Guest Reviews
- Fredhindi (2/5): ★☆☆☆☆ Extremely disappointing – far below Swiss standards, overpriced!! Avoid this place. - ★☆☆☆☆ Extremely disappointing – far below Swiss standards, overpriced!! Avoid this place.
I stayed here from May 29 to June 1, 2025.
This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had in Switzerland.
Tiny room, uncomfortable and below even basic expectations.
No staff present except briefly in the morning — no help, no reception, no service.
Breakfast was chaotic: one coffee machine for everyone, empty buffet, no staff on site.
When I decided to leave early due to these poor conditions, the hotel refused any refund or flexibility and charged me for a night I didn't use.
The attitude was cold, impersonal, and absolutely not guest-oriented.
This place is completely overpriced, lacks hospitality, and should be declassified.
Do not stay here — especially if you expect the professionalism usually found in Swiss hotels.
The management’s inflexibility and disregard for guest rights felt not only unprofessional, but on the edge of legal limits.
- Dominique (6/5): - Ich fand das Hotel unpersönnlich, anonym. Frühstück war gut und reichhaltig.
- Richard (10/5): - The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable. We ate in the hotel for an evening meal and the food was exceptional.
- MARCO (8/5): - buen servicio
- Nicholas (10/5): - Very quaint Hotel. Full of Swiss charm. Very clean and friendly staff. Nice continental breakfast. Reasonable price. No complaints, I would stay there again.
- timwU9263FL (10/5): Alpine get away - The hotel is in a quaint little wooden alpine village in the Swiss Alps. There is a great restaurant and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, they really make the place! The rooms are clean and well presented and the restaurant food is decent.
- Chenxi (10/5): - i was injured and the hotel staff were so helpful. the food is amazing. the bedding smells like sunshine. it is close to lots of hiking trails and right next to the train station. will be back.
- James (10/5): - Awesome!

- Verified traveler (10/5): An excellent stay! - Very charming hotel, small and extremely friendly, welcoming team, comfortable room. Perfect location well off the main road. In summary: an excellent stay!
- Gerhard (8/5): Spitzen Essen in urwüchsiger Umgebung - Sehr leckeres Essen im Hotel eigenem Restaurant. Sehr freundliches Personal. Für uns idealer Zwischenstopp auf einer Motorradtour
- Richard (10/5): - The staff was very accommodating. The 136 year old hotel was magnificent. I believe it is the Swiss tradition to make you happy! If you are wanting to vacation in this area I would recommend staying here!
- Neale (10/5): - Absolutely one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The owners are super friendly and so kind and attentive. The food was amazing and home cooked … delicious.. happily catered for my food intolerances , which was wonderful. Great breakfast too. Location … wow … gorgeous, with the added benefit of seeing the Glacier Express pass by ! Fully recommend this hotel .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Restaurant fermé et Hôtel en travaux
- Grazyna (8/5): - Beautiful area in the Alps.
- NAPA (8/5): NAPA - ดีพอใช้กับราคาและอาหาร
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - Excellent. Visited in the quiet season so there were some Reno's going on but I hardly noticed. Owners were lovely and the room was clean and very cute. Had a wonderful time.
- Sonja (10/5): - Ein sympathisches sauberes nicht mehr ganz neues Hotel
- James (10/5): Great little hotel in a wonderful location - Very easy and friendly service, felt very welcome as soon as I walked in. I will definitely stay there again if I'm back in this fantastic region
- Mintaka1976 (4/5): They charge for tap water at dinner - They charge for tap water. This is a terrible policy and I’m sorry I can’t get past it. You can shower as long as you like. You have a lovely glass caraffe in your room and you can drink water to your heart’s content in your room. At breakfast the water is plentiful. But at dinner - you pay. Why don’t you charge 1 franc more for your cordon bleu instead? Or don’t give free bread? Or charge 1 chf more for the room. I don’t care. But to charge for tap water - this is a big insult to your customers. I have been to your hotel many times before and I have recommended it to many friends. But I’m sorry this is the end. You even went to the trouble to write a big spiel in your menu about why you charge for water. I paid you over 200 francs for my meal and my room. I just honestly can’t understand your logic.
Kudos to the nice restaurant staff who tried to appease the situation. Your service was excellent and friendly. This review is intended solely for the management of this hotel and restaurant.
- GailLouise (10/5): Friendly service, great location - 4 of us enjoyed a long weekend of cross-country skiing based at Hotel Joopi. The hotel is a 30 second walk from the Reckingen train station and a 3 minute walk to the start of the ski trails. Superior double rooms are spacious and bright, and the location is very quiet, making for a very good sleep. All the staff are super friendly, and the restaurant menu was quite extensive for this part of the world. Those who ordered beef found it cooked exactly to their request in each case. I will definitely stay here again when I'm in Obergoms for skiing or summer hiking.
- sheepphilic (8/5): Didn't stay here but ate twice at the restaurant - Was in nearby Glurigen and walked over to this restaurant. I should say that we ate at a few places in the area and overall the quality is very poor and massively overpriced. Switzerland is not cheap to eat out. The restaurant here however was at least an exception on quality and we really enjoyed our food. You should try the main course "Cholera" - Wiki it! Apparently dying out (no pun!) but really delicious.
- Waljay (8/5): Wonderful position - This hotel is situated in a very characterful old village amongst a lot of old Stock sheds that have been remodeled and turn into residences. Some of the original buildings dating back to the 16 and 1700's. A lovely charming old village in which this hotel takes pride of place. We unfortunately lost a gold bracelet somewhere during the day and the owners and staff spent a couple of hours helping us to look for it, even walking back around the vilage with my wife to look for it. The hotel is full of local character, the rooms are very comfortable and the staff can't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Well worth a return visit.
- Eibsee (10/5): Quiet, Beautiful, Charming - I have stayed twice at Hotel Joopi and can really recommend it. The hotel is very comfortable, modern, and has a great restaurant. With the windows open at night and a cool mountain breeze I had the best nights sleep ever. The breakfast is adequate and the assortment of Swiss cheeses is something you don't find everywhere. The hotel is found in Reckingen near the trainstation, but unlike some other hotels near trainstations, the trains sound more like subways and are actually rather quiet. The last train runs at 11pm so you won't here them at night. Reckingen may not be well known outside of Switzerland, but the village is very beautiful and old. There are numerous old houses dating back to the 1600's and the town has a rich history, but there are no tacky souvenir shops selling junk. Reckingen is found in the canton of Wallis/Goms and the whole area is really beautiful and a paradise for skiing. You can also take the train from Reckingen to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn. I will go back next year,
