Guest Reviews
- LJ (3/5): - It was close to Wellington on our way home to Taranaki Not very clean
Food prep area was too close to the toilet
Tradie van parked outside working on something which the noise was very annoying while we were trying to relax
Had to ring the house to try and get check in details nothing came by Booking.com
- Vea (7/5): - Loved the location Didn’t like the fridge and kitchenette joint with bathroom
- Ulrike (3/5): Würde ich nicht wieder buchen - Das Bett war sehr bequem, die Dusche war sauber. Es war ein ausgebauter Stall , viele Spinnenweben und sehr einfach .
Das gebuchte Frühstück fehlte .
- Debbie (7/5): Convenient, peaceful and value for money - Great location, very peaceful. Just what we needed for a quick stop before travelling on the ferry. Well equipped, clean, comfy. Host had great responses to queries. Thank you! Just one small thing - the breakfast was only some cereal which was a bit old and stuck together, there were spreads in the fridge but no bread to use them on. Other than that it was all good.
- Paula (7/5): - Lovely location. Nice and private. Could have done with a quick de spider wed. Didn't worry me but my daughter didn't like the spiders.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Jessica (8/5): Overall I really enjoyed staying here. It was super relaxing and a lovely location. - Fab location :). I think just a tiny bit more communication would have been nice. I sent a text after leaving with a few things and apologizing for a small mess my pup had made but recieved no reply whatsoever. The only other negative was it was quite cold - even the heat pump struggled to heat the cottage up i assume just to a lack of insulation etc (especially in the roof). However there was a wonderful electric blanket which mostly made up for this!
- Gavin (3/5): Not great - Proximity to motorway The property had a real damp smell and was dirty ,the bedding was clean but smelled damp the overall decor was if I’m being polite (rustic)wouldn’t stay there again or recommend it to anyone ,it’s in a great spot and could be made so much more appealing
- Renee (3/5): Damp and dirty. - Good location, rural and appreciate that it was dog friendly. First impression was good, however once we settled in, we noticed the cobwebs, dust and dirt. The cupboards and drawers were very messy. Everything felt sticky and dirty. There were two large live spiders, one next to the bed and one on the bed! We pulled the bed out from the wall to check there weren't more, and saw there was dust and clutter under the bed too. The DVD player didn't work, neither did the sky tv. The whole place felt damp, and there was visible water stains on the walls. The smoke detector was in a non-compliant location (should be at the highest point of the ceiling as smoke rises, and not immediately at the door, as it would be too late to get out if it went off). The kitchen within the bathroom was gross, as was all the old food. The water in the coffee machine was green with mould. The trees hit the roof in the wind which is very noisy as there is no insulation. The light throught the clear roofing is also annoying. Would not recommend. I can't believe people have the nerve to charge for a place like this. Overall it felt cluttered, damp and dirty.

- Mark (7/5): - Easy to get to and great location. Very comfortable and OK for pets. The available breakfast was a lot to be desired with a mishmash of old cereals and opened milk, also no ordinary english breakfast tea!
- Helen (6/5): Would have been nice but a few things let it down. Just not for us. - The kitchen is in beside the toilet!
No proper room for food preparation.
Requires declutterring! No hair dryer
- O'Brien (7/5): Nice - Nice location

- Cleo (7/5): - The cottage is out of the city , but not to far . Very relaxing. Mowing lawn early hours on a Saturday morning 😯 very difficult to get hold of hosts and didn't get a response when trying to contact them . But the little cottage is cute and comfy .
- Jennifer (10/5): A home away from home, quite and refreashing - The location is outside of the city which was bliss. The room was comfortable with everything we needed. Hosts wee great at giving directions to the unit and communicating how we access the unit.
- Emma (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay at Benrose and would definitely stay again in the future! - We loved our stay at Benrose Farm Cottages. Such a beautiful property surrounded by farmland, but still close to amenities and the motorway.
- Juliette (8/5): Very good -
- Rasika (4/5): Can enjoy the location but can’t enjoy the property. - Location is very nice. Pantry is inside the bathroom and toilet. Bedding linen is not fresh one. Very old property and very old furnitures.
- Nicole (7/5): Good -
- Barb (9/5): Superb - We stayed at the larger cottage. The location is very convenient near the motorway, but it was very peaceful. Lovely views over the farm, horses and sheep. Perfect if you want to be away from the hustle of the city but stay close by. The cottage has everything you need. Thank you for having us.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely stay - The peace and quiet of the location was lovely Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay
- Jacki (9/5): Superb - Overall the place was gorgeous. The bed was really comfortable and the place was very clean. The kitchen in the bathroom
- Jackie (8/5): Very good - Good location and quiet Bit tight with a dog. Wash basin in bathroom too small to use.
- Marc (8/5): Very good - Rural setting , nice and rustic with good value.
Very good host. A dog from a neighbouring property barked most of the night - Our bad luck I guess 🤷
- Ange (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Lovely rural setting, yet close to Wellington. Very well appointed cabin and extremely comfortable bed.
- Trent (9/5): Excellent for a comfy, relaxing stop over while travelling and so handy to SH1. Will stay again. - Tidy, small cottage that had more than everything we needed with a good shower.
Fantastic location to access on to Transmission Gully (SH1) 1 minute down end of road made the morning trip to Ferry terminal so easy.
- Carlo (7/5): Great stay for the night. - We like the quiet location We could write a few things but considering the value and location we think it’s fine.
- Leandi (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (7/5): Good - Eclectic mix, lots of lovely touches the china, breakfast. Warm and welcoming would recommend.A very cute Labrador said hello 👋 to our dog 🐕. Thank you Couldn't find a light switch for single bed area.
- Pat (10/5): We were visiting friends in the area . Very suitable for our needs.Impressed with the little house . - Breakfast was adequate . Shower was very good. Found everything very satisfactory
- Jeannette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carlo (8/5): I stay was great thanks to comforts of comfy bed and country clean air etc. - Location was very handy to state Highway 1.
Country feel. Door code pain when going in and out of room to vehicle.
Toilet needs new seat, tryed to tighten but stripped threads.
- Grant (9/5): Great overnight stopover - Easy to find and handy to the highway but so so quiet. The entire space is small and slightly over cluttered. It would be good to have somewhere for your suitcases or a set of draws perhaps
- Tracey (10/5): Stunning den of relaxation and comfort! - Everything! What a fabulous spot and accommodation, this wonderful place cannot be overstated. It’s in a restful location and has every convenience you may need, down to a can of hairspray. We will definitely stay again when in the area! Zip, nada.
- Van (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (8/5): Very convenient location, over the road from Whitby shops and restaurants. Clean, tidy, quiet and comfortable. - We needed to catch an early ferry and we had our small poodle with us. So the dog friendly studio right next to the expressway was ideal only 23 kms from BLUEBRIDGE. The property was clean and tidy with very comfortable warm beds. HeatPump and wall panels for heating. Directions to get in to the cottage were a little confusing. No mention of a lockbox. There was a key in a lockbox on an outside wall around the side away from the door. The lockbox code was correct once we found it and the box held an electronic activation key. We needed help from a lovely young lady who was tending her horses. Problem well solved.
A little unusual seeing the toilet and shower next to the breakfast equipment within the same space.
- Grant (8/5): Very good - Everything was exactly as described. We loved our short overnight stay
- Lyn (10/5): A fabulous spot to stay will recommend to family and friends. - Quite, sunny and great spot Nothing
- Gavin (5/5): short - location was fab. rubbish under bed and cupboards. It was rustic but seemed overpriced for what it was, given our last home stay was same price and immaculate.
- Sarah (3/5): Poor - Ok location Pillows v old , room dirty ,kitchen and bathroom in the same room , mattress v old .
- Bronwyn (4/5): Average! - Was in the countryside. Well we had travelled all day and bought a cooked chicken and salad with us. There is NO room in the kitchenette/bathroom. Yes they are as one! Very surprised that is even allowed?
Beds were comfortable. I was settled for a good sleep.. then the dog at the top of the property barked consistently most of the night. Absolutely so disappointed. Look if you are coming to use bed only and watch some telly it’s fine. For me a big No.
- Tuaruru (9/5): Superb -
- Joshua (9/5): Close to Wellington and still feels like the country. - The location is very convenient right off the highway and close to Wellington.
- Mike (8/5): Nice rural location close to highway that suited our travel - Cosy place that suited our overnight travel No complaints but toast bread with breakfast would have been nice
- Shona (6/5): Studio OK for short stopover but kitchen facilities in bathroom a concern . - Property easy to find, close to motorway but quiet and private. Quaint decoration. No email prior to arrival so not aware of where to go or code for lockbox. Booked in studio and Kitchen facilities in bathroom.
- Bianca (7/5): Good -
- Stephanie (10/5): Lovely comfy stay, close to the motorway but remote and quiet at the same time. Would love to come back! - Beautifully kept little cottage with the comfiest bed! Very clean and tidy. Had everything we needed and more. A sign to follow the correct driveway would’ve been handy, we arrived late at night and had a little trouble finding the cottage as we took a wrong turn
- Carlos (10/5): It was more of a hidden gem and the dogs were super friendly. We really enjoyed our stay -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely peaceful rural location, but close to motorway. Gorgeous set up & decor, beds were so comfy, coffee machine. Had the dog with us so was great to stay somewhere dog friendly. We had the best sleep of our trip here.
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Good parking, dogs allowed 👍🏼 Nothing we didn’t like-met our needs completely
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gagandeep (10/5): Beautiful - It was perfect for my family and dogs away from the city rush, amazing views that went perfectly with the weather 😊 the horses were beautiful. Also got to meet 1 of the owners dogs Jock he was a sweetheart 🤍
Thank you so much for having us
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Sonya (9/5): Very good - Easy access and pets were allowed
- Suzanne (3/5): Kitchen in bathroom! - Nice location out of Wellington, beds were comfy. Heatpump worked well Instructions for check in weren't correct. We had instructions for the newer accommodation but it didn't have 2 beds. Owner then put us in the older stable converted cottage. Needs more signage to find. Place was in desperate need of a clean. Bathroom had loads of bugs and spiders in every corner, behind and on beds. Room was really hot if sunny and freezing if cold out. It rained a lot and the rain on the roof was really loud. Our dog didn't get any sleep our last night.
When we sat outside we didn't realise people would be coming and going right in front of the cottage, plus there was a camera pointed at the front of the cottage so we always felt watched which wasn't nice. From the photos advertising the place we thought we would be looking at a tranquil pond but that wasn't near the cottage at all.
The real sore point and one that should be disclosed in photos is that the kitchenette is in the bathroom, opposite the toilet! This would have been a deal breaker for us as there was no way to partition off the kitchenette. The ice box was completely frozen over so we couldn't use it, when travelling freezer packs are essential but we couldn't fit many in. The rubbish bin lid didn't close, we had to put things on top to keep it closed and on our last morning while cleaning up we found cockroaches on the fridge and behind the microwave. The kitchen in the loo was really unpleasant and to be honest we wouldn't have booked if we had known.
- Mark (9/5): enjoyed stay, would consider staying again, but unsure - location, clean, bed had roll between, uncomfortable
- Jessica (8/5): Great stay, excellent location and fab little cottage. Thank you. - Ease of getting there and also carrying on to the ferry as well as being pet friendly.
- Heather (9/5): Great location for the ferry in the country - Location to Wellington. Didn’t take long to get to the ferry terminal. Dog friendly. Rural location
- Peter (8/5): The bed is a little small for us - items left were sufficient no bread or butter
- Bex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janine (9/5): Superb -
- Kirsty (9/5): Off grid....highly recommend 👌 - Very clean.
I am an animal lover, and seeing the horses and sheep was awesome.
Great views.
Very close to the highway and water.
Very quiet
For Wellington and a big city, it was nice to be out of town a bit. Basin in the bathroom was a bit small.
Felt a bit too much like a business transaction. It's nice to feel welcome and meet other people 😀.
Plus, I don't really like big cities. They are a bit too snobby for me. It was out of town enough to not feel like I was in Wellington as much.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Ali (3/5): Did not compare price wise to previous accommodation of studio on shore of Lake Taupo and art hotel in Auckland. - Some attention to making it welcoming, and bed was comfortable, but at same time seemed also put together with junky broken furniture and cutlery. The kitchen space in the bathroom was weird and unpleasant, and overall felt like being in a box.
- Wayne (9/5): Convenient, peaceful, reasonable price. - Convenient, peaceful, reasonable price.
- Jennifer (7/5): A nice place but not keen on the toilet being open to the kitchen - The location was great
Comfy bed
Clean The toilet and bathroom integrated with the kitchen
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (7/5): Good -
- Yong (1/5): Bad - kitchen and shower. toilet is same space.
so duty.
- Sarah (10/5): Travelling with our dog, we found this property to be valid for money on a stunning setting. Best I have stayed in for a - Fabulous location with everything we needed after a long day of travel Nothing, this property is stunning
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (9/5): Superb - Needs too have a sign at entrance of site and one at start of road so we know where they are or which drive way other than that everything was excellent
- Pascalene (9/5): Superb -
- Cushla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucie (9/5): perfect and close and easy to ferry for early crossing -
- Wyatt (8/5): Excellent host, great location - Great location and the property owner was very helpful
- Wendy (7/5): Good - Nice location Kitchen facilities
- Snowden (8/5): Very good -
- Melinda (8/5): we thoroughly enjoyed it; the hosts brought an iron down to us as we were going direct to WOW. - the cottage was lovely, watching all the farm animals and also wildlife was great. We also got a visit from dear old Jock, lovely old dog x Maybe a bit too much stuff in the cottage, ie drawers in the kitchen etc. need an iron and also need a hairdryer.
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Tamati (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elaine (10/5): Absolutely fantastic - It was just perfect No faults at all
- Bernie (3/5): Disappointing, will stick to motels, its their CORE business not A-B&B easy money side business - The double bed was very comfortable. The location. The rustic look of the place Toilet blocked twice, had to unblock with toilet brush. No handle or lock on door living to bathroom. It rained in the night & water came in & puddled by single bed. The panty cupboard is effectively in the toilet (Health hazard). Food in pantry had been previously opened, we never touched it. It poured with rain in the night, we were concerned with flooding in the driveway so left about 5.00am to find water flowing over the low point of the drive, lucky we left early!
- Amanda (9/5): Superb - Loved it!!! Would definitely stay again, lovely host so friendly. Nice and peaceful, would love to stay longer Coffee machine didn’t froth milk
- Tony (8/5): Cute, tiny and Rural - Nice rural aspect, everything we needed for an overnight stay. Breakfast wasn’t great. No milk,
bread and butter was provided, just an opened box of cereal. Wifi kept cutting out.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the place, was super cozy and the host Tania was so nice! She had the heat pump turned on for when I arrived, and made me so comfortable about having my dog with me, she stayed in their kennel while I was away and had some of the hosts dogs round for company. Easy to find, felt really private. Also very affordable!
- Kumm (3/5): Poor - Location was good Musty smell, no milk =no coffees or bread
- Kim (10/5): Short and sweet - All good and well-presented highly recommend
- Lincoln (4/5): Disappointing - Cute setting Very rough and ready, clearlight sheets on roof dripping condensation, no insulation to roof.
- Love (9/5): Superb - That it was quite and peaceful also allowed pets Toilet and shower where your food is in same room
- Lindsay (7/5): Good - Breakfast would have been fine but I did not have any as don't normally have breakfast Small bathroom.
- Dobson70 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pete (6/5): Excellent location, well priced - Excellent location for our needs, good value for money I really didn't like some of the food prepartion area being in the shower/toilet room. You might want to change this setup
