- Boissonnault (10/5): Get the Japanese style room, it’s the coziest! - Yuriko-san is amazing hostess and you owe it to yourself and/or family to spend a good portion of time here. The quietude is priceless. Yuriko-san’s breakfast? Gorgeous. The hostess has a skill for cultivating family. Take some time here, you will be better for it.
- Sidney (9/5): - The owner, Yuriko, picked us up at the train station and dropped us back there the next morning as her place is a bit out of town. She is wonderful. The breakfast was first class.
- Sarah (10/5): - Huge warm welcome, wonderful comfy bed and duvet, after a long flight. Delicious breakfast Everything
- Julie (8/5): - Although the place was a bit remote, Yuriko was very kind and generous. She picked us up and drove us around so we could go where we wanted.

- miduki (9/5): great!
- Joseph (9/5): A great place to experience Mashiko, the pottery village. - The host was very gracious and provided a ride from the train station to the inn and from inn to restaurants and pottery shops. The inn was spacious and well kept. Breakfast was very good and big. There nothing I did not like.
- Louise (8/5): A lovely rural setting - A lovely rural setting on the edge of a forest and amongst orchards. Beautifully hospitable, a delicious breakfast feast and lots of help getting to and from each days activities, good wifi, comfortable bed and bathroom. The location was a bit tricky but made up for by our host's willingness to drive us in and out of town
- Sowmya (10/5): An absolute gem of a place - This honestly felt like a home away from home. This is a super unique Japanese homestay, nestled in the countryside of Mashiko. The house is beautiful and charming, and you feel like you are staying at an aunt’s house. The surrounding areas are beautiful. The sleeping area was so comfortable, futon on tatami mats and the duvet and pillows were clean and crisp and comfortable, I had such a lovely sleep. The breakfast is a breakfast of champs - so healthy, delicious and nourishing and it kept me full for ages. But the thing that made this so special was the host - Yuriko is a fantastic host, she was so kind and caring and I honestly felt like I’d known her for years. I only spent one night at the property but the minute I got there, I wished I could stay for longer! Lifts to and from town were kindly offered, Yuriko even took me to the supermarket to buy snacks and a bentobox for dinner which was an experience in itself! She was so kind and showed me the museums and Indigo dyeing house on my last day. The outside bathtub was such a treat as well. As a solo traveller, being with her in her home made me feel so comforted. Thank you for my ceramic cup, I will cherish it forever and always remember the beautiful house and the even more beautiful company. I hope to be back one day soon, maybe in time for the Mashiko pottery fair.
- Liz (9/5): I would have preferred a simpler breakfast or no breakfast. It was too much food for me. - Nice and quiet place. it was too far from town. The host was very friendly and dropped off and picked up.
- SIYUAN (10/5): - A home away from home, Yuriko went extra miles to make guests comfortable, we are like an old friend of hers and not a guest. I stayed there for five nights and felt so sad when I had to leave, would definitely come back some day!
- yuki (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Our first visit to Mashiko exceeded our expectations made all the better by Yuriko, our host. - Yuriko was a fantastic host, making a delicious breakfast and acting as both a guide to the potteries and a giving us lifts in and out of town.
- Denise (10/5): Hostess Yuriko drive us places and picked us up including giving us a ride to train station the breakfast was delicious - Peaceful Hostess very helpful She gave a gift of piece of pottery her family made It would have cost more to hire taxi to go into town but Yuriko insisted to drive us It was nice to be in the quiet area.
- Eilis (7/5): Nice rural B & B - The host is very kind and helpful. The (Japanese) breakfast was good, including the coffee. The host went out of her way to collect me, give advice, and deposit me where I wanted to go to enjoy a visit to Mashiko and the Shoji Hamada Museum etc. It’s a rambling artisan house, full of pottery etc and with a lovely garden. Communication was difficult as the host has very little English (although we did our best with Google Translate) and there was nothing to do in the evening, as it is very rural. You must be prepared to ignore the dust and spiders!
- Jessica (10/5): Wonderful stay in a traditional countryside home. - A beautiful traditional home filled with lovely ceramics. The home cooked breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed our mornings overlooking the garden. When we arrived Yuriko kindly collected us from the station and ran us a hot bath in the outside Onsen. Ooka Kanehisa was very kind and took us to visit his friends pottery studio and to the sake brewery, indigo dye house and museum. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again! It was a little far from town so we did rely on getting a lift as we didn’t have a car, but the owners were very helpful and happy to collect us and drop us back each day.
- Amira (9/5): Yuriko was a wonderful host! -
- Aya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Crystal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (9/5): Superb - I really enjoyed my stay here at Mori no Garden! It was a quaint and welcoming stay! The room was nice and cozy. The host and her family were lovely and great hosts, making my visit to Mashiko seamless! The host provided well balanced meals. Breakfast kept me full throughout the day. She helped me navigate my way around town. It was nice talking with her and her family. Lol one night the host and her son even taught me how to write in Kanji! (Lol I struggled, but I was taught well! 😂)
I would deff love to stay here again if I ever return to Mashiko! During the winter, common areas can be a little chilly when the fireplace isn't going, so just make sure to dress warm and you will be fine.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Delicious breakfast, host was very nice, and shuttle to and from town.
- Cindy (9/5): Superb - The guesthouse host was super lovely. My room was comfortable. The meals were varied and delicious; they were the most authentically home-cooked Japanese food I've ever had. It felt like I was staying at my favorite aunt's house. The location is not walkable to Mashiko, but the host is very accommodating in driving guests to town and other sites and back to the house. A wonderful trip away from the big cities!
- Kaleb (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cindy (9/5): Like staying at your favorite aunt’s house! - Yuriko, the guesthouse host, is a complete gem! Even though we didn’t speak each other’s languages, we were able to communicate and laugh through Google Translate. Her home-cooked dinners were delicious. They were authentic Japanese dishes, not the typical ramen or sushi that you get in the States. This is not a generic, sterile hotel experience. It’s like living at your favorite aunt’s house in the countryside! I wish I could have walked to the center of Mashiko, but it wasn’t a problem. Yuriko pick up and dropped off whenever I needed.
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful stay host was so kind picking us up and taking us to local museum.Breakfast was large and delicious.Great night's sleep on really comfortable beds or you can choose a traditional Japanese guest room.We had a few sleepless nights in Tokyo so didn't try.Mashiko is a perfect location for pottery enthusiasts. There was so much to see.
- Naama (10/5): Exceptional - Homey place with such a nice host that did all she could do to make us feel comfortable. Huge tasty breakfast, relaxing tatami room, and quite green surroundings. Great place!
- Kymberley (10/5): Exceptional - It had a homely vibe.
- Evgeny (9/5): Superb - A nice quiet place for relaxation in a country side, comfortable futons, convenient and clean facilities, very welcoming host. Very good breakfast served using the lovely cups and plates from local potteries, The only missing in this house is a cat :) Or maybe we simply didn't meet.
- Mami (8/5): Very good -
- Cecilia (9/5): Superb - Wonderful stay with lovely host family. Yuriko and her husband were very kind to us and we had a great conversation about life and pottery with the help of Google Translate. Yuriko provided a delicious and hearty home-cooked breakfast and dinner (dinner was arranged in advance, for a very reasonable extra fee), and was able to accommodate our request for vegetarian meals. She also picked us up and dropped us off in Mashiko town and offered to take us to more out-of-the-way pottery shops. The large detached bath house was very relaxing after a day of walking, and everyone in our group slept comfortably in the rooms.
- Elisabeth (10/5): The unparalleled hospitality in a beautiful setting. - Morino Garden is a hidden gem. We stayed in one of the tatami rooms and enjoyed the comfort. The room has a sink, fridge, and microwave, and the shared toilet is barely a step away. (Shower is downstairs, still quite convenient.) But the real charm of Morino Garden is the host. Yuriko went above and beyond for us, offering rides, luggage storage, and even a meal we hadn’t booked. We felt as if we’d been welcomed into a home—as, indeed, we had. Nothing, really, I noted the ways it differs from a standard hotel room in the pervious comment, but that just made it more special for us.
- Louis (9/5): Lovely stay, very relaxing. - It was very nice to stay at this b&b. Beautiful countryside location, and you can use an ebike. The surrounding roads are a bit busy though, so be careful. The lady who runs the b&b is super friendly, and the breakfast is great. Thank you very much!
- Mitchell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (10/5): Yuriko is the sweetest and most accommodating host. She picked me up from the station and was very helpful and understan - Yurikos place is a beautiful older Japanese style house. Very cozy and homily, the perfect setting for a few days away in the country. The room was very clean and the bedding was good quality and kept me warm throughout the night. The heater also worked a treat which was lucky because the weather got very cold during my time in Mashiko. Nothing, I really enjoyed my stay
- Tim (10/5): If you like pottery go to Mashiko! - The breakfast was amazing. Coffee was good! The location was pastoral and it is great that bikes are available to use. Our host was exceptional; an excellent tour guide and offered a ride to and from the bus station. Beds were super comfortable and the Japanese bath was fun to try. It is out of town but the host and the bikes make up for that
- Phuong (10/5): Wonderful, peaceful stay! - We really enjoyed our stay at this cozy house and Takae and Yuriko were extremely kind hosts, welcoming us with some tea and snacks to their beautiful pension. They also offered to show us around in town a bit.
The room and bathrooms were very clean and we especially appreciated the fireplace and wooden bathtub for a cold winter day.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (10/5): Wonderful place and kind, lovely host. - Beautiful property with very comfortable beds, great hot bath, fantastic breakfasts. Most of all, our host Yuriko was wonderful, really helpful, kind and friendly. Our favourite stay in Japan.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Mashiko is frequently done as a day trip from Tokyo, but I found spending a few days was more rewarding. Honestly, as a tourist, I'm not a big fan of Tokyo anyway.
Mori-no Gardens provides a comfortable stay in a country house just outside the small town of Mashiko. Within walking distance; however, the proprietess, Yuriko, will also transfer you by car in the morning and afternoon. A wonderful town to walk around in and explore (pottery and antique shops, rice fields, temples, sake)-- do not miss the Hamada museum.
I am vegetarian and I highly recommend her Japanese home style cooking, a delicious variety of offerings you probably will not find in restaurants. One of my best and inspiring experiences in Japan this trip, so grateful. Please arrange a meal plan when you book, as you cannot simply show up and ask for dinner-- that is not possible.
I look forward to returning, a marvelous time.
- Jasmine (10/5): Exceptional - Yuriko was a warm and very hospitable host. She made sure we were very comfortable and was a fabulous cook, I really enjoyed our breakfasts and our morning conversations. The bnb is very homely with lots of wood and big expansive windows that show off the big green garden. We also loved the wooden bath, it was a great way to unwind after a long day exploring Mashiko. The bnb is tucked away so you may find it a bit hard to find if you travel by car, but the benefit of this is that it’s incredibly quiet in the evening! We loved our stay and was certainly a highlight of our 4 week holiday.
- Felicity (8/5): Very good -
- Kathy (7/5): A comfortable homestay style place, friendly host in Yuriko - lovely rural location with easy access to Motegi and Moko. Great to hear the sounds of nature after the sounds of the city. Lovely breakfast included, and great freshly made coffee. Thank you
- Maira (10/5): Exceptional - Yuriko is an exceptional host and connection into Mashiko community. Endlessly generous and gave us so much more than just a beautiful location and facilities - will definitely visit and stay again if I get the chance.
- Tansy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yaffa (9/5): Yuriko, the lady who runs the place is super nice ,the house and its surrounding is beautiful and we - Breakfast was very good. The location is in the calm nature not far from Mashiko town It could be good if there were a cattle and some tee and coffee in the room
- Ellie (10/5): the host was extremely helpful and generous and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. the breakfast was delicious! - quiet and beautiful
- Craig (10/5): A homely, real Japan experience. - Lovely rural, traditional accommodation, with private Onsen. Hosts were very generous with their hospitality, wanted us to see the best of the area. A wonderful place to stay. nothing
- Albert (8/5): A delightful Japanese experience supported by mama san - Hostess went out of her way to help Bathroom was chilly
