Guest Reviews
- Caroline (9/5): - A traditional country pub atmosphere in a beautiful location. It was popular early evening, but very quiet at later on. The views were gorgeous. The breakfast - both vegetarian and traditional cooked options - was really excellent. Very nice staff too. Be aware that the New Inn only serves evening meals at weekends. You need to eat elsewhere if you are staying during the week.
- Mary (8/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - Stunning location.
- Crystal (10/5): Beautiful surroundings & beautiful food - Everything was spot on!
The breakfast was exceptional & very friendly staff
- Adrian (7/5): - We were disappointed to be told that they were fully booked for an evening meal. It would have been useful to have either had the opportunity to book a table when we checked in, or at least be told they were fully booked so that we could make plans to eat elsewhere. The Craven Arms were more accommodating even though they too were fully booked, they were able to fit us in for a meal.
- Philippa (8/5): -
- Ady (10/5): Our room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable, which made a big difference to our stay. Breakfast offered a great - We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The location was perfect, making it easy to get around and explore the area. We enjoyed everything
- ShaunaMCG (10/5): - Exceptional service and very comfortable...wonderful view. Everything was perfect
- Richard (9/5): Relaxing and hugely enjoyable. - Gorgeous location. Excellent staff and a magnificent breakfast offering.
- Craig (9/5): Excellent - Beautiful village Nothing
- Rachael (9/5): An absolute gem of a place - Clean, cosy and perfectly located Was hoping for food and busy bar but they stopped serving food on weds
- Janice (10/5): Fabulous đ€© - Staff were amazing, couldnât do enough to help us and nothing was too much trouble!
Fabulous breakfast, my husband said best heâs had anywhere else weâve stayed.
Big, comfy bed.
What more could we ask for. đđđ Nothing
- RUTH (9/5): Excellent - Location wonderful Breakfast fantastic . Friendly staff The room was a little too small
- Claire (1/5): - New Inn contacted us through Booking.com to let us know that the kitchens and catering would be closed during our stay. We asked for a refund because this made our stay intenable. They ignored our attempts to communicate with them by phone, email or Booking.com messages. We discovered on their Instagram account that the property was also going to be partially closed during the time we had booked.
They eventually replied to messages and agreed to a refund but claimed they didn't know how to. And then ignored us completely. We had to go to dispute to get the refund.
An unfortunate situation was made bad by their untrustworthy behaviour.
- Surtees (10/5): Attending a wedding locally, hotel is well positioned, clean, amazing breakfast, would recommend - Fantastic hotel, lovely and welcoming hosts, the breakfast was fresh and plentiful. The views from our bedroom where superb.
- Lynn (9/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Very enjoyable stay in a great location - Rooms, although small, were very comfortable and there was no noise from other rooms or the pub. The breakfast the following day was also excellent.
- David (9/5): Lovely traditional Inn in great location - Friendly staff , lovely traditional Inn, fantastic food .... especially the breakfast đ
Nice size room , comfortable and clean. Only negative is no TV in the room .... but that's just a personal choice.
- Lynne (8/5): Very convenient for the wedding we attended at the Priests House - Lovely location very quiet at night. Easy to find.
- Gordon (10/5): All good apart from the lack of tv - Location and breakfast excellent No tv in the room.
- Sarah (7/5): Lovely location, comfy, information lacking - Location was lovely, near enough to main roads to be handy, but off the beaten track enough to be beautiful...rooms small but comfy beds, very clean, lovely bathroom/shower....price reasonably priced, what you would expect for pub accommodation and breakfast in the stunning dales countryside.. tea and coffee making in the room, bottles of water welcome, selection of toiletries provided... No response to two emails through booking.com in week prior to arrival, had to ring then several times before getting through to enquire about a possible late checkin (after 7pm) we were hoping for 8pm somewhat reluctantly agreed to...If you care.. no TV , WiFi was ok, but no mobile signal..didnt bother us....we we told a couple of days before arrival the chef was sick, no meals, and no breakfast. (Paid already) Of course no problem these things happen, alternative superb breakfast was paid for by the New Inn at a local cafe (the Brownie Barn) a couple of miles off....however we did think it was odd that on both nights of our stay, Friday on our return from getting food at the pub next door (Craven Arms, excellent food btw) the door was locked by 9pm and when we went into the bar (which did still have a few in) our host seemed some what reluctant to serve us...on Saturday night, again we got back about 9.0pm and everything locked and shuttered..seems very unusual to book a pub stay and the pub not to be open in the evening...without explanation..Sunday morning at our 10am checkout everything locked again and no sign of hosts, so left key hung on a hat stand and took ourselves off...just seemed odd...apologies in advance if some family emergency necessarily caused these unusual actions, but if so maybe a note on the door, with a brief explanation would have helped...
- Nicholas (9/5): Wonderful, peaceful stay in the Yorkshire Dales. - Our host was welcoming on our arrival and wonderful at breakfast time. Though the breakfast menu was not vast, the breakfast itself was plenty big enough! Delicious Full Yorkshire, or bacon/sausage sandwich or porridge, with some continental options available on top of that (not literally, obviously!).
Our room was comfortable, with everything needed for a pleasant stay. I actually quite liked not having a tv! The shower was good (fellow guests had apparently struggled to get enough hot water, but we had no such issues).
There's a lovely little lounge off the bar, though we sadly didn't get the chance to use it, as we were out most of the day on Saturday, and returning home on the Sunday.
Views absolutely stunning! Not really sure I'd have changed anything. The breakfast service was unhurried, which I suppose might have bothered some, but, given we were enjoying a holiday weekend, it really wasn't a problem for us!
- Thomas (8/5): - Nice breakfast good selection of cereal and hot menu .
- Natalie (9/5): -
- David (9/5): -
- Robin (9/5): Great location for exploring the Dales and very friendly team - We stayed here as a group for a wedding on a nearby venue. The team were very warm and welcoming and accommodated us all having to get ready. Beds were super comfy and the breakfast was cooked to order with locally sourced foods. The pastry selection was a very nice extra.
- Wardell (10/5): - Amazing breakfast, great service and wonderful location
- Caroline (10/5): Very relaxed - Warm and cosy
We were looked after beautifully
Good food Nothing
- Ailsa (9/5): Great nights sleep. - Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable room. Great en-suite. Food was excellent best cooked breakfast for ages. Great views. No tv in room.
- Mitchell (10/5): Cosy stay with fantastic accommodating staff! - Lovely property and location in the heart of the Yorkshire dales. The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond in accommodating our late arrival. Not a negative but to be aware for guests, given this is a rural location there is limited phone reception in the area - if you need to contact the team, best to do ahead of time
- Lesly (1/5): - Nothing, went home, didn't stay. Didn't like anything about it. Left and went home.
Tiny room. No food available in evening, website said no food Monday and Tuesday. Bar closed at 7.00, so nowhere to sit apart from tiny room. Not enjoyable at all, so we went home.
Breakfast only available at 8.00 to 8.30.
- Clive (10/5): What a great place!! - What a great place with lovely staff Leaving
- Tom (9/5): Beautiful location and friendly owners - Beautiful location, friendly owner and comfy room Nothing
- Kirsten (10/5): -
- Harry (10/5): Fantastic place to stay, highly recommend. - The owners were fantastic they have made the new inn a brilliant place to stay. Welcoming, warm and comfortable place to stay.
- Clive (10/5): Great place! - Warm welcome, great beer, food was lovely and wifi was fast. I would definitely recommend the New Inn! Leaving
- David Mark (8/5): Lovely Stay, very minor gripes - Location is perfect, and ideal for walkers and anyone walking the Dales Way.
Rooms very well appointed with beautiful views, good quality linens and towels, comfortable bed. Bar area is comfortable, car park is handy. Rooms also lovely and warm! Communication with the owners (initially via Booking com) was a bit hit and miss.
Evening meal choice was limited and at 6.30pm on a Saturday they advised they'd run out of steak, which I thought was unusual. Although we'd asked for a table in the bar (email and voicemail) and reiterated verbally on arrival, we were put in the dining room where we sat alone for 15 minutes.
Breakfast was fine but we weren't given a menu and there were glasses on the table (we'd assumed for juice?) but this wasn't offered. I think, that in line with virtually every other B+B it wouldn't hurt to offer something like porridge, yoghurt, fruit, because not everyone wants a full English.
My advice would be to definitely stop at the New Inn for the superb rooms and general high levels of accommodation, but eat at the Craven Arms a couple of hundred metres down the road, with a wider range of food options and it is clearly where the locals drink, great atmosphere.
But the New Inn gets a definite thumbs up from us and we'd stop there again. Thank you.
- Jacqueline (9/5): Ideal location for our needs of attending wedding at The Priests House at Barton Tower. - Comfortable bed, good shower, friendly staff and other customers.
Excellent breakfast.
Lovely old fashioned British pub. There was nothing that we didnât like.
- John (5/5): -
- John (8/5): Comfortable in a fabulous setting with good food and beer. All you could wish for in a rural pub - This property is under new ownership ; itâs a project in development but you can see a very positive intention to develop it. It is basic but clean and comfortable. The chef is excellent and the bar has a selection of cask ales Nothing really. The staff are great and the property is undergoing major change
- Lewis (1/5): Absolute disaster - we were locked out of the inn in the middle of night with no way of contacting the owner. - N/a After attending a wedding in the area, we arrived back at the Inn to a locked building with nobody present to let us in. After calling the emergency number provided multiple times, we were unable to reach the owners and were therefore left in middle of the countryside with no option other than to get a taxi to the nearest hotel and pay for a room there instead (it was 2am at this point). We were neither informed upon check-in that the door would be locked after a certain time, nor that there would be no staff present at the Inn overnight.
Upon arriving back at the inn the following day after the disastrous evening, we were simply told that we should have checked the small leaflet handed to us when we checked in, as that contained the code to the door. Again, this was not made clear to us upon arrival.
Overall, we had a traumatic experience due to being essentially left outside in the middle of the night with no way to get into the building. We werenât even offered an apology for the mishap, nor any form of refund or compensation.
- Graham (10/5): Brilliaaaaaannnnnntttttt!!! - Friendly
Breakfast Nothing
- Ian (10/5): Friendly and comfortable - Beautiful location, friendly staff, lovely breakfast
- Melanie (8/5): Great stay- stunning location - Stunning location. Lovely host. Lovely rooms No gluten free bread despite me emailing beforehand twice to request. Twin room was really small compared to the other 2 rooms we booked.
- geoff (9/5): - Fantastic stay in a beautiful locatin. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
- Tracey (7/5): - Great views and our room was beautiful with a great en suite. Struggled with the shower and insufficient hot water and no heating in the morning.
Unable dine in the evening due to technical problems in the kitchen.
Breakfast ok but no menu and cold choice limited!
Oat milk very watery.....not shaken.
On leaving no staff to check our departure?
- Jean-Pierre (9/5): Superbe ! - Tout !
- Danton (9/5): A lovely, comfortable stay in an idyllic part of the Yorkshire countryside - Room and Bed was very comfortable to stay in after a family Wedding at the nearby Cruck Barn at the Craven Arms, only a short walk away. All topped off with a freshly cooked Full English in the morning. Very welcoming and would stay again if we find ourselves in the area again Main light in the room did have a few cobwebs
- Alison (9/5): Great place to use as a base, comfy beds and excellent food - Hosts were very friendly and happy to help with anything. We had dinner and breakfast, both very tasty and well presented. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk in the room. Beds were very comfy. The pub itself was characterful and lovely. Dog friendly pub, so lots of pooches to say hi to. No TV in room. The village is very small, so not much to do if you don't like walking. Room could do with a little TLC, some paint peeling, wonky light switch, loose floor tile in bathroom..
- Daniel (10/5): Perfect spot right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales the beer was amazing. The food was great. The rooms were cozy. Ev - Firstly the view was absolutely stunning. The food was delicious. The cozy atmosphere wonderful. The staff were amazing. Alexa
Looked after us and kept us entertained. I took my dog and she absolutely loved her time in the New in an Appletreewick.
- Aspinall (10/5): - We had a lovely one night stay here with our dog. The room was small but really cosy and the beds were very comfortable. We had our evening meal here which was delicious and breakfast the next morning was excellent. My husband enjoyed the choice of ales and our dog was kept in supply of treats! We can't wait to return.
- Kim (8/5): Friendly staff and comfortable room and clean room. - Comfortable and clean, the bar was relaxing and cosy.
- Gemma (10/5): We canât wait to go back! - Amazing location, lovely owners, breakfast was delicious and great beers!
- Wolds (6/5): Great location, but some problems! - The bed was large & extremely comfortable. The shower was hot & very efficient.
Location is excellent. This one-night stay was a birthday treat for my wife.
On arrival we checked in with the owner who informed us that the bar & restaurant was closed. As we were eating elsewhere this didnât spoil our plans. However, up until that point we had not been informed that this was the situation.
The owner then informed us that breakfast would be from 8am until 8.30am. As we were the only people staying, the times seemed rather early and inflexible whilst on holiday.
The room was pleasant, however, being the only people staying it would have been nice to have had on of the other rooms with a view of the countryside rather than the car park.
However, the strangest thing was that we had paper cups in the room to use to make tea. They are not pleasant to drink out of, and I do feel that a china mug would have been far more appropriate, considering the price I had paid for the room.
As it was my wifeâs birthday, we asked if it would be possible for us to sit by the open fire in the Snug for her to open her birthday cards, rather than sitting in the room on the bed as there were no chairs in the room. We weâre told ânoâ twice and then the owner relented and said, âAlright, Iâll give you half an hourââŠ
Breakfast next morning was pleasant with an open fire, although an extremely limited choice of cereals, no fresh fruit/yoghurt or choice of fruit juices.
Considering the owners are new, I would have thought that they would be trying to go above & beyond to make a good impression. Sadly, we were not made to feel welcome.
- Alexa (10/5): Just perfect. - The New Inn had a lovely warm feeling with a great view. Alexa and Chris did everything possible to make us feel welcome The fresh cooked breakfast was amazing, we would highly recommend. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay with you. We liked everything about this property.
- Glenys (8/5): Nice one night stay in Appletreewick. - Nice feel in this pub with open fires. The bedroom was spacious and bed comfortable. There is obviously work going on to update this pub so I hope the owners achieve what they are hoping.
- Pete (10/5): Lovely rural location in a lovely village. Great country pub. - Great location and lovely pub with friendly staff Nothing
- Neil (8/5): - Breakfast very nice but I wouldn't rate it as exceptional.
Booked a table for evening meal and was sat directly by toilet door.
No TV in room.
- Stafford (8/5): -
- Paul (6/5): Has potential but too many problems - The staff were lovely, beds were comfortable, room was clean. WiFi didn't work (only a few people can connect as it's a domestic line), TV was also internet dependant. Plumbing was very strange, pipes everywhere. Breakfast was average, ran out of teabags.
Decor was patchy, renovations still ongoing.
- Anne-Marie (9/5): - Lovely room with great views with a really comfortable bed. We ate at the pub and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Would love to come back sometime.
- Margaret (9/5): -
- Richard (7/5): One or two issues..... - Rooms have had a revamp. Good beer. Off the beaten track yet close to the Skipton area attractions. As a solo traveller the lack of a TV in the room had me desperately trying to find entertainment on my phone in the evenings. Another guest said she was in the same situation & attempting to watch Netflix on her phone...
Three days a week there is no evening dinner service, and on another day they apparently had a sold out 8 course meal (never mentioned at check-in). In the 5 days I was there I never got to try a New Inn evening meal (fortunately there are plenty of other decent eateries nearby).
- Deborah (8/5): -
- Kiran (8/5): -
- Peter (10/5): -
- Wiffy (8/5): Step hazzard - Comfortable nice area for walking breakfast nice but funny set up. Step from bathroom no sign or paint on edge, put a pillow on it to remind me it was there. Breakfast set up strange 8 till 8.30 sat down ordered coffee but nothing else until member of staff returned everyone being served at the same time.
- Levente (10/5): A really nice time overall. - Adorable little property. Some clear renovations still ongoing but it's really nice to stay in. Beds are comfortable, amenities are good, multiple choices for breakfast and while I was afraid that I'd leave hungry, it was definitely sufficient and filling. It was all great!
- Sylvia (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Comfy beds and everything I needed - Great food in the restaurant, although service was slow. The room was perfect. It had everything I needed with a very comfy bed. Lovely little spot. Would definitely stay again. Decor needs some TLC in parts, but still a great place to stay
- ANN MARIE (9/5): -
- Campbell (9/5): - Lovely location, once they finish renovating, it will be even nicer.
- mark (10/5): - Room location and awesome breakfast.
Lage Lage Lage
- John (10/5): A good stay and we shall return - Excellent breakfast. Attentive and informative host.
- david (9/5): -
- Maz Hussain (8/5): - Nice King Room plenty of room. The WiFi is unstable, and the tv didn't work to relax in the evening once the bar was shut.
- Lauren (7/5): Good - The rooms at the inn where amazing very spacious and lovely. Saw the menu online and booked in. Unfortunately when we turned up there was a limited Sunday menu we were a bit gutted as we had seen rave reviews about the food and could only have a sharing roast. The bar also closed very early which meant we had to go to the pub down the road.
- Catherine (9/5): Enjoyable stay - The room was comfortable, light and airy with a fantastic view. Probably the nicest room we had walking the Dales Way.
The outside seating area was good, as was the food. Enjoyable cooked breakfast Some issues about availability of WiFi, eventually resolved but we had had to go to Craven Arms for WiFi in the meantime, as there is no data
- Michael (9/5): A great overnight stay in a beautiful location - Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Fantastic location. All good
- Selina (8/5): Beautiful location, spotlessly clean, polite friendly professional proprietor - The location The rooms decor
- Armitage (8/5): Very good - Dinner was excellent. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. The bar and kitchen were closed on Monday and Tuesday, however the owner has recently bought it so had to honour the bookings for accommodation from the previous owners.
- Anne (9/5): Perfect quiet spot with beautiful countryside. - Excellent location. Very quiet with lovely views. Breakfast was good with home made bread and black pudding. Disappointed that the bar and restaurant not open on the day of our arrival.
- Tansy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carl (9/5): A real pub, warm and friendly welcome in a fantastic location. - Very friendly staff ,great selection of beer and a real coal fire in the bar.
- Robin (8/5): Very good -
- Genevieve (10/5): We had a wonderful stay in New Inn - would love to come back again! - Beautiful little inn - most friendly staff, excellent breakfast and a lovely room. The food was amazing - and lovely to overlook the paddocks. Was the perfect place to stay for a local wedding. Would love to come back again! Nothing :)
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Fantastic location, loved the swifts aerobatic displays outside the window. Comfortable spacious room and excellent breakfast. Fresh milk in the bedroom was really appreciated Friendly helpful staff. Would have liked the artwork on the walls to be more reflective of the location.
- Robert (8/5): Welcoming Pub with great walks from the door. - We had a warm welcome and immediately felt at the home and what seemed like a localâs pub.
Great choice of real Ales and very good quality and imaginative food, mostly locally sourced. Some of the fixtures and fittings felt unfinished although to be fair we understand the Pub is only been taken over recently.
- Linzi (7/5): Good -
- Simon (10/5): A wonderful weekend. - The location of the New Inn was perfect. The view from my room overlooking the valley was wonderful to wake to.
The breakfast was exceptional and as a vegetarian I felt fully catered for.
I was visiting for a nearby wedding so unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time at the New Inn but certainly will in the future.
Finally, the staff were polite and helpful throughout.
Will be back. I had a wonderful time, so nothing to add here.
- Daniel (10/5): The perfect place for an evenings rest and great breakfast to start your day - Staff service Was closed for food on Sunday evening
- Philip (8/5): Very good -
- A (10/5): Exceptional - What an absolute gem of a place this is!
We managed to get a last minute 2 night stay, along with an evening meal on the first night, and lunch on the second day.
The food on offer certainly wasn't your typical "pub grub", but instead was more towards the bistro end of bistro-pub, exceeding expectations at every turn.
The pork I had was some of the best I've eaten, and the mushroom risotto my partner had was sublime. I may recommend that the pork, which was an exceedingly thick cut, perhaps be served with a steak knife next time?
The breakfast the next morning was great, but the lunch we had was exceptional, with the mushrooms on toast and the fried chicken both being outstanding.
We will definitely be back for another visit as soon as possible, and wish the new owners all the success with their new venture, which already promises to be a firm favourite among many!
- Linda (5/5): Wouldnât stay again - They were renovating so was hard to tell. The room was very small. No television . First night noisy fan kept us awake.
- Jon (8/5): First nights stay on the Dalesway. Good beer, great evening meal and a good breakfast. - A refurbishment in progress but plenty of potential for a future visit. All was good. There was a package near the foot of the narrow stairs that a health and safety official would have disapproved of!
- Debrah (8/5): Very good -
- Theresa (6/5): Might be better in the future - has promise but Iâd wait a while - Location was stunning. Clearly working hard to upgrade. Nice owner, good breakfast served with manners and convivial conversation. The barmaid - verging on hostile. Unfriendly and we felt ignored. Quite rude when I asked for help with internet failure. Also carried on speaking to another guest about ânothingâ who told her twice to attend to us. No kettle in our room due to âdoing up propertyâ - they never found us one. Evening meals looked very poor â someone eating there was complaining about hers when we went to eat so we left to eat elsewhere. We didnât think it was great value for the price. Food at the next pub up superior.
- Ady (10/5): Great location couldnât have wished for a better place to stay. - Everything , great location , good selection of drinks . Food was excellent .
- Mick (9/5): A cracking place to consider for your Dales break. - The whole package was very good. Aside from the location this place is under careful and friendly new ownership who are really working hard with their staff to improve the services which had suffered pre-Nov 24 under previous landlords. The accommodation is comfortable, they serve a good pint from Kirkstall and Soltaire breweries and the chef locally sources, prepares and cooks (a different from your usual pub grub menu offering) to a high standard.. The beer garden had fine views. Parking available. N/A
