Guest Reviews
- Van Der Sluys (8/5): Very pleasant experience of a staying on a dairy farm. - Rooms very comfortable and kitchen utensils very good and a very nice touch with fresh milk, bread and butter. Hot tub was a pleasant experience. Boma braai a bit challenging could be better with a barrel braai. Many flies to contend with however it is a dairy cattle farm and therefore understandable.
- CHRISTOPHER (7/5): - Comfortable house It does say it is a stay on a farm, but the house is right in the middle of the dairy cows' mustering paddock.
You have to like being very close to a lot of cows.
- Cobus (9/5): Awesome stay! Ideal for a family ! - Spacious, clean, extremely well equipped, good coffee, rusks, a gorgeous bread…. Too much to mention Nothing
- Jenanda (10/5): - Melkhout is n the perfect break away, with everything you need.
- Pelle (9/5): -
- Bakker (6/5): - De mooie locatie De hottub was vies. En de vliegen van het vee, maar dat is onoverkomelijk dus acceptabel.
- Albertus (9/5): We had a comfortable albeit short stay. - The property is comfortable and as advertised. It is well equipped and the outdoor hot tub was a bonus. It is centrally located in the Robertson Valley with easy access to the wine farms and local towns. We did not appreciate that it was located directly next to a sizeable dairy.
- Sophia (9/5): -
- Leah (10/5): What a stunning stay! We loved every bit of our weekend at Melkhout. We will be back! - Perfect location. Quiet and peaceful.
- Stephen (10/5): absolute pleasure to stay there - hot tub
4x4 trail
milk
bread
butter a little bit exposed to staff
could have more firefighters
4x4 trail needs to be maintained a bit better
- Sanet (10/5): Loved everthing! - Beautiful cottage. We loved the cows. The bread, butter and milk that was provided were delicious, thank you so much.
The hot tub was also a treat.
Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
- Walbrugh (10/5): Mint condition & immaculate farm stay - Loved all the facilities/appliances, especially the electric blankets on all the beds. Everything was new, spotless & pristine. Could perhaps provide some/little wood for the fireplace. Maybe just a welcome w/app message & mention time to check out, didn't see time for checking out when I made booking.
- Elsa (10/5): Beautiful cottage on working farm - A wonderful cottage, perfect location.Kitchen stocked with all essentials and more! Fresh creamy milk was the best Absolute nothing
- Alison (9/5): Superb - Beautiful house and great views. Dam nearby, mountains in the distance We had electricity issues for a day but that was an Eskom issue. The hosts were alert and provided what we needed, the stove/oven was gas and the gas could be activated with a lighter which was provided. All text messages were responded to immediately - great communication. So what I didn’t like actually was what I did like. Lots of flies because cows are part of the farm. But there are fly screens and warnings about keeping only screen covered windows open. Walking in the property, we found that the fly issue is only relevant to the farm cottage.
- Sarah-jane (9/5): A beautiful farm stay that was perfect for our whole family. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Melkhout - The house was beautiful, from the furnishings to the location it was all stunning! Elzette was excellent with communication and made sure we were comfortable. Thank you. There was nothing we didn’t like, it was all wonderful! Although sometimes the flies could get annoying but that’s to be expected when you are staying on a working farm.
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Melkhout is set in a beautiful location on a dairy farm but you have full privacy without any disturbances. It was fully fitted out with everything you need for a hassle free breakaway. Love the little touches of farm produce in the cottage from the owners. Nothing in particular
- Grace (10/5): Amazing stay with gorgeous views - The cottage was absolutely lovely decorated, clean, and with the most beautiful views! - all was perfect.
- Tayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raquel (10/5): A more relaxing and perfect stay you will not find. A little slice of heaven! -
- Jerome (9/5): An absolute pleasure to stay in such a place were much thoughtfulness has gone into make it perfect. - Everything Nothing
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ralph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leanne (10/5): Just fantastic - Beautifully kept. Everything you need is here. Secure garden and loved the hot tub and sitting under the huge pepper trees. The sounds of the Jersey cows are so peaceful and they are wonderful to watch. Nothing
- Francois (10/5): Exceptional -
- Divaksha (8/5): Very good -
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Lynette (9/5): It was a peaceful and relaxing stay..highly recommended - Too many to mention. The fresh milk and butter in the fridge.
Bread and eggs on the kitchen table upon arrival.
Beautiful linens and towels. An extremely peaceful and relaxing country stay. A table for drinks and snacks in the tv area would be nice. But everything else was provided for.
- Charlie (8/5): Beautiful stay! - Cosy, homely cottage with a SPECTACULAR view. Sunrise/sunset we greatly looked forward too! We were unsure on what our view would be and took a chance in hope it was beautiful. It truly was! A mountain range view across the farmland.
Very comfortable, clean and the hosts kindly leave fresh milk, butter and bread. Very much appreciated for these generous tokens. The milk was DELICIOUS!
Well stocked kitchen with your essentials.
The bathroom was very tastefully decorated!
We absolutely loved our stay and wished we could have stayed for longer. We were confused with the photos in the listing as we didn’t realise the photos on booking.com are of two separate houses. So we were expecting a different layout and styling. We were a first disappointed with the confusion but soon fell in love with this cute cottage.
The flys were an issue but this is not the hosts fault and whilst being on a working farm we expected them. But if flys annoy you this could be something to take note of. We didn’t use the jacuzzi or sit outside much because of it.
- Suzanne (10/5): We had a lovely stay at Melkhout Guest Farm. The Farm Cottage had everything we needed and more! -
- Bremner (10/5): You will not regret it . - Just lovely and well presented the bathroom the kitchen the bed all were great Would have liked to have met the owners felt a little impersonal. But that’s probably just me , I like people
- Adri-marie (9/5): Superb - Loved it! We will for sure make another booking in future. Real working farm, such a beautiful view and the house is so tastefully decorated with great attention to detail.
- Andre, (10/5): Breathtaking home in a breathtaking setting! - We loved EVERYTHING about this property!
The cottage is so well equipped and beautifully furnished and decorated.
Stunning extras like freshly baked bread and farm butter, rusks, coffee, etc. just made our stay even more amazing!
Comfortable beds, luxury linen and towels, peaceful setting, kid friendly - stunning view of the mountains through the kitchen window.
We will be back!
- Irina (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is perfect! Exceptionally clean, great design, amazing location. I love it!
- Nathalie (10/5): A quiet clean comfortable cute cottage farm - It was clean, bed was comfortable. Nicely decorated and well furnished. Small touches like a complementary loaf of ciabatta was much appreciated and tasty. Nothing come to mind
- Marique (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karmen (10/5): Tranquil, very cottage core in the best way - Beautiful house, amazing decor! Its on a farm, so it smells a little like that but there is a lot of things to improve that
- Alex (10/5): Lovely - Lovely place to stay. Clean and well maintained with some thoughtful touches. It was a last minute booking but they still managed to have everything ready and a welcome Ciabatta on the table. Quite a long dirt road to get to the farm - manageable with a normal car but worth noting.
- Desiree (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carey (10/5): Relaxing family weekend away. - We absolutely LOVED everything about the cottage and the farm lifestyle. The little touches of fresh bread, butter and super delicious farm fresh milk added to the welcoming farmstyle feeling. Elzette and Henk are warm and welcoming hosts. Elzette has provided top end finishes in all the bedrooms, kitchen and stunning bathroom. Missing this fabulous accommodation already and setting up another weekend away soon. Thank you to the both of you. The visit was just too short 😢
- Magda (6/5): Pretty cottage but too close to cow shed. Flies and smell really bad - The cottage is beautiful. The decor is well thought out and everything you need is at the house. The cottage is right next to the cow shed and the milk parlor that starts at 5 am in the morning. The flies were the worst. They were everywhere. The smell from the cow paddocks was also really bad. Cow dung everywhere. Can’t open windows.
