Guest Reviews

- Jurate (8/5): - The owners do they best to welcome guests, but nobody speaks English, which brings difficulties to communicate. Their daughter Ana tries via Google translate. I wish her to improve English. Food was good and tasty, we appreciate the efforts of the cook.
Facilities are very simple, but clean. Their boat is not suitable for longer trips, so be aware, if you want to go to Piaynemo for example. Anyhow, I am grateful to Arnes and his wife to accept us on the same day reservation. They were our rescue, because other homestay cancelled on arrival day. Communication is difficult, nobody speaks English.
- Magalie (10/5): - I had an amazing stay at Efenli Arnes Homestay - the location is beautiful, and the staff is so helpful and kind. The reef right outside the homestay was great for snorkeling, and Arnes also took us on a snorkeling tour to Cape Kri and Friwen Wall which were amazing spots. It is a warm and convivial atmosphere with other travelers, I wish I had stayed longer!
- Ella (10/5): Amazing, can't recommend enough - Great, charming homestay on Gam Island. I found the place to be very clean, tastefully decorated and the food exceptional (best food I had in my three weeks in Indonesia so far: fresh fish caught by our host, Arnes, and grilled to perfection with a multitude of healthy and delicious side dishes cooked up by Lina). A peaceful haven with beautiful views, yet ideally located to reach the nearby dive centers. 100 % would come again if I could. Terima kasih 🥰 + 10 points for the cute puppy Nothing I didn't like !! If anything, I would have maybe enjoyed a hammock on our terracs to rest and admire the sunset
Terima kasih Arnes e Lina!
- Rik42 (9/5): Authentic - Authentic homestay experience in a little paradise. True to its homestay nature, bullt by the owners themselves who manage the facility, it is basic but spectacular at the same time. The location is right next to a nice beach few steps from a nice housereef and a couple of minutes (at low tide) from an even more amazing beach (not to be missed, ask Arnes for how to reach it), while behind is the tropical forest (a kuskus is a regular night guest). The bungalow is comfortable (the sound of waves can be noisy for light sleepers, but it wasn't the case for us) although the bed is a bit small, the place is nicely decorated with shells and plants. Bathroom facilities are basic but kept clean. Meals (lunch and dinner in particular) were great (Arnes is a fisherman so we had super fresh and delicious fish). The owners don't speak much English (which was not an issue for us as we speak indonesian), but their daughter who is reachable on WhatsApp does. Arnes can provide also snorkeling tours around with is boat.
For us it was a great stay, of course knowing its pros and cons.
- Allan (8/5): Very good - Lovely family. Very very helpful.
Amazing food.
Good for snorkling.
Nicely decorated balcony at the bungalow 😊
- Carin (9/5): We highly recommend this place. We had a couple of fantastic days. - The location was great, the host family was exceptionally nice and helpful. It was a quiet place, no disturbing music. We loved to stay there.
- Barbara (8/5): Very good - We had a wonderfull reception. We were well taken care off during our stay. The food was amazing and plentifull. It is a very quiet a beautifull place. Ideal for someone who wants to enjoy nature and all it’s life forms. Very simple accomodations, yet confortable and enough for our needs.
- Susanne (9/5): We loved our stay at Efenli. Arnes and Lina were super kind and the food was amazing. The house reef is stunning. A true -
- Rosie (10/5): Exceptional - The homestay is idyllic and secluded. We were right on the water, the porch is nicely decorated, there's a table and chairs so in the evenings we could easily play cards. In the day, if we weren't diving with Corepen (they come and collect you and drop you off), we would snorkel on the coral reef in front of the homestay which is fantastic! We saw a turtle, ray, squid, clown fish, a shark etc. All three meals are included and Lina's cooking is amazing. We would eat fresh fish everyday. Portion size is very generous so you won't be going hungry. Lina and Arnes are so kind and gentle hosts we couldn't recommend this more. Their English is very limited so just make sure you download a translator app if you don't have data (there's no WiFi). The amenities are basic and you get electricity from around 6:30pm-10:30pm but for us, this only added to its charm. When we passed other homestays, we were always grateful for picking Efenli.
- Kelly (10/5): Wonderful stay in paradise - This place was such a hidden gem. The family running this place is so lovely and caring (thank you Arnes, Lena, & Anna). They were so sweet & even took our laundry inside when it was raining / tidied our bed one day. They also came out and helped look for our sandal that fell into the water at night (miraculously recovered in the morning). For a simple Papuan housing structure, it was decorated beautifully with seashell curtains on the patio as well as shells lining the entire dock. There was a sand path to the toilet / dining area which was raked clean everyday.
The food was incredible and they were able to cater to my vegetarian diet while still providing excellent fish-centered meals for my partner. Massive portions. A little spicy for me but doable …but I also do not have much tolerance for spice.
Going in, I was concerned about the toilet and “dip Mandi” shower but they ended up having a real shower head & European style toilet.
The location is very lovely - we were alone in a bay that was clean, had beautiful turquoise water, and a lovely reef. We were also within 3 km of Tarzan Diving so they were able to pick us up in the mornings for dives.
The host does not speak English but we were able to translate with google & their daughter, Anna. Nothing!
