- Raha (10/5): Super ! - Séjour au top ! L’odeur des draps de lit laissait penser que le lavage n’avait pas été réalisé correctement
- Marie (9/5): Un expérience inoubliable ! - Tout était parfait ! Le lieu est calme et magique ! Des singes et autres animaux sont visibles autours des différentes lodges et sur le sentier menant à la plage juste en face de l’hôtel. Cette plage est grande et magnifique ! L’hôtel est cette un peu difficile d’accès mais n’est ce pas le prix à payer pour être au cœur de la nature, proche des animaux et du parc national de Corcovado ? De plus, le personnel très gentil et chaleureux s’est toujours rendu disponible pour nous aider à porter nos bagages de l’endroit où le bateau nous a déposé (playa San Josecito) jusqu’à l’hôtel et de l’hôtel vers le bateau. Les repas faits maison avec produits frais était eux aussi excellents !

Im Vorfeld komplizierter Online- Check-In, der letztlich vollkommen unbeachtet blieb- der hier angekündigte Wunsch, einen Tauchausflug zu machen, wurde vollkommen ignoriert, sodass es vor Ort zu spät war für die Organisation. Bei der Ankunft erhielt man zunächst eine 10- minütige Unterweisung der NotToDo's wie in einer Jugendherberge (kein Glas auf dem Zimmer, nicht unter Palmen stehen- man könnte von einer Kokosnuss getroffen werden, ...). Der angeblich kostenlose Koffertransportdienst für die 1km am Strand vom Parkplatz zur Lodge musste trotz anderslautender Angaben mit 10$ pro Weg und Gepäckstück extra bezahlt werden, da unsere Koffer angeblich über 25kg wogen- nicht, dass wir sie gerade für den Flug mehrfach gewogen haben (17kg)... Sämtliches Essen ließ zu wünschen übrig: für 2 Linsenpuffer und ein Kokosküchlein in Briefmarkengröße zum Diner 20$ zu verlangen, ist unverschämt. Auch das Frühstück war sehr übersichtlich. Der als so speziel angekündigte Vibe des Ortes wurde durch die herrische und schnippische Art der Gastgeberinnen zerstört.

- REGIS (3/5): En dehors de ces points, nous tenons à souligner que le reste du séjour s’est déroulé dans d’excelle - Bonjour Je me permets de vous contacter concernant notre récent séjour à l’établissement Océane Forest Écolo, réservé via votre plateforme. Avant toute chose, nous tenons à souligner que le personnel sur place a été très professionnel, accueillant et bienveillant. C’est d’ailleurs pour cette raison que nous avons choisi de rester malgré plusieurs difficultés rencontrées. Cependant, de nombreux éléments essentiels n’étaient pas mentionnés dans l’annonce Booking, ce qui a fortement impacté notre expérience : 1. Accessibilité extrêmement contraignante L’établissement est uniquement accessible à pied, nécessitant de parcourir plus d’1 km sur la plage, dans le sable, avec des bagages. Cette information n’était pas clairement précisée, et cela a été particulièrement difficile en pleine chaleur. 2. Conditions d’accès non transparentes avant réservation L’accessibilité réelle ne nous a été précisée que plusieurs jours après la réservation. Il nous a alors été indiqué qu’un véritable 4x4 était nécessaire pour traverser deux rivières, avec une conduite en milieu difficile nécessitant une expérience confirmée. Nous attirons votre attention sur le fait que, selon vos conditions, toute annulation à ce stade entraînait une retenue de 50 % du montant du séjour. Ces contraintes majeures devraient impérativement être mentionnées en amont dans l’annonce. À défaut, cela implique des frais supplémentaires, notamment via une alternative d’accès par bateau. 3. Réseau et communication très limités Le réseau et le Wi-Fi étaient extrêmement faibles. Même notre routeur personnel ne captait aucun signal, ce qui nous a notamment empêchés de communiquer efficacement notre arrivée. 4. Isolement total non mentionné Aucun commerce ni possibilité de s’approvisionner à proximité. Cet isolement extrême n’était pas clairement indiqué dans l’annonce. 5. Équipements insuffisants • Absence de réfrigérateur dans les chambres • Obligation de se rendre à la réception pour accéder à de l’ea Cependant, plusieurs éléments essentiels n’étaient pas mentionnés dans l’annonce Booking, ce qui a fortement impacté notre expérience. L’accessibilité s’est révélée très contraignante : l’établissement est uniquement accessible à pied après plus d’1 km sur la plage avec des bagages, ce qui est particulièrement difficile en pleine chaleur. Ces conditions, ainsi que la nécessité éventuelle d’un 4x4 pour traverser des rivières ou d’un accès par bateau, n’ont été précisées qu’après la réservation, alors qu’une annulation impliquait déjà des frais. Par ailleurs, le manque de réseau, l’isolement total (aucun commerce à proximité) et l’absence d’informations claires à ce sujet ont été problématiques. Concernant les équipements, l’absence de réfrigérateur dans les chambres et l’accès limité à l’eau potable sont contraignants. De plus, les tarifs de restauration n’ont pas été communiqués à l’avance, ce qui manque de transparence. Enfin, l’absence de système de fermeture sécurisé ou de coffre dans les chambres ne permet pas de garantir la sécurité des effets personnels. Dans l’ensemble, cet établissement correspond davantage à une expérience isolée ou “off-grid”, ce qui peut convenir à certains voyageurs, mais aurait dû être clairement indiqué dans l’annonce. Nous réservons régulièrement via votre plateforme et avons toujours été satisfaits. Toutefois, cette expérience ne correspondait pas à nos attentes, notamment au regard du prix payé. Dans ce contexte, nous souhaiterions solliciter un geste commercial afin de compenser ces désagréments.

- Maria (1/5): This was the worst experience of our holiday and really ruined our experience of Osa Peninsula. Eli, the manager assured - Nice jungle location Overpriced for what it is. Manager extremely rude and unhelpful. We booked a trip for 336 USD. The manager failed to book the trip or give us any information. We lost a day and when tried to discuss this with the manager, her response was extremely rude and she tried to put blame on us. Other staff members were horrified by her condescending tone and behaviour. As a result we decided to change hotels before the end our our stay. We moved to Bahia Drake where the staff were much more helpful. Dinners cost 25 USD and lunch 20 USD - very overpriced for a plate of lentils, but there is no option to cook food yourself so you have no choice but to eat there.

- Gil (9/5): A bittersweet stay in Ocean Forest Eco Lodge - The room was very nice, big open balcony to nice lush vegetation. location remarkably good. The entire grounds are beautifully gardened and we really enjoyed it. We were 3 people. We spent more than 3 weeks in wonderful Costa Rica. Unfortunately, here the food is a major problem, specially since the place is secluded. Breakfasts are quite minimal and not satisfying. Dinner costs 25 dollars per person with no choice at all, you don't know what you're going to get. We had a dinner on our first night which was inedible. Pork with a bone and full of lard, covered with quite hot sauce which later we realized that it was Mexican chocolate mole. We returned our plates full and went to sleep hungry and disappointed. Quite inadequate to a place in such price range and level. We asked if there's anywhere else we can dine nearby, got a negative answer, however when we hiked around, we found the Sunset restaurant about 7 minutes walking where we had wonderful lunch and dinner there to our choice, with excellent atmosphere for less then 75 dollars. We felt deceived. Also since there is no car or vehicle access, we had to pay extra 30 dollars coming and going (total of 60 dollars) on top of the accommodation for carrying our luggage from our drop off point. Also gave a feeling that we are taken advantage of. Bottom line excellent stay because of the location and the place but with some major issues that the place has and should be correcting to stand up to its pretensions.
- Andrea (10/5): Willkommen im Paradies - Das kleine ruhige Hotel ist umgeben von einem traumhaften Garten und hat eine fantastische Lage direkt am Strand (nicht zum Baden geeignet wegen Strömung und keine Schattenplätze). Die Sonnenuntergänge sind traumhaft. Die Gastgeber und Mitarbeitenden sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, wir haben uns sofort wohlgefühlt. Wir hatten einen Meerblick-Bungalow-ein Traum!! Man muss wissen, dass man hier im Dschungel ist und die Bungalows nicht dicht sind. Wer also abends Licht im Zimmer an hat, bekommt Besuch von Insekten. Daher das Moskito-Netz am Bett am Besten immer geschlossen lassen und Moskito-Spray dabei haben. Wir haben die Abende am Restaurant genossen und sind erst zum Schlafen ins Zimmer. Die Wellen und die Frösche sind teils sehr laut, daher ggfs. Ohrstöpsel für Leute mit leichtem Schlaf empfohlen. Uns hat hier besonders die Ruhe gefallen, man ist wirklich im Paradies. Zum Badestrand läuft man ca. 15 Minuten über einen schönen, aber unebenen Weg (für Leute mit Mobilitätseinschränkungen nicht empfohlen) und hat dann einen Strand fast für sich allein-einfach traumhaft. Unbedingt auf Sonnenschutz achten, wir hatten trotz Baum-Schatten den übelsten Sonnenbrand. Auf dem Rückweg können einem Nasenbären, die Affenfamilie oder auch Aras begegnen. Das Absetzen und Abholen mit dem Boot erfolgt ebenfalls dort, je nach Wellengang kann man bis Knie oder Oberschenkel nass werden (Badeschuhe empfohlen). Für uns war es das absolute Paradies und wir würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Unsere Fragen an das Hotel über Booking.com wurden erst spät beantwortet, das könnte schneller sein. Wenn man das Hotel aber direkt über die eigene Website anschreibt, gibt es sofort alle Informationen und Links zu Ausflügen und Transfer.

I Should have been picked up at the beachfront but no one was there, so I walked on the beach side but that was a little inconvenient and took me more than 45min because I didnt know that was a Path next to the beach. We paid €500 for two nights in a beach bungalow, which honestly isn’t worth even half of that amount. The owner/manager wasn’t present and not helpful at all over messages. We got a payment link through an Australian bank, over €50 was taken just in transaction fees and no one mentioned this before. On top of that, they charged us an additional €50 for dinner that we never even requested, and it took them two weeks to refund that money. Everything felt very disorganized, and you are basically pressured into booking meals with them every day. The room was not clean and there was no hot water. Honestly, a big disappointment. The staff were very kind, and the camp atmosphere itself is nice, but everything else gets a big zero.
- Monique (1/5): Uiterst teleurstellend - De lieve mensen in de keuken. Wij hebben Ocean Forest geboekt op basis van de beoordelingen, maar onze ervaring was helaas zeer teleurstellend. Op meerdere essentiële punten klopt de werkelijkheid niet met wat wordt gesuggereerd. Er is geen warm water, wat vooraf nergens duidelijk wordt vermeld. De wandeling vanaf de boot naar de accommodatie bedraagt minimaal twintig minuten, en deze wandeling moet voor iedere excursie telkens opnieuw worden gedaan, via het strand. Dit maakt alles onnodig omslachtig en belastend. De zogenaamde luxe strandhut is in werkelijkheid zeer klein en absoluut niet luxe. De accommodatie is extreem basic en staat in geen verhouding tot wat wordt beloofd of verwacht mag worden. Het wekt de indruk dat de oorspronkelijke plannen en ambities veel hoger waren, maar dat het project nooit is afgemaakt tot het niveau dat wordt gecommuniceerd. Wat het extra teleurstellend maakt, is de houding van de eigenaresse. Waar het contact in eerste instantie prettig was, sloeg dit om in een afstandelijke en zakelijke, soms zelfs onaangename benadering. Er was weinig sprake van echte gastvrijheid of meedenken. Met meer investering, eerlijkere communicatie en een betrokken gastvrouw zou deze plek potentie kunnen hebben, maar op dit moment vinden wij de ervaring de prijs en verwachtingen niet waard.
- Cinzia (3/5): Absolut nicht empfehlenswert! Es ist kein 3 Sterne Hotel! - Der Strand und die Natur dort sind unglaublich. Bonnie war sehr nett und der Koch hat sich sehr viel Mühe gegeben. Ansonsten würde ich es wirklich keinem empfehlen! Also 1. Ist die Kommunikation richtig schlecht. Sie schreiben bei Fragen sehr lange nicht zurück oder sehr unfreundlich. 2. Wir sind per Boot angereist. Dort angekommen, stand niemand da um uns abzuholen(wie eigentlich versprochen). Somit liefen wir 15 Minuten über Stock und Stein durch den Wald ohne dass jegliche Beschielderung angebracht war. 3. WICHTIG ZU WISSEN: DAS ZIMMER KANN NICHT ABGESCHLOSSEN WERDEN! 4. Keine Fenster, es ist alles mit so Netzen geschlossen, was dazu führt dass es sehr laut ist in der Nacht. 5. Bett sehr sehr unbequem, keine Klimanlage nur einen alten Ventilator der sehr laut ist und nicht verstellbar ist. 6. Lunch kostet 20 Dollar und Dinner 25! Du kannst aber nicht auswählen was du essen willst. Also wenn man pech hat, hat man auch keine andere Auswahl. Geschweige denn von sonstigen Getränken ausser Wasser. 7. Zimmer wurden nicht sauber gemacht nach der 1. Nacht. Ich schreibe sehr ungern eine schlechte Bewertung aber ich denke man muss überprüfen wie man da die Sterne vergeben hat. Unsererseits war es ganz sicherlich kein 3 Sterne Hotel höchstens ein Hostel. Für den Preis den wir pro Nacht bezahlt haben ist es eine Frechtheit. Wir reisten vorher ab und verloren somit auch noch unser Geld.

Paradiesisch Das Häuschen war äusserst gemütlich und ruhig inmitten des schönen Gartens gelegen. Von unserer Terasse aus konnten wir die Kapuzineräffchen aus nächster Nähe beobachten. Das Essen ist ein Traum … Ausser dem Frühstück hatten wir Lunch und Dinner. Es war immer ausgezeichnet. Wir liessen uns meistens von den Tageskreationen des Koches überraschen und waren nie enttäuscht - es war immer vorzüglich.. Das ganze Team um Eli ist einfach großartig - äusserst hilfbereit und immer freundlich 🥰 Erwähnen möchte ich die tollen und menschenleeren Strände. Sei es der Strand vor der Türe oder der benachbarte Playa de San Josecito, auf dem wir einige Aras beobachten konnten und auch das warme Wasser und den Strand nur wärmstens empfehlen konnten. Wir buchten 2 Touren und können auch diese nur weiterempfehlen: - Schnorcheln auf Cano Island - eine kleine Wanderung im Nationalpark Corcovado - Sirena Station Wir würden jederzeit wieder buchen 🥰
- AGNES (6/5): Un paradis loin de la civilisation. - lieu insolite avec un cadre exceptionnel aussi beau qu'un parc, la flore et les arbres impressionnants avec des singes , des oiseaux les uns plus beaux que les autres, Le chants des oiseaux le matin et le soir. la vue de l'océan. Nous étions presque seuls au monde , tranquillité absolute ( début de la saison décembre 2025 ). Une petite chambre ne possédant pas de table ni de chaise, Il n'y avait pas d'armoire. l'eau pour la douche est froide. Nous avons mangé 2 fois à midi ( très simple rien d'exceptionnel, sans dessert, ni fromage , presque identique les deux jours ). il manque un bar ou un service pour des cocktails. le petit déjeuné est à améliorer. Un basse saison les restaurants servent le minimum

- Jan (6/5): Yes ECO - but saved on the wrong places... - Beautiful set up - jungle/beach on your doormat. Management & staff wonderful. Great bed linen & towels. While the staff worked wonderfully with what they got, I guess the owner needs to recalibrate place & situation. We had a 25sqm room under the roof (which obviously heats up during the day) and one small wall mounted ventilator - I get the ECO, but why save on ventilators? Even the breakfast/dining area doesn't have a ventilator - why?? Why ruin such a beautiful setup by saving on the tiniest investments? The food was very basic, not bad, but boring. Could easily be memorable, just not up to date with Costa Rican standards. Remoteness vs. status quo is not an excuse for these prices. Three nights for a family of three for 1000$ is illusional...
- Tobias (10/5): Einmalige Unterkunft mit wunderschöner Landschaft - Ein unglaublich schönes Juwel am Ende der Welt. Das Personal ist unglaublich freundlich und bemüht, auch wenn man selbst nur Englisch spricht (Teile des Personals sprechen nur Spanisch). Wir haben vor Ort Vollpension gehabt, wenn wir keine Ausflüge hatten. Das Essen ist wirklich ausgezeichnet und mit sehr viel Liebe gekocht. Die Anlage ist sehr gepflegt und es gibt viele wilde Tiere. Die Zimmer sind wunderschön und mit sehr viel Liebe eingerichtet. Die Wände aus Holz schließen nicht vollständig, sodass Tiere durchaus zu Besuch kommen. Es gab kein warmes Wasser zum Duschen. Und natürlich keine Klimaanlage ;-) Dafür aber jede Menge Natur, den Ozean vor der Tür und die wunderschönsten Strände direkt vor der Nase. Wer den Luxus sucht, wird sicher enttäuscht werden, aber dafür gibt es zum Glück genügend Resorts an anderen Ecken des Landes. Dieser Stop war einer unserer Highlights auf der Reise. Und die Bemühungen für eine saubere Umwelt werden hier zum Glück wirklich sehr Ernst genommen. Überhaupt nichts. Das Team ist unendlich bemüht und die Natur einmalig. Selten so eine tolle Unterkunft erlebt.

- Allen (9/5): If you’re looking for a good base from which to explore Corcovado, this is a great choice. Be prepared to eat at least - The Ecolodge is well located away from civilization and close to Corcovado NP. The boat ride from Sierpe is thrilling, as well as the beach landing. The hotel sent two staff to carry our luggage from the landing, which is a 15 minute walk and was much appreciated. The accommodation was pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. No hot water, but you don’t want or need it. It’s the tropics! Breakfast and dinner were fine, again, nothing fancy since all supplies arrive once per week via a road with several stream crossings. Staff were very helpful and friendly, led by Elizabeth the on- site manager. Kudos to her for leading a professional team. The beach is fantastic, best to hit the surf at low tide if you want to ride waves…they break farther out avoiding the rough sand close to shore. Many people have commented on the value proposition of what you get versus the cost. Our thought is that it was a “wee-bit” overpriced, but we recognize the remote location and difficulty in getting supplies and staff in and out, so only a minor beef.

Die Preise sind zu hoch! USD 7.- (+ 13% Steuer, + 10% Service) für eine kleines Bier, und USD 9.- für frisch gepresste Säfte (ebenfalls + Nebenkosten).

L’accueil très attentionné de la famille de Victor y est pour beaucoup, quelle gentillesse ! Et l’emplacement est juste extraordinaire de beauté, de sérénité. On se retrouve hors du temps, libre d’aller et venir dans des jardins somptueux remplis d’une faune très vivante. Chaque jour passé est une nouvelle découverte, le tout baigne dans une atmosphère de douceur et de luxuriance. Un rêve !
- Nadia Tinghøj Andersen (7/5): Pura vida ophold! - Vi havde et fantastisk ophold på 4 overnatninger. Vi elskede stedet fordi det var så afsides og værterne var utrolig venlige. Man har en oplevelses af at være langt væk fra alting og man kommer helt ned i tempo på dette sted - fantastisk! Værterne er en venlig familie som selv bor på stedet, og de er derfor altid klar til at hjælpe.De taler ikke engelsk, og der der derfor godt at kunne et par gloser spansk eller have en oversætter med. Der blev lavet god og lokal mad, værelserne blev gjort rene hver dag, gode blæsere på værelserne, smukke balkoner med abe-besøg dagligt, gode senge med myggenet. Vi bookede en tur til Corcovardo nationalpark og en tur med snorkling til Caño Island på forhånd gennem hotellet - begge to vanvittig gode oplevelser, som vi vil anbefale andre. Du kan ikke bade i havet lige ved boligen, da der er er for meget strøm. Men der er smuk solnedgang og vi så pukkelhvaler springe fra stranden i juli. Du kan også gå en 30 min. aftentur i mørket på stranden, hvorfra der er chancer for at bioluminescence! Du kan også gå 20 min langs stranden i modsatte retning, hvor du kan bade og hvor du bliver sat af/samlet op hver gang du tager på bookede ture. Vi holdte af gå-turen hvor vi ofte så aber eller andre dyr. Du kan også trekke i området- der er en fin rute hvis du har god tid. Men hav rigeligt drikke og snacks med, da der er varmt og ikke er noget at købe på ruten. Vi fik afvide inden opholde, at de kun tog imod kontanter, men det viste sig, at de godt kunne tage Mastercard hvilket var godt, hvis du ikke havde fået hævet nok penge med til maden og drikkevarer. Alt i alt et vidunderligt ophold! Der var ikke så meget tryk på vandet i badet hvilket gjorde, at badet tog lang tid (hvis du har tykt hår/langt hår).

- Mike (8/5): Ocean Forest is a gateway to the Corcovado NP, for the adventurous traveller - The location and setting right on the edge of Corcovado NP was worth the considerable effort of getting here. We enjoyed the very chilled vibe and access to the fantastic beach which offered wonderful sunsets. We also the ocean view from our cabin and wildlife all around us. The staff were very helpful in organising tours and providing information and the tour company they use is excellent. The whole stay including the journey there and back by boat from Sierpe felt like a travel adventure. You WILL get wet on this trip and all the tours, and the walk from the beach drop-off point to the hotel IS 20 minutes along a forest track so be prepared for the adventure The accommodation was clean and comfortable but fairly basic for the price. The food provided was simple and tasty but there was no choice and they obviously struggled to accommodate restricted diets. Thankfully there was a pretty good restaurant along the beach. Nevertheless we will treasure our memories of the adventure.
- Sarah (10/5): - Consider this more of a rustic camping-like experience. Cabins have screens, but bugs still come in. Incredible location! Spider monkeys were swinging above our cabin every morning, holwers start up at day break, and capuchins befriended us at the beach. Scarlett macawas everywhere, we saw them constantly, as well as toucans. The beach immediately out front is wavy and rough, but my kids still jumped in the waves daily. The highlight is San Josecito beach, a 17 minute walk along the ocean. It is a calmer bay with a reef and plenty of fish. We swam with a 4-5 foot sea turtle for half an hour. This place was deserted until noon every day. Food was excellent, fresh and traditional. They make fresh fruit juices daily! Staff are very lovely and go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. It was a very memorable part of our trip and we felt fully immersed in the jungle at ocean forest.

- Elsa (9/5): Absolutely magical!!! - The location is AMAZING!! It’s so peaceful and beautiful! There’s so much nature and it’s right on the beach. Every day a group of white faced capuchin monkeys would come to the tree just outside our balcony which was magic! We saw many other types of monkey, red macaws and toucans all in the lodge’s ground. The lodge was also able to organise tours where we went snorkelling and saw turtles and a humpback whale as well as a trip into the national park where we saw a tapir. The staff are lovely and the meals are yummy and made with fresh local produce. Your room is also cleaned daily. Overall, a fabulous place! I’d love to visit again! Air con would be good in the cabins but I understand as an ecolodge this may not be in keeping with sustainability goals. They each have a very powerful fan which was fine. Also given the fact you’re staying in a cabin in the rainforest, be prepared that the occasional critter might pop up in your room if you leave the light on at night (moths, gecko etc). It’s all part of the jungle experience but if this would scare you then be aware!

Rooms were nice with a strong fan and bug net. No wifi from the room, but good wifi in common spaces. Food was great with wine for a good price. Great views and right along the beach No hot water, so cold showers. This is pretty common, but something to note.

- Bob (9/5): We had a blast here! And it’s a beautiful place on a unique location - The boat trip to san Josecito beach, and the walk to the lodge was a great adventure every time. The location is in a great spot to do the available tours in the area (such as visit Corcovado national park). Gustavo helped us with booking all the tours which was great. The rooms were awesome and gave a real jungle feeling but were still comfortable. We got upgraded to the beach view room free of charge and this view was great. The surrounding feels very remote along a beautiful beach and has a beautiful garden with lots op facilities to relax which was great after done a tour. We got well taken care of during breakfast and dinner. Also, we saw many monkeys, birds, and butterflies at this place. After a thunderstorm or heavy rainfall the power went off at times.

- Ellenjane93 (8/5): Lovely stay, a few tweaks to be perfect - You are truly in the middle of nature which is amazing. We loved how the rooms had green netting instead of windows, so no bugs could get in but it felt as though you were literally in the middle of the jungle. The balcony area with hammock and comfortable chair was lovely for relaxing on. We saw Scarlett macaws and capuchin monkeys on the property. All the staff are extremely sweet, friendly and helpful. The meals are a fixed menu but we loved all the food, everything was delicious and they give you huge portions so we were never hungry. I think a few signposts along the walk to get there would be good. During the walk it was a little stressful not knowing if we were going the right way. Main issue was cleanliness - for the price we felt it would be more clean and tidy. I found quite a few hairs in the bathroom on the shower wall upon arrival.
- Philippa (9/5): Superb - We really enjoyed our time here. The 3 course meals were absolutely delicious and varied each night. In fact some of the best food we had in Costa Rica mainly because they were plentiful in vegetables/salad! We were staying in the stilted beachfront cabin which was spotlessly clean and had a very comfy bed. I thought it might be a bit creepy (small critters coming in etc.) but it wasn’t at all like that. It was well sealed and felt ok. The sound of the ocean at night was great too. We hiked on a crazy trail to the far point (in the direction of another resort called Jungle Jaguar) and did a canoe tour up the Rio Claro with the guy running the hostel next door. That was fun. The beach directly in front of Ocean Forest is not safe for swimming but the neighbouring beach is fine and the river was lovely. We spent a fair bit of time in the hammocks at the main building - very comfy and relaxing. They were the perfect place to watch all the birdlife in the big palm each morning and at dusk. We saw lots of Scarlet McCaws from there. The couch in the living area felt somewhat damp and didn’t seem to get aired or brushed each day so wasn’t that usable.

- Cristina (9/5): Perfect break away from crazy world. - Dream remote location ! Very clean and silent place . Very good food. No need to bring much staff with you, especially that is hard with loading/unloading (boat) and also 20’ walk until the lodge. Fixed/short time for dinner, too early start made us run a lot not to miss the dinner as there are no other options at that time. Being in an exptic place, i would have enjoyed more fruits and cocktails to buy.
- Dean (6/5): We were there 4 days and 3 nights. Snorkeled and hiked. - The food was middling. Hearty but bland. But the setting is quite remote, so there aren't many other options nearby. It was challenging to get to. We took a plane from San Jose, then an hour taxi ride on a rough road to a point on the beach. Then a 20 minute or so walk in the tropical heat of the afternoon, on the beach to the lodge. For me, at 70, it was a bit more effort than I had anticipated. For younger, fitter people it would be part of the adventure.
- Susan (10/5): Magical paradise with the warmest of welcomes. You will acclimatise in less than 12 hours and then never want to leave! - We can’t recommend this place highly enough! If you want an out of the way, back to nature, immersive experience, this is the place for you. The property is lovely and rustic, the staff are warm and welcoming and the food is tasty. Everything about this place has the environment as its focus so if you want multiple menu choices, air con etc then this is not the place for you. I would hate for this place to get bad reviews because of people’s personal expectations. You are truly immersed in the jungle. The noises at dawn and dusk are exhilarating (and noisy!), the bird and animal life all around you is constant and easy to spot. The beaches are clean and the walk along the coastline is dramatic and beautiful. Our first day took us along the coast to the Rio Claro river to relax and swim there. We saw a troop of monkeys come to drink and scarlet macaws flew overhead constantly. It felt like paradise! Our second day took us on a tour with Picolina Tours to Cocovado National Park - such a fun boat trip! You will get wet so take beach shoes and then hiking boots to change into. Take no food or plastics with you. The park is stunning and the guides are so knowledgeable. How they spot the wildlife is very impressive! We lost count of the number of birds and animals we saw…from Tapirs to Howler Monkeys, Crocodiles to Toucans…the list goes on. We stopped for a tasty lunch at Sirena Lodge and the second part of our hike was just as fruitful as the first with many bird and animal encounters. On day three we took the Catamaran snorkelling tour with Pirate Drake to Cano Island. What a trip! The staff were friendly and.fun. We saw dolphins on the way to the island and the smelling was amazing! Green turtles (magical to swim alongside them) and parrot fish as well as white tipped shark and so many other beautiful tropical fish! We had a gorgeous fresh lunch on the trip back to San Josecito beach - just a short walk from Ocean Forest. This was our fault and nothing to do with the property. It is remote for a reason - it makes it more special. However, a word to the wise, don’t drive like we did. Take the ferry from Sierpe! We thought by driving we would have flexibility but in truth the drive is long and the roads are not great. Forgo flexibility for a more comfortable journey there - you will thank us!

- Yi-ling (4/5): Disappointing - Friendly staff. Wonderful paradise location, and you really get the out-of-this-world jungle feeling that you'd be looking for. Very secluded and you see monkeys and hear birds from your room. However, $200 USD per night is simply too high to justify the basic room (no A/C or hot water) that were not always cleaned nicely. Food is delicious but small portion. Not much facilities (e.g. no more yoga class and the yoga hall seems a bit abandoned).

I came to Costa Rica for nature and life experience… and I don ´t understand people (this message is for them) who are complaining about the food, insects, no restaurants etc. It makes me really upset… you are in tropics, there all kind of critters leaving here. So if you need luxury, go to all inclusive Hilton Resort or stay at home!

- Piotr (4/5): Great location, but this place is not ready to host any guests - Great location on an isolated beach with only 1 daily boat connection to larger Drake Bay. Few human beings and variety of wildlife. Beautiful garden There are only a few other premises on that beach and no shops, restaurants, etc, which means you are pretty much stuck up with those guys during your stay when it comes to food & water. The food they served was terrible. They asked me if I had any food alergies in the beginning. I said no onions. What do I get for my first meal? Scrambled eggs with onions and rice & bean with onions. The water they serve had really bad taste. They tried to mask it by putting limes to the water tank, but it just wasn't fresh. This is the biggest problem I had with those guys because unless you carried with you gallons of fresh water, you either drink what they serve or dehydrate. I recently finished my 3 night stay with them, and I am currently having food/water poisoning symptoms. It could happen elsewhere, but given the above, I bet high chances it's them. The manager runs approx. 8 lodges but had issues tracking who signed up for Corcovado Tour. One day, he confirms the spots for us, next one, he leaves us uncertain for hours because he doesn't know if it's us or a different group. In the end, we did that tour, but different group had same issue and they end up going on a tour they didn't want. (San Pedrillo instead of Sirena). Don't bring your own food because you will be swarmed with cockroaches with no time. Like I said, you are stuck with those guys when it comes to food, really, bad food.
- Jestrab (9/5): We enjoyed the people we met and the beautiful serenity of being right on the beach! - The staff was so nice and accommodating. Victor met us at the beach and walked us to the hotel. The kitchen staff made delicious meals and even made us coffee chorreador when we asked about it. The location is very remote and it was nice to disconnect in the forest and enjoy reading in a hammock, hiking and swimming in the Rio Claro, doing some yoga in their beautiful open air studio and enjoy the sound of the ocean waves and animals. It did have a fan in our little bungalow on the beach, but could get hot at night for sleeping.
- Jiri (8/5): Very good - the quality of the breakfast was fluctuating but we understand that this accommodation is ECO and all food must be used. So basically satisfaction The quality of lunch and dinner was also ok, but sometimes the portion sizes at one table were very different. Facilities were furnished sparingly but sufficiently. The surrounding nature and the sea were exactly as we imagined we didn't have a major problem, we just thought it was a bit overpriced, but that's the general attitude of ECO accommodation, that it's more expensive. - Susie (8/5): Remote hotel on the beach. Lovers of nature go!! - Amazing place right on remote beach. Full of incredible tropical plants. Staff were super lovely. Victor and his family are perfect. We fell in love with a little stray dog who we called pupa. I think she’s now living happily living with a family member.
- Jessica (8/5): Excellent - Great location with lovely healthy, homely meals made freshly each day. The cabin was quiet apart from birds, insects, monkeys and the sea. Would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere chilled out and enjoy snorkelling and swimming. We thought a couple of signs between San Jocesito beach and the lodge along the path would help weary travellers know where they were going!
- Nassim (6/5): 5 things I wish I knew before booking - The property is lovely and the staff and chef are absolutely fantastic. The management, however, is a different story. Ultimately we enjoyed our stay but here are a few things I wish I had known before I booked: 1) The location is TRULY REMOTE. The nearest mini-market is a 3+ hour walk/hike (or $30 taxi ride) away in Drake Bay. This is both good (you’re very close to wild, gorgeous nature) and bad (you’re basically dependent on the hotel for everything, including all meals, which are of course an extra charge). 2) Think of this as fancy camping or “glamping”. We upgraded to an ocean-front raised bungalow and spoke with others who stayed in similar rooms. We all had bats living with us in the roof/ceiling, and bat guano on the floor (which was dutifully cleaned by the staff every day). Disclaimer: I love bats. But they are loud and bat guano stinks. You are basically living with nature. Although you’re surrounded by 4 walls and a roof, there are gaps in the window frames and screens and floorboards, etc, allowing all manner of insects to enter the room. Mosquito netting is provided over the bed, thankfully; you should tuck it under the mattress to be safe since you are literally living next to potentially venomous snakes, poisonous centipedes, etc. Also there is NO AIR CONDITIONING — just a single fan in the room — and if you’re unlucky like us, it might be 35C with 90% humidity during your stay. 3) Ocean Forest Ecolodge’s website descriptions of the tours cannot be trusted. They may tell you that your tour of Corcovado National Park includes lunch and transportation there and back; when you arrive you will learn that is not true and if you want the included lunch, it will be at Drake Bay and you’ll need to arrange a $30 taxi back to the hotel on your own. Or you can pay extra to have lunch at the hotel. 4) You will be pressured to reserve all meals far in advance of your stay, long before you know anything about this place. The website info is not reliable and the management leaves much to be desired. (To be clear, the staff and chef were wonderful. This negative comment is about the manager only, who was offsite throughout our entire 6 day stay.)
- Markus (10/5): unforgettable … a hidden Paradise - We found a true hidden Paradise: Harmonie between an undisturbed nature and us guest, very friendly hosts, wild animals around us, ecological comford and other guest from different nations that we shaired our views with. We found a harmonie between people and beautiful, stunning nature, great healty food every day … empty beaches. We are thankful that such an experience is possible. Even at the most hidden beach there are some pieces of plastic, people living there collect it constantly. So please let us all be aware of our behaviors.
- Patrick (6/5): Good beach and animal location but too remote. - We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our room was in trees facing the beach surrounded by frogs, monkeys, macaws and toucans. Breakfast was good. We found the hotel very difficult to access. We arrived after a long high speed boat ride from Sierpe which dropped us on a beach. We then had a 15 minute beach walk with our luggage because the boats can not land at the resort beach, where also it is not advisable to swim. Same problem leaving the resort. We found the dinner time at 6pm too restrictive with no menu choice.
- Heather (8/5): Very good - Great location for sunsets in the jungle/on the beach. There is a place to practice yoga and the screens in the room do a good job of preventing bugs from entering. There's a gorgeous river nearby where you can swim and see monkeys jumping from canopy to canopy. Communication was difficult. The woman who runs the place wasn't there (not sure whether she is ever there) and we were unable to book a spot in Corcovado park. Our international flight was delayed so we didn't make our domestic flight. They did not reimburse or discount anything from the night we missed.
- Helen (10/5): Perfect slice of paradise to relax in. - Idyllic location in the Osa rainforest, right next to the beach. It was a place to escape to, lovely cabins in the forest or overlooking the beach, with friendly staff and delicious light food. The mealtimes are communal so for this solo traveller it was great to chat to others at mealtimes. We all enjoyed them very much. A little piece of paradise. Will return.
- Blair (10/5): Exceptional - Truly paradise. We arrived and immediately experienced watching baby turtles enter the sea. It was not too difficult to get there (though it takes some effort); we were there with 69 and 72 year-old parents and they did fine! We had the garden cabin from which we could watch monkeys and toucans eating in a tree while laying in our hammocks. The yoga building is beautiful and there are lots of nice nooks to lay and read. We also got to use the surfboards one afternoon. Plenty of places to hike and things to do. The staff was very warm and helpful. Great vibes. The only thing that could be improved were a couple of the meals. Some were really excellent (the pumpkin dishes and desayuno típico!) but the pasta meals were not our favorites.
- New (4/5): Overall no good value for money. The beautiful location made not up for the very little comfort that was provided - The property is in a beautiful location between the jungle and the beach. Large bay with few people. Natural and authentic jungle experience. Friendly staff (mostly Spanish speaking except for the manager). 1. Value for money: We knew we booked an authentic jungle experience, but expected more comfort in a variety of ways for $170 per night. Everything seems massively overprized (pick up from Drake Bay airport to the beach for $60, each lunch / dinner for $15 p.p., each tour incl horse riding, snorkeling, corcovado jungle tour for $95-120 p.p). Also while we stayed at the hostel, the price for a bottle of simple red wine was increased from $25 to $30. It feels like they are trying to squeeze visitors as much as possible which is not a good feeling. Wifi is not available in the rooms. No sun lounger existing. Kayak boat did sink for another guest who was a professional sailor. Yoga matts in the yoga room are moldered and stinky due to humidity. 2. comfort vs jungle experience: We arrived at the beach and had to carry our 2 suitcases over the beach 20 mins to the hostel. We arrived when it was dark already and were given the last hut. The rooms have no air conditioning, beds are worn out and quite old. No glass windows, windows are covered with mosquito nets. It is very humid, touch any surface, it is wet, duvet covers are stinky due the humidity and so are all cloths which we brought. The hut is made out of simple wood with large cracks everywhere, expect that all animals of the jungle are also inside the hut. We had a large spider at the fridge, a snake living next to our entrance door, a huge tarantula spider in our shower, large crab in toilet area, ants are hundreds on the wooden floor, large geckos inside the hut as well. 3. Food No food choice, we paid $15 for a very basic local meal per person. Food style is repetitive. Rice with some meat and vegetables. 4. The experience If you are looking to live in a jungle camp, close to all animals very basic at a remote beautiful area over prized and ready to sweat day and night, its the right place to be.
- Nobuyuki (10/5): Paradise - Great food. Great location in front of beautiful beach. Very nice manager and staffs. Even their dogs were very friendly to visitors. We saw lots of colorful birds, and a group of monkeys in the property. This place was magical. None
- Jan (10/5): All beyond expectations. Advanture, paece, good food, lovely staff. - simplicy combined with sense for detail. End of the road in Paradise. Dislocated sancuary. Extreme humidity coming from the ocean and sky. Keep your clothing in closed plastic bags othewise you will wear it wet.
- Ariel (9/5): Superb - Amazing staff, extremely friendly and helpful, great food and really comfortable cabins despite being in the middle of nowhere. Overall conditions (wifi, electricity) are really good.
- Sara (9/5): Unique spot in the forest - Wilderness, animals, beach, location A bit pricy for the type of accommodation (no choice for dinner/lunch/breakfast, which was good anyway). Consider that you have to walk 15 minutes in the jungle when you get dropped off the boat.
