Guest Reviews
- Chrystelle (6/5): Sinon calme dt reposant - Le bruit de la mer et le cadre Les horaires pour la cuisine et le manque de matériels .
Avoir un micro-ondes serait bien .
- Arthur (9/5): Love it will do it again for sure - Very nice and cosy
- Connor (7/5): Fabulous value (but the bed is not as comfortable as it could be) - We found Bluepango Guest House to be great value. It is peaceful, the owner is very helpful, and there is a lovely grassy area where you can sit under the trees and read a book or just enjoy the view of the ocean. Our room was pretty basic (as you'd expect for the price) but it had a mini fridge, sink, gas ring, ceiling fan, insect screens on the windows and a bathroom with hot shower, all of which worked well. I wouldn't recommend swimming here (it is very rocky) but you can walk or catch one of the numerous cheap public minibuses to Pango or one of the other nearby beaches. There are also many nearby resorts, some of which give you permission to use their pool or beach if you have a meal in their restaurant. The only real problem was that the mattress was not very comfortable. I slept fine, but if you need a comfy bed then this probably isn't the place for you. Otherwise, it's great value.

- TK97 (9/5): Best beach hotel - The location and the beach Nothing at all
- Arthur (9/5): Awesome and affordable it’s my go to and relax - Nice and cosy Had to be quiet at night due to very low noise pollution , fans are not strong enough to cool me down

- Vidit (3/5): Don't book unless you want to dread going back to your accommodation after a hectic day in Port Vila - The location. Absolutely beautiful, it's located in a beautiful place right next to the ocean and it's amazing. The property is for sale and hence I believe that the owners or operators were not interested in renovating the place. I was in a dorm of 6 people and we have one table fan that didn't have a cover to protect you from the fan blades which had to be shared with people.
Further, there were cockroaches, the WiFi wouldn't work most of the times and if you are located in a room away from the router, you are done for it. You really don't want to cook in the kitchen, it stinks and it's super oily on the kitchen platform.
I would pay a few more bucks $ to stay at a place where I wouldn't have to get up twice every night to change the direction of the fan towards me.

- Rose (8/5): -
- Miro (10/5): -
- Edna (7/5): - Quiet Kitchen utensils shortage

- Frances (8/5): Value for money - would recommend if you wish to save money and have plans to spend days elsewhere - Value for money - particularly in Vanuatu. Good location on the beach where you can hear the waves in the background. The staff do well at keeping the place quiet.
I stayed in a hostel with some good people. I think I was lucky as the backpacking vibe overall on the island is not great. There were some strange people in the other rooms staying there long term. I didn’t feel unsafe but rather people I wanted to avoid.

- Slawomir (7/5): Good price/value with highs and lows - Cheapest accomodation in Efate/Port Vila. I was positively surprised that the place had decent wifi and hot showers during the day. Owners are friendly albeit reserved. Unfortunately cleanliness of the sanitary areas could be better. It‘s a shame as regular cleaning does not take too much time and would make this place much better.
- Mj (8/5): Very good - Location local l food
- Anonymous (8/5): Good quality, good price - The owner is very nice.
Outside Port Vila in front of the ocean, location is beautiful Not many places to eat around
- Marc (2/5): I was excited to leave. - Booked for three nights, stayed only for a night and immediately left the next day. Property is hard to get into, cleanliness is a joke. You pay what you pay for basically.
- Jüttner (7/5): Good - For the price you get a clean room with a decent bed and bathroom. The host Peter was super nice and the people in the hostel were really friendly aswell. If you are on a budget this is a valid option Pool was not working
- Thieffen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Marty (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Right on the beach, calm, quiet Cold water only, no AC (but it gets pretty cool at night, so it’s still comfortable)
- Reka (8/5): Very good - Great sea view and a direct gate to the beach at low tide to admire the coral and rock pools. The accommodation itself was simple, but it had everything we needed - bed, bathroom with a shower, a kitchen with a gas stove (with the option to use pots and pans from a shared kitchen), a fridge, and a bench outside to hang out. It was good for a lower budget short stay but it appeared that many people had longer stays there too. It is a bit of a walk from town (an hour or more to the center), but there are lots of local buses that can take you there fast.
- Ednah (8/5): Appreciate everything during my stay there. - Peaceful and beside the seacoast Mattress too hard need softer mattresses.
- D'amour (4/5): Ok for back Packers. - No breakfast
- Akombi (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (6/5): Good For The price - I liked the price. The bed was pretty comfortable. What I didn't know was that there was no bathroom soap on the property. You have to bring your own. The kitchen area where I was was a bit messy, but that was not the fault of the staff.
Also, it should be noted that if you choose to take a minibus in, you must walk two minutes down a dirt road to the property.
Another great thing about the property is that it's literally right on the ocean. Some good places to eat are right up the road too.
All in all, it's a great place for the budget conscious. Just don't expect a lot. The people staying there were really nice. I made some nice friends. I would definitely go back now that I know what to expect and can be better prepared.
There are a few stores you can get the essentials at along the way to the place.
You also need your own shower products and possibly a towel, as I wasn't offered one, but I saw others getting towels. Maybe that's extra?
Also, the wifi doesn't work in your room, and cell coverage is random at best. The cell coverage is probably because of how low it is to sea level.
I would have given the initial rating higher had there been bathroom soap.
- Yannick (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice accommodation! You get absolutely top accommodation for very reasonable money and the staff are super friendly. Every time again.
- Bolus55555 (8/5): Very good - Location, view from the yard, nice quiet area,
- Arunkumar (10/5): Lowest price highest benifit - Very good Nice Nik
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (8/5): Very good - This place is great if you aren't too fussy. I loved the amount of space, the view of the water, the access to cooking materials, plates, cups, etc, with an in room gas cook top and sink. The room wasn't furnished with its own cookware and plates, but there's a room with access to them during the daytime. Our room had a large fan and louvre shades with screens, which we mostly left open for a breeze to keep cool. Mosquitoes were minimal due to sea breeze.
This place has no hot water but does have personal showers, perfect for cooling off after a hot day outside. I highly recommend bringing your own hand soap and dishwashing liquid if you plan to use the kitchen.
- Sylwia (7/5): Good -
- Ajay (5/5): Average place average price - Good location, cool things to explore nearby.
Continence store and resteraunts nearby.
Amenities to cook with in the kitchen. Not very hospitable, it gave off the vibe that the owners really just wanted you to pay your money, stay, and get out.
Pool was closed for some reason which was super dissapointing
- Chartrinn (8/5): Nice place - Falling asleep with the noise of the wave. Very relaxing place It's not the closest from town but it's still possible to catch a bus or walk
- Bethan (7/5): Great quiet spot on the ocean, clean and good value if you are on a budget. - Lovely and quiet. Everyone kept to themselves which was just what I wanted! The location is fantastic. short local bus ride to the city and absolute seafront. It was great to have a little gas cooker, kitchen sink and fridge in my room, which meant I saved loads of money being able to buy veg at the market and cook. The kitchen has basics, needs some dishcloths and washing up liquid as most people dont tend to travel with them. The facility gets the sea breeze which is vital as no air con. the room itself could have a fan that moves the air that wouldve been advantageous. also this would be an amazing spot if the pool was working, as there is no way to go in the sea at low tide and even at high tide theres quite a swell and waves so snorkelling not really accessible from the guesthouse. It was so hot!
- Marty (8/5): Very good -
- Summer (1/5): Avoid at all costs - there’s not anything I really liked about this place. It’s the cheapest in Port Vila, but just go somewhere else as everywhere else I’ve stayed in Port Vila has been good.
If you’re seriously considering staying here, book only for one night at first to see if you actually like it. If you book for multiple nights but need to cancel, the owner will demand extra money upfront as a fee. It happened to me and a lot of other people who left reviews here. There was a man living in a tent in the room when I checked in which really threw me off. I’ve stayed in dozens of hostels in my life but never had another person camping in a tent in one. The entire conditions were filthy with the bathroom not having any handsoap or toilet paper and being in such a dingy condition. The dorm room is next to someone’s private residence (shares a wall) so you hear them throughout the day and night, and the dorm room is in the same room as the shared kitchen so you get all of the sounds and smells from people cooking. There are no mosquito nets but the door was broken so expect to wake up covered in bug bites.
The conditions were so horrible I had to leave after just one night, and the owner turned into the most angry and unpleasant person I ever met. He tried demanding more money from me than I would have originally owed and raised his voice making me very uncomfortable.
This is not a safe or hygienic place to stay.
- Marty (8/5): Very good -
- Monika (7/5): We will come back again - Good view. Provide the towel.
- Bill (7/5): Cheap but adequate. - it was cheap. No Breakfeast.
- Errol (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): A Hidden Oasis of Tranquillity Just Minutes from Port Vila! - Bluepango Guest House is an absolute paradise just a stone's throw from the city! This place is a haven of peace and tranquillity, perfect for anyone looking to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle. The private beach is a dream come true, offering breathtaking views and the perfect spot to relax with a book or enjoy the soothing sounds of the ocean. The guest house is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a serene and calming atmosphere. The owner is incredibly thoughtful and welcoming, ensuring that every guest feels at home. With comfortable sun loungers for soaking up the sun, a spacious and refreshing shower, and beautifully maintained grounds, Bluepango offers everything you need for a rejuvenating stay. This is truly a hidden gem in Port Vila, and I can't recommend it enough for those seeking a peaceful retreat! Honestly, there's nothing to dislike about Bluepango Guest House. It's the perfect spot for relaxation, with its private beach, comfortable amenities, and serene surroundings. Every moment here is pure bliss!
- Anonymous (7/5): I love to stay more longer - I love the view 😍 If the swimming pool was not undermaintence but understand able
- Rotishma (10/5): Best n I will be back - The quietness and the respect you get from the owner I liked everything.great place to be on your own
- Earl (8/5): Very good -
- Edward (4/5): A dilapidated dump that's not worth the price difference - The location is fairly accessible to Port Vila city centre, with buses passing frequently along the road outside directly into town.
There is a nice rocky beach on site. I'm not sure it's possible to swim in it, but I enjoyed sitting in the garden looking at it. The room was really weird, with a fan that barely blew any air, and windows that faced closed spaces so no fresh air coming in, it was like sleeping in a dirty van.
To access the shower and toilet, you have to walk through multiple mosquito infested corridors, through some storage areas and the kitchen.
The beds and mattresses were in various state of decomposing, and everything felt like it's about to collapse. The walls had multiple gaping holes, the door doesn't close properly ever (and without lockers, all of your possessions are just there for the taking), and the lights were way too dim. The place is beyond ridiculous.
On the final day, I've left my bags with the manager in the front office, and went for a short hike before my early afternoon flight, and was shocked to discover when I returned that they've ransacked my entire food bag (including cooking utensils), because, and I quote, 'you've checked out and we didn't know what to do with it'
I know this is the cheapest place on the island, but the losses you'll incur from their behaviour aren't worth it. Go anywhere else
- Eva (9/5): Superb - Quiet location close to the beach and not too far to Port vila! Very nice owner, Cosy bed (so nice to hear the sea when you sleep), little kitchen and really good price!
- Julian (8/5): Really good accomadation for low budget travel with friendly owners. - Friendly owners treated us really well, even have us some food when we didnt even ask for it. Really good value for your money. The property is outside of the city and to get to a supermarket you will have to take the bus. There is a small store close by though.
- Chrisson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emilia (7/5): Good -
- Mamta (9/5): Superb - Great location .lovely staff It was ok for me . However people might find intermittent wifi connection little disappointing
- Darren (8/5): Very good -
- Banke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pierre (7/5): A fair option for a peaceful natural stay - A quiet location out of town, near the ocean with a good breeze.
Stove, fridge, kitchenware were useful to cook your own breakfast, with a big table outside the room under the shade... Some restaurants nearby, for evening meals. First supermarket 30' walk away There was a inner light on the ceiling that could not be turned off at night...
Neighbours in an adjacent room could be noisy in times of holidays...
- Addi (8/5): Very good -
- Jelmer (7/5): Good -
- Frances (7/5): Good -
- Gabriela (10/5): Best place to stay - Amazing service from Peter.
Quite Simple living, homely and clean. Best place to stay on a budget with private rooms and private cooking areas. You sleep and wake up with the sound of the waves. Lots of buses outside for 150 vatu to go to town. Shops, kava bar and restaurant only a couple minutes walking. Safe and friendly area outside the hustle of town. Love pango
- R. (7/5): Good - Rooms are spacious. The fact you hear the sea waves while sleeping. The pillow was tough like a bowling ball. The kitchen is super basic.
- Ashleigh (8/5): Excellent value, helpful hosts, will stay again. - Room was better than I expected for the low cost. Spacious, with ensuite toilet and shower, and with private cooking facilities (gas hob) and fridge. The property is right on the water which is lovely, but be aware the coastline is a bit rocky at this point rather than sandy beach.
- Iona (10/5): Love bluepango - Lovely hostel by the waterfront with Peter and Helena near Pango village. Pango is one of the most beautiful parts of the island! Walking into town is about 45 minutes, but is easy. Or there's the bus for 150Vatu and around 10 minutes. Great location, great hosts!
- Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (7/5): Good - Nice to look out at the sea, unfortunately not suitable for swimming. Very quiet. Only a short walk to get a taxi. Cold showers. Accommodation is pretty basic, but there is a gas hob.
- Jiang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabel (8/5): Clean and simple - No breakfast given
- Attila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ayomiku (9/5): Amazing. The owners are friendly and I spoke a little Korean with them. They are so kind and helpful - The Owners were super friendly. The place is very beautiful and has a beautiful Seaview. The location is a little far from town, however it's not an issue since you can take the bus. :)
- Róbert (10/5): Exceptional - Very good price-value. Next to the ocean, you'll have a good sleep listening to the ocean waves. Nice people in the guest house too(owners and travellers too!). You can always catch a bus to the town easily (althought its a bit harder on sundays to get back from town but still good).
Very good place to stay in Efate!
- Nathaniel (7/5): I enjoyed the ambiance of sitting outside under cover and listening to the calming sound of the ocea - The sound of the ocean was constant and meditative, it help me sleep even. The covered area and the picnic table outside each room is simple and clever. The mattress was stiff and the pillow couldnt decide if it was soft or hard. Bring your own towel and soap. No hot water.
- Aline (8/5): Very good -
- David (4/5): The property is basically a bare basics hostel. - The price was reasonable. although the property is on the water, it is not possible to swim at that location. The kitchen facilities were marginal with no basics supplied at all and the knives and silverware nearly nonexistent. Although there is a swimming pool, it looks as though it has been closed for years.
- Sujoy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Prue (4/5): Good enough - No breakfast. Nice location out of town. Nice view of sea. Easy to catch a bus to town Track down from road was a bit rough. Neighbour was sick during the night. Not able to swim. No wifi.
- Claudio (7/5): Good -
- Hiro (4/5): Disappointing - It’s reasonable Something was burning outside.
I couldn’t sleep well even I wear a mask
- Sondra (8/5): Rustic but location is amazing! - The location was amazing!! The sound of waves crashing lulled me to sleep every night. It was close enough to the city for being able to pick up food or go on excursions. Also a couple good restaurants to easily walk to. Honeymoon Beach which had great snorkeling, was a quick bus ride away. The bed was a bit hard but I got used to it. The shared bathroom had a handheld shower which wasnt listed as such. I was expecting a more standard shower in a shared bathroom.
- Sharon (5/5): If was fair for what you paid for - Close to shops No where to swim
- Violetta (8/5): Feel Vanuatu lifestyle - Nice location close to a shop and some restaurants. Owner is very nice No hot shower. Stiff bad and pillow
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Janice (10/5): good value for money. our rooms were clean rubbish removed daily but not other cleaning provided. we had children with u - the location next to the water provides a lovely cooling breeze. It’s not to far out of town. easy yo get a bus from the road. The owners are so accommodating and tried hard to cater to our special requirements. we had children with us who made friends with children in other rooms. there’s a large grassed area which was great for them to play on. the kitchen comes with no equipment despite us asking about this. Towels not provided though we confirmed they provided same.
- Janice (10/5): We loved it. We had 5 rooms booked. Will stay again. - Location next to the water. Lovely breeze at night. Owners tried hard to accommodate all our needs. Our rooms were clean. Rubbish removed daily. Great value for the price. we clarified if towels and kitchen equipment provided before we arrived. Nothing is provided despite being told it was. No cleaning during our stay and no broom etc to sweep out yourself.
- Janice (10/5): Awesome. Our kids loved it. - Sits right by the water. Lovely breeze. Owners lovely and approachable. Basic clean rooms. Great mix of local and foreign guests. Everyone friendly. kitchen not equiped and towels not provided. only a negative because we confirmed this before arrival only to find that neither is provided.
