Guest Reviews
- Ian (10/5): - everthing there nothing
- Tony (6/5): Nice central location for a short stay - Nice location. Alot of noise in the evening, from outside bar which was below the room. Also loud crashes of bottles being dropped into recycling bins.
The first hotel in many years where the key had to be returned to the hotel when going outside.
- gary (8/5): -
- davy (9/5): -
- Felicity (8/5): Great location, quite old but comfortable hotel. Would re visit - Nice room with great view of the sea. Comfortable beds and good choice of teas, biscuits etc. Great bathroom with good shower and toiletries. Breakfast was good but not so much choice and often ran out of condiments 2 mornings. Coffee not so good.
- Mercedesz (8/5): - Beds comfortable, good shower, good breakfast Door closers are not adjusted correctly, too hard to open, too fast closing
A bit noisy floorboards
WiFi flaky
- Madeleine (8/5): - Very easy to get to from the ferry over. Bus stops right outside made it really easy too Quite loud overnight. Bit of a gap under the door so could hear everyone up and down the hall way
- Lucia (7/5): I would go again, yes! - Location just right at the pier. Bus interchange for local buses and for the Brezzer (open touristic bus) just outside the entrance.
Staff was brilliant, always helping, ready to listen. They definitelly made our stay a very positive one. All of them! The room was outdated but very clean, they clean the room every day, re filling with water bottles, coffee, toiletries.
The hotel has a restaurant and a bar with outdoor sitting area.
The member of staff at the hotel have been super helpful, and they have found a reasonable solution for a miscommunication provided by Booking.com messaging service. So i was glad for the wonderful staff! We overall loved our stay , but if you are booking via booking.com and if you had submitted a special request like we did, i wpuld advise you to also contact the hotel directly(call them or email them via the contact details you can find on google and confirm with them durectly in case you have submitted a special request ) as communication via booking.com might be an issue when making a special request or asking for information.
I personally feel that breakfast could be different, better /fresher. And perhaps more choices to hot drinks (there was only very light filtered coffe). You order your hot breakfast a la carte, once only, as the buffet only has small selection of the usual bread boxed cereals, sirup fruits, and jams
Once again the breakfast wasnt amongst the best i had in other hotels, but i eaten to my heart content regardless.
Would i use this hotel again? Yes ;)
- Victoria (10/5): Comfortable stay in great location - Location and friendly staff
- Lynn (6/5): Rooms are dated & overpriced. Breakfast is awful - Good location. Room was comfortable and the brand new bathroom was lovely. The room could do with upgrading to bathroom level. Breakfast was awful. The beans came in little pits and the sauce had dried up on top, obviously not freshly done. Bacon was anaemia looking & smoked. Tea was already made up in urns and looked grey as dishwater. Staff member who was supposed to show you to a table was ignorant.
- Claire (6/5): It was ok for one night definitely not worth £149 fir the night - The location Very dated needs modernisation . Was very basic for 3star more like 1-2 star definitely not worth £149 for the night
- Karen (9/5): - The hotel was very quirky. Loved the unique floor plan. The staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful and pleasant. Dr The room was very hot and it would have been nice to be able to open the windows wider
- Rupert (10/5): - Very nice - some things were dated but it’s an old hotel with a lot of character so it’s all part of the charm.
Loved the service - staff were really friendly. Nothing
- Allan (8/5): -
- Leigh (10/5): Great catch up with friends in Ryde on the IOW - Everything.Great location and great staff.Room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. Nothing Ng to dislike
- Paul (7/5): A good base for an overnight stay. - Prompt and welcoming attention on arrival. View of the Solent from the window of my room. Location exactly where I wanted to be. Decent breakfast, served quite quickly in spite of there being a large coach party in the breakfast room at the same time. Worrying clanking and clattering noises in the lift; rather foreboding notice by the lift saying it will break down if too many people get in. Room window could have done with a clean, but maybe a seafront location makes this a challenge.
- Magdalena (9/5): -
- Mark Henry Osborne (7/5): - Location and staff helpful Needs updating
Too many steps even after lifts
- David (6/5): Apart from the bedroom we enjoyed our stay. - Breakfast , location and Harry's bar. Bedroom. Bed fine. Rest of furniture tatty.
Both chairs had loose arms. Dressing table passed its sell by date.
- Norman (7/5): -
- Derek (8/5): Comfortable pleasant hotel with helpful staff - We were first shown to a small cramped dated room. We moved to a larger room with lovely sea view but had to pay for an upgrade . Our son arrived the next day and was given a spacious room with sea view for no extra charge. Why were we given a substandard room initially.
- patricia (5/5): Enjoyed our stay location excellent staff lovely great bar just room needed updating - Location and staff very nice Room very sparse of furniture no pictures on walls very bare no black out curtains on windows pillows very hard room was very clean
- Ian (9/5): - It was close to the seafront and railway station.
- Ajinkya (9/5): -
- Fryer (10/5): -

- Murray (9/5): -
- Rashael (5/5): Short stay - The location is beautiful, waking up to the sea view was lovely
Breakfast was good , everything was clean with a great selection of foods.
Staff were friendly and explained things in a way that came across as friendly and welcoming, Thank you to Max at reception for taking time to show is the car park and hospitality. Our visit was short and unplanned but glad we got a lovely sea facing room Couldn't figure out the water , sometimes it was hot and sometimes freezing cold, so that was interesting 🤣

- Landu (9/5): We had a very good experience and fantastic - Breakfast was well served and had excellent test.
Friendly and very approachable hotel staff.
Nice and clean environment.
Location very close to the beach.
transport and other amenities very close by May be the checking time could be extended to 12:00 o' clock
- Tomas (10/5): -
- philip (10/5): Staff were lovely - Breakfast and Sunday lunch was lovely and plentiful. Bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. Staff were very polite, friendly and helpful.
The new garden is lovely with plenty of room and loads of seating. The view from our room looked out over corrugated roofs and run down properties and gardens. It didn't matter so much as we weren't in our room to look out of the window.
There are lots of stairs, although there is a lift there are steps to rooms when you get out of the lift, my husband had to carry my rollator up those stairs.
There are steps leading to the vast seating area in the garden.
- Thompson (10/5): - Great staff
- Alexander (7/5): -
- suzanne (6/5): Poor facilities - Reception lady was wonderful I booked a hotel, (lone pensioner) as I really didn't want to be trying to find somewhere to eat in the evening . There was no indication on booking that the restaurant would be closed for a private function and to get to the bar you needed to walk through the restaurant so not the best value for money when no where to eat it grab a glass of wine . A notice on the booking page really would of been helpful .
Other than the room was great and spotless
- Diana (8/5): -
- 👑marianna (10/5): -
- Linda (10/5): Highly recommended - Amazing views, lovely spacious room, friendly staff and great breakfast, highly recommended.
- Tanya (10/5): - I like that it was in the central area
- Gayatri (7/5): - Location
- Graham (5/5): No free wifi - It was a nice comfortable room No free wifi if you wanted it you had to pay a fortune for it
- Ram Narayan (8/5): Overall a very good experience - Location was on the sea front and near Transport Interchange making it very convenient for public transport dwellers. Breakfast was okay
- Guest (9/5): -
- Kathan (7/5): -
- Taylor (10/5): -
- Dave (8/5): Lovely stay in comfortable surroundings. - Friendly staff, nothing was too much effort Wasn’t the biggest breakfast. Had better in other hotels
- Reddy (10/5): -
- Lorna (7/5): We enjoyed it. Good value for money - comparable to big chains but with more personality. - Excellent location right by the pier & transport links, and lovely traditional feel to the entrance lobby and corridors. Friendly staff. Bed linen very clean, shower worked well. Always a table available for breakfast; no queuing. Room size was very generous. Separate toilet to bathroom. Very bright light outside the window which the blackout curtains didn’t cover at the top, so the room was constantly bright all night. Very clean except for a lot of dust falling from bathroom fan onto our toiletries. Booking . com listing is a little out of date - dated furniture not like in the photos, no slippers provided, no fruit at breakfast except in the posher room which we weren’t permitted in - but nothing too bad.
- Kanishk (10/5): -
- Katja (10/5): Great stay in Ryde - Friendly staff, great location, clean room and bathroom.
- Stefano (10/5): Amazing stay - Tutto!
- Paul (9/5): -
- Doyne (10/5): I was happy with everything. - I enjoyed the breakfast and was happy with location. I don't have any complaints.
- Heinz (8/5): Es hat mir gut gefallen, ich würde es wieder buchen. - Perfekte Lage, Freundliches Personal, Alter Englischer Stil. ——
- Janet (8/5): Comfortable with a great location - Big hotel in a great location opposite the hoverport and round the corner from lots of shops and restaurants. This was a real bonus for us and we enjoyed watching the activity in the port. It was a perfect spot for a nights stay as we walked on the coastal path. The staff were delightful throughout As others have said, the hotel has seen better days and its grandeur is a little faded however that is reflected in the price so it was very much as I expected.
- Angie (10/5): - Great breakfast
- Fardin (10/5): -
- Ian (8/5): -
- Biggs (8/5): Was a nice break near the beach and public transportation - Location and cost Room could do with an update
- ronald (8/5): Lovely hotel with great staff let down by poor food. - Staff amazingly good. 24 hour reception. Room really spacious and very clean. Lovely and quiet and able to get a good nights sleep. Directly opposite the train station and bus terminus. Absolutely perfect for getting around the island. Harry’s bar good and ver social. Comfortable with lots of live daily events. Breakfast very poor quality.
Porridge cold.
Cooked breakfast lukewarm and tasteless. Several hotel guests left hungry and advised that they were on their way to Wetherspoons where we should join them.
Good 22 minutes before the grapefruit juice, water, tea and coffee were filled up again.

- Walter (10/5): Isle-of-Wight - Kurzbesuch! Beste Wahl! - Sehr gute Lage in Ryde - beim Bahnhof „Ryde-Esplanade“ (Inselbahn) mit Verbindung von Portsmouth via Katamaran „Ryde Pier Head“ (Zug auf dem Pier) oder direkt via Hovercraft von/nach Portsmouth. Ebenso sind alle Buslinien Isle-of-Wight ab Bahnhof Ryde sofort erreichbar. Sehr schönes Hotel - very british! Schönes Restaurant mit Angebot „Table d‘hôte“ beim Nachtessen (Menüwahl) ebenso ausgedehntes englisches Frühstück mit Auswahl. Sehr freundliches Personal an der Réception und im Restaurant. Perfekte Lage für Reisende ohne Auto. Gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis (Buchung in Nebensaison).
- Richard (3/5): Very poor room with view of a brick wall - Nothing even the breakfast was cold so asked for another they just microwaved the one we had making the egg Rock hard We arrived slightly early and despite rooms were available we were told we could not check in till 3 pm
- Pason (10/5): - Location Fire alarm
- Nicola (10/5): Perfect - Perfect location, rooms very spacious with lovely view. Staff very friendly
- NavinRao (8/5): - We always visit this hotel during Christmas and New Year. Of course it rained most of the time.
- Jane (8/5): -
- Leanne82 (8/5): -
- andrew (9/5): - Amazing location and so near the station & ferry ⛴️ Nothing really !!!
- Nikki (9/5): Had a lovely 2 night stay at the Royal Esplanade 💙 - Excellent location near to the town and right by the sea. Large beautifully clean, comfortable room with fantastic sea views. Cooked breakfast on the 2nd morning not great, very plain.
Same breakfast on 1st morning completely different all good the scrambled eggs were delicious !
Must have been different chefs.
- Nikki (9/5): -
- Daz (10/5): - Breakfast was great 👍 room was basic but clean ..cleaned everyday.. location great
- Connor (2/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): ryde getaway - Great position. Breakfast good. -
- Raquel (8/5): - Fenomenal location, right in front of the pier. Close to shops and transports. Bathroom is renovated and had a great shower. Good cooked breakfast included. Good and clean bed linens. 24 hour desk, which is a plus regarding safety perception. Overall good price for money. the building is a bit old as was the carpet of my room. Lack of sockets, only one available near the door. I had to seat on the floor to dry my hair, phone charged on the floor too. I beieve the view must be incredible in the front but could only see the old roof from my window. Was ok for a night though.
- Leon (7/5): Staff were very friendly and it was good value. - Location No Wi-Fi in room
- Andrew (7/5): A traditional seaside hotel. - Great location, adjacent to the pier with rail and bus stations, catamaran and hovercraft links to the mainland. A great view from the sea facing room. There was no fresh fruit for breakfast and the full English was let down by horrible beans and mushrooms. The plumbing wasn't very good with the shower being impossible to balance.
- Mark (7/5): - Location Dated
- Vikki (7/5): Great for a quick stop in Ryde. Friendly team and nice hotel, could do with some room improvements though. - The property is in a fantastic location, directly across the road from the hover port. Check in was easy and the hotel staff were friendly and efficient. Harry’s bar/snug on site is cosy and warm and a real treat on the rainy weather. Good price point with light, airy room, great size and very clean. Unfortunately we stayed in a room with very creaky beds which meant everyone we turned over it disturbed the rest of the room. The curtains also didn’t close all the way or stop the streetlights from coming in which was annoying and there is no individual heating controls for the room which although lovely and warm (we were grateful in the rainy weather) it was very warm when trying to sleep.
- Harshita (5/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): Had a great weekend really great staff well done - Spacious Nothing
- Caroline (10/5): - everything. hotel was very clean. staff were really friendly. breakfast was amazing. nothing
- Schinkel (10/5): -
- Martin (10/5): Perfect choice for us. - Great location and so convenient for buses and rail & ferry connections just across the road.
Lovely old victorian style hotel with very comfortable beds and spacious rooms.. staff were very friendly and helpful and had a great breakfast choice. Special mention for Amelia, our waitress who is a charming young lady. Lounge seating is very uncomfortable and too low.
- Ishwerlal (9/5): Week end visit ..break..Distressing.etc - Just what one expects from a hotel.
Especially the staff were excellent.
Felt comfortable and at homely feeling All Good
