• Katharina (8/5): We had a wonderful stay exploring the island’s beautiful beaches and the magical spirit forest. - This property is beautifully located on the mid-north side of the island, just a five-minute walk to the beach where you can listen to eagles and sea lions catching herring. The room is bright and spacious, with lovely attention to detail. The common area offers plenty of space to rest and relax, and the small kitchen has everything you need to prepare your meals.

The host was frequently practicing guitar as early as 9am, and as late as 10pm, and it was quite loud. It made the perceived level of privacy low.

• Hiro (6/5): It was nice stay - It was very lovely space, clean, cozy, peaceful! I love their hospitality, the coffee was at kitchen all the time, a variety of warm breakfast options. It was a beautiful log house with lovely interiors. The skylight was just above the bed, so one of my family members was up from 4am cause it was so bright, I wish the window were closable for good sleep.

My daughters and I went to use the hot tub the second evening we stayed there and we did not go in. It appeared that some of the foam from the cover was disintegrating and was floating around in the water. It also didn't appear to be very clean so we didn't chance it. No A/C in the room and no blinds or curtains on the windows made it hard to sleep.

The room was spacious and clean - The location was perfect - very close to whalebone beach and only 10 min from the main "center". Easy access to hiking, the beach and amenities. We loved the extra of the hot tub and outdoor balcony backing onto the forest that would be lovely in summer to read a book on. The room was very spacious and clean with a comfy bed and most of all the property was quiet and the hosts were courteous and very accommodating. Breakfast was great as well!

• sapna (10/5): - This is hands down one of the BEST homes I have been in. It is so gorgeous!!! It is even better than it looks in pictures. Paul and Zeniya are just fabulous hosts. Very respectful, kind and thoughtful humans. They served us a healthy and filling breakfast. The in-house cat, Tabby is such a joy! The hosts are thoughtful to keep him away from the guest rooms incase folks are allergic or prefer not to have a cat around. Overall a 100% satisfaction booking this place. If I'm back in Gabriola I will certainly be back here.

• Michael (4/5): new management that needs to get serious about running a bnb. - Breakfast ( once we found it ) was fine, airbnb location was where it was supposed to be! I think this was new ownership, as the service really didn't match the quality of a 9+ rating on booking. ( someone on the island also thought new people were running the place. ) communication was slow and lacking in other ways. another group of guests decided to throw a party directly outside of our room...management took quite a while to do anything about it, had to be notified on multiple platforms to respond. they also had no interest in giving us suggestions on things to do on Gabriola until 30 minutes before check-out on the final day, once we had no time left to explore. a bunch of other stuff around poor / lack of communication that won't fit here: overall just somewhat careless and sloppy management. but the building is clean, location is nice, breakfast was fine, etc.

• Loraxo (9/5): Excellent - would stay again - Comfortable, clean, friendly, private. I think there are only 3 rooms at this B&B so it didn't feel busy. Breakfast was available from 830 to 1000 in a covered serving dish specific to our room so you didn't have to worry that other guests would eat everything before you got there, though if you want it hot, go close to serving time. Self-serve waffle maker was great but only available one morning. Pancakes the next morning. Oatmeal only served one morning. 3 minute walk to a pebble beach. Deer in the yard. Strong shower.. Friendly resident cat. Lighting in room was too bright with exposed bulbs with light fixtures that are fashion over function. I would suggest light shades over the bulbs or make them dimmable. One light was dimmable but the filament was exposed so it also was hard on the eyes.

• Jennifer (8/5): Wonderful location for our first time visit to Gabriola Island. - A beautifully designed retreat nestled in the woods and close to hiking trails to the ocean. Cosy rooms with private deck, a delicious self-serve breakfast and access to a comfortable common area. Hosts were friendly and helpful. A small suggestion: the rooms are comfortable but dark at night. A night light in the bathroom would be welcome!

• John (10/5): Wonderful place to stay while visiting and exploring Gabriola Island. - The property is right near the forest and only a 3 minute walk to the ocean front. The B&B is beautiful and the bedrooms are very large with large picture windows. We enjoyed the cooked breakfasts and the owners went out of their way to provide gluten free options. Everything was wonderful including the deer that roam the property.

• Larsen (9/5): Peaceful spot friendly hosts serene environment. - I really enjoyed sitting in the hottub surrounded by quiet serene surroundings. The room was spacious with a large private balcony and comfortable furniture and even a nice candle it was very cozy. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. I felt very much at home and enjoyed my stay. I went for a nice island break and was not disappointed.
• Debra (5/5): Beautiful place but hosts need improvement - It was in a nice quiet location but a short drive to anywhere on the island. The room was very comfortable. Hummingbird B&B has great potential to be an excellent stay but it fails on some critical points. 1. We barely saw the hosts on our 3 night stay. There was no warm welcome (just a perfunctory “this is the room code”), no information given about the area or local amenities, no conversations or any interest in the guests. It was definitely a hands-off approach which probably works in a Best Western but not in a B&B. They weren’t around even at breakfast which was a buffet. 2. The breakfast was ok. But nothing special. It was made in advance of our scheduled breakfast time and left on a hot plate. The eggs were always hard and rubbery, butter rock hard. The coffee was prepared in advance too but ran out on two out of the three mornings but no one refilled it. One morning Paul (one of the hosts) told me I could make more myself, as he walked through the room to his office,but when I checked the coffee jar was empty. Zenia was nowhere to be found. On our last morning there were a lot of guests so not enough room to sit at the table. I waited twenty minutes until there was room to sit so of course there was no coffee left. No host anywhere to be found. 3. Paul was always in his office right next to the breakfast area and had online meetings where his voice could be heard very loudly the whole morning. The office needs soundproofing. It’s not pleasant for guests. 4. Our room hadn’t been cleaned properly. We discovered a half used bar of soap in our shower and the bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied. We didn’t discover these things until the second day and unfortunately there was no host to talk to about it. We gave up trying. We usually love staying in B&Bs and enjoy meeting our hosts and learning about the area but this didn’t happen here. This place had more of an impersonal feel. But it could improve as the house is lovely. Hosts - just use AI and ask how to be a good host. It’s all there online.

• Ann (6/5): We stayed one night to see if we’d recommend others to stay there when they visit Gabriola, maybe - Convenient to where we were ultimately staying We booked a room with 2 queen beds and were given another room and when we commented, they said they did not have time to make up that room. We arrived at the time we had been told, but breakfast was sparse, no juice, no one around to help, no labels on gluten free bread, just 2 warm eggs, warm oatmeal and overdone bacon and no decaf coffee. When we left, they didn’t ask us about our stay or whether anything could have been improved.

• Rositsa (10/5): Perfection - This place is truly exceptional. The design is stunning, and the cleanliness is absolutely impeccable. Breakfast was a real highlight (homemade hash browns!). What stood out the most, though, was the incredible attention to detail and care the owners have poured into every aspect. It’s the perfect spot for a short getaway or a longer vacation. Very spacious and with several sitting zones, even with a big group, it would not feel crowded or cramped. The hosts were incredibly kind, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming. From start to finish, we felt comfortable, appreciated, and completely at home. Nothing, it was perfect.
