Guest Reviews
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - We were concerned when we booked this as it is off grid, and we were unsure how we would cope staying there for 4 nights in the middle of nowhere. It was absolutely fine though and we would strongly recommend the place. When you arrive, you leave your car at the Rangers office and walk 10 mins to the accommodation. Val and Ron, who run the place, were so helpful with guiding us there and helping to carry bags. They were so friendly and interesting to talk to about their life there. The house is lovely, being very well equipped, clean, and comfortable. It is very private, not being overlooked and surrounded by a large garden. The place is off grid, but there is solar powered USB point for phones, and WiFi is accessible at the Rangers office. Ice was delivered every morning to use in the Pelican cooler, which worked so well to keep everything cool. You need to take all the food with you as there are no restaurants in the local area. The pool is big and lovely to cool down in. The wildlife is amazing, just be prepared to share the accommodation with some of it, there is a small colony of bats in one of the bedrooms, which are harmless and don't bother you and are fascinating to watch. The bird dawn chorus is one we will never forget, so many sounds, along with the magical fire flies at night. Can't list everything we saw, but highlights including the swallow tailed kites, white hawk following the squirrel monkeys along the river. We sat by the river for 3 hours early one morning and let the wildlife come to us. We saw so much! It is a wonderful place and an experience we will never forget and are so glad we did. If you like wildlife, this is the place for you. This is not a negative, just informing that getting there off the main road took about 30 minutes slow drive on a bumpy flat gravel road. We didn't have a 4x4 which made it a slow journey. Signs to the place could be made more obvious, as locals spoke no English to help. The Bolita trials are quite challenging to walk, being quite steep in places that are difficult going in humid conditions. It's not a problem if you are fit.
- Mel (10/5): Barefoot paradise - What a slice of heaven. Secluded yet safe in the jungle, this perfectly appointed house has all the amenities- comfortable beds, mosquito nets, great lounging areas and then.. the best of all.. a gorgeous pool where we saw monkeys playing overhead, not to mention the macaws and toucans.
From the river side lookout deck we could watch the gold miners on their morning trek up the river searching for treasure. The grounds are beautiful with pineapple, avocado, lime and banana trees.
Val and Ron are amazing hosts who made sure the Yeti cooler had blocks of ice to keep our food cold.
Coming from the city it was incredible to realize how easy it is to live off the grid. The solar panels provided enough power to charge our phones and have light in the evening.
We had amazing adventures walking to the nearby waterfall, walking up the river and exploring the Bolita trails.
There are a couple of very cute and harmless bats in the guest bedroom who left each evening before we went to bed, returning home in the morning.
The windows have no screens or glass so you really feel you are living in the jungle but there was a surprising lack of biting insects.
This really is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the jungle- the best high end “glamping” I have ever experienced. Nothing except that I ought to have stayed an awful lot longer
- Hayward (10/5): The real Costa Rica experience: luxury in the jungle - This place is incredible- the raw and pristine Costa Rica that is getting more difficult to find.
This is a stunning home with a huge pool right in the jungle.
We flew into Jimenez and stocked up on supplies at a great international supermarket and then drove about half an hour to the charming hamlet of Dos Brazos. We left our car at the Bolita office and then Val led us on an easy 15 minute walk along a magical riverside path to get to the house. Vaulted ceilings, solar lights, cosy king size beds - this house was the perfect spot to take in sounds and sights of the jungle. We had fireflies at night, went to bed being serenaded by frogs and drank our morning coffee at the pool before hitting the trails, reading in the hammock and making feasts for the family. 10 out of 10. The REAL Pura Vida! Nothing!
