Perfect location in Plaka right below the acropolis. It doesn’t get much better than that!

- Sharon (10/5): - Well located quiet hotel situated in the Plaka area. Beautiful large modern comfortable room with an awesome view. Breakfast is outside of the hotel but literally a 20 second walk away and the breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. Staff at the hotel were pleasant and gave us useful information. Would definitely stay there again when we revisit Athens.

One of the friendliest hotel staff I’ve encountered abroad.
- Maria (10/5): - Great area.
- Jeremy (10/5): -

- Corrie (8/5): - Staff was wonderful
- Sanj (10/5): - Amazing location! Nice clean rooms and amazing staff. Would highly recommend it !

- Matthias (10/5): -
- Osborne (10/5): - Great location
- Matthew (4/5): - Between the hotel manager asking me to cancel my Expedia reservation and paying direct to remove commission, terrible air conditioning, and small rooms it was fine
- Elvin (10/5): Stay here! - This place is wonderful-- amazing facilities with even better staff. The front desk folks are some of the best we have met on our travels. Thank you for a great stay!
Also-- the breakfast space and options were far beyond our expectations. Nice touch!
- Raya (10/5): - The staff were very helpful and kind. They went out of their way to be kind.
- Sandra (10/5): Fabulous - We had a fabulous experience here. The two girls at the front desk were absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable. Our room was clean. Breakfast was great and so very central to everything loved it.
- Maria (10/5): - This little boutique hotel has been renovated. The rooms are spacious, modernized and super clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The reception area is quite small, but you are not in Athens to hang out at a hotel reception area anyway. The view right outside the hotel is Acropolis. Amazing. This boutique hotel could not be better located. You are at Plaka and the biggest Orthodox Church in Athens. I loved it.
- Amanda (10/5): - This was a great hotel! The staff was extremely nice and so hospitable. The rooms were clean, easily accessible to plenty of shopping and restaurants. Highly recommend!
- John (10/5): - The staff was a delight and so helpful.
- Osborne (10/5): - Great location
- Mark (10/5): Great place for a short stay in central Athens, walking distance to sights and great bars and cafes - Excellent location and views, new hotel, stylish and comfortable with great staff, especially Debbie on reception Nothing
- Marsha (10/5): Exceptional - The room was nice, clean, appears to be newly renovated. Bathrooms were very nice also and large. The showere were amazing. However, mine did not look like the photo but I didnt mind. The hallways and steps. The carpet needs to be changed looks and feels dirty in the hallways.
- James (10/5): - I was comfortable and had access to everything . Staff was polite and helpful
- Naomi (10/5): - What a lovely surprise! Everything exceeded expectations, from the room, the amenities, the support staff, and especially the lovely included breakfast! This was a great value and an ideal location for exploring the heart of Athens!
- Bowen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): - very convenient
- Robin (8/5): - A good hotel with really helpful staf. One thing the room smelled musty
And the water from the shower leaks into the room. Would have given it 5 stars if not for those items. Great location.
- Manahel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eric (4/5): - The breakfast was the only positive. Hotel had zero amenities and terrible A/C. We had to leave and get a new hotel.
- Allegra (9/5): Good location, modern rooms - Stayed just one night but location is central and good. The room was very modern and new with nice bathroom, toiletries, closet space although small in size but you’re out all day so doesn’t matter.
- Daniel (10/5): - I highly recommend this property. It is modern, recently built/renovated with excellent views of the Acropolis and in the heart of the Plaka. Everything is walkable with dozens of little streets full of shopping, bars, cafes, etc. right when you walk out of the door. The staff was lovely as well. If I go back to Athens, this is exactly where I will stay.
- Michelle (8/5): - Amazing location, clean room, great a/c, great shower. Breakfast is incredible! It starts at 8:00 a.m. and if you need to be out before then they will pack you a box to go. The breakfast goes until 11:00 a.m. which is nice. Elevator. View from my room was of the street.
- Wong (9/5): Beautiful , I recommend ! Fantastic location and staff. - Just like the photos , great service !! Honestly , service from the ladies at the front made it all the better. I highly recommend this place. Lift was small and no bathroom in lobby.
- Roddy (8/5): Good location with nice room and friendly staff poor view noisy working nearby - Nice clean room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Being allowed to store our bags after we had checked out. No view at all from the window.
Construction, which was so loud, it must have been in the hotel, from 0800.
- Shaun (8/5): - Nice place, small and the room was small as well. View was terrible- looked at a wall/ storage area where they were renovating. Was very loud all night long not sure where the noise was from. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good.
- Vickie (8/5): Very Nice Hotel - The hotel is a cute, boutique style hotel. Nice and clean, hotel staff is extremely nice and helpful. It has amazing views of the Acropolis. The only downside would be the construction next door. It is very loud early in the morning. The showers also splash water out on the floor. I would recommend this hotel as long as the noise doesn’t bother you.
- Michael (10/5): Positive - Amazing- friendly, delicious breakfast, nice decor, great location.
- Mojdeh (10/5): - Wow. Great hotel. great view of acropolis. And no I understand why all the reviews talk about the staff. Truly one of the nicest and polite staff in many countries i have been to. Especially Greece. New hotel so bedding and everything super clean and works well. The breakfast place was super cute and with fresh food
- Emily (8/5): - Room was updated but quite small with toilet/sink stall and separate shower stall. Both bathroom and shower felt like they were in the middle of the room. There was limited space to hang clothing and no real closet. There was construction going on next door which was loud during the day. Location was great in terms being close to Acropolis and shopping. The breakfast was excellent! Staff were also helpful and friendly.
- Guglielma (9/5): Superb - We had a wonderful stay at Esse Athens! The location is absolutely perfect , it was so easy to walk everywhere, making it a great base to explore the city. The hotel itself has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. It’s clearly very well run, with great attention to detail. The staff were exceptional. Friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. We truly appreciated their kindness and professionalism. Highly recommend staying here! No complaint !
- Justine (10/5): Great rooms and perfectly located -
- Gregory (8/5): - Very nice property. Excellent staff, very helpful and friendly.
Accommodations very nice, but images on-line did not accurately depict room with balcony.
- Garnik (10/5): - Best location and staff. Everyone was so kind and helpful at all times.
- Deborah (10/5): - A modern hotel with a tiny lobby and elevator. Rooms are compact but comfortable, nice linens and towels. Friendly staff, ready to provide assistance and recommendations for local restaurants.
- James (10/5): Exceptional!! - We were absolutely delighted with her stay at the hotel and could not recommend it more highly.
The facilities were exceptionally clean, stylist and throughtfully maintained down to the smallest detail. The room was comfortable spacious and full equipped offering every amenity one could ask for.
The staff were incredible polite, friendly and helpful always willing to assist with a smile and the outmost professionalism.
The location of the hotel is ideal because it's right underneath Acropolis, exactly at the center of Athens.
The breakfast was rich and of excellent quality with a wide variety of fresh option to suit every taste.
Overall our experience was outstanding and we look forward to return soon. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for the wonderful hospitality!
- Chara (10/5): Exceptional - Esse Athens is truly one of the best boutique hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The location is perfect—right in the heart of Plaka, walking distance to everything worth seeing in Athens. The rooms are spotless, beautifully decorated, and surprisingly quiet.
What made the experience truly special, however, was the incredible staff. Despina and Virginia went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Always smiling, helpful, and genuinely kind, they assisted me with local recommendations, bookings, and every little detail. Thank you both for making my stay unforgettable!
- Laura (10/5): Would stay again! - The location was perfect and it was so easy to walk around the Plaka. The staff was so amazing. Before we arrived, they helped us organize all transfers. They helped get our luggage to our room as we arrived before the room was ready. They got us reservations at a lovely restaurant for dinner. They took us to the room. The room was more than comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay and were sorry it was only for one night!
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional - Our room had a deck with a Jacuzzi and clear view of the Acropolis. It doesn't get much better than that. The room was beautifully designed and breakfast was excellent. This is a new hotel and the staff is committed to establishing a good reputation. They were very helpful and gracious. There are marble floors in areas which are a slip risk when wet. I advised the hotel staff that they should have mats in the shower.
- Susan (10/5): - It was beautiful from the moment we walked in; our room was exquisitely appointed and very new. The people at the front desk couldn’t have been nicer. They went out of their way to help us. The free breakfast was truly a gourmet experience.
- Deborah (10/5): - We loved this hotel. The extras you get at this hotel were amazing (toothbrushes, shaving kits, slippers, and Luffa’s all to take with you) Location was perfect walkable to Acropolis. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Hotel restaurant was not open yet, so we had breakfast at the restaurant a few doors down it was delicious!
- Laci (10/5): - Such a clean and unique hotel. Walkable to many shops and restaurants. The staff was great!
- Kimberly (10/5): - Great location in the Plaka neighborhood. Very friendly and helpful staff! Stylish decor and comfortable bed. Suggest installing some hooks to hang towels, etc... Nice breakfast with good selection. Highly recommend this hotel!
- Yang (6/5): - The good: not too far away from everything, about 10 minutes walk to all tourist interests. AC is cold. Shower and sink water flow is very high. Breakfast is as good as any other hotel in southern Europe, which is very high standard.
The bad: I upgraded to Apollo room street view. It’s small and in a weird corner location adjacent to the cleaning storage. I suggest you not wasting money or spend more to upgrade to suite.
There’s constant construction noise. Morning, afternoon, and night there’s hammering drilling randomly and fire alarm once. if you are a light sleeper, I suggest pass. The property is not well maintained, scratches everywhere. Amenities shows usage.
They had to call me once while I was touring the city to enter my room (I had do not disturb on) to fix a water leakage.
The Ugly: I haven’t found one clean towel. They all look like someone has wiped their bottom after a dump with. I had to buy a new one, wash it myself and dry it. I am glad there’s a heated drying shelf in the bathroom, although the plug is in a poor location, difficult to plug in, even more to unplug.
Overall I would look to stay somewhere else.
- Lisa (10/5): - Excellent stay - fabulous staff, convenient location! Hands down, I would definitely stay at Esse Athens again!
- Maria (10/5): Best for couples - Amazing service and location. Breakfast the best !
- Violeta (10/5): - Good location, good breakfast, excelent personal, good shopping around and restaurantes
- Jessica (6/5): Great location but too expensive for what you get - Location is central to old Athens so you’re steps away from shops and restaurants and even historical sites. The views from the room is AMAZING overlooking towards the Acropolis. The cozy hot tub on the veranda definitely made this place a real gem.
The staff were super friendly and very happy to help. They spoke decent English and we had a good chat about the Greek Islands. We didn’t need any help specifically as we had been in Athens before and were comfortable to explore on our own.
The interior of the rooms are tastefully decorated with black marble and wooden flooring. I did like the double shower and the super spacious bathroom though the water under the shower door would get everywhere on the bathroom which made the bathroom really slippery.
HOWEVER, the one main issue we had with the hotel, in particularly the room we stayed at (and I believe it is the only corner room with a hot tub in the property) - it had weird stains on the walls and emitted a very musty smell, which I can only assume was mould that had been painted over. The smell was really strong and I was concerned about our health while staying inside the room for too long. I’m uncertain if this is something they could ever resolve but I thought I’d point it out to the next person who stays there.
What I’m most surprised about was that inside the room, they only provided 2 teabags and 4 coffee pods and no milk. We were told that any extra teabag or coffee pod would cost us €2.50 each. We felt that for what we paid for, we were expecting a little more than this.
The breakfast was provided by a cafe at the end of the street as the hotel restaurant was still under renovations. The food was delicious but service was a bit lacking despite that we were the only other table that morning. We had to hurry them as we needed to go to the airport right after breakfast. Because this is not part of the hotel, this is mainly just a caution for those who expect a speedy service.
All in all, I think this could’ve been an amazing property if not marred by a couple negatives indicated above. I’m also not sure if the price we paid was necessarily worth it. For reference, we paid €750 / A$1.3k per night which I think is super steep for a small studio room in Athens in the middle of May (shoulder season). I felt that there could be better offerings around the area if you can forgo the hot tub with the views.
- John (10/5): - Noisy neighbours a couple of nights but other than that a great hotel. Great location great staff.
- Richard (3/5): Great Location & Very Disappointing Stay - Great location. Able to walk to many tourist locations, restaurants and shopping. Unbeknownst to us, until we checked in, there was govt construction going on in attached building fail til 2:30pm. There was ongoing drilling, hammering and loud noise permeating throughout building. We were not warned of these loud disturbing noises until we heard them at check in. We had ants on our countertops in our room. They climbed into our suitcases and in our clothing. There was a bright green light in our room that stayed on all night long making it difficult to sleep. Our friends did not have a light in their room. The shower does not drain properly. The water runs under the door into the bedroom. Making the flooring very slippery. The in-room safe did not come with instructions. The front desk clerk told us most guests have to ask for assistance to use their safe. Upon checking out Saturday, after our 3-night stay, I summarized our experience to the front desk clerk and gave her my name, phone and email for management to reach out to me on Monday. They never reached out to me so I could explain our disappointing experiences. Thus, I am posting them online to make future guests aware of the lack of concern and interest that management has in their day to day operations.
- Peter (10/5): - Esse Athens was the perfect stay for my husband and I while staying in Athens. It had a great location, convenient to everything. Our room was clean, updated and provided a great view of the Acropolis! The staff was always warm and friendly and answered any questions we had. Constantinos went above and beyond our expectations by giving us great restaurant suggestions and allowing us to try his wonderful Moussaka! I will be forever grateful. I cannot recommend this hotel boutique enough. It was a great choice and I would definitely stay here again!
- Darren (6/5): - Staff welcoming, however when kindly showed around the room, was not informed that the blinds do not fit flush to wall so there was a large gap that let street light in illuminating the room so disturbed sleep; there were however sleep mask in the bathroom with soap toothbrush etc why hidden and not next to the bed; more importantly if it was mentioned on room description that a sleep mask is provided to wear as blinds are not fit for purpose at over 200 euros for one night one wouldn’t have booked the room as unable to sleep wearing a sleep mask.
- Spight (9/5): Superb - The location was phenomenal, the staff were super helpful.
- Shahryar (4/5): - Staff was great and very professional- ounce we got to the room , dust on the sink - bathroom was dark and smell really bad ( mold , water under the sink tray that smell like sewer) - no place to put our luggage's , location was central and good
- Marina (4/5): Uncomfortable overnight stay - My previous experience was really good. I like the location and the rooms was very nice on the 2nd floor I got the room on the 1st floor — it’s the only room there, Room 101. It was very disappointing: too small, no full-length mirror, and all the water was spilling out of the shower. It wasn’t comfortable for two people, especially for a woman.
Today was the first day of breakfast, and it was very poor — no healthy options, nothing with salmon or omelette.
Also, early in the morning, there was loud drilling, maybe construction work or breaking walls. The noise was unbearable.
Overall, it was a very bad experience!
- Deborah (10/5): - Loved the staff (Virginia, Matina,Nora). Helpful with all things Athens. Room comfy, shower fantastic. Great breakfast.
- Deborah (10/5): - The rooms were clean and comfortable. It is in a very convenient location. We walked everywhere from the hotel. They don't have a restaurant, but our room came with breakfast at a near by restaurant. It was lovely and so much food. We were glad we took advantage.
- Sunil (10/5): - Many thanks to the lovely staff
- Hernandez (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): - Great boutique hotel. Very simple lobby, so unexpected how nice the rooms are. Small, but very comfortable (Cosy room) with a double sink bathroom and great shower. The customer service is excellent!! Location is great. Right next to the Pláka, but quiet. Would def stay again.
- dan (8/5): - There were lighting issues in the room, a light in the bedroom above the shade would not turn off at night and a mirror light in the bath would not turn on.
- Kevin (8/5): - Too loud construction noise early in the morning near the property and no drawers for storage of clothes.
- Mona (10/5): - This is a great little boutique hotel in the Plaka neighbourhood. It was within walking distance to shops and restaurants and very close to the Acropolis. We could see it from our room! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would happily stay here again.
- Luisa (8/5): - Perfect location.
Comfortable rooms.
Helpful staff at reception.
Clean hotel.
- Robert (10/5): - Splurged for the balcony with jacuzzi. Looking at the Acropolis. Spectacular view and short walk
- Lorraine A (10/5): - A fabulous location that allows you to walk just about everywhere.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast at the nearby restaurant was excellent.
- Maria (10/5): - Lovely room with an Amazing view!!
The staff were so sweet, friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Felt like friends when we left.
