Guest Reviews
- COLIN (9/5): Very homely cottage - Very homely and the owner visited as soon as I had a problem ! The weather šš
- Daniel (10/5): - Just imagine for a moment 5 burly men on a motorbike weekend tour of the lake District. Then imagine how a perfect location could exist to accommodate these fully grown men who require their own separate beds each. Then imagine where these men could park their motorcycles securely. Then these men needed feeding so a cafe nearby was required. They also needed a roaring fireplace for when the weather turned and they could dry their motorbike gear and also watch a huge TV to chill with access to all the latest smart TV channels. There are also three very comfy armchairs, a rocking chair and a sofa to relax in, so that was great for them. Then a fully fitted kitchen when one decides to show off his cooking skills. You're kinda getting the idea.
The only criticism was that there is no pub within easy walking distance, but that's not down to the cottage's fault.
On a serious note we would have liked to have had a bigger pot to Cook pasta for 5 men. That's the only downside. Thank you cottage for looking after us and keeping us super comfy, warm and cosy, we'll miss you. Small cooking pot
- Sohail (1/5): Bad experience - I just left the property next day because of issues like no heating no hot water I have been there with my kids we suffer hard that night I need my money back I just stay there for one night only
- Gillian (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely spacious cottage. Had everything we needed and more. Nothing
- Susanne (10/5): Very comfortable and nice nights in with plenty of board games and books within the property - Cosy and very comfortable lovely open fire and a very large property plenty of space for children and dogs
- Kate (9/5): Our 2nd stay here , we will be back. Very helpful host. - Location, size, coziness, open fire, good value.
- Smith (10/5): -
- esther (9/5): - Very clean, lots of space, well equipped kitchen.
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Lucy (9/5): Perfect for a short stay. - Easy access in a calm location. The L shaped room was awkward for a couple who was expecting a Futon, but both other rooms were perfect and easy to reorganise for comfort. The complimentary biscuits and milk were appreciated and we only needed one extra toilet roll and some hand soap as the provided ran out. The TV was amazing and had loads of options for me to log into, and the replacement fridge they let us know about prior was honestly better than the built in one - with tonnes of storage space. Super close to the beach but can be very chilly!!! Although spiders are very likely and unavoidable in a place like this, there were plenty of dead ones in drawers and on display when we arrived that couldāve been cleaned. Cobwebs common. It says thereās a firewood fee in the booking but there were only a couple small logs there when we arrived, but we didnāt mind so much and we didnāt plan on lighting it.
- sarah (10/5): Lovely cottage great location - Lovely cottage everything you need Nothing to dislike
- sophie (9/5): - We came on boxing day and there were Christmas decorations up, which was a lovely surprise for our children. It was also nice and warm throughout our stay and there was plenty of wood for the fire. The beds were really comfortable and the shower was great as well. We ended up arriving later than planned and really appreciated the fresh milk in the fridge, as well as the coffee and tea supplied! Our girls also had a great time looking through all of the children's books and there was a bed guard so my youngest was safe in the bed. We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend the cottage to families with children. (Although we did decide to block the top of the stairs with a stool, as there is a stair chair lift which seemed like it might be a trip hazard in the dark!) All was fine though, but something to keep in mind if you have toddlers! I was really impressed that there were shampoo and conditioner despensers in the shower, but the conditioner needed refilling before our stay :)
- Jeanie (10/5): - The cottage is beautiful and quaint. All facilities worked perfectly and the small extra touches were lovely. Huge amounts of space to have quiet time and the fireplace is an absolute winner. Nothing at all to complain about except the fact we could not stay longer.
- Stevens (10/5): Great cottage, - Open fire, and the host was friendly and helpful. Loved it all.
- Paula (10/5): Quiet break away - Peaceful big house with friendly neighbours Nothing to not like
- Sarah (9/5): Fantastic will be re booking. - Felt very cosy and homely, lovely and warm.
Comfy beds Very clean. Everything you need in the house for your stay.
- Katrina (8/5): Lovely little cottage - Lovely location very spacious towels and bowls left for dogs lovely open fire
- Marie (9/5): For the money it was a great stay. It's a home from home. - Very cosy and homely. Host had good communication. Very quiet. Everything you need and more.
Haverigg is a lovely beach. Muncaster castle is worth a visit. The cafe 5 mins away is good for breakfast. Miliom has a tescos not far away. It's a bit of a drive to everything. The beach at bootle was nice to look at but they use it for the MOD to practice so we didn't go on it.
There's a few things we should have done... like go on the little ratty which we never had time for.
The garden of the cottage was my favourite for having a brew in the morning. I'm a bit ocd and also clean houses for a living ... so for some people they might not notice....but some attention to detail on the cleaning would probably not go amiss. Especially the kitchen.
- David (9/5): Very spacious and well equipped, good value - A surprisingly spacious and well equipped house. Very traditional inside but we liked that. A bit further out from the main lake district attractions but that has both pros and cons being in a less touristy area. Very competively priced vs alternatives. We would definitely return if revisiting the lakes and would recommend it. There were some noisy overnight roadworks right outside the property for two nights of our stay. This obviously won't normally be the case for other guests but it would have been better if the host had warned us in advance.
Not a dislike as such but a warning to parents with younger kids that the front door opens directly onto the main road, so be careful.
- Erika (8/5): Great and comfortable stay in Lake District - It was big enough to accommodate everyone, pets were allowed. It has a nice garden for bbq. It is close to the sea. Quite a good location and has a very nice pub 10 mins drive away. Had everything we need and a fire place was nice to have. Parking is very close even though not on the property itself. Easy to find and navigate around. Nice host, very quick to reply to any questions and ready to help if needed. Not a complaint as it didnāt affect our stay much, but a little outdated in the kitchen. Could do with an update to pots and pans and cutlery. The flies were a bit of an issue, maybe the sticky tape to catch them would be good idea.
- Lisa (8/5): Hidden gem - Beautiful cottage , had everything you could think of āŗļø looks small from the outside then opens up into a lovely spacious lounge with an open fire so cosy at night . The kitchen is massive with a lovely view of the garden. 3 very good sized bedrooms with plenty of towels. Garden was beautiful and both my dogs loved exploring all the different paths. The village itself is charming and a handy little shop about 2 minutes away. We followed the sign for the beach and had a cracking day exploring the rock pools , highlight was meeting the friendly herd of cows . Grizedale forest was a fabulous walk ( about 45 mins by car) lots to do and explore. We would definitely stay here again thank you for having us x No complaints
- Smith (10/5): highly reccomend - lovely property - The beds were comfortable and the property was lovely. great little cafe minutes away. nothing
- Roy (9/5): Overall a lovely cottage could do with an upgrade - Very homely cottage nice garden easy to find Traffic noise with loose manhole cover that rattles no potato masher in with the utensils and the cooker hob should be condemned as it is borderline dangerous and the front door lock is on the verge of breaking.
- Gill (10/5): Absolutely loved it! - Olde worlde feel, loads of space, fully stocked kitchen , lovely garden space, comfortable and cosy Nothing really, just minor niggles like the soap canisters in the shower were empty and there were a few flies in the kitchen when we arrived.
- Kate (8/5): We loved our stay, the dogs did too. We would definitely stay again. - The size, well equipped and comfortable. Close to a good dog walking beach.
Friendly owner who kindly left us some sweet treats , my daughter enjoyed using them for her Easter egg hunt . The patio area and garden need some work, which I believe the owner is working on. Lots of lovely spring flowers blooming. We enjoyed sitting in the sunshine one evening.
- Clair (8/5): Perfect base for exploring- good for families - Great location for Scafell Pike/Wastwater. Stayed here with my husband, 2 children, parents & their dog. Plenty of space, comfortable beds no complaints from anyone.
Parking was good just a few metres up the road in the car park. Not much going on in this village but perfect location for all the tourist attractions.
- Prabhakkaran (9/5): Superb -
- Clare (9/5): Superb - The cottage was very comfortable, with easy parking. The host was easy to get hold of if we needed them. Nothing to dislike.
- Geoff (8/5): Lovely, spacious 3 bed house in Bootle - House was very clean, plenty of extras (biscuits, milk, soap), load of spare blankets, towels etc. Deceptively large, high ceilings and good size rooms. Beds were comfy enough, nice warm duvets. Position near the Byre is great, short walk to the village shop. Great views out the back too, and a nice garden space, though we didn't get to use it in Feb! It was cold, it's an old house and it was Feb, but yeah, we were cold. The broken (kind of repaired) tiles around the bathroom sink were a risk for kids. The shower was tricky to get to the right temp and super low pressure.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - Lovely large house, bed was incredible! So so so comfortable. Hosts informed us of road works and how to avoid if needed which was helpful.
Plenty of utensils and cooking equipment, lovely set up. Location was very out of the way for main lakes and attractions, few towels smelt little damp and looked liked dog hair was on sofa throw. But none of this affected our stay.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darren (10/5): What I lovely stay. The cottage as got plenty of character itās old which what we wanted. Everything was there what you - Very old cottage. Lovely stone cottage very spacious. Very cosy and wood fire very cosy. Spoke to the owner as well she was most helpful. It was a lovely stay really enjoyed our stay. Will be returning soon in the New Year. Nothing it was perfect.
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional - Every about the cottage loved it
- Pamela (6/5): Pleasant - Very easy to find. Very roomy. nice patio area. Seating comfortable. clean. Nice and quiet, despite being on a 'main' road. We knew the cottage was cheaper than most in Lakes, so weren't expecting perfection but I would expect to find some washing up liquid and j-clothes. Thankfully the one-stop shop is only a couple of minutes up the road. Never had that happen before. Really didn't like having the stair lift in situ. A powerful torch, easily accessible would be beneficial for power cuts (experienced for about 3.5 hours on our first night).
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Farrukh (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (9/5): Comfortable and relaxing cottage with easy access to the western Lake District and towns. - The garden is lovely, and there are several places to sit and drink in the atmosphere. Sparrows, house martins and goldfinches were nesting and we really enjoyed watching them. The house is well equipped with spare towels and bedding - just like a home. There is a wealth of tourist information in the living room. The wifi works very well in the house, except for the kitchen. Although Bootle is a tiny village, there is a shop close by that sells most essentials, and has a post office as well. The house is on a main road, so people in the front two bedrooms found the noise in the morning a bit of a problem.
- Richard (9/5): Very pleasant stay in good location - Cosy, good location, good facilities Nothing
- Nay1983 (10/5): Excellent stay. - The quaint cottage was perfect for us as a couple but equally if we had brought the kids. Loved the open fire and the rooms were clean with everything you could need. Nothing to report.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and spacious, and very comfortable to live in.
- Rumen (10/5): Nice for a quiet holiday. - A great quiet place for a family holiday. The cottage is quite large and it's cosy. Has a lovely fireplace and everything you need to feel at home. There is a nice garden where the children can play. There is a cafƩ 2 min. away.
- Brian (10/5): Beautiful peace and quiet - Loved the peace and tranquillity of the area the property was great Loved everything
- Lauretta (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Nice homely cottage with everything you need. Clean and well presented. Great fireplace and lovely garden for dog. Road noise
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely cosy cottage that really is like a tardis. It looks small from the outside, but it goes on and on.
Plenty of cupboard space everything you need is here in this cottage. Nothing
- Kathryn (10/5): Old World Charm - Perfect! - Like stepping back in time in all the best ways! Very well equipped, cosy and quaint cottage with old world charm in a perfect location with hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Nothing!
- Dawn (9/5): We actually ended up staying an extra night as we were having such a lovely time. - Location was spot on for us! There wasn't anything.
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the peace and quiet .great house.everything was there for a great stay.very clean house.will be back Nothing
- Paulina (10/5): Very cosy and clean cottage, great and helpful owner:) -
- Phil (10/5): Perfect for the south western lakes .Eskdale a train ride away from Ravenglass and Wasdale a short drive - The log fire.
- Jorge (7/5): Good -
- Lewis (9/5): Superb -
- Bhakti (9/5): Superb -
- Angela (8/5): Pleasant and some the job - The place is huge so would be good for large groups/families.open fire if you fancy as well as central heating which is a bonus.nice wee garden with sitting out area which was good.met owner who was friendly and new to this I think !! Slowly upgrading and modernising so needs time to do this !!Shower was great .everything you need even if things need updating Tv could have been bigger.could have been cleaner and bin wasnāt emptied which caused a lot of flies first few days but luckily found glue spray which did help ,and yes now that we have spoken to owner know it has not long been bought but could have been told in advance about a few things thatās need to be done !!
- Fiona (8/5): Lovely cosy cottage .

- Aleksander (10/5): Wonderful stay - Lovely cottage! We had a really nice stay. We made a couple of trips to the Lake District and to the sea coast, the nature is stunning. - You can park the car by the Byre cafe, but it would be nice if we had this information beforehand.
- Janet (10/5): Brilliant - disabled & non disabled welcome - Lovely Host - Everything - lots of room inside & lovely space outside - lovely neighbours to chat too Nothing - it had all the little extras - a stairlift & rise & recline chair - grab rails

Feel like at home
