Guest Reviews
- Lisa (9/5): - Food was The food was amazing
- Guest (9/5): -
- Edward Alan (10/5): Perfect - J7st perfect for what we needed Nothing
- Emma (9/5): Friendly, comfortable place to stay with amazing food. Will definitely be back. - Staff were lovely very attentive, friendly and nothing too much trouble. Room was comfortable and the food was amazing. Would definitely stay there again.
- David (1/5): Very dissapointing - The location We have stayed here a few times over the last few years , unfortunately it has changed hands and in my opinion has gone down hill , to start when we checked in bearing in mind it was -2 outside there was no heating on in the room but was told to put on when you get inside it was freezing in the room , when i did put the heating on only the top half of the radiator gets hot it needs bleeding , we was only given 1 towel and 1 gown for 2 of us i had to go to reception and ask for another 1 , also the shower had hair in the tray and only 1 bedside light worked all things that surely should be checked before check in , we was hoping to eat there as the food used to be lovely but after a look at the menu was ok if you liked something anything in a wine sauce or pizza , also when asking if we could book for breakfast was told don’t do it anymore you have to go to the local cafe , missing a trick there if you ask me as breakfast used to be lovely there
- Matthew (9/5): Very friendly staff with good food and comfortable rooms. I would recommend. - I stayed here for work and chose this place as it was the closest to where I was working. The room was comfortable and spacious with good parking right outside. There was also a fridge in the room which could have been useful for breakfast as this was not provided. The staff in the bar were very friendly and welcoming as well. I ate a 3 course meal in the bar and all courses were very good and good value. The village of Great Glen is lovely with a co-op store for breakfast supplies or a cafe called Lou Lou's which is excellent if you want it made for you. My only minor gripe was the wifi was so slow in my room it was almost unusable. I had good signal on my phone so I was able to hotspot.
- Paul (8/5): - Super location for me. I arrived slightly early, but the staff arranged early access to my room. The food in the restaurant is superb, wished I had stayed longer to try more & had my wife with me to share it with. Only a couple of minor things, probably specific for me, would have likes a small table / desk in the room to use for paperwork. Sitting on the bed was ok, just not as comfortable for a couple of hours when using a laptop & sifting through sheets of paper. I could have gone over to the bar, but to be honest it was so bloody cold outside I though I would stay in my room for a bit & warm up until dinner time! Only other thought, it was very, very cold out. Large radiator in the room was excellent, however, loved the rustic door that goes straight out into the car park, obviously not built or fitted to modern standards of insulation. Simply having a curtain to draw across could have saved the odd draft & kept the heat in.
- Baynes (8/5): Excellent stay - restaurant outstanding - The attraction on booking was the Italian menu and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is first class and is a real gem in the 'middle of nowhere'. Rooms are good enough - we were only there for sleeping and for that they are fine. No option for breakfast is a shame. The pub is closed early mornings. We were, however, able to find a very friendly cafe called Loulou's in the village of Great Glen that serves really great breakfast fare. We were lucky with the weather as this cafe would not be so convenient if it had been raining.
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Nice pub hotel in southern Leicestershire - Nice location, rooms are in a separate annexe to the main building, comfy bed and nice shower. Bonus of a mini fridge in the room. The windows are a bit draughty (but it’s an old building) on a cold day.
- Keri (9/5): - The owner was very helpful. There was a burst pipe in the room above me. I was moved rooms quickly and given a complimentary glass of wine for the inconvenience!
The room was spacious and clean.
The meal in the restaurant was fabulous.
Plenty of parking and good wifi. Highly recommend. Nothing
- graeme (4/5): disappointing - no breakfast available food
- michael (10/5): Nice and helpful friendly staff accommodation was lovely. Would return again. - Accommodation accommodation was different but nice Nothing
- Karen (8/5): Nice stay near to Leicester - perfect for archers competing at Bowmen of Glen - Good location and easy to get to, was surprised to find a mini fridge in the wardrobe/cupboard, and the bed was comfy. Nothing.
- Snezana (10/5): Great for short stay - Location is fantastic. Big parking at the back. Comfy room with big bathroom. Accomodation was in separate building from a pub and no noise. Food served in the pub is delicious!
- James (9/5): Fabulous and unique accommodation with super friendly staff. - Personable staff greeted me on arrival. They were friendly and engaged in conversation.
I felt I was treated as an individual not just another customer.
Great ambience, ideal for a stop over.
Immaculate and unique accommodation with roll top bath.
- Jamil (10/5): -
- Gareth (8/5): - Own front door
- Clare (9/5): Excellent! - Excellent accommodation in a beautiful part of the country. Staff were really friendly. Food was delicious although we did not have breakfast there. The shower could have been a bit bigger...more room to move around needed
- johnston (10/5): -
- Robert (4/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Happy - Was just perfect for us for one night as we attended a near by wedding staff very helpful room nice even had a roll top bath in the room Nothing
- Samantha (2/5): Do not stay here - unclean - It is in a nice village Room very dirty and unclean. Bed was horrible to stay in as a result - lots of hairs in room
Dirty towel left in room
Human excrement in toilet
Locked gates to car park at night but didn't tell us so couldn't get back in when we got back from dinner
Noone around for check out with no instructions and noone to speak to in person about the issues
Emailed to let them know about the issues and they initially offered to call and discuss. However, ignored the emails sent after that to arrange a time so was not resolved.
- Paul (5/5): Okay, would have preferred it to have been less 'dingy' - The location was spot on and I liked the fact that our room was only a couple of metres away from our front door. The room was dark and the bedside lamp on one of the sides was there but had no socket to plug it into. The bathroom was clean. Found the bed a little uncomfortable, not the best mattress in the world. Everything was just adequate nothing exceptional.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Syed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (7/5): good value for the price. - The food in the Italian restaurant was excellent. Staff were very helpful. Very small room.
- Lynn (6/5): Pleasant - The pub restaurant was very hospitable staff were lovely, room needed a proper clean cobwebs in every corner and across ceiling. No milks for tea and in general house keeping lacked attention to detail. It's a cute place though The cobwebs in the room. And the lack of ventilation
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Good size room and helpful staff. Post code took me 500 yards away to the right on Main Road as I missed the sign for the pub on my left. Hard to adjust the water temp in shower so I didn't scald myself. No breakfast option.
- Muhammad (8/5): Exceptional stay - Extremely friendly and professional staff. Very helpful. I had to check out late at night, they still helped. Quite a nice experience Room was not as big, but great value for money
- Samantha (1/5): Bad - Nothing. Want a refund All of it
- Harriet (3/5): 13 year old child put in a room round the corner and up a flight of stairs instead of the next room even though this see - Location for our event. No hot water for any of the three rooms. Couldn’t complain to anyone as there was no contact phone in the room and when we left at 9.30am it was all locked up so I had to post the room keys through the letterbox.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Tristan (1/5): Bed broke - Bed broke during the night. Nobody around to help. Left without sleeping. Still no apology or a refund!!
- James (10/5): 100% recommend - Very attentive and friendly staff. The room was very cosy and quirky, convenient being separate from the pub so we could come and go as we needed as we were staying for a wedding.
- Brian (3/5): Poor - The location Uncomfortable bed poor value for money i would at the very least expect a breakfast for£80
- Andi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kim (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robin (8/5): Very good - Room a little noisy
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Bernie65 (8/5): Enjoyed stay - I liked the unique-ness, and slight quirkiness, also the 'motel' type room which looked out onto the parking lot.
The lunch and evening meals, with many Italian dishes, seemed very popular with the locals, though we only had some tea & cake while we waited to be signed in. There was a bath on 'feet' in the bedroom but also a single shower in the large room adjacent, which also had the toilet and wash hand basin. Rooms were bigger than some places we have stayed in. I would have liked to have tea bags in the room for the morning cuppa, not just coffee sachets (English Breakfast, or even better, Yorkshire ....not Earl Grey, which was offered when we were waiting to sign in.. some people may like them, but we do not).
Also, as the pub/restaurant doesn't open until about 11am, there are no breakfast facilities available on site, so it is best to source elsewhere or bring something that can be eaten for breakfast.
Also, perhaps some written notes on local information on possible places to obtain breakfast/food .. I know we can all search Google for that info, but not everyone is au fait with smartphones and the internet.
I would have liked instructions in the room on where to deposit the key on leavìng; perhaps a secure 'postbox' to deposit the key after leaving the door locked. We were slightly confused about the correct procedure as we were leaving before the 11am pub opening, and no one seemed to be around to ask.
- Sara (7/5): Good budget choice - Good location and very clean. Basic but adequate. Very comfortable bed.
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good -
- Ulrike (7/5): Very convenient place if you need to visit Leicester Grammar school - The staff was very friendly and the room was lovely. We had time to explored the village and liked the location of the Greyhound Inn very much. We were surprised that the kitchen of the pub closed at 6 but only opened at noon the next day which meant we had to search for breakfast which was a little inconvenient.
- Joanne (10/5): Good value for money. - Rooms very nice and clean. Pub just next door. Quick service and nice food. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like
- Jane (5/5): It was ok for one night, probably would not stay again, too many features lackinggain. n - Good location, quite at night. Parking no problem. Room ok Room not ready on arrival at 4.45. should have been ready at 3pm. No toilet paper in room. Poor lighting. No spare blanket . No stand for suitcase.no carpet or rug and flooring didn't feel good for a bedroom. TV remote control grubby. No breakfast and nowhere open locally before around 10 am on a Sunday . Need bathroom shelf for toiletries.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good -
- Clare (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Staff were very friendly
- John (7/5): Good -
- Julie (4/5): Very disappointing, rooms were not checked before being let. - It was a convient location for an event we were attending Unfortunately they recently had been flooded and had done the best to get the rooms ready. We booked 4 out of 5 rooms they have in a converted outbuilding. 1 had a collapsed bed, badly repaired. 1 had no heating and the broken toilet cistern running water all night, 1 had heating on full unable to turn off, 1 had no milk and kettle already full of water. Not enough towels. There were no doormats resulting in mud walking into all the rooms. We booked breakfast and on arrival were told there was none available. We ate in the restaurant the night before, food was average, no attention to detail and served on stone cold crockery. Unattentive service throughout the evening. We tried to complain in the morning but couldn't find anyone until an employee was seen in the car park. He said the manager would contact us, but never has so here is our review.
- Talip (1/5): Terrible - We booked a double room but when we arrived we have been given a room with two single beds. beds were not comfortable at all. Room was too small.
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Convenience Nil
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mario (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff 10/10
Food 10/10
Bar 10/10
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Krishnakumari (6/5): Was OK - A very old, charming building. Facilities very basic. No WiFi. But hey, who cares? It was only for a night. We slept very well. The carpark attached to the hotel was very handy. The window in the bedroom couldn’t be opened and needed fixing.
The shower temperature control was very difficult tp adjust.
- Bea (6/5): Not up to standard - the food was good and the staff friendly the room was dusty in places. Not informed when we arrived that we had to book breakfast and it would be delivered in the morning in a box. There was a menu in the room but it was not clear and it would have been nice to be told by staff regarding breakfast. We woke up next day to find the main house closed and had to find a café for breakfast
- Taomesecrystalgem (3/5): Not Great for Glen ........... - The location is great and that is it. Our room was tatty and the divan bed base was covered in stains. There were paint splashes everywhere ( not from recent decorating). One bedside light didn't work, and the room had a horrible, sickly strawberry scent, which we couldn't locate the source of and a red nylon curtain added to the knocking shop vibe. For a fairly decent-sized bathroom, the owners have installed the smallest shower cubicle, which meant leaving the door open to be able to wash! The piece de resistance was the constant blast of greasy cooking smells from the kitchen extractor, which wafted past our front door. It's a shame there was nowhere else to stay in Great Glen because we would have left on the first night.
- Janet (9/5): It was convenient and comfortable. - The location was easy to find, and away from the "city traffiic" of Leicester. It was close enough to Leicster for a visit to Richard III museum and grave site. The room was large and comfortable. The staff in the pub cheerfully took us to the room, which is next door. We parked right outside the door. Electric outlets were conveniently located. Would have preerred a bath instead of a shower, but we knew that when we booked. The room opened directly to the parking lot, which was fine in good weather, but could have been an issue in bad weather. The door had a step down to the outside which could be tricky. No breakfast on site, but we found a good breakfast place, with lots of locals having breakfast of coffee there.
- John (9/5): Superb - Great place to stay and a real nice restaurant. Even had a claw foot bath in the room!
- Eden (7/5): This was a bit of journey back in time to where I grew up over 55 years ago. - Room was clean and basic. Meal in restaurant was extremely good, No breakfast option Nothing to complain about for the price
- Linda (6/5): A convenient place to say, staff were friendly and the inn served lovely food. - .The room looked nice when entering. The bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly. Although it looked nice , it was very tired, the bathroom needed a really good clean. It wasn’t dirty but it didn’t shine.
There was no heating on, no radiators came on, there was a small heater but the bathroom was very cold. Also the room upstairs was cleaned early morning which woke us up . The lady did apologise for cleaning but I did feel it shouldn’t have been done that early
- Susan (7/5): Good - Location was spot on we were at a wedding at bridge house Barn. Room only clean and tidy lovely unsuite tea and coffee facilities and fridge. TV and spacious wardrobe.
- Ruth (5/5): A reasonably satisfactory stay for one night - The location was excellent The room was cold and rather damp
- D (7/5): Nice place to stay but changes needed - Staff were lovely; very friendly and polite. The pub/restaurant was cosy and welcoming, and the food and drink both reasonably priced and delicious. The rooms were immaculate and very well decorated; having a free standing bath in the main room was a brilliant and quirky addition! Other guests arguing loudly in the car park outside the rooms at 10:30pm for at least 15-20 mins before making noise inside their room for the next hour (not the fault of the hotel, however walls and floor are paper thin and EVERYTHING can be heard).
Checkout was between 8am - 11am but no one from hotel on-site just before 9am when leaving on Sunday morning, had to call them to find out where to leave the key. No fire escape or windows that opened wide enough to escape if needs be for rooms on the upper floor if the only stairwell was to become inaccessible.
- Colin (8/5): Excellent stay and good value for money - The hotel was clean and tidy. The room was cosy with an en-suite shower and toilet. The food (evening meal pizza) was excellent and service very prompt. The only minor issue we had was someone standing directly outside our ground floor room smoking and talking on his phone at 11:30 at night for half an hour before we asked him to stop, which thankfully he did.
- Ian (8/5): Overall we enjoyed our stay as the property is in a great location- it’s comfortable and the staff are friendly. - This was in a great location only a 10 minute taxi ride from Leicester airfield which was hosting the LAA Rally / Flyin. The restaurant and bar were very good with extensive menu and friendly staff Our booking included breakfast but this was simply a tray with cereal and sandwiches offered to us the night before which was eaten in the bedroom the next morning. The reason for this is that the pub/restaurant was locked in the mornings. Presumably this is because no staff are available to provide breakfast. I think this should be highlighted on the booking site.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Jean (5/5): It was a convenient location for visiting family. - Breakfast wasn't available - a breakfast menu was in the room, but no explanation of where to find the cafe advertised.
- Celia (8/5): Very good -
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Radbourne (8/5): Super stay - Loved the novelty of having a bath in the bedroom. The room was a decent size and it was really affordable. There were no instructions for checking out. I entered the pub through the back entrance and there was no-one around to say I was checking out at 9:10am. I therefore had to ring from inside the property and leave a message about where I left the key and that I enjoyed the stay.
- Henriette (6/5): We had a comfortable stay for a reasonable price. went for a lovely walk nearby along the canal. - Simple but all we needed. Nice beer garden. Lovely coffee in the restaurant. It was a bit noisy with people talking outside at night
- Carly (10/5): Exceptional - We loved how friendly and welcoming the staff were. We called a week prior to our booking to see if we could check in earlier than planned as we were going to a local gig. They were more than accommodating.
Food was great. The room was perfect. Clean and comfortable with the added extras of a fridge plus tea and coffee facilities. Beautiful idyllic location. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you guys.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (8/5): Comfortable, value for money, lovely bar staff and amazing pizza! - Accomodation separate to the bar restaurant, a little noisy at closing time but ok. Very comfortable bed and absolutely amazing shower! Went in to order some breakfast around 0900 and no staff. Had to go along to the coop!
- Joe (8/5): Very good overall would - Very accessible and lovely village Curtains let too much light in.
- Des (9/5): Superb - Been before for a meal but decided to stay over and it was lovely 🤗 Was ALL good 👍
- Andy (9/5): Superb -
- Tracy (10/5): Great comfy clean rooms, friendly staff - The rooms were amazing will highly recommend We all had a meal in the evening,,, lasagne, which tasted OK but nothing with it very plain and basic for the money, The garlic bread and we ordered lots, was very dry,, needs lots more butter and not just in the middle, sorry.
- Rupert (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (7/5): Comfortable well laid out rooms. - Spacious, comfortable bed Stairs to the rooms
No bottled water in the room
Overly warm
- Ginny (9/5): Very enjoyed stay - Very clean room, nice location. Very quirky room and very pleasant. We enjoyed a very peaceful night, the bed was very comfortable. Good car parking
The food in the restaurant was extremely good, well stocked bar with a good choice of ales
- Geoff (9/5): Good atmosphere and service in the pub. Clean, tidy and comfortable accommodation with secure parking - hit all the base - Plenty of secure parking - very important as a motorcyclist! Nil
- Darren (8/5): Very good -
- Simonetta (10/5): I want to go again and sample the restaurant which seemed very busy. Obviously good food to be had! :) - Beautiful building with lots of charm and original fixtures. Away from the hustle and bustle of loads of people, as it’s in the village of Great Glen. I stayed in a room outside, in an old outbuilding. The room was very stylish, with vintage features. Spotlessly clean. A large screTV, which you hardly ever get, so I was chuffed. And it even had a small fridge, which was a smeg! I didn’t get to try out the restaurant as my mum turned up at the last minute, wanting some catch up time with me. I didn’t know how to open the window. I should have asked really. (They were vintage and an unusual shape)
- Vanessa (10/5): A little haven of wonderfulness - and the food is incredible - do not hesitate to eat, drink, stay. - I came across this marvellous haven of wonderfulness by complete accident - I had no intention of staying, but I did, and I ended up staying not 1 but 3 nights.
It is a seriously amazing experience. The food is beyond outstanding. The staff were incredibly lovely and warm and helpful - I was a little bit poorly, which is why I stayed longer (not covid but something yucky like it) I was incredibly well looked after. The team really could not do enough for me. My dog even fell a bit in love with the owner's doggo. Such a wonderful place and incredible culture. Don't hesitate to book. The food is sublime. NOT A SINGLE THING - I just wish I was able to stay longer
- Martin (6/5): It was very convenient for us - staff very good no breakfast.room rather shoddy (leaking tap etc.)
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (5/5): Skip the breakfast! - We stayed for an event at the pub so location was very convenient. The breakfast was hugely disappointing and late. When I booked, given this is a pub that serves food, I thought breakfast would be in the pub and a cooked breakfast but it was on a tray, delivered to the room 40mins late, with a range of cling-wrapped food including a white bread ham sandwich and stale croissant, carton of juice and some yoghurt/granola. Skip the breakfast if you stay! There’s a nice cafe up the road.
The room also had a tea/ coffee making area but no milk and no one was available to get any from.
The bathroom was clean and I slept ok so it wasn’t all bad!
- Nigel (8/5): Very good -
- Carole (8/5): Very convenient, great room and facilities. - Easy to park. Very nice room and bathroom. Very clean and comfortable. Nice to have the little fridge in the room.
- Katharine (8/5): Lovely, no frills but comfortable stay exactly where I needed it. -
