Merci à Mershack le barman pour son accueil sa gentillesse et sa bonne humeur ! C’est grâce à lui qu’on a passé un excellent séjour !! Je l’ai adoré ! À notre arrivée ils se sont trompés de chambre et de bracelet, ils nous ont mis en All inclusive alors qu’on etait en demi pension.le lendemain matin ils nous ont limite dégager de la chambre sachant qu’on était en basse saison et que un geste commercial pour s’excuser aurait été le bienvenue. On a dû déménager tous nos affaires.Ils sont trop à l’affût de l’argent…des qu’on buvait un verre ils étaient là à vérifier et venez nous demander à chaque fois comment on allais payer…on était pas à l’aise du tout , le restaurant y’en a qu’un qui est ouvert et c’est pas du tout précisé à l’arrivée. Le buffet du restaurant c’est une catastrophe digne d’une cantine.Au moment du Check-out on t’oblige presque à aller sur Booking et mettre que des bons avis……je ne reviendrais pas malgré le charme de l’hôtel .

The beach is nice and the views quiet good if you book a beach cabana Unfortunately it’s run down badly maintained and the management team is of the kind that says always yes but never delivers anything they even sit in the guest area regularly to eat, which is something I have never seen. The chef does a good job but deserts are lot his forte

Special shout out to Ahmed and his team: Mcdonald the restaurant manager looking after us, Meshack who did THE best cocktails and even did a couple of his favourites for us and Bendo who literally had me on a coffee cycle every morning, absolute queen for this. Such a lovely place and beautiful scenery too. Worth doing the All Inclusive for anyone just wanting to chill with no stress of food or drink The location is great for families or for anyone wanting a chill holiday, if youre wanting outside bars or restaurants then probably may be a little challenging. We ate everyday at the hotel and with it being off season, they probably didnt put as much selection on but still had some variety each day

- ToM (7/5): Unfulfilled potential - 1. Room was very big, and felt newly renovated. Also resort common areas were nicely decorated.
2. Most of the stuff were kind, and at evenings they had nice entertainment and a great dance show by the pool. 1. Pool was horrendous - dipping in felt like a pile of oily bleached cloudy water from too much chlorine.
2. Food wasn't good enough - almost nothing was tasty, and morning's coffee was awful.
Out of the 'all-inclusive' plan, we never found any snacks between meals, just beverages.
3. Beach full of seaweed - guess it's seasonal nature and not an hotel issue, but wirdly enough they did rearranged them at every low tide, but chose not to remove them.

- peter (1/5): Beware! Stay Away! There is something very wrong here. - Beware! Stay away! Something is very wrong here. The reviews suggest this is a wonderful place, but it really is not. One of our rooms leaked every time it rained, another had a faulty door lock. In both cases the hotel management dismissed our concerns or failed to resolve the problems. The food was just awful. We all got sick. The beach smelt of sewage and the swimming pool had beetles swimming in it. We left early and we are seeking a refund. If you read this I really urge you to reconsider booking your stay here - there is something fundamentally wrong - it is not a genuine hotel, we have never experienced anything like it.

Im ganzen ist die Anlage sehr ruhig gelegen, wenig Tourismus drum herum.
Es wurde sehr oft gefragt, ob alles in Ordnung ist und sich ggf. Gekümmert, also das war sehr gut. Vom Reinigunspersonal wurden die Lichter immer an gelassen, was nicht so optimal ist. (Mücken kamen)
Im Bad haben wir Harken vermisst für die Handtücher, auch an den Nachttischen fehlten uns kleine Leselichter.
In den öffentlichen Bereichen war das Dach leider undicht, auch in die Bar hat es geregnet.
Aber das soll behoben werden.

We booked here to extend our honeymoon as we got stuck because of the middle Eastern flights being cancelled. What a wonderful place! The team were so incredibly warm and welcoming, even though we were only here for 3 nights they made us feel like royalty! Our upgraded sea view room was beautiful, we had the seafood dinner by the hand woven heart which was SUPERB. However all of the food was very fresh and changed each day. The view of the sea and the pool area were beautiful day and night. The staff particularly Mcdonald and Mussa made such a fuss of us. Thank you again, we will definitely be back.

- Aristide (10/5): - Ma soeur et moi avons passé un magnifique séjour au royal mandarin. Tous le personnel est accueillant, souriant et très attentionné. Le buffet est très bon du petit déjeuné au dîner et varie tous les jours. La chambre très spacieuse, bien équipée et propre.
Mention spéciale pour Ahmed et le staff de la direction qui sont vraiment à l'écoute pour satisfaire nos demandes.
Autre mention spéciale pour les animateurs Abdoul, Moussa et Taham qui mettent une ambiance chaleureuse tout au long de la journée.

- Daniel (9/5): - The staff, they made our stsy memorable. Attentive, polite and courteous. Willing to help with anything we asked for our room, things we wanted to buy, excursions and, transport. The beach (though the tide goes out a long way at times), the sea is warm and the beach is clean.
The view from our room was a lovely panoramic of the coast line. There's a cool breeze that takes the heat off and I didn't see a mosquito and little else during our stay.
The room, a large double (superior with sea view) was comfortable, with bedroom and reception, good Aircon, and surprisingly quiet given it's position close to the centre front was still nice and private.
The all inclusive buffet is good, the service is excellent.
The entertainment was great, lots of fun and different on every night we stayed.
Great value massage packages, and a fun excursion by boat to snorkel on the reefs - Blue Safari.
Special thanks to Ahmed who when we met was an excellent host, and made our last few nights just that little bit more special. The pool isn't particularly special though additional water features are planned in 2026.
More bars and restaurants would be good and I hear again these are going in 2026.
A mini mart that would be useful as a trip by taxi to a local shop is USD$15 return.. However I was able to get some supplies sent in, arranged by a member of staff which worked out better value.
A little bit of tlc in the bathroom we had, just clean up the tile grouting and it would look way better.

- Nasreen (10/5): Tropical oasis, good food and great staff - Super clean, tropical oasis. Very new facilities and exceptional staff. All of our needs were taken care of after a long travel and hard work. Relaxing vibes, great food and the sea side, it was all wonderful. They cater to all palettes, considered special requests for food choices, even made Indian food. It was amazing and the perfect place to stay, truly royal! The general manager Ahmed personally greeted us and other guests, always going above and beyond in making sure there is a smile on your face. There was no request that was a bother and they constantly checked on the comfort and experience, which was beyond exceptional. Don’t hesitate to stay here! Nothing- everything was awesome!

Rien. Juste des propositions d’évolutions pour un resort récent qui devrait se développer :
- possibilité gratuite de mise à disposition d’un local à bagages voire d’une pièce pour se changer en cas de départ tardif, (même si l’hôtel a su s’adapter à notre demande particulière);
-une base aquatique proposant des activités maritime (prêt ou location de matériels (planche à voile, kite-surf, canoé transparent, materiel de snorkeling et de plongée voire peut être l’agence locale d’un club de plongée) ; exploration guidée de la très grande et magnifique plage à marée basse
- un magasin de vrais produits artisanaux valorisant les produits de l’île

Local entertainment team . Room was dirty, marks on the walls, stains on the sheets and hair on the pillows..see pictures
2. Fridge did not work, they only replaced the fridge after 3 days of complaining
3. Phone never worked because the cord was too short to reach the plug
4. Towels were supposed to be white, but had a brownish color
5. They advertise 3 restaurants, there is only 1 main buffet restaurant..if you want all carte, they set up a table in the main restaurant and you get the same food from the buffet brought to your table..there is no seafood restaurant or African restaurant as advertised.
6. There are continuous power cuts, the generator takes a while to start, I was on the treadmill running at 12km/hr and almost flew off 3 times..they dont put up warning signs that you should not use the treadmills because of the abrupt power cuts..I reported to one of the Russian managers who just shrugged it off and was not helpful at all.
7. We requested peace and quiet..we were put into a cave of a room near their renovations, and heard banging from the construction workers the whole week.
8. The wifi in the room was shocking, we called the whole week to get onto Netflix online, it kept disconnecting because of poor signal
9. Usual 5 star resorts on the beach offer some sort of non motorized sports like paddle boats or canoes etc. This hotel charges 20USD for a paddle board for 60mins..this is daylight robbery
10. There are no gowns in the rooms, only slippers
11. Pool towels were almost never available..even at 11am, they tell you that all the towels are at the laundry..surely they should cater for the number of guests that book there
12. This resort is not equipped to handle rain, our room was flooded because of poor drainage, and the floors were so slippery that I, and many other guests, fell..I dislocated my finger and bruised my left shoulder..they also dont have enough umbrellas..

- Ameerah (2/5): The worst hotel experience to date! - This hotel is one of the worst 5 star hotels I have ever stayed at- completely over priced. The pictures on booking.com are deceiving. On arrival at 2:30 am we were placed in a room which was not guest ready. There were no duvets on the bed. There was no information in the room either- I could not call reception. The temperature in the room was extremely cold. The room was mostly completely empty. No luggage racks either. I tried to query with Marlina the manager the next day, on approaching her she was busy fighting with another guest. She was rude and abrasive. She undertook to change the room and said she doesn't know why there was no duvets. The electricity at the hotel comes and goes. On one night we had no electricity all night- it was 33 degrees in the room. The linen is old and scratchy, the sheets are balled. All the linen- pillows and sheets and duvets and towels smell damp. I asked housekeeping to change the linen multiple times. They did- but still the linen all stinks. I had very similar comments and experiences expressed by other guests we met. Everyone I spoke to was extremely disappointed. The other hotel manager, "Ali" proceeded to tell me all about his problems post the electricity issues- all his fridges had blown. Both my phone charges had blown. This hotel made me pay for an extra night because we arrived on the 2nd January at 2:30 am - I paid R11353
( $670 ) for an extra night- the very night we slept with no duvets in a terrible empty ice cold room. This hotel is complete robbery.
- Aicha (10/5): Superb resort with an amazing staff! 100% recommended - What an AMAZING experience!! The whole team has been so great: warm welcome, flexibility, sense of care, laughter, adaptability and I could go on and on! I stayed at the Royal Mandarin for 7 days with my mother and sister, each of us was treated with an outstanding sense of service, Asante Sana! Awesome amenities as well, room with a view on the sea.
Special thanks to Ahmed and McDonald who made us feel privileged from the first to the last minute, I recommend this resort 100% Everything was high standard

When there were construction works happening in our block, we were upgraded to another room which was really nice.
Abdul and his animation team were always up for some fun activities like beach volleyball, African dance, beach soccer,…
We really enjoyed our stay in this little paradise! Electricity goes out a few times during the day (normally just for a few moments), but that’s normal in Zanzibar. Just one whole night we were without electricity which wasn’t nice because of course the AC wasn’t working either.
- Tomasz (5/5): Not a good value for money, good location and 100% european food which should not be the case in ZNZ - Good location and very friendly staff, however the food was 300% European, so you don't feel you are in Africa rather than in a Mercure Hotel in Munich or Ostrava, everything from breakfast till dinner was so European.
Moreover we experienced around 5 electricity cut offs per day so during the cut offs you can't use the toilet, shower and your AC is off. On top of that one client asked the beach boy to play USSR anthem and he gladly did so which was unacceptable for many guests. The best things were personel and location, although far from all attractions. The food should be more diversified and it was the same buffet every single day,

Mancanza di generatori e quindi spesso salta la corrente e l'acqua corrente. Bar e ristorante sulla spiaggia sono chiusi. La spiaggia viene pulita dalle alghe solo molto tardi.
- Maurizio (10/5): Wonderful New Year stay with outstanding hospitality - We stayed at the Royal Mandarin for one week during New Year’s, and our experience was absolutely wonderful. It was a beautiful stay, made special above all by the kindness, availability, and professionalism of the entire staff, who made us feel genuinely welcome and well cared for at all times.
A special mention goes to Mr. Ahmed, the General Manager, who was incredibly attentive to all of our needs, and to Mr. McDonald, whose contagious smile was the perfect way to start every meal in a great mood. Their presence truly made a difference.
New Year’s Eve was a fantastic and memorable night. Everyone, from housekeeping to the bar staff, waiters, chefs, and the entertainment team was extremely attentive and contributed to a lively, well-organized, and enjoyable celebration. The entertainment throughout the stay was good, adding energy and fun.
The food was of great quality, and courtesy was evident in every corner of the hotel. The room offered a beautiful view, and there were plenty of sunbeds at both the beach and the swimming pool, comfortably accommodating even lazy latecomers like us.
We truly felt at ease during our stay and cannot wait to return. Highly recommended with great value for money. Minor points that did not take away from what was a truly enjoyable and relaxing stay.

- Celine (9/5): Would come again! - The location was amazing and almost private beach with minimal hawkers was a big bonus. Facilities were well maintained and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were all very accommodating. Food was excellent and a good variety on offer. The beds were so comfy!!! We didn’t find the place as relaxing as we would like. The animation team would organise loud poolside activities that we found difficult to switch off from whilst trying to relax.
- Amer (5/5): Disappointing and definitely not worth the 5 Star label - The hotel is advertised as a five-star resort, but unfortunately the service and overall experience fall well below that standard. Issues began even before arrival when airport transfers were confirmed and then we were asked to pay for them. Only after escalating the matter were they offered complimentary.
We are a family of five and had been told in advance that an extra bed would be arranged in the second room. Upon arrival, no bed was available, and we were then informed that we would need to pay extra for the fifth person—none of this was communicated beforehand.
Service throughout the stay was disorganized and inconsistent. Complimentary water was very limited, tours required cash payment upfront, and transportation arranged by the hotel was unreliable (the vehicle broke down during our tour). Checkout was also poorly handled, with billing and paperwork not ready.
The food was another major disappointment. The buffet options were very basic and repetitive, lacking variety or quality, and felt more like what you would expect at a rest house or hostel, not a five-star resort charging premium rates.
While the natural surroundings are beautiful, the hotel does not deliver value for money. Overall, the experience felt closer to a three- or at best four-star property. Disappointing.

- Dev (10/5): Wow! Absolutely fabulous!!! - Absolutely fabulous! What an experience! From the moment we stepped out of the taxi to the time we stepped in to leave, the Royal Mandarin Hotel delivered in spades. The welcome, the staff, the accommodation, the facilities and the atmosphere surpassed our expectations. We chose the hotel for the facilities and the promised views and the superior double room with sea view we booked definitely delivered. We were, however, lucky enough to be upgraded to a beach bungalow and that was mind blowing! If you can, definitely go for this. It was large, comfortable and you stepped out on to the sand with a view of the Indian ocean and the sunrise!!! Nothing more needed.
The food (we went for the fully inclusive option) was good. It's difficult to make 'great' food when catering to so many different palates and while there was variety, it was a bit standardised. There were some stand out elements from the always hot, fresh vegetarian dishes (often a secondary option in other hotels) to the freshly baked breads (especially the mahamri), the freshly cut fruit and the variety of desserts. The one other niggle I had was that the a la carte menu was a bit sparse and not appealing enough to want to try.
The staff were superb and very accommodating, with nothing too much trouble. Especially, Marina (who ensured we had all that we needed), Danny (behind the bar) plying us with all the drinks we wanted, Doreen (our 'almost' personal waitress), Siara, who went out of her way to resolve an issue we had with a 3rd party tour, and Zainab and Ketra, at the Spa, who we visited everyday and did a fantastic job! And not to forget, Ahmed, the General Manager, who was always present and connecting with all guests to ensure we were happy with the hotel and its services, and the others (too any to mention individually) who all did their best to meet our needs.
Thank you, all, for making our stay so welcoming and pleasant. We'll do our best to return soon. There's nothing we didn't like. Of course, there's always room for improvement ;-)
Already mentioned is the uninspiring a la carte menu and it's a pity the sea food restaurant was not open as that's what we wanted more of.
It would also be good to have an in-house currency change option and a shop/boutique (which was being remodelled) to buy urgent items and local clothes, curios etc.
