Verwacht geen vier sterren hotel maar een guesthouse waar zorg voor de gast op één staat. Ik raad iedereen Baker house aan.
• Laurène (10/5): Parfait ! - Ambiance intimiste qui permet de se détendre en toute tranquillité après une journée de visites ! L’hôte est à vos petits soins en cas de besoin. Il nous a même fait visiter l’île Éléphantine pendant plusieurs heures à titre gracieux et nous avons eu la chance de partager un thé avec sa famille. Le service est juste irréprochable, son hospitalité et sa gentillesse est sans limite.
• Manuel (10/5): Havre de paix à Assouan - Le logement est vraiment sympa, dans un quartier vraiment typique et non touristique. Là vous êtes en Egypte (enfin, en Nubie!). Il y a de la place, la piscine très sympa (et propre) pour se rafraîchir, une machine à laver si besoin, d'excellents petits déjeuners. On se sent comme chez soi, un havre de paix. Hamdy, un des gérants, est vraiment sympathique, adorable. Il nous a emmené faire un tour de l'île Elephantine dans un calme absolu, et est très arrangeant. Si nous avions découvert cet endroit et ces personnes avant, Nous serions restés bien plus longtemps à Assouan. Vraiment une rencontre de cœur ❤️ Rien

• Mélinda (10/5): C’était parfait - Hamdy et sa famille sont adorables, et toujours prêts à vous aider. Ils nous ont attendus même pour notre arrivée à minuit et demi, avec le sourire et un excellent jus d’hibiscus. Ils nous ont même emmené manger sur leur bateau à la tombée de la nuit. Tout était parfait, nous avons juste été surpris par la température de la piscine qui était glaciale, malgré les 32 degrés en journée.

• Jenny (8/5): Fijne kleinschalige accommodatie - Kleinschalige accommodatie in een Nubische wijk weg van de grote resorts. Restaurants en supermarkt op 10-15 minuten lopen. Vriendelijke eigenaar. Het zwembad is wat fris in de winter, al vond mijn dochter het heerlijk ;) In de nacht hoor je soms toeterende treinen (dit is bijna overal in Aswan) en blaffende honden.

• Zakiyah (9/5): Great hospitality! Amazing stay - The villa was beautiful, and the hosts were incredibly kind. They waited up for us even though we arrived very late, and whenever we had questions or issues, they responded quickly. They also helped us communicate with our driver the next day who was taking us to our cruise, which we really appreciated. The hospitality was outstanding, we truly enjoyed our stay. The host even made us breakfast the next morning! The rooms were a little old fashioned, and the property is slightly far out from the city but we would still stay again!

• Nathaniel (8/5): Quirky spacious apartment in very local part of Aswan. Super friendly and helpful host - Lots of beds and space. Awesome hospitality and helpful host. Hot water, AC, Wifi, washing machine all working. Pool area great to chill by. We didn’t mind, but the area is very ‘local’. It’s dirt streets and nothing close by. We loved this, but also had to take a taxi to get to restaurants etc. This might not be for everybody.

• kathleen (8/5): Memorable in a good way - Owner Hamdi & nephew Eslam met us and helped carry in our bags. Eslam has excellent English & told us about the villa and excursions that he could arrange, both are very friendly, helpful, proud Nubians. Hamdi kept us supplied with his delicious Hibiscus drink and will cook a delicious meal for a small price. He uses Google Translate when his English is limited which worked out fine. We did do an excursion, sailing the Nile in the small motorboat was particularly special. The villa is quirky rather than modern but it adds to the charm. The pool is refreshing despite 33 degrees during the day. It wasn't a problem that it's shared with the opposing apartment during our stay. The air conditioning in the bedrooms & fan is a bonus as can switch between the two. The wifi was excellent as was Hamdi's aunt next door who took it upon herself to call him when I was inadvertently locked out by my friend! The Nubian Museum & Unfinished Obelisk are close by. It was certainly a memorable holiday mostly because of the people we met, you can't be lonely there! The villa is approx 10 min walk from a main road though well lit in the evening, it may feel unsafe given the rubbish, stray dogs & not so many people about. However, women sit outside their houses and are very friendly as are the children. On our first day the children tried their luck begging for money but didn't pester us after that. My friend & I both walked alone in the dark & felt perfectly safe. A bigger issue is the economic downturn & fewer tourists so we were seen as 'cash machines'. The various modes of transport and stall holders will press you to take a ride on or come & look at their wares. While it is tiring, we could understand their plight & didn't get frustrated with them & in turn they were lovely to us when we declined. It's stressful knowing when to & how much to tip when it's not such a huge thing in your own culture.

• Deana (8/5): - Eslam und sein Kollege waren sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Sie haben versucht uns den Aufenthalt so schön wie möglich zu machen. Waren immer erreichbar und falls etwas nicht funktionierte wurde sofort danach geschaut. Das dazu gebuchte Frühstück war sehr lecker und reichlich. Und der Pool hat für eine Abkühlung gesorgt. Bettwäsche und Handtücher waren auch sauber. Für Service und Hilfsbereitschaft 10 Punkte. Die Möbel sind etwas abgenutzt und zum Teil beschädigt. Teilweise war es nicht ganz sauber. Mann muss wissen daß man im Badezimmer nichts hinstellen kann, da alles nass wird.

• Marc (10/5): Authentic Nubian experience - Bakar House is a great place to stay. Think of it as more of a home stay for an authentic Nubian experience rather than a traditional hotel. Facilities are basic but clean and the beds were very comfortable. Aswan centre is a 15 mins walk (easy access to the ferries to Elephantine Island) or a 5 mins tuk-tuk ride. There is a supermarket located close by to pick up provisions. Restaurants are easy to get to. Owner Hamdi and Manager Eslam were incredible hosts. They made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They are passionate about Aswan and Nubian culture. Transport to sites and to and from the airport is easy to arrange with them, if needed. For us, this felt like a slice of the ‘real Egypt’ rather than being ferried from attraction to attraction on an organised tour.

• aude (6/5): A louer pour la piscine. - La piscine ! Lits confortables. Climatisation efficace dans les chambres. Salles de bain simples mais correctes si elles étaient entretenues. La maison n’est pas entretenue correctement. Le ménage est limite. On a eu des doutes sur le changement des draps après les précédents locataires restés une seule nuit (cheveux et autres dans les lits). Cuisine inutilisable (vaisselle sale éponge hors d’âge). Le cousin qui fait le ménage est entré dans la maison comme chez lui alors que nous étions présents. On imagine qu’il serait entré en notre absence si besoin.

• Sandra (9/5): - La maison est jolie et le gros plus est de pouvoir se rafraîchir dans la piscine. La maison est un peu excentrée mais avec une appli de recherche de chauffeur, on trouve facilement à aller et revenir du centre ville de pour moins de 2 €. La maison se trouve dans un quartier populaire en assez mauvais état mais pas d'insécurité. La maison est plutôt agréable même si tout n'est pas parfait (équipements assez vétustes, escalier très étroit pour monter dans les chambres, signal wifi très faible dans les chambres). L'espace extérieur est très agréable. En lisant le descriptif, je n'avais pas compris que la piscine était partagée avec la maison d'en face. Et comme l'espace de vie est ouvert sur la piscine ( ce qui dans le principe est très agréable), vous pouvez vous retrouver avec une autre famille qui profite de la piscine quand vous mangez, vous reposez... La maison d'en face était occupée pendant notre séjour. Cela ne nous a pas dérangé mais au départ nous étions surpris.

• Rodgers (10/5): Exceptional - Charming villa in excellent location. The pool was cool, pristine and refreshing. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The open living area below the rooms has a lovely, homely feel. Very Nubian. Eslam was very hospitable. He offered to organise anything without being pushy. We took advantage of his personal river tour and were put on his boat for 4 -hours. Aswan is beautiful. A complete juxtaposition of Cairo's chaos. The river here, near the dam is pristine and clean.. We swam at a golden sand beach reminiscent of a Mediterranean beach.
• Ellie (10/5): Awesome home stay with a friendly host family! - The hosts were absolutely fantastic and welcoming, we had the houses to ourselves so a full pool and all! Rooms were clean and spacious, kitchen and bathrooms fully functional. The location is a little far out but we knew that booking, it was no issue to us as we had a tour company driver. It’s a 25 minute walk to the main town area, just a consideration for those who do not have arranged transport. The host is super helpful in getting cars/taxis though! Our house was entirely open to the pool area, which was great for us with no one there, but if shared it might be something other may consider not the best. Individual rooms are lockable though.

• Alexandru (9/5): Comfortable stay in Aswan - The property is close to the centre of Aswan and has all the amenities we needed during our (short) stay. It was a good size, it had comfortable beds and the host called to make sure the check-in goes as planned. We were lucky enough to be the only ones at the property during that time so we could choose our room and did not have to share the pool with anyone. Most of the appliances and furniture were dated. The upstairs shower room is way too small, the toilet was leaky and for some reason we did not have hot water during our stay. Also note that to the average tourist the area around the property might seem dangerous, with stray dogs, rubbish, and loud people. While the people actually seemed friendly, do take that into consideration if you enjoy evening walks into the town centre. We also did not appreciate the host messaging about giving them a high rating after our stay.

He helped us to book the van to Abu Simbel in last minute and constantly checking on us to make sure we are ok. Thank you for your help and your hospitality. the bathroom in the second floor and the kitchen need to improve. The cutlery is full of dust. The bathroom in second floor is quite dirty
• Anli (10/5): Great host - This place is clean and cozy. The best part is the host, who is always there to help. We had some issues with our tour company for the early morning pick up. The host managed to help us out. He also checked with us to make sure we are fine. We felt very welcomed. The host helped us find a sunset Felucca. The captain chose to sail behind a big sand dune. So the sunset was totally blocked by the sand dune. The wind was not strong there so it took much longer to finish. We have to pay 50% more than original price because “the trip is longer than originally quoted”. It was frustrating that we didn’t see the sunset, be late for our dinner and bitten by bugs while the boat is not moving. I recommend a different felucca captain.
• Jodie (6/5): Recommended for intrepid travellers - The host was very friendly and helpful, however the description of the property isn't quite accurate. The pool is in between two apartments and it is shared. We were in the apartment at the back. It is actually entirely open to the pool area, so the only privacy you get is if you go upstairs in to the bedrooms and close the doors. All communal spaces were open to the outside. You have to go out on the landing, which is open to the pool and the neighbours, to use the bathroom. This didn't bother us, but it might not suit everyone. To get upstairs you go up a narrow spiral staircase, so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The upstairs toilet leaked. We made them aware of this, but it wasn't fixed while we were there. The walk from the apartment to the Nile was fairly short, however you do have to go through dirt roads with rubbish burning on the sides, some aggressive stray dogs and quite a few children begging. We enjoyed our stay. The host was helpful in arranging taxis and a tour. However had the description been more accurate, we probably wouldn't have chosen to stay there with our children.

• Kirill (10/5): Beautiful oasis in the middle of Nubian village - Pretty rustic house with a pool in the courtyard, 10-15 minutes walk from the public ferry to the Elephantine island and the Nubian museum. Staff is very friendly and forthcoming and immediately responded to all our questions. Makani and King of Jamaica restaurants are the best

• Jasminka (10/5): Authentic experience - Very nice authentic house. Big comfortable beds (two can sleep at one bed). Pool is wondeful addition. Washing machine also. Owner was very kind, trustful and available from the moment od booking. We have landed in the middle of the night and he organized transport and checked if we were ok. Hot water for shower was ready for us. There is AC but no heating, and our February night was a bit cold. Warm new blankets were provided, though it would be essential to put light sheet under the blankets that could be changed, too. Rooms were very clean but owner should try to clean the kitchen and dishes a bit better and improve bathroom (specially floors) if possible. Short walk to the Nubian Museum. Despite the surrounding area is quite unclean, with trash along the street, I felt safe walking alone and people were polite. Maybe some improvements could be done in the kitchen.

• Alexandra (9/5): Overall really great stay and we would recommend if you’re not looking for anything fancy. - The property was very cute and rustic and we loved the design! It was close to the water and our host was amazing and took us by boat to show us around. 10/10 for the host. We felt very safe. He took us around the island, was flexible and always checked in to make sure we were safe. It was awesome to have a local show us around. If you’re looking for an authentic African experience, I would highly recommend. We would recommend that you do some shopping around for activity prices as we later found out that we could have gotten some activities cheaper.
• Richard (9/5): Living with the Noble Nubians - we were 4 adults self-catering and furnished supplies from the local Carrefour Supermarket at the end of the Corniche a short tut-tut ride away. The kitchen was well-appointed. The property has a central swimming pool but in January was far too cold to swim, but quickly relieved aching legs as a welcomed ice bath treatment. The property is a traditional courtyard house in a friendly Nubian neighbourhood. The Manager and his cousin are extremely helpful if any problems arise. In our case locating the enigmatic Super Jet coach stop for Luxor after an hour-long tut-tut race about town the night before failed to locate it.. Before starting out make sure that you have precise location details as our taxi driver took 25 minutes to locate the house.with the assistance of Sat Nav

• Jiraporn (10/5): Great host cute property reasonable price - Lovely property big enough for family of 6-8 people but we are only 3 so that more than enough space It is in good location but the property itself in the small road but no problem to find as the host will contact with you or talk to the driver

• Soukaina (9/5): Great experience that I recommend - Great experience being immersed in a real authentic Nubian house. Eslam is a super guest who has been very nice with us. He also suggested us going on his boat and advices us with very good restaurants. The villa itself is comfortable even though the shower needs some reparation but this did not bother us at all.

• Jillian (10/5): Exceptional - We were happy to be the first guests! You can they tell are doing everything to make it cozy and accommodating. It is not in a tourist area which is nice and quiet and is a short tuk tuk ride to town and a 2 minute walk to the Nile river. They arranged airport transfer for us and we were offered a nice welcome drink (non alcoholic) on arrival even though it was very late at night. It was great having the whole villa to ourselves with a private pool! It would be a great place for families to come. There was even a delicious free breakfast freshly prepared for us each morning. Eslam was a fantastic host!! Very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. He even took us around on his private boat to Nubia and the botanical gardens and recommended the best restaurant, King Jamaica. Eslam when you come to California you have a place to stay! Overall it was a great value for the price. We recommend!
