Guest Reviews
- Timaru (2/5): We would not stay there again as we felt very uncomfortable. - The bedroom was sunny, the bed was very comfortable, and the house was warm. We didn’t like sharing the house with the host who spent most of the time watching tv in the lounge while we were there. The only privacy we had was in the bedroom which was very small. Our bathroom was across the hall from our bedroom meaning there was little privacy after a shower.
The bathroom looked as if it had not been cleaned after the previous guests as the soap was still in the shower and the hand basin was soapy where it had been used.
Cleaning throughout the kitchen and dining room was also minimal.

- Christine (9/5): A relaxed stay in a homely environment. Would highly recommend. - The friendliness of the host, Harvey. He went out of his way to explain how things worked and to make sure my stay was relaxed and trouble free. The bed was clean and comfortable, and I slept well. It was great to have Gunner around.
- Cooze (10/5): -
- Pat (8/5): Enjoyable, Thank you - Good - just what we needed
- Tony (6/5): -
- Jeanette (7/5): - Harvey was an excellent host. It's a room in a shared house.
- Kate (9/5): Great place - feels like home - Harvey and Gunner are really friendly and conversation is super easy. Nothing
- Kaye (10/5): Due to having been to a funeral I found Harvey's hospitality kind, considerate and thoughtful. - Location was perfect, close to where I was socializing that evening no complaints.
- Nicole and Thomas (1/5): Never stayed no privacy - Location wise would is ok Not knowing that we were sharing a home with the owner including his dog and it was not mentioned in the advertising of the property sharing accommodation or BNB. We did not stay as we felt uncomfortable sleeping next to the owner’s bedroom and felt we had no privacy. If it was advertised as bnb or sharing we would not of booked. 🙁 some may not have a problem but we like our privacy. Booking.com has been contacted as we believe it is misleading information
- Anthony (8/5): - Value for money, perfect for a solo traveling and Harvey owner and gunner the dog great hosts .
- Barbara (10/5): - Warm and welcoming
- Kyle (10/5): A tidy and comfortable stay with clean facitities. - Harvey and Gunner were great hosts. I found myself having a good chat over dinner and a beverage which capped off my already rad trip. No complaints at all.

- Dennis (9/5): A great Air bnb only a few minutes drive from central Kaiapoi, with a friendly hospitable host. - Harvey was a friendly, generous and hospitable host. Our room had it's own dedicated bathroom, as well as our having full use of the kitchen. Great facilities - met our every expectation. Harvey's house was only a few minutes drive from central Kaiapoi, which was ideally situated for our family event. No problems that we identified.
- Ewan (10/5): - The host could not have been more welcoming. The property, bedroom and bathroom were spotless and exactly what I had hoped for in a Kiwi country town - comfortable and homely, in a lovely garden neighbourhood within walking distance of a wide choice of excellent local restaurants. In the morning, good homemade coffee and great craic with a thoroughly lovely chap to send me on my way.
- Wilma (7/5): -
- Donna (8/5): Very welcoming. Great location -
- Jeff (9/5): -

- Garth (10/5): Just like a home away from home - Harvey is a great host. Very friendly, and helpful. It was just like being at home, old friends chatting over a beer. The facilities were superb, with everything you could wish for. Great wee place to stay in Kaiapoi.
I would stay again if I'm ever back down this way.
- Leighnz (9/5): Superb -
- Desley (5/5): We did not stay due to incorrect advertising.i did not feel comfortable boarding with strangers - I thought this was a motel style but it is more of a homestay. The advertising is very misleading until you read all the comments. I am sure he is a great host but i do t want to share someones house.
- Alan (9/5): Lovely quiet comfy place -

- Nina (8/5): Very good - Loved being able to bring our dogs with us and the location was great for our plans over the weekend.
- Vichaya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - The dog
- Leigh (10/5): Harvey and his best mate Gunner provided me with the best welcome and stay at a time when I - The close location to the Kaiapoi township was ideal. The advertising in Booking.com needs to be more accurate as this is a room in the host’s home and not in a separate unit.
- Christopher (9/5): Great host, quite location. - Great host
- Edward (10/5): Thanks Harvey and Gunner the dog. Very comfortable place to stay after a long drive. Highly recommen - Thanks for great place to stay. Very clean and awesome shower and very comfortable bed. Gunner the dog was very good putting up with Roxy, my dog. Highly recommended.
- Heron (10/5): Great - Harvey and his dog Gunner were fantastic hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
- Tony (7/5): Good -
- Linda (1/5): Very uncomfortable both physically and emotionally. - The dog. The so called unit was just a bedroom in the host's house and a bathroom across the hallway. The kitchen is the host's. I arrived at 6pm, was not invited to join the host in his lounge, so I went to bed. No seating in the bedroom. I paid for 3 nights, left after one. An expensive mistake.v
- Jeremy (10/5): Brilliant home accommodation for easy access to airport. - Friendly welcome from Harvey and his faithful dog, Gunner. Great hospitality in this comfortable, well-appointed accommodation. Easy access to the airport. - All good.
- Katsumi (10/5): Excellent!! - Friendly host, Harvey is so friendly and made me indeed comfortable stay.
- Tommy (10/5): Brilliant had a great time - Was an amazing place to stay Kieth & Gunna the dog were amazing friendly made my partner & I feel so welcome. Would go back & stay again
- Neke (8/5): Felt comfortable and welcome at the house. - Harvey and Gunner were lovely hosts, we were grateful that we could have our dog in the house. It was one night only and we had a lovely warm bed and room Probably to know that it is a room in a house, the description of the property is a bit misleading.
- Lianne (10/5): Exceptional - Harvey and his dog Gunner are the quintessential hosts. Gunner is friendly and so beautiful. He loves my dog too and that makes the stay amazing. Harvey, is too kind, and just a general all round wonderful, kind and caring host. Honestly, it's a clean, safe, quiet and welcoming home. I prefer to stay here and will always return esp as my boy (Charly the kelpie) feels welcome and cared for. WIN WIN Nothing. A great stay. Highly recommend!
- Kelz (10/5): A very homey experience 🙂 - Harvey was a great host & very welcoming. Added bonus was Gunner the doggo (helped us get our doggy fix while away from our own). The bedroom was cosy & clean. The bed was comfy, private bathroom was a bonus.
Enoyed the chat & flat white in the morning before heading back home.
Thanks Harvey & Gunner for your hospitality 🙂 Nothing that Harvey could control
- Lianne (9/5): Best pet friendly accommodation yet! - Harvey and Gunner were brilliant hosts. Even better Gunner and my boy played and got along so well. It was lovely. A very short stay but very wonderful host and enjoyable company. Great space too. Highly recommended. Thank you Harvey and Gunner!!
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adrianus (9/5): all good - Host and dog Nothing
- Cat (10/5): Thoroughly superb - Harvey was a wonderful host, showed me around the area. He has great coffee! I definitely recommend Kaiapoi Village House to anyone looking for a great comfortable safe place to stay, within walking distance of town.
- Wendy (7/5): Convenient location to visit family nearby - Was close to elderly relatives that we were visiting Felt uncomfortable at times sharing Harvey’s home, especially on the Friday night when we returned to the home to find he was having a karaoke session, not good when we had to catch a 6.30am international flight the next morning. We felt the property shouldn’t be available for accommodation bookings on the evenings he wished to entertain friends.
- Rob (8/5): Very good -
- Bronwyn (9/5): Thanks to Harvey (and canine friend) for hosting us for the night! - Harvey is a welcoming and helpful host, thanks Harvey! Gunnar the dog is a sweetheart. Great location at the intersection of two routes upcountry. Kaiapoi river is nice for an evening stroll, and there are a few good places for a nice meal around.
- Ella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Tracey (10/5): Highly recommended - Harvey was a fantastic host, made us feel most welcome into his home. A much added bonus to the stay was Gunna, Harvey's gorgeous dog, such a big sweetheart.
Thank you Harvey for your hospitality, I wouldn't hesitate to come and stay again!
Highly recommended 😊 Having to leave
- Paul (10/5): Harvey and Gunner the dog made us feel very welcome. - Great location for our needs. Lovely cosy surroundings and easy walk to Kaiapoi Township. Nil

- Bel (10/5): A great stay in a warm and comfortable home with a very friendly host. Would highly recommend and would stay again next - Harvey was very welcoming and showed us our room where there was a comfortable bed, clean and fresh linen, and our own bathroom within his own home. Nothing, everything was great
- Jewel (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent and very accomodating host all good
- William (10/5): Great location and hospitality - The host was so helpful and accommodating. The best!
- Sharon (8/5): Nice stay - Comfortable bed, Harvey was nice and friendly The bathroom could have been cleaner.
The bathroom is just outside of the bedroom. Was not a problem for us l just thought l would make people aware of this
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): Satisfied! - The host was attentive and kind A bit further out from Christchurch but nothing Uber can’t fix
- Colin (8/5): Very nice and comfortable place to stay. Very close to Kaiapoi's shopping/restaurants area. - I thought that this place was a motel, but in reality, it was a homestay. The owner/host was very friendly and the facilities at his place were great. He had a large very friendly and well-behaved dog that was very used to seeing/meeting strangers in "his" home. The kitchen and dining room were shared with the host/owner, but he had his house partitioned off for his own private bedroom, etc., so it did seem like for most of the time we had the place to ourselves. Very close to Kaiapoi's shopping/restaurant area, so very convenient. 1. This place was advertised as "Kaiapoi Village House" which I thought was a motel, and so when I was trying to locate this place for the first time, I did expect to see a sign at the front stating "Kaiapoi Village House". The front of the house from the road looks just like any private dwelling which fooled me at first.
2. We like dogs so seeing a large dog there wasn't an issue for us. But that would not be the case for everyone.
3. We needed to contact "Kaiapoi Village House" by phone, but no phone number was available in the advertising/information for this place.
- Lisa (10/5): Kaiapoi Village House Stay - Centrally located to where my Dad needed to be. The house was very well presented. Harvey is a fantastic host. He is very friendly, so welcoming & accommodating. His dog Gunna was very well behaved. Thank you Harvey for a pleasant stay - Joe
- Shar (10/5): Beautiful, clean home, exactly what I needed and highly recommended. Harvey was an awesome host. - Beautiful, clean, handy to shops and motorway.
- De (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shanandore (1/5): Falsely advertising. - False advertisement.
We were given the impression that we would have the place to ourselves, the owner did not inform us that he was also staying so there was no privacy. We did not stay for the two nights and we also should have been given a full refund.
- Malachi (1/5): Bad - place was put up as a 1 room unit didn't no it meant just the room thought it meant a unit, my wife is severely allergic to dogs which there's was a big inside dog. there was no mention of a inside dog then booked, the whole place was very misleading which meant we could not stay there, I asked for a refund and was told no.
- Josephine (10/5): My new go-to when visiting Christchurch! - Harvey was a wonderful host with a lovely home. The room comes with exclusive use of a great bathroom, comfy bed, and own TV. Everything is so clean and tidy, much better experience than a hotel. Easy 15-minute walk into town. Gorgeous dog as a bonus too! Would definitely stay again when visiting Christchurch.
