Guest Reviews
Einrichtung recht minimalistisch, nachbarliche Geräusche sind gut wahrnehmbar. Das Frühstück hat noch Luft nach oben.
- fiona (9/5): Unusual and attractive country lodge set in glorious scenery with excellent food and service. - Location perfect for exploring Tenorio. Attractive modern design unlike other hotels we stayed in in Costa Rica. Fabulous views of the garden and down the mountain. Attractive and thoughtful common areas for bird spotting and couches for reading. Best food we had in a hotel in Costa Rica. Nothing
Rien

- Maria Fernanda (10/5): - Todo. Las fotos no describen exactamente tanta belleza. Preciosos atardeceres. Excelente servicio. Desayuno muy original y fresco.
Habitación limpia y muy bonita.
- Cindy (8/5): A lovely place to hike and enjoy the rainforest. - Beautiful gardens close to trails and nicely nestled into the hillside. The breakfast was tasty and the dinners were also delicious. We enjoyed talking with the owner who is quite hospitable. It was all great.
- Diane (9/5): - Breakfast and dinner was very good. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed our stay. Beautiful grounds.
- Anneke (10/5): - Een mooie lodge in een mooie omgeving. Zeer vriendelijk personeel.
- Allan (10/5): Inspirational - Very creative , complimenting the breathtaking surroundings. The owner was such a wonderful person and the staff were so obliging. Wonderful indoor/outdoor feel to the place. Nothing not to like…
- Paul (10/5): Brillant!! - Location, Food & Comfort Nothing

- DYH Investments B.v (9/5): -
- Tronnes (10/5): A relaxing getaway into the rain forest for the active enthusiasts or those looking for a peaceful retreat. - The mountain rain forest location was beautiful and quiet. The view from your room was spectacular as well as from the common area. There was not a thing I found unpleasant or disliked.
- Peter (10/5): -
- Silke (9/5): Perfekter Ausgangspunkt für Besuch des Nationalparks - Sehr schöne Aussicht, tolle Lage zum Nationalpark, exzellentes Essen
- Kara (9/5): Our family LOVED our stay! The location is so unique and amazing, plus the staff are super helpful! - The location is AMAZING. You feel like you are in the jungle - from rooms with picturesque views to large panarama windows in the main area to the garden path. Fans would be great as standards in the rooms. Breakfast was very carb heavy, so would have liked more protein.
- alexandra (8/5): -
- P (7/5): Mooi uitzicht, goede ligging.
- Pablo (10/5): Amazing views and great comfort! - This place was one of the best I've stayed at in years. The view is unbeatable, breakfast is delicious, especially when you're surrounded by so many birds and nature. The room was beautiful, with the best views, all comfortable and good temperature. It was not their fault, but when I visited, the trail was closed due to wasps, and I couldn't do it. Will try again next time!
- Mads (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhonda (10/5): eco friendly unique design, excellent food, friendly staff, perfect location for rio celeste, -
- Desiree (9/5): Superb - Cool building Owner/Manager
- Retired (9/5): Superb - Very good food
- Romain (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grant (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fedor (9/5): Great location, - The breakfast and the dinner were excellent, the presentation was superb, the food was fresh and diverse. The grounds were impressive and the private trail allowed you to walk in the rainforest just two steps away from the hotel. They always have coffee and tea ready for you, the view from the dinning room is amazing, and so on…. There are many little things that make your stay there memorable. They don’t have heating and air conditioning. When the weather is good you don’t pay attention to that but in the rainy season you need it to keep things dry in order to be comfortable. And one more thing, the bathroom is too small in the room.
- Bruce (10/5): Peaceful, quiet and convenient to great nature and dining. - Wonderful, sustainable eco resort. Staff was superbly attentive. Rooms well maintained. Nothing
- Patricia (7/5): Good - Close to Tenorio I wished there was a way to sit outside , like a balcony.
- Kathrin (8/5): Could absolutely recommend it - The Staff and the Owner were very nice, helpful and understanding. We got tips, what to do and where to go for dinner, if we want to eat somewhere else. The food in their own restaurant was good, but most important was that everything was fresh, self-made and good taste. The room itself was not very big
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frederic (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful architecture, great design and decor
Great location and views
Staff very nice
Food delicious, thanks Eric and colleagues
Friendly owner, attentive and interesting
- Finley (7/5): Owned by ex patriot of Canada. Prices seems a bit much but I guess that’s the price of being a tourist. - The view and location.
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - It was very clean with a nice bird viewing deck.
- Franziska (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. The food was great. The property is beautiful. The private trail is really nice and the night tour we did there was great as well. Also watching the birds was great. We saw so many different birds.
- Thomas (10/5): Very beautiful and peaceful lodge with the kindest staff - The main host was such a nice guy and was super helpful. This lodge is very responsibly run and operates in a very eco friendly way
- Susan (9/5): Beautiful property and great location - Gorgeous grounds and great location. The garden was amazing to walk and bird watch. The staff was helpful and helped us Book tours. Nicely prepped meals with use local ingredients. Would be even better with overhead fans in the room.
- Paul (9/5): Fine location for our birding adventure, viisitng Las Heliconia Lodge trails and El Tapir Reserve. - Tico-fushion food, nicely presented. A fan in room; more clothes storage furniture.
- Dorota (9/5): Superb - Close to the national park, birds are singing all the time . Great personel and food.
- Carol (8/5): Very good - Beautiful views Everyone was served dinner at 7
- Brickl (10/5): Relaxing immersion in nature - Beautiful well maintained property and grounds, breathtaking views with gardens designed to attract hummingbirds and other birds and wildlife N/a
- Timothy (10/5): It was amazing!!! - Everything Nothing
- Joe (7/5): Great views and very clean hotel - The lodge has a beautiful 2.5 mile hiking trail across the street.
Our room was very clean as was the entire lodge. The lunch and dinner offerings were very good and it was a great opportunity for us to meet other guests. The views from the lodge were incredible as were the view of the beautiful gardens in front of the lodge.
The coffee was amazing!
The owner, Joel, was very nice to chat with and was very welcoming. The staff was very polite and considerate but they barely speak to the guests and don't smile. It felt like they were instructed to only interact with the guests as minimal as possible.
We arrived late afternoon and our room was incredibly hot but once the sun set the room cooled down. We knew there was no a/c when we booked our room. Opening the room door in the hall helped with a breeze coming through.
The gardens are beautiful, we wished there was seating available to enjoy them more.
The two days we stayed the breakfast consisted of a large loaf of bread, scrambled eggs and yogurt and oatmeal. We're not big bread eaters and it was the largest portion of the meal. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the breakfast a 5 and the lunch and dinner offerings a 10.
- Ji (7/5): Good - The staff and owner are very nice. Don’t miss the dinner there. Super good. No hot water in the morning.
- Jakub (8/5): Overnight close to La Fortuna - It was not luxury resort but really great place close to national park La Fortuna. Beautiful view on the garden and amazing breakfast & food.
- Elizabeth (10/5): If you are looking to experience the nature and culture of the area it is highly recommended - A unique experience. Food was excellent. The owner, really was our “host”, was very friendly and made us feel welcome and at home there.
- Cesare (10/5): Would definitely return. - The staff, the location and especially the quality of the food which was unexpected. The owner, Joel was very personable and informative.
- Stephane (10/5): Great experience - Location, friendly staff, fantastic food - both breakfasts and dinners.
- Bill (10/5): Fantastic !! - The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and treat you like family. The meals by far exceeded our expectations and the selection was perfect. The location was close to everything you may want to do in the area . Book early as it appeared to be always busy .
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - After nearly 2 weeks in beautiful properties all over the country, this one stood out as a real, though kind of luxe, immersion in the food, culture, and physical environment. Beautiful, sensitive, cool casual lodge architecture, amazing owner/host, abundant, terrific meals.
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed two nights, and the lodge is excellent. We had dinners both days, which were very good. Great staff. We enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder, some toucans showed up. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area. It was a bit misty and cloudy which is probably not unusual.
- Webb (8/5): It was relaxing and great location. - The staff and location were ideal. Would have liked WiFi in the room.
- Hans (10/5): Wonderful and refined lodge experience - This is a wonderful place to stay with an amazing history as one of the first lodges in the Tenorio National Park area. The French-style dinners are top-notch in creativity and quality, and are excellent value. The design and functionality of the rooms and facilities are very well done. Great location to visit the area. Make sure not to miss the chocolate tour they recommend in the area (good value and really well done), and we also liked the Cano Negro wildlife refuge trip, which is a bit of a drive if you have an extra day but the boat tour is very affordable for 4 and the place has amazing wildlife. Overall a great stay in a very interesting part of Costa Rica. Nothing!
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good - Beautiful setting with mountain views, expansive gardens, and private trails through rainforest. Delicious meals and friendly host. Sign up for the on-site night walk- it was a highlight of our trip!
- Jenny (10/5): amazing location with a wonderful view - Located in nature with a wonderful garden and great community area. The staff is really friendly and the food was amazing. Unfortunately I just stayed two nights there. I would have liked to stay much longer.
- Beth (10/5): One of the coolest places I’ve ever staued offering so many things to do close by. - First, the host “Joe” was so personable, friendly and entertaining, and made everyone feel welcomed and special. The staff was courteous and prompt regarding any requests- I loved that they had on site laundry available because we needed it after all the outdoor excursions. I appreciated the building itself so very much, not only was it built with such attention to detail and had a cool artistic vibe, but so much of the design had incorporated recycled materials in the decor in such a creative way…. Continuing the philosophy of living harmoniously with, and protecting the environment. Also the communal tables for eating their delicious meals lended to meeting other guests, and we enjoyed drinking coffee and watching a very active bird feeder from the super cool seats along the sliding windows.
Mostly I loved the random abstract garden , meticulously cared for and featuring so many hedges flowers and trees, and visible from the lodge windows. So cool. Nothing
- Kelcie (9/5): Superb -
- Lynnew (8/5): Very good - The gardens were beautiful - even though only a small percentage of the flowers were in bloom, each bloom was surprising and delightful. The dinners were creative and interesting, with an appetizer made from a traditional base ingredient (such as yucca) but with a nouvelle cuisine twist that made it excellent, and a dessert that was also unusual and tasty. Both nights we ate at the hotel there was only 1 choice for appetizer and dessert, and the same 4 choices for main course - probably because it was the off season and there were few guests at the hotel. More choices for dinner would have been better, but that was probably infeasible because we were there in the ariny season and there were few guests at the hotel.
- Tatty (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Can’t wait to return!!! - This property was in an amazing location near Rio Celeste waterfall with spectacular views. The open air eco-conscious eating and rest areas were done lovely. We enjoyed ever moment here and would definitely come again. Note: get the dinner/meals - the food is really fantastic. Nothing
- Carole (9/5): super, different and original. friendly and well maintained. beautiful garden and very quite area. - very original and relaxing nice architecture
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Anca (10/5): Paradise 5 minutes from Tenorio Park - Everything was absolutely amazing: the concept is innovative, the facilities are great and the location incredible. I suggest the full-board because the food is amazing! Thank you Chef Eric and his team! We stayed there in the evening watching the birds and we saw so many including the Toucan!! Great customer service, a wonderful team : Joel, the owner is almost always present and makes sure that things are great for everybody. It was a unique experience !
- Christine (9/5): A classy place with artistic flair! - Good location and amazing value for the cost, especially with full board. Staff were fun and appeared to love their jobs. Way too much food!! (= . I would not do full board again if staying multiple days as the french cuisine is way to rich for me, esp with the amount served. Always leave room for dessert tho. Simply amazing!
It would be nice to see some benches added to the garden so one can sit outside in the sun.
- Guillaume (10/5): Exceptional - Best lodge we've been during our stay in Costa Rica. Comfortable. Really amazing food. Best staff giving you suggestions and carrying for you. Quiet and appeasing.
- Jim (6/5): Outstanding food. Toxic pretentious vibe. - The food was outstanding. The atmosphere of the hotel was absolutely dreadful! It was that bad, I cut my stay short. The place has a toxic vibe about it. Very tense.
- Michael (10/5): Three days-a fabulous start to our three week vacation in Costa Rica. - Location, super positive attitude of al staff and the owner who was also omni-present, competitive cost to value ratio, high and diverse quality of the meals ( breakfast & dinner) served. The staff were always ready to « go the extra mile ». Nothing.
- Scott (10/5): completely exceeded our expectations - highly recommend for 1-2 nights on your next trip to Costa Rica! - Joel and his entire staff were amazing. Best dining experience around!! rooms are a little warm, no ac/fan, but cool down nicely at night with breeze.
- Magdalena (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place! Fantastic location, great host, super clean rooms and tasty breakfasts. Place to come back for sure.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Food was absolutely wonderful. Best food we’ve Had so far during trip
- Thanh (9/5): Superb - Great Ecolodge. The buiding is well integrated to the environment.
Stay for the diner: the diner was perfect simple room but it is fine
- Nasimul (7/5): Good -
- Foreman (9/5): Great food, beautiful grounds and a very friendly and knowlegable host. - The breakfasts and dinners were great. They have a very good chef. The location was excellent- an easy drive to the Park as well as to the town of Bijagua. The lodge was beautiful with nice common areas to sit, have a drink and look at all of the many plants growing inside of the lodge. The lodge also had large windows everywhere to look outside to see the spectacular grounds, manicured hedges and beautful flowers. They even had their own private hiking trail in the jungle.
- Nadia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laurent (9/5): Superb -
- Lance (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christy (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent hospitality, amazing food and idyllic location
- Holger (10/5): perfect stay for the volcano national parc - Wonderful French hospitality in the Costa Rica rainforest! -
- Agathe (8/5): Very good - The location, the ecological awareness of the place, the amazing common space with view, the meals ! Rooms a bit small for a family, the place is really not young kids friendly.
- Sia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rogelio (9/5): Great place to visit Rio Celeste - Location and gardens are awesome. And the food is great, would recommend to dinner in the hotel everyday. Host is an excellent person.
- Emily (10/5): spectacular stay, outstanding food, friendly welcoming staff, incredible hotel trail, a must stay place - the location was wonderful - incredible views of Tenorio National Park. the hotel has a fantastic free trail through the rainforest that is available to do alone. highly recommend this as it was just us on the trail and we saw capuchin monkeys which were fascinating to watch in the trees above. the trail was far better experience than the main touristy National park walks. hotel access was good - off a good paved road, good gravel road around site to parking. a particular highlight - the food! breakfast, lunch and dinner were all outstanding carefully thought out delicious meals and excellent value. the owner/host and staff are really friendly and happy to talk to you with recommendations and the background to the hotel. they have a reasonably priced laundry and dry service which was very needed as our wet clothes were struggling to dry in the rainforest! the room itself was great - some might think a bit basic bathroom, but for us it worked well and we loved hearing about the reasons for the window ventilation etc. the restaurant area is fantastic - areas to relax surrounded by plants, and seats overlooking the forest and birds and grounds. located very close to the Tapir Valley night tours (very welcome given driving the road in the dark) which we also recommend. nothing - we wish we could have stayed longer
- Andrew (9/5): Great hospitality and excellent local Costa Rican food - Excellent location. Warm and welcoming staff. The French owner has a passion Costa Rican food - the meals were both interesting and flavoursome. Thank you!
Amazing lookout and views.
Lovely hot showers, and had helpful services such as shoe drying and laundry service - done at rapid speed!
We really enjoyed the recommended chocolate tour - one of our highlights of costa rica so far.
The nearby blue lagoon walk was great - suggest go reasonably early to avoid the big tours groups. The lodge is uniquely and cleverly designed with numerous eco / recycled features - for example recyled inner tubes to make cushion covers and oil drum chairs - which is a brilliant ethos but did mean we found some furniture not so comfy. Therefore not really a hotel to lounge about in - but not a significant issue as lounging about isn't likely to be your reason for visiting the amazing Tenorio Volcano National Park region!
- Jens (10/5): Great place in harmony with nature! - Good rooms, nice staff and a great garden/view! Only the wifi was a bit low in the last room but it's good in the common area though!
- Madeline (9/5): Lovely facility, location, decor, and gardens. - Beautiful facility, garden and decor. The room had nice color scheme and enough electrical outlets. The food was tasty and sophisticated. Private walking trail with howler monkeys. The room needed more lighting such as floor lamps. One side of the room was pretty dark.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional -
