- Janet (7/5): Excellent base for a fantastic weekend - Very close to the Piece Hall
Host was exceptionally helpful and kindly posted my shoes left behind - promptly and with no expectation of payment. Many thanks to him for that! Hard to find at first (Next to the Chapel of Rest) and at top of steel staircase. We struggled to locate but the host directed us. Host was extremely helpful.
- Deborah (1/5): Very Bad - The location was the only good thing about this apartment, in terms of its distance to the peace hall. However, it is on a very 'rough' street. When we asked a local to point us the right direction they warned us to have our wits about us when returning late at night. And then it just got worse. When we arrived there were three men still working on the apartment. One painting, one putting down the stairs carpet and one fixing the oven, even though it was an hour after check in time, so we just had to drop our bags and go back out. One made a comment about not being able to find a cleaner and I didnt think about it until we got back, I had presumed they were waiting to clean it until they had completed the work but they obviously had just not bothered, it was dirty. There was a bath with a shower over it but no shower curtains or anything. I attempted a bath on the morning and there was no hot water, at all. The flush button on top of the toilet didnt work so we had to lift the top off of the cistern to flush it. Would not stay here again and would not recommend it.
- MK (3/5): Dirty and scruffy - Many problems, firstly the carpets are very dirty and could do with a serious carpet clean , the throw over the sofa was filthy and had not been washed in a long time , bathroom needs an urgent upgrade , the toilet seat in the bathroom was hanging off and covered in urine stains not cleaned properly , the bath was held together with sellotape , there was no hot water for the shower or taps and the boiler takes 45 minutes to warm up , the kitchen was lacking in basic cooking utensils , only one decent pan for cooking, overall the apartment was generally tired , dirty, scruffy and outdated

- Asheigh (4/5): Great location wise although above a nursery so noisy midweek. Not very clean. - Excellent location if you’re attending a concert at piece hall Although the bedding and bedroom was clean the downstairs has a strong smell of stale smoke and didn’t feel very clean
- Ashley Staniforth (1/5): Disappointed with Booking.com and the accomodation. - Nothing. Before going into detail about our cancelled accommodation, we think it fair to mention that the proprietor gave us a full refund. Also, that Booking.com appears to distance itself from any issues relating to accommodation when there are problems – citing itself as merely a platform to enable two parties to find each other and failing to support the process of getting a refund unless pushed extremely hard. I will not be using Booking.com ever again.
Clare Street was a very untidy place with bins and rubbish all over it.
Several flights of fire-escape stairs up to the property. Not for those who are afraid of heights.
The key safe is over a 4-floor drop.
Sweet, musty smell.
The stair railing at the bottom of the stairs was damaged.
Oversized furniture prevents use of the fridge and a cupboard.
Fleece-covered sofa – visually unpleasant.
Nowhere to put shoes.
Dirty carpets.
Dirty in general.
Fridge door shelf broken.
Dirty, empty provision jars.
Mixed crockery.
No sink plugs.
Junk in kitchen cupboards.
Kitchen top repaired with Sellotape.
No cleaning or drying materials.
Old spiderwebs.
Power extensions off each other and trailing.
Sellotape for bath sealant.
Hair on loo seat.
One bath towel for two. Nothing else.
Prison-feel bars on 4th floor window.
Dirty and faded-paint stair bannister with old holds in wall.
Evidence of bugs found in bed (a live bug, red dots and pale-yellow patches on mattress topper beneath torn bedsheets – and a can of bed bug spray in the cupboard).
The proprietor came quickly and upon seeing evidence of bugs agreed to refund us.
Then there was nothing. No refund and nothing from Booking.com’s Customer Service in reply to my enquiry.
It took many hours’ work to get our refund in the end………….and the grand reveal that Booking.com is akin to Booking.CON.
Goodbye!
- ruth (1/5): an absolutely awful stay, we didn’t want to go back after seeing the band we had come for - absolutely nothing everything, it was disgustingly dirty & smelly, the bedding had not been changed & when the cleaner came to change it she left 2 dirty pillowcases on. The bathroom was disgusting, we didn’t want to stay but there was nowhere else available. bedroom blinds were broken so no privacy with light on & we were woken by the light at 5am. what i have said does not even come close to describing how bad it was
- Gary (4/5): Disappointing - Location good There is no number on the flat door,no street number, very difficult to find the property, was not given any details to access the flat(key code)had to phone around to get some information, eventually a neighbour ended up helping us out, plus it was a very hot day hanging around was the last thing we wanted to do.Bad communication all round, landlord blamed booking. Com.I would have thought landlords responsibility to give us information for access.
- Derek (5/5): Much better, if host puts right the small niggles. - N/A Having the proper key code from booking .com, The front door locking mechanism is not good. It does work, with force.
Wash hand basin, no plug.!!!
- Anne (6/5): Pleasant -
- Winder (5/5): Ok on a budget - I liked the view of the hilltop and how close it was tit eh town centre
Nice big TV with netflix
A fan in the apartment Cigarette burns in blankets
Got locked in bathroom twice as the door handle is broken so had to leave it open when I used the bathroom
Drawers and cupboards need a proper clean
Problems accessing the safe key box which left us soaking wet for the gig we went too, although it was explained there was a emergency which made them late in sending the code. Metal stairs also slippy when wet.
The bathroom wasn't very clean either so felt a little dirty.
Low budget apartment
- Jemma (8/5): Nice little flat, ideal for 1/2nights great location. - Location. Information before check in. Good midweek price for a whole flat. Fresh new towels. All kitchen equipment you need. Wifi and all amenties could ask for. Just one bug bare we Got locked in the bathroom, took alot of strength to open the door. Handle needs replacing. Front door hard to lock also lots of force needed to lift handle.
Maybe a nice touch would be a couple tea/coffee/longlife milk type sachets for a hot drink the next morning only stayed one night would have been handy.
- Dawn (2/5): Would not stay here again - Location near to train station
Hosts let us check in an hour early Whole place stunk of stale smoke even with windows open - host said it hadnt had sufficient time to air as we checked in an hour early but this was old stale smoke so checking in even later would not have made any difference.
Toilet seat kept moving.
Bathroom door kept sticking making it hard to open
Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.
- Alexander (8/5): Very good -
- Callum (7/5): Good -
- Elaine (7/5): Good - Good location.
Good value. Had to climb up a ‘fire exit’ type set of stairs to get to the property.
Smelled of smoke.
- Mihai (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely everything, the hosts are exceptional, certainly when I return to Halifax this apartment has the first option!! I recommend with confidence
- Emma (9/5): Fabulous apartment in central Halifax - Had a wonderful stay at the town centre apartment, communication with the owners was quick and easy. The apartment was easy to find, carpark opposite and could see the car from the living room window! Great facilties, full kitchen and bathroom with bath and shower, huge TVs in the living room and bedroom with smart tv all logged in! Fitted electric heaters to keep the rooms warm and a small dining area, there was plenty of space for 2-3 people.
We visited Halifax for 3 nights and had a great stay. Our only constructive point would be the beds could do with a mattress topper as you could feel the springs (pillows were amazing though!), the bedroom needs a blackout blind or extra curtain as its very bright from 5am, and perhaps a rail to hang clothes in the alcove space in the bedroom as there was no storage at all.
We were welcomed with chocolates and milk in the fridge, and it was spotlessly clean so would definitely return when we are next in the area. Thank you
- Kieron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zeeshaan (9/5): Superb -
- Thomson (2/5): Too many steps - The property was very clean, comfortable With being disabled too many steps to get to the penthouse only reason I took it there was nowhere else in Halifax for me to stay for what I was attending
- Tom (8/5): Very good - location was great and early check in
- Nicola (3/5): Not a great experience - Good location to the theatre, and that's about it. Arrived and couldn't park in the carpark, which was a nightmare. The apartment had a horrendous smell, like a mucky dirty smell which we couldn't get rid of with all the windows open and door. The bathroom wasn't great, the ceiling paint was hanging off, and there was dust and cobwebs round the boiler. The toilet was dirty, and the finishing touches weren't great. There is no lampshade in the bedroom. The light fitting was hanging off upstairs. Holes in the wall from the hand rail being moved. I'm just grateful we were out all day and in the evening.
- Paul (8/5): Theartre visit - Location good for town centre , we went for the theatre but peace hall well worth a visit. Bed was comfy and parking is dead opposite the flat.
There are facilities for cooking (not used) along with 2 large tvs (not used) . Wifi is good and entrance via lock box. The property has large table in front of sofa which makes it hard getting around room. The bedroom blinds rattle all night if you need windows open.
Biggest gripe is that there were no loo rolls which is a pretty basic requirement !
- Gary (7/5): Good budget option for a central Halifax stay - Great location close to the town centre, Victoria Theatre and Piece Hall. Clean and comfortable including the bed. Tea/coffee (though not milk) provided together with cutlery and crockery. Good WiFi. Very frustrating that there was seemingly no way of operating the TV in the bedroom Some small touches would make the flat over eg a light shade for the bedroom ceiling light, a lamp downstairs to offer a different lighting option to full beam from the ceiling lights.
- Basharat (10/5): It had everything you needed - The property was very clean and nice 👌
- Marcus (7/5): Good - Great location, especially if you are planning on heading to the Piece Hall. Really handy having a car park right in front of the building too. Mattress could be better, not uncomfortable but we've become spoilt by having a memory foam mattress at home. Wouldn't be good for people who struggle with stairs as it's up a couple of flights to get in. We were fine though.
- Isabell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Amazing simple as that - Everything such a lovely place comfortable cosy and excellent for amenities wanted it again for 27th of July but booked up go stay there it’s beautiful Only thing is and I’m really scraping bottom of the barrel to make this point is no light at bottom of the stairwell to the apartment
