Guest Reviews
- Orla (7/5): - Great having the restaurant on site Couldn't open bedroom window, mosquito net didn't fit the bed properly. No complimentary water in the room like other lodges in Lilongwe
- SwaziH (8/5): - The bed was comfortable. Hair on the floor, and my first order was not best.
- Phillip (10/5): Great Staff, Great Hotel - Great staff, great hotel for a stay in Lilongwe
- Tariq (1/5): Never again - Nothing Service
- V (8/5): -
- Bibian (8/5): Overall, my stay was great. I always woke up feeling refreshed and ready for a new day. - The breakfast and meals were delicious on the days I managed to have them. My room was very spacious, clean and neat, which I really appreciated.
The hotel staff were very helpful and kind.
The location was serene and suited my purpose of travel. My bed was a bit squeaky and could use some repair. I also found the hotel transport to be very expensive.
- Kep Nachisale (8/5): - Quietness (SHHHHH Sign) which was good for concentration and peaceful sleep. Cleanliness of the rooms and the surrounding places. Complimentary breakfast was good It took long when checking in and not being advised of what the challenge was. I just figured out that they could not print the check in form after overhearing the conversation.
- margaret (7/5): acceptable but not memorable - good location Poor dinner menu.
- luciano (7/5): Wir haben uns etwa downgraded gefühlt. Nirgends stand, dass es Zimmer ohne Fenster gab und dass man ausschließlich mit K - Lage. Überall Eindruck Auf Booking.com steht: ‚rooms with garden view‘
There is no garden to look at, and some rooms don’t have windows
- Isabelle (9/5): Great place to stay, quiet and comfortable - Nice location, calm and safe Airport transfer was too expensive
- Checo (7/5): -
- Phionah (8/5): Excellent service, spotless rooms, and fast internet. - Breakfast is customized to individual tastes and preferences, and it is prepared professionally. The location is truly stunning and perfect for training, although it is somewhat distant from town for trainees relying on public transport. Overall, I received outstanding services during my stay. I didn't like that cash isn't accepted, particularly for the Kwacha, as a non-Malawian.
- Dave (9/5): Friendly, helpful staff. Great hotel! - Great hotel, a gem in Lilongwe Nothing
- Sandip (8/5): - Good.
- Wongani (8/5): Awesome -
- Dahir (8/5): Lovely hotel and staff - Good staff light walls , u may hear staff walking on corridor but not an issue since thw hotel in a quit area
- Vahan (9/5): -
- Joseph (7/5): Comfortable stay - The room, the bed very comfortable. Helpful staff. Meals not so appealing. Ate some chambord, not so fresh.
Came into my room, balcony floor, furniture etc were very dusty.

- Alexander (7/5): - Very comfy bed, friendly staff, nice meals. Loud music playing outside on the patio immediately outside my room, which was very audible because the bathroom window was broken and wouldn't close. Staff were quite confused when I asked for the music to be turned off and was initially told it would be on all night, though eventually it was turned down. I find this crazy, especially given the relatively high price for Lilongwe - please turn the music off without guests having to ask! Otherwise the hotel was fantastic so this was a shame.
- Stuart (7/5): -
- Sufia (9/5): Would definitely recommend! - Great staff! If you’re a light sleeper, request a room upstairs. First floor rooms have a bit of noise from routine maintenance around the property in the mornings.
- Dereck (7/5): Good -
- Makoni (7/5): Good -
- Christiaan (9/5): Superb -
- Yvette (10/5): Will definitely be back - Loved everything. Staff very accommodating and appreciated the welcome juice on arrival. Lovely restaurant with very good food and well priced. Robe and slippers provided as well. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful accommodation, then Bamboo Boutique Hotel is for you Nothing
- Brett (8/5): Very good -
- Gianluca (6/5): Pleasant - Too expensive for lilongwe
- Mopo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lance (7/5): Good -
- Paul (4/5): Disappointing experience. - Ample parking and the reception staff were helpful. Overall a disappointing stay. I requested a room change after the first night as it was like the 'Blackhole of Calcutta. The replacement room was better was overlooked a staff rest area/work area with the associated noise. The outlook from both rooms was non-existent. Breakfast was most disappointing and the standard of food was below par. On one occasion my wife was initially refused breakfast as she went at 0920, breakfast on Booking.com is stated as finishing at 1000. Breakfast was eventually agreed! Service is slow (25 mins for scrambled eggs!) and the choices limited. One morning there was what appeared to be some muffins on offer but after that no pastries etc. were seen again. Would not return.
- Kim (6/5): Pleasant - The rooms are nicely furnished. The restaurant has a wide choice of food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Lovely selection in the mini bar The room has no windows, making it quite dark. Overall, the hotel requires some maintenance. The beds are somewhat firm. Additionally, because of the hotel's size, the function area directly overlooks the guest rooms.
- Karine (9/5): Superb -
- Brandon (7/5): Good -
- Tina (9/5): Superb -
- Sunday (10/5): Exceptional - What a great experience!!! The service was excellent. Waiters were friendly, responsive, and prompt when you called while in the restaurant. I enjoyed the food.
- Sue (3/5): Poorly managed hotel - The junior staff were excellent, bed was comfortable and restaurant was good The room was without windows which meant that all light was from room lights both day and night.
The management of the hotel let their staff and owners down.
Despite us booking on Booking.com , at check out we were told Booking.com had cancelled our booking. Despite giving all email evidence of reservation etc we were made to pay the hotel rate which was $20 more . The Front Desk staff handled us well, but despite ringing several managers , they apologised to us , and asked us to pay the rack rate. Interestingly Booking. com have asked us to rate our stay!
- Sue (8/5): Pleasant stay, thank you - Staff were really helpful
- Sue (8/5): Enjoyable, relaxing stay - Staff were very good and went out of their way to be helpful
- Jeffrey (6/5): - Friendly staff
- Fakhri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (6/5): Nice accommodation but customer service let it down - Good position, safe environment. Modern Company policies: check out times
Customer service - we had to keep asking for things which got tiresome
- Shoeb (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing Everything
- Mahmoud (3/5): Misleading photos and reviews on Booking.com - Nice staff The hotel is, at best, a 2-star establishment, yet it charges more than 5-star hotels in similar settings (region, economic conditions, etc.).
The towels were very old and smelled very bad.
I was given a ground-floor room, which made it feel like people outside were practically in the room with me.
The management is very exploitative. This may be the case for all hotels in Malawi, but I’m not sure.
- Sharon (9/5): A great find just outside the city center, wonderful customer care service and delicious food. - The staff were amazing, helpful, friendly and always greeting you with a smile. The rooms were a good size for 2 people and cleaned daily, the place is quiet like a hidden gem just a little outside the main city. Now the breakfast was delicious, (not buffet style) freshly made off the menu daily. I tried most of the meals off their menu and they were all delicious and made with love as ordered. The staff were wonderful and the service was great. So far, it was my best stay in Malawi. The tap in the bathroom sink area was a little unstable and could be strengthened. I would say a little maintenance or DIY could be done to enhance the beauty of the place. At the reception area the silver artifact items on display could be polished.
- Alexander (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): excellent staff. John, Nason, and Grace were very kind and very professional - quiet, clean.
- Dian (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, great hospitality
- Philemon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (9/5): Superb - It is a nice hotel located in a calm area 12 with all necessary amenities, a nice restaurant and excellent service. Safe and guarded. Good WiFi and a wide range of TV channels. They follow sustainability rules (eg. not changing hanged towels), which is great as in many Western hotels this rule is not obeyed. If you order a car service, you need to ask carefully about destination and price so as not to be surprised with the final bill. And it is overpriced.
Fresh vegetables could be served in restaurant
- Umesh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Herman (6/5): Pleasant -
- Aly (7/5): Clean and quiet place for a work stay in Malawi - The breakfast was very good with multiple options and freshly squeezed juices. Food at the restaurant was also good. The hotel is clean and the staff are helpful.
- Kimathi (7/5): Horrendously high bed with hard mattress - The location is great and convenient if you have business to do in the city centre. The restaurant also serves decent food and has friendly staff. The bed is horrendously high, besides the hard mattress, which makes it quite uncomfortable.
The room water provided is not bottled; so I'm not sure how safe it was for drinking.. And very little in-room entertainment. Have to watch live sports in the restaurant.
Am also not sure whether it's the design, but there's a lot of noise that gets through into the room from the corridors.
- Jo (8/5): Very good -
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (10/5): Beautiful Boutique Hotel in Lilongwe - Lovely boutique hotel that feels like a bed and breakfast. Cute garden. Great restaurant. Staff is friendly, helpful and professional. No complaints at all.
- Shumye (8/5): Very good -
- Bezuidenhout (9/5): Very Good - We really enjoyed the breakfast and dinner, and the rooms were clean. The location was also very convenient.
- Itzik (7/5): Good -
- Pierre (8/5): We booked last minute on booking.com and the hotel didn't recieve the confirmation. Even if they wer -
- Joseph (10/5): - Wonderful, peaceful time at Bamboo. Staff are very friendly and responsive.
- Alan (8/5): - My cigarettes and lighter were missing this morning after I left them in the table outside my room .
- Ndhlovu (5/5): Passable -
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- Lars (9/5): Superb -
- Heather (10/5): - It’s a very nice spot and the restaurant is good. Staff are excellent. It’s hard to be in a compound though. It would be nice if there had been a pool.
- Heather (10/5): - Very nice and comfortable resort
- Alberto (8/5): Very good - - Quiet place, clean, good internet and friendly staff - I found the airport transfer a bit pricy
- I wish they had a gym, although the area is nice for a morning run
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Funmilayo (9/5): Nice! -
- Tithokoze (8/5): Was there for one night and it was great! - Clean and quiet. Nice people Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Jason (9/5): Superb - Good location, well organized, nice decor. Great staff, awesome breakfast, good restaurant food. Lovely restaurant manager. Rooms lovely. The first room faced the car park and right next to the front door. However on mentioning noise, I was immediately moved to quieter room.
- Thomas (9/5): Superb boutique hotel! - Fantastic boutique hotel: great service, wonderful spacious rooms with great amenities, fast internet, superb breakfast, very good restaurant attached... This is a new hotel, with very few areas for improvement:
-biggest issue: rooms are in a corridor that echoes and amplifies all noises through the hotel; you need earplugs to sleep if you are a light to medium sleeper. They know about this, as there are numerous signs abound "keep quiet!" but that if course doesnt do the trick. Maybe invest in some noise-cancelling doors, carpets, doors between reception and rooms, etc?
-water in the room is in a non-sealed flask. Looks nice, but this cannot be trusted. Replace by glass, closed bottles in fridge.
- Ahmed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (8/5): Well-located and comfortable guesthouse in Lilongwe - Bamboo has the best beds. They are big, dressed in crisp white bed-linen and under a canopy of mosquito netting. Perfect for a good night’s sleep.
WiFi was also good and reliable.
- Hugo (8/5): Very good -
- Charlene (7/5): Good -
- Khahliso (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clem (9/5): Superb -
- Nic (8/5): Very good - Comfortable, friendly and good food! Location is a bit far from everything
- Lindani (7/5): I will remember Bamboo Botique Hotel for my next visit to Lilongwe. - The restaurant location is good and breakfast was very good. I was happy and comfortable. The staff are very friendly. I got to the hotel with a terrible flu and they offered me ginger which was very kind. My room was a bit squashed. Getting around the bed to open the window was difficult. I am not sure if there are bigger rooms. I would have opted for a bigger one.
- Emmanuel (9/5): Superb -
- Marga (9/5): Superb -
- Dakalo (10/5): It was exceptional - Everything , from the room to the hospitality Nothing
- Jeannine (6/5): Pleasant - It was very clean Didn’t really care for the location, nothing around it in terms of restaurants if you didn’t have a car. No additional amenities at the facility. Not much ambiance. Mattress was extremely hard and not a comfortable sleep
- Mamwere (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (10/5): Excellent. Will stay in the same hotel if I return to Lilongwe. - The breakfast was delicious and made separately with care. The lunch and dinner could be cooked a bit faster. Having said that, the meals were excellent. The staff was very friendly.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely staff, comfortable bed, beautiful setting
- Maria (9/5): Confort in a very convenient location. - The restaurant had vegan/ vegetarian options, which was a bonus for me. N/A
- Umesh (10/5): Excellent value for money - CLEAN, LARGE WELL MAINTAINED ROOM. EXCELLENT FOOD AT THE RESTAURANT. THE TWO LADIES AT THE RECEPTION WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND ALWAYS HELPFUL. THE SRI LANKAN CHEF WAS TOO GOOD. MY COLLEAGUE AND I TRIED ALL THE ITEMS IN THE MENU. EVERYTHING WAS FANTASTIC. THE WAITERS - ESPECIALLY SAMUEL, WERE VERY HOSPITABLE. EVEN THE GM, MR. SARATH WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO MAKE US FEEL AT HOME. The food was so good that we hoped they had a bigger menu
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
