• Anita (9/5): A very calming and relaxing stay, and the locals were very welcoming. Idyllic for walkers/hikers. - The staff at this guesthouse were very friendly and welcoming, the room was very comfortable and the location was in easy walking distance to everything central and beyond. Nothing. The Shetland Islands was a really wonderful place.Only downside was that my stay was too short.

Good porage, coffee and yogurts.. Excellent location with adjacent bus stops. Easy downhill walk to the town and short walk to the sea. ooms were cleaned very well on request with change of towels.. This is a very good value for money, old-style guest house and was exactly what I was looking for. I slept well here and enjoyed the room. Easy walking to the harbour. Highly recommended. Nothing needed improving for me.

• Cherie (8/5): Super - I was very happy with my single room with shared bathroom, as it had everything I needed. A desk with chair, kettle, wash basin and mirror, bedside table with light, charger, and a place to hang my clothes. There was also a tv in the room. This guesthouse is good value for money. Lots of options for breakfast and friendly staff.
• shelly (6/5): - Location was good, room was warm and a good size. The breakfast was very limited, especially for gluten free options. I added a note to my booking that I require gluten free breakfast but this was not actioned so there was no bread for me on the first day. After that they did provide bread but the options were still quite limited as I could not have any of the cereal. The shower in the room was malfunctioning and often had very low pressure and not much heat. The bed was very small and not comfortable. The room was not cleaned during our stay and there was stuff from previous visitors left in the drawers. There was no staff in the guest house except during breakfast hours, and the breakfast staff did not speak good english, so it wasn't possible to ask for help with any of these issues. The let us leave our bags for a few hours before check in but they were left in a public area and with the front door unlocked so this was not secure and I was not aware this would be the case until I returned.

I am vegetarian and I don't eat eggs so I didn't feel there was much choice for me. I however didn't ask what else they could provide for me so not really fair to expect them to be mind readers.

Amazing breakfast, thank you Eva and Callum for everything! We had the motorbikes with us and this gave us such freedom for our time in Shetland. I can't wait to come back. My dad and I were in the two single rooms. So spacious (more so than the photos!), lovely bathroom and very comfy beds. Nada, nothing, zilch.

• Emily (10/5): Cozy and convenient guest house close to wool week! - The Carradale is really 2 guest houses in one, and it's perfectly located to access all the offerings of shetland wool week. I found it to be a welcome and restful end to 5 weeks of travel. The shower is great, the staff are terrific, and my room was so comfy cozy I had a hard time motivating to leave it. Truly a delightful place to stay.

Great brekky esp' good coffee & porridge, tku Eva x Excellent location, we walked everywhere in the evening in Lerwick, felt very safe. Will definitely return & will recommend to friends (a group of cycling ladies might be interested!) Very sad to leave TBH. We were happy just to have tea tray replenished, towels we were happy to reuse!

It would be nice if they left a little top up basket or similar in the dining room or hall so that guests could help themselves. Sometimes, we would arrive back tired and in need of a large cup of tea, only to find that we had no milk! Just a small point, but a help yourself basket would make all the difference!
• Danielle (9/5): - Very comfortable stay. It is an older building so there are some normal creaks and groans, but overall the building was still very quiet despite being a full house. The room had everything we needed, including a sitting area and a dining table. Breakfast was fantastic with a self-serve selection and eggs/porridge to order, and the ladies serving breakfast were friendly and kind. A couple of additional hooks in the bathroom would have been nice to hang toiletry bags and towels. Also, there was nowhere to put shampoo/conditioner/soap in the shower except the floor.

• Catherinec69 (5/5): Not the best - Good location. The bed was comfy and warm. We were really disappointed with this place. Even arriving the hall and staircase looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in some time. The room was very dated and a strange configuration. But the bathroom was the concern. There was black mould on the edge of the shower tray, and the bathroom bin had hair stuck to the lid in some kind of yellow streak. For some reason there was a square of chipboard screwed to the wall at the side of the toilet - we assumed it was some sort of repair but no attempt to do it properly. It all just felt a bit grotty and uncared for. We'd moved from another hotel in Lerwick after deciding to stay a little longer, which had been fabulous and only slightly more expensive than this place. But the difference in standards and quality was huge. We looked to move and write it off after the first night but unfortunately without paying three times per night for a poorly rated place there were no options. Given concerns about the room, we didn't even attempt the breakfast and went elsewhere despite it being included. On Sunday morning, staff decided to vacuum right outside our bedroom door at 8am - again this didn't seem to evidence any real commitment to customer care and comfort. We absolutely would not use this place again, or recommend it

• Donna (10/5): Great location, great stay - The location was great, really easy to get into the centre of town, close to the bus station so the whole island was in reach of you are relying on public transport. The single room with en suite was clean and comfortable, though in need of a little tlc. The breakfast was great, there was plenty of choice, and the staff were lovely.

• Christine (10/5): A truly comfortable stay in a quiet but central location - After spending the night in a pod on the ferry I was ready for a good night sleep. Thankfully Carradale had the most comfortable bed I think I’ve ever slept in. The room was clean and cozy and staff were friendly and welcoming. Location is very central so getting around on foot was easy.

• Kathrin (4/5): Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis nicht in Ordnung, keine Willkommenskultur in diesem Haus!!! - Die Lage war gut, der Frühstücksraum sah sehr gemütlich aus. Die ungarische Angestellte war die ersten Tage für alles alleine verantwortlich, war trotzdem sehr freundlich und ihr Kaffee war super! Die Wäsche war immer sauber!!! Ein Aufenthaltsraum fehlte. Der einzige Stuhl in meinem Zimmer war ein Sessel mit Holzbeinen, die alle locker waren. Konnte mich gerade noch vor einem Sturz retten. Im Bad funktionierte die Lampe über dem Waschbecken nicht, der Toilettendeckel hatte einen mindestens 10cm langen Sprung, der Kaltwasserhahn ließ sich nur mit Mühe auf-bzw. zudrehen. Dir Tür zum Bad sollte durch einen Magneten verschlossen werden können, funktionierte nicht! Habe all diese Fakten "einer Angestellten" gegenüber geäußert, es stellte sich heraus, es war die Mutter des jungen Besitzers, die meinte, sie können nichts reparieren, wenn die Gäste nichts sagen. Generell fehlte ein warmes Willkommen des Besitzers, den ich nur einmal am Abreisetag sah, als er seiner Mutter beim Frühstück half und überfordert schien!
