food served of an evening was cold, plus there were flies everywhere. At the end of the cruise the manager said we could use any of the toilets in any of the rooms on the bottom deck of the ship while we waited to disembark, which felt extremely inappropriate. The life jackets that were provided were far too big for anybody and were not fit for purpose. We didn’t visit any nearby towns or villages along the bay. On the evening we were just anchored in a bay surrounded by other ships playing out dated club music whilst nobody danced. The fact there was no entertainment on board was also poor.
Finally, the organisation of transport was terrible, taking an hour to just get out of Ha Long Bay; for example letting a couple get onto the minibus to then turn around d and kick them back off again.
- Reinhard (10/5): Georgeous Landscapes, ambitious operator, great memories! - Huge modern cabins, georgeous Landscapes. Well arranged package by the operator Wifi good for social media, if you need to work it is good on the achor spots but on during moving. Anyhow, this is NOT an issue cause by the operator. For us it worked well!
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Tania (9/5): Superb - The room, the staff were excellent. Food was plentiful. Extremely relaxing. There was nothing to dislike
- Jade (7/5): Not bad - Room was lovely, spacious and clean. Amazing chef who catered so well for vegetarian/vegans, there was so much food we were never hungry. Good price. Ha long Bay itself is very beautiful. Drinks were way overpriced on the boat, they do not have water on the tables you have to buy it.Locals come to the boat and sell cheaper beer but the fridges in the room do not work. The first day we went on a bamboo boat supposed to visit two caves but only visited one. The second day breakfast was at 6am. Very early when you are on holiday. The boat is a bit old and tired but the room itself was great. They served a last brunch meal and put an envelope for tips on the table.
- Javer (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms on the Halong Lotus Boutique Cruise are a true highlight, featuring spacious balconies that offer stunning views of Ha Long Bay. The design combines elegance and comfort, with modern amenities that ensure a relaxing stay. Stepping out onto the private balcony allows guests to fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery, whether enjoying morning coffee or watching the sunset. This perfect blend of luxury and nature makes each room a sanctuary, enhancing the overall experience on the cruise.
- Jessica (8/5): Very good - The rooms on this cruise were gorgeous, a little balcony and huge windows (even in the bathroom lol) so you could see all of ha long bay from your bed which felt very luxurious. Very clean and yum buffet! The activities like making spring rolls and kayaking were fun too
The boat manager Mr Son and our server Alan were amazing The dinner on the evening wasn’t our favourite (it is a set menu so this is bound to happen sometimes!)
- Shireen (7/5): It’s was pleasant ! - Yes Cleanliness
