• Arashdeep (10/5): - The property is well equipped to spend entire time at the resort The rooms are dated for a shangrila. The furniture and fittings dont reflect today's modern finishing which you can get at similar pricing. Paying for the name and facilities.
• MARK (9/5): Great hotel, great staff and very nice stay. - Excellent property and overall very nice facilities. Golf course onsite and nice food including Sri Lankan dishes. The location has very little close by.

• Megan (7/5): Beautiful setting - The setting was beautiful, and there were lots of activities for the children. Nice staff. The hotel is so close to being exceptional. There were unfortunately numerous small issues that mounted up. We booked half board but they didn’t have much variety at the dinner buffet, we asked to refund dinner which was refused. We subsequently had to eat out at other restaurants where the service was slow. Our room was not cleaned until requested, they offered to clean at 9.30pm when my children were sleeping. We also had an issue as they overcharged us for an offsite activity. They did not have our breakfast ready in the morning, as promised meaning we were late, they then offered credit which was subsequently forgotten about. We kept being asked to pay when we wanted to use room credit.

• Azizyan (9/5): Great stay and birthday celebration - Spent few amazing days at the Shangri-la Hambantota for my birthday in may. Everything was perfect, amazing helpful staff. Lots of activities to do. Quite and clean infinity pool. The spa is beautiful. We tried couple of massages. The Ayurvedic oart of the spa is better. Me and my husband enjoyed our stay there. Not a lot of people as it was beginning of the off-season that made our stay even better )) Food was not to impressing and not a lot of choice at the restaurants. They can do better. The classic massage was not what we were expecting. Unfortunately the staff was not really professionally trained. Also we had a bit difficulty as not every staff was good in English

• Ashen (10/5): Unforgettable 4-Day Stay with Exceptional Hospitality and Beautiful Memories!!! - We had one of the most beautiful and memorable stays at Shangri la Hambantota during our 4 day vacation and birthday celebration. From the very beginning, everything was handled perfectly and professionally, making the booking process smooth and stress free. A very special thank you to Ms. Tharindi for helping me throughout the booking and arrangements. She went above and beyond to make our stay extra special, including arranging a beautiful birthday bed setup with lovely sweet goodies waiting in the room. We were also lucky enough to receive a room upgrade thanks to her generosity and kindness. The entire hotel experience was exceptional. The rooms were spacious, luxurious, and extremely comfortable. The food was absolutely amazing throughout our stay always fresh, delicious, and with plenty of variety. Special thanks to Chef Rathanayake for making us feel at home every time we visited the buffet. His hospitality truly stood out. Also, thank you to Mr. Kapila for always arranging our table beautifully and taking care of us so warmly during our meals. Both the pool area was massive and beautiful, with direct beach access which created such a relaxing atmosphere. Even though swimming in the sea is not recommended, the view and surroundings were stunning. There were so many activities to enjoy including the golf courts, spa, zipline, flying trapeze, and the evening bike ride which became one of our favorite memories from the trip. A very special thank you to Mr. Priyadarshana for arranging and guiding the sunset bike ride so carefully. He made the experience so enjoyable and even helped us do a small sunset pre shoot during the ride, which turned out amazing. Anyone visiting Shangri la Hambantota should definitely try the sunset bike ride it’s peaceful, fun, and truly unforgettable. Overall, every single staff member treated us with genuine care and hospitality, making us feel welcomed throughout the entire stay. Honestly, there was very little to dislike during our stay. If I had to mention one small thing, it would be that swimming at the beach area is restricted due to sea conditions, but the beautiful ocean view, pool area, and all the other activities more than made up for it. Overall, everything from the hospitality to the food and experiences exceeded our expectations.
• Sidharth (10/5): - The property is very beautiful with great landscape. It surely creates a one of a lifetime experience. Staff is very courteous, food is good, property is very clean. We really liked our stay. Special touch by the staff makes it even more memorable. Shout out to Kapila and his team for attending to us so nicely. Couldn’t have asked for more.

• Shuzan (10/5): It’s rare that a property lives up to years of anticipation, but this place is the exception. From the unique architectu - Everything! This property is unique, clean and exceptional. I had been dreaming about visiting this place for many years and I was not let down. The staff are so acutely attentive, the food was fantastic, and the golf experience was phenomenal. There is one small improvements I would suggest such as : - a Spa Menu & Golf Course Guide/Magazine in the room . Asides from that, I have nothing to complain about!

• Aamna (10/5): The perfect night away. - Staff was very friendly. The pool was amazing, well kept and the surroundings were beautiful, the ambience was great as well. The buffet area was also lovely. The elevators were not air conditioned and there was a smell.

Мы реально в шоке насколько здесь люди стараются и искренне хотят чтобы ваш отдых прошел комфортно. Отдельное спасибо сотруднику кафе (к сожалению не запомнила его имя), своей улыбкой и добрым отношением делал каждый завтрак и ужин невероятно приятным. А также менеджеру Tharindi за внимательность к деталям, сопровождение на каждом этапе и быстрое решение вопросов ☺️
• Vladimir (10/5): Modern comfort in the middle of Sri Lanka wildlife - Modern, well secured rooms with next to zero exposure to lizards/insects (we did manage to get one tiny gecko in one of our rooms). Good selection of food across venues and beautiful ocean views. Outside - really enjoyed observing monkeys, massive lizards, mongoose and other animals, which is part of a great offer overall. Golf courses right next, although not really my theme. Not seen other hotels in the area, but it is a great base for parks/safari visits. We did get a gecko in the room, which was important for some of us. Otherwise - all good.

• Bhavin (1/5): Think twice before u book - Check-in was a very big job for staff...wasted so much of time. Booked through booking.com where it was clearly stated about discount for activities....but at resort staff was unaware so we have to call manager and the problem was solved. Booked Yala safari through resort....staff carelessly sent us to different safari park on behalf of some other guests and then everything was mess up there....problem was not solved and we have to come back without doing that activity. WILL NEVER STAY THERE. NOT ENJOYED ANYTHING..RUINED OUR VACATION. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BOOK

• NICKI (10/5): Simply stunning resort - Stunning resort in a beautiful and relaxing setting. The staff were super attentive and very helpful (thank you Tharinda). There were lots of activities organised and as a family of 5 we had an amazing time.

Golf mit tolle - Eine große schöne Poolanlage insbesondere für die Kinder mit rutschen! Hotelanlage ist direkt am tollen Golfkurs! Dem oberen Management fehlt das Fingerspitzengefühl für ein Hotel dieser Klasse und dem Anspruch der Shanghri La Gruppe. Es gab erhebliche Schwierigkeiten eine direkte Buchung für meine Familie zu erzielen. Vor Ort war ich am Ende gezwungen die Buchung über booking zu vollziehen um die Zimmer-Kategorie zu erhalten die ich mit meiner Familie benötige.

• Nadeesha (9/5): We enjoyed a lot. - We enjoyed the pool facilities and water play area very much. My son had a wonderful time at the hotel. He had various attractions starting from water play, beach, model village and kids indoor games. It was equally relaxing and enjoyable for adults. We had leisurely talks at beach chairs / beach benches and hanging chairs. There were lot of exquisite designed places and easthetic eye catches that is suitable photo shoot backgrounds. I should specially thank the staff for their friendly hospitality and exceptional help provided. There were no delays and the buffet experience was also unique and authentic. We would like to thank Chef Rathnayake, Mr. Kapila and Mr. Kanishka for the support they gave at the restaurent. All together it was a memorable happy time with my family and I strongly recommend Shangri-la Hambantota for a leisurely family meet-up. None

• Daniel (8/5): Nice Hotel, great staff, great value gor the money. - Preis/Leistung ist sehr gut. Essen ist sehr gut. Personal ist sehr gut. Golfkurs ist sehr gut. Hier und da etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Zb. Abgesplitterte Holzbohlen am Pool. Sehr auf Familien ausgerichtet (laut).

Ухоженная, красивая и большая территория. обезьяны встречают при выходе из номера, павлины, зайцы, веселые птички - настоящая природа. Именно за этим мы приехали в Шри-Ланку. Супер океан. Величественный, вот такой какой и должен быть! Утром вы одни на пляже, это не передаваемое ощущение. Все что касается природы - просто супер!!! И не могу не заметить отличное обслуживание: помощница Tharindi, с любым вопросом можно смело обращаться, обязательно помогут! Из ресторанов могу посоветовать, тот который выходит на гольф поле. Не помню название. Быстрое обслуживание и очень вкусно! Цены нормальные. Есть пару нюансов. Я не считаю это не достатком. Но лучше об этом знать! Если вы любите купаться в спокойном океане, то вам точно не сюда! Здесь божественные волны! Поплавать можно, но не всегда получится! Уединенное расположение, рядом ничего нет. Нужно ехать. Но это и плюс. У нас была машина, поэтому никаких проблем - захотел уехал. Парковка подземная, машину подгоняют ко входу.
• Aleksandra (10/5): Lovely Relaxing Stay - The territory and rooms are wonderful! My little one truly enjoyed watching squirrels, birds, peacocks in the morning. Pool was great. Splash Park and slides are a bonus. Mostly we appreciated the staff. Everyone is kind and put a lot of love in what they do! Special thanks to Tharindi , Nalinda and Samanhi We really enjoyed our stay! If I could add something I’d probably offer some kids facility for older children; offer a little bit more variety of international cuisine
• Lewis (10/5): 10/10, an outstanding two nights which we will always remember - The staff were absolutely excellent across every aspect of the hotel, they ensured our stay was as perfect as it was and made every effort to ensure that we had everything we needed during our time at the hotel. We would like to specifically mention Insaf who was brilliant from the moment we stepped into the hotel. His attention to detail during our stay was exceptional and he is a true asset to the hotel. The property had everything we needed. Whilst our stay was only for two nights, we made the most of the golf and the spa which will be stand out moments of our whole trip. Being able to easily move from relaxation, to enjoying an experience, at our own pace, supported by the wonderful staff made the hotel one that we will be recommending to anybody we know travelling to Sri Lanka
• Justin (6/5): Could do much better for a supposed 5-star hotel. - The staff were great and very friendly. The Chinese restaurant was very good, albeit relatively expensive. Paying extra for a Premium Ocean view room was not worth it; our view of the sea was distant and obscured by a trapeze while the view of the lower category room in which our children stayed was much better, despite being a garden view. We were offered a change of room at first, but it wouldn't have meaningfully changed the aspect. Only later in the stay were we offered a room where the view would have been better, but by then it was too late. The policy of charging a 14-year old as a full adult for the buffet wasn't appreciated; in fact they initially wanted to charge our 12-year old as an adult too and it took some persuasion to stop them doing so. So too, we were supposed to have a 15% discount on buffet dining applied, but this was "forgotten" on two occasions, as was the 10% spa discount we should have received and it took us spotting this for it to be rectified. We had 3 or 4 days where used and dirty glasses were left in the room and the overall cleaning wasn't great. If the hotel is full, there won't be enough sun umbrellas by the main pool.

Das ganze Personal sehr herzlich und fürsorglich. Lekha vom Front Office hat uns von Anfang bis Schluss wunderbar um uns gekümmert. Kommen hoffentlich bald wieder. -

• Nichola (10/5): Good Filter Coffee - great service - They made every effort to help us when we had a problem with the noisy people and smokers next door. They helped us with a terrible massage experience. Immaculately clean, great food, good coffee :-) ,comfortable beds, high quality bed linen, powerful showers, beautiful view. The staff on the restaurant and the chefs were amazing - a real credit to the Shang ri La brand. Incredible gym - free weights, racks, cardio machines, fixed weights. The person who cleaned our room for the week was amazing - attention to detail. They were lovely to our driver . Toiletries were not the usual Shang ri La experience. Smokers on the balcony of non-smoking rooms. People playing music out loud on the balcony. The only other thing was, it was very hard to know what was going on as it was not on the TV and they sent large PDFs with information which was hard to view on a phone. Nowhere to dry my towels as no towel heater so had to keep changing the towels. The spa - we have been in Sri Lanka for 3 weeks and had amazing massages as Radisson, Hilton, EKHOetc. I was left with bruises and damaged skin. It was painful and I had to ask the lady to stop. There was renovations going on and to cover the banging and drilling the lady kept turning on the hissing steam machine and humming! We complained immediately but they still initially wanted to charge us. It was not initially dealt with well. Nor was another massage with a different therapist offered. They did refund in the end .

It was enjoyable to unwind on the golf course i - We came to the resort to have a couple of days relaxation and play golf. The facilities were good. Pool area was excellent breakfast facilities also very good. Golf course in good condition most golf ⛳️ holes Unfortunately for me, I only speak English. A lot of the staff have a very poor understanding of English.

Employees nice people but I think sometimes understaffed in the restaurants. Furthermore, the receptionen messed up the invoice and I had to come down to the reception the day before I was checking out and had several inconvenient talks during the day about the bill. Again friendly personal but ignoring treatment.

• Manal (10/5): Beautiful resort, relaxing with friendly staff. - An oasis in the middle of no where just to relax and get peace and quiet. Be prepared to stay at resort because nothing around you. That said, the resort is lovely.

• Dominik (7/5): Sehr schön aber zu teuer - Wir sind zu viert mit zwei kleinen Kindern angereist und der Empfang als auch die Anlage sind sehr beeindruckend. Die Ausstattung ist an sich klasse und die gesamte Anlage sehr schön. Die Auswahl beim Essen ist riesig als auch sehr hochwertig. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Jetzt gilt es etwas zu differenzieren. Bei anderen Unterkünften würde ich das per se akzeptieren aber bei den von diesem Hotel abgerufenen Preisen nicht. Sämtliche Liegeauflagen sind voll mit Vogeldreck und werden auch nicht gereinigt. Wir haben einen streunenden Hund beobachtet, der Gegenüber am Pool auf der Liege lag und dem Gast die Pizza vom Teller gefressen hat als dieser kurz nicht da war. Die Affen im Hotel erledigen ihr Geschäft naturgemäß…dies wird aber über Stunden von niemandem entfernt. Von der Bar schallt bis 3 Uhr nachts das Geschrei derer die es übertrieben haben und alles wirkt langsam in die Jahre gekommen. Die dunklen Ablagerungen am Strand sind vermutlich Rückstände der Schiffe die nicht weit südlich das Land kreuzen hat uns auch veranlasst die Kinder dort nicht groß spielen zu lassen. Wie gesagt, viele der Dinge würde ich nicht groß kritisieren wenn nicht ein entsprechender Preis pro Nacht verlangt werden würde.
• Hasitha (10/5): Definitely our best hotel experience. - The hotel was fantastic in every way. The service provided by staff were beyond what we had experienced anywhere else before. It’s like no is not part of their vocabulary. And the service felt always like it came from their heart. They must be happy employees to treat guests so well. Our favourite bits were the local ladies who prepared hoppers, archery and the peacocks. We will definitely return. Nothing comes to mind. Perhaps the buffet was pricey.
• Paul (1/5): Shocking that the ACCIDENT of our son got NO attention. - Great Facilities for Kids Our Child (3 years old) had an accident. He ran into the glass door of the playzone. The glass had no stripes to indicate for children that there is a door. We then rushed into the hotels "clinic" opposite the playzone. The self acclaimed "doctor" did not even get up from his chair. He was of 0 help while our son was screaming. I asked for a cooling pad. They said they dont have cooling pads in the hotel?!?! I rushed to the reception and asked for a cooling pad, same answer. We then got ice from the bar and told the team that once the situation eases, we would like to speak to the General Manager. We were informed that the GM was on leave. We asked to meet him another day. Noone ever approached us. No apologies, no nice gestures towards our injured son. I asked for the GM meeting numerous times. Noone ever reached out. I then went to the playzone again to at least make sure they put stickers on the door so that other children wont experience the same. Our son had to be hospitalized and a CT scan done to check brain bleeds. He is now in bed with severe concussion. the hotel did exactly0 to support. Very poor.
• Sylvia (4/5): - Das Shangri-La Hambantota präsentierte sich insgesamt in einem renovierungsbedürftigen Zustand. Besonders negativ empfanden wir den sehr lauten und völlig überfüllten Speisesaal, der eher an Massenabfertigung als an ein Resort dieser Kategorie erinnerte. Zudem war deutlich spürbar, dass das Hotel — auch durch die Anbindung an den Flughafen Moskau–Hambantota — stark auf russische Gäste ausgerichtet ist, was sich sowohl im Service als auch im gesamten Hotelkonzept widerspiegelte. Aufgrund dieser erheblichen Abweichungen von den Erwartungen haben wir das Shangri-La nach nur zwei Tagen Aufenthalt verlassen. Wir waren damit nicht die einzigen europäischen Gäste, die diesen Schritt gegangen sind — mehrere andere Reisende taten dies aus ähnlichen Gründen. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Sylvia Schubert

• Hanna (10/5): Perfekter Ort für Familien und Erholung. - Das Hotel ist super kinderfreundlich, hat eine tolle Poolanlage und einen wunderschönen Spa. Besonders hat uns auch der Service gefallen mit dem Whatsapp-Service. Das war wirklich sehr entspannt und hilfreich. Das Personal war überaus freundlich und hätte nichts besser machen können. Vielen Dank!

I would have preferred if the coconuts were held in a cool room before being served. Cooled coconut water is a lot better than warm coconut water, I suggest you try it cooled, This is our experience from staying in other Asian countries

Le petit déjeuner copieux,les matelas et coussins super.la chambre parentale mega spacieuse Il ne manquait vraiment rien. On a gardé une journée à flanner à l’hotel entre les piscines la plage,table ping pong etc cela nous a requinquer pour continuer notre road trip. • Karen (8/5): Ein Besuch, der sich lohnt. - Das Shangri-La Hambantota liegt sehr schön, das Hotel ist schön ausgestattet, die Zimmer sind großzügig und Shangri-La Standard entsprechend. Essen in den Restaurants ist lecker. Das Personal sehr freundlich und bemüht. Auch Sonderwünsche werden realisiert. Hier ist besonders Tharindi zu erwähnen, die sich immer sehr um die Kunden bemüht. Der Spa ist exceptionell. Leider ist der Service in den Restaurants, am Pool und auf dem Zimmer etwas langsam und auch nicht immer 100% ig korrekt ausgeführt. Hier ist noch Optimierungsbedarf. Aber auch hier immer sehr freundliche Angestellten.
• Alice (10/5): Exceptionnel, extraordinaire, à tester au moins une fois dans sa vie (j'y retournerai)... - Service exceptionnel. Personnel aux petits soins, notamment Tharindi et Dilrukshi qui ont pris soin de moi tout le séjour. La chambre était magnifique avec une superbe vue sur la mer et le coucher de soleil. Les restaurants offrent un choix varié en termes culinaires et d'ambiance. Tout le staff était aux petits soins, avec accès direct via whatsapp aux différents services de l'hotel pour booker ou changer des réservations de golf, de spa, de restaurant et d'expérience quand on le souhaite. Les excursions ont été personalisées pour que je puisse voir des temples et des usines de production de thé et des plantations en plus de mes visites culturelles. Bien que je n'y sois pas allée avec des enfants en bas âge, cet hôtel convient à tout type de voyageur: seul, en couple, en famille, avec des enfants en bas âge car il y a aussi un kids club en face du kids pool et opposé du pro shop du golf. J'ai tout adoré dans ce voyage, je vous recommande vivement cet hôtel, j'ai rarement expérimenté un service pareil de toute ma vie. Exceptionnel, mérite une mention "extraordinaire"... Le wifi est partout sauf sur le parcours de golf (mais c'est un pays en voie de développement donc cela me paraissait normal). A part cela tout était au top, vraiment difficile de trouver quoi que ce soit à redire...

Special mention for Dinesh sous chef who gave us recipes and an exceptional cooking course in the hotel. He went above and beyond to help us in every way. 😀 Small and uninteresting pool bars . Would be great if they were larger with larger sitting areas. Didn’t really want to sit in these areas day or evening although near to main pool as not that attractive. Wasn’t sure if there was much alcohol in the drinks ordered in places at the hotel compared to outside the resort - seemed quite tasteless having ordered branded doubles I normally drink and cocktails.

• Nikolai (6/5): A large and peaceful resort with good facilities and a great gym, but outdated infrastructure, weak management processes - I liked the large territory of the hotel and the availability of children’s water slides. The room was very spacious, and overall I liked the hotel. I especially liked the gym — it is very well equipped and truly impressive. The buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was good and reasonably priced. For two adults it was around 15,000 LKR, which is a very fair price by local standards. Overall, the staff were friendly and polite. Early in the morning, the ventilation in the gym was barely working, and there was almost no fresh air. The hotel itself feels quite old and poorly maintained, with visible signs of wear and aging. The kids’ club exists, which is good, but there is basically nothing for children to do there — no activities or entertainment, only cartoons. The beach was disappointing due to very strong waves, making swimming unsafe and uncomfortable during our stay. I was very dissatisfied with the front desk / check-in process. We were initially taken to an occupied room with other guests’ luggage inside, which was very surprising. We had to return to the lobby to resolve the issue. It turned out that a staff member had not marked the room as occupied in the system. In the end, we were given a room of the same category, but the management process itself was concerning. Another serious issue occurred at checkout. I was asked to pay in Sri Lankan rupees, even though my booking was made in USD. I was told I could pay in dollars, but at an unfavorable exchange rate. I had to spend time explaining that a guest should not be expected to carry a large amount of local currency to pay for a booking originally made in USD. This was the first time in my travels that I encountered a situation where the final cost was effectively increased due to forced currency conversion. The resort is also very remote. It is well located for visiting national parks and is a good option for a short stay for that purpose, but it is far from popular areas. In my opinion, one or two nights are more than enough. For a longer stay, places like Unawatuna or Weligama are a much better choice.
