Guest Reviews
- Smith (10/5): An authentic old building that is very comfortable - I loved my choice to stay in this hotel. A beautiful old building in the heart of the old city with a fantastic view of the Potala Palace from the roof.
Big, spacious room with water, tea, a hot water kettle and tea cups provided. I especially appreciated the heater in the room.
The best part is the kindness and care from the manager. He really went out of his way to make sure that I was comfortable and that all of my needs were met.
Although I would have gotten lost every time I went outside, you are required to always have a guide with you so it wasn't an issue. It was perfect in every way.

- Moreno (10/5): They take care of the customer, nice staff - Was very central, a beautiful place
- francoise (10/5): Special mention goes to the young man at reception, Janyang, who goes beyond the call of duty to make guests feel welcom -

- Melanie (10/5): - We stayed in this excellent place for 3 nights, enjoying every minute here! The room was exactly what we wanted and the staff was extremely helpful and kind ♥️ Thank you for making our stay in Lhasa that perfect!
- Shannon Duffy (8/5): Wonderful Stay in a Traditional Tibetan Style Hotel - We really liked staying in the old part of town, east of Jokhang Temple. It is a short walk to many good Tibetan restaurants and shops. The hotel is traditional and maybe a little quirky, but in a most charming way. The room was large and comfortable and included a wardrobe. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. There was oxygen on site if needed and bottled water available for sale as well. Although the room was only two floors up, the elevator was much appreciated at that altitude. The hotel is not very easy to find. You need to use the provided GPS coordinates.
- Ximena (10/5): Unique Tibetan environment for your stay. - It is a unique arquitecture with all the amenities you may need for your stay. They do the best for you to have a comfortable stay and assist you with any information you may need for the trip. I think it is one of the more authentic hotels I have stayed in. Jamyang is always available to help and to point you out in the right direction. Also you have a great view from the terrace and you can reach all main points by walking easily. There is even a small monastery around the corner. I liked all. Breakfast was a bit basic but for me it worked well as they arranged what I needed.
- Diane (9/5): - Great location in the old part of Lhasa. A little hard to find because of the winding streets in the neighborhood. Beautiful building with heritage decor. All the furnishings were made by Tibetans and the covers and pillows were made by the local disabled community. Front desk staff spoke English well and were extremely helpful. The hotel is unheated, so in the cold months, the rooms are a bit chilly. Fortunately, the comfortable bed has a heated mattress and there is lots of hot water.
- VALERIE (9/5): Tibétains hospitality and culture - Beautiful people in a beautiful place, so welcoming and helpful ; Shamballa Palace feels more like a home than a guesthouse A bit hard to find ... be prepared to ask for help!
- Anton-Jasper (8/5): A large contribution to our amazingly memorable experience in Lhasa. - A very Tibetan experience. We appreciated the colours and architecture and building techniques they used which provide a very unique look and feel and are in many ways similar to those used at the Potala Palace. It really ensured that our amazing experience of the sites in Lhasa continued when we were back in the hotel after a day of site seeing. The location is perfect as it is close to the Jokhang Temple and inside the old part of Lhasa where you can wonder around even after dark. The staff were very caring and the hotel has 4 or so respirators which the guests may use whenever needed. As a matter of fact, we had one permanently in our room although we were there over a quiet period. Nothing
- Nelya (10/5): Great heritage hotel - The shower was superb. The staff is very helpful Not so central, but not a problem

- Leonie (8/5): The hotel gives you a real Tibetan experience. Location is wonderful. - The hotel is a restored former residence belonging to an ancient high ranking lama. Set within the old neighborhood of Lhasa it gives you a real Tibetan experience. All the rooms are large, colorful, with a grotto like bathroom and plenty of seating areas. The roof terrace of the hotel gives you a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and the Potala palace which is lit up at night. One of the beds was too hard to comfortably sleep on. It was rather warm outside so we solved it by sleeping on top of the duvet.

- Felix (9/5): Great location, atmospheric rooms - Genuine old Tibetan property. They tried hard to provide good service. The water took forever to heat up.
- Lesley (10/5): Heaven. You really know you're in Tibet here! - This was just heaven. It’s an old palace of a lama with glorious ornate Tibetan decor and furnishings and colours. The rooms look spectacular. But you soon discover that it’s cunningly furnished and has every possible modern convenience. Excellent shower, comfy beds, lighting, all beautifully done. And a good breakfast too. Location perfect, well inside the old city, a few minutes’ walk to the Barkhor. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Staff also really helpful and warm and kind. It’s a real experience to stay here and enormously much worth it. And what a bargain too. And a fabulous view from the roof. Stairs are a bit uneven - best not to stay on an upper floor if you think you might suffer from the altitude.
- Jaume (10/5): Exceptional - Ambiente total Tíbet Falta ascensor
- Szilard (8/5): Very good - It was really an authentic experience to stay in this hotel. Compared to the price, it was well equipped. The staff was very kind. The bed was quite hard for us, but we survived 2 days. The breakfast was simple.
- Dima (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (10/5): Beautiful property great location Fantastic staff - Beautiful property great location lovely breakfast! Fantastic staff Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully restored house inBarkhor
- Sue (8/5): A wonderful Tibetan experience in the heart of Lhasa - Beautiful hotel, beautiful room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic location in the old town. Bit chilly at times but this was to be expected.
- John (10/5): A beatifully restored Tibetan house - Location , architecture , in heart of Barkhor , friendly helpful staff Nothing
- Sandra (8/5): Beautiful hotel full of character in a great location - The old building is gorgeous and the room was decorated in a beautiful Tibetan style. Great location in old town. Room heater and humidifier worked well. Location in the old town is wonderful. Staff are super-friendly. Great to stay in a family run place, rather than a Chinese chain hotel. The bathrooms were too cold to take a shower - but it wasn’t a problem as we were advised not to shower for our first few days to avoid making altitude sickness worse.
The stairs were steep and the floors uneven - fine for me, but someone with mobility issues would struggle.
- Annmee (8/5): Beautiful traditional place in city center - Beautiful place in traditional style, friendly and helpful staff and perfectly in city center. -
- Melissa (10/5): Kindest staff, fabulous rooms and great location in the old quarter! - Like a Tibetan palace with the friendliest, kindest staff who go out of their way for you; I love the location in the old town which is surrounded by Tibetans and makes you feel you’ve jumped back in time. They also support worthy causes and I thoroughly recommend them in every way! If coming from the airport: One tip is to ask for the staff to come and pick you up from Kyang hotel nearby and bring your bags as no cars are allowed in the old Tibetan quarter. This makes it easy.
- Sara (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful typical Tibetan hotel Everything was super
- Bimal (8/5): Excellent except for some communication issues. - Very good. Traditional menu plus some selected international items. Little better English communication would have been more helpful.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view of the Potala Palace from the rooftop!
