Guest Reviews
- Markus (10/5): - Area around LosnPaniquines is absolutely beautiful and has abundant wildlife
Sehr Empfehlenswert!!
- Tobias (9/5): - Einfache Unterkunft, sehr gute Lage, sehr schöne Umgebung.
- Yaser Miguel (10/5): - Todo genial, pura selva, pura vida
- Robinson Family (9/5): A comfortable stay in the jungle just around the corner from the beach - This is a great stay in an away from it all location. It isn't quiet but the noise is nature and jungle which is a great background for relaxing. The cabins are simple but comfortable and the staff are wonderful. The food at the soda is great, both for the breakfast and other meals onsite. If you are looking for a jungle retreat, this is the place. We'd love to come back here again. It is outside of the village so a car or transfer is required to get there is required. The staff arranged a transfer by car for us from the airport (paid separately) on arrival and we took the boat to Sierpe on our way out. There is a coastal trail into Drake Bay that takes about an hour.
- Annette (10/5): Lovely hosts and an incredible surroundings made our stay a unique experience. - The property is surrounded by rainforest and we could even watch hummingbirds from our little porch. Our hosts were extremely attentive and helpful and the breakfasts as all the other food they prepared for us was delicious. The beach is a minute’s walk away and we had it all to ourselves. Nothing!
- Magdalena (10/5): Amazing place - Great place and amazing hospitality. The best place during our entire trip.. The hosts Rafa and Ester are amazing 🤩 Nothing
- Dianne (10/5): Beautiful family run eco-lodge close to the beach and wildlife - The place is beautiful. Rafa and Esther are lovely and kind hosts and really looked after us, Rafa meeting us off the boat and making sure that we also got on and off safely when we went on other trips. They arranged the ferries for us and also a couple of tours (one to Corcovado with a fantastic guide Erick) and also kept us well fed, Esther providing delicious meals. Lovely clean comfortable cabins just 100m from the beach and one of the best coast paths in Costa Rica with loads of wildlife on the doorstep. Nothing - was perfect. Possibly helps if you know a bit of Spanish but we managed fine.
- Adrien (9/5): Superb -
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marisa (10/5): Peaceful, restorative, refreshing, relaxing. Paradise! - Even more beautiful in person than in the pictures! Lush, tropical garden setting, 2 minute walk from gorgeous beach. Rafa and Ester were very friendly and welcoming. We were surprised the room was cleaned every day, including fresh sheets and towels. The soda is right next to the cabin, delicious generous breakfast and dinner. Excellent value. Our favorite stay during our week in Costa Rica. Would love to return. Wish we had booked a longer stay!
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely family run lodge, Rafa and Esther are wonderful hosts. They made us feel comfortable from the minute we arrived and throughout the whole stay.
Food at the soda was delicious and the location is unbeatable if you want a secluded and peaceful stay. We saw lots of wildlife on our doorstep, including a sloth! Nothing. We should have stayed longer!
- Jim (8/5): Wonderful place to enjoy a few days away from the bustle of Drake Bay village - Rafa and Ester were very attentive and fabulous hosts. The food was great. The cabins are a 3 minute walk from a beautiful beach with access to trails to lots of beautiful forest access and private beaches. The noises associated with other guests and neighbors was a little bit bothersome but only for very short periods of time. it didn’t take away from our otherwise amazing experience.
- Amy (10/5): Amazing! - Paradise! Our hosts Rafa and Ester were so kind and helpful! They cooked us delicious meals, helped us with arranging the boats and tours, whilst also cleaning our room everyday! The property is so close to a lovely beach (2 minute walk) and our room was situated within a lovely garden, where you can spot wonderful wildlife! This was our favourite place to visit out of our two week trip to Costa Rica, therefore, we couldn’t recommend it more! Nothing! Everything was perfect!
- Spacedog80 (10/5): The best stay in Costa Rica! - I can hardly describe how incredible and relaxing my stay at Los Paniquines was. Rafa and Esther were the most fantastic hosts I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. When my boat arrived, Rafa was already waiting for me on the beach, carrying my bag to the lodge, where I was warmly welcomed with a glass of Fresco.
Esther is an amazing cook, and when I asked for a lighter dinner with more vegetables, she and Rafa prepared a truly first-class dish for me. They even did my laundry, which I really appreciated after two weeks of traveling.
The lodge itself was perfect—clean, comfortable, and peaceful. It’s located just 100 meters from the beach, and you can take the path to the left into the wilderness, where you’ll find plenty of wildlife, or head right for a scenic walk of over an hour to Drake Bay, crossing an incredible river on a hanging bridge. Be sure to bring hiking shoes!
When it was time to leave in the morning, Rafa once again walked with me to the beach, carrying my bag and organizing the boat for me.
I would absolutely recommend this place, and who knows—maybe it will become your next holiday destination!
- Maciej (10/5): Exceptional - Rafa and his wife were amazing hosts and the way they take care of the guests is exceptional. The cabina is cleaned every day and new towels and bed sheets are provided every day. The food is amazing and super fresh cooked from the best ingredients. I loved to stay in Los paniquines. Highly recommend. None
- Matt (10/5): It’s Simply Perfect! - If you’re looking for a piece of paradise that’s off the beaten track but a 2 minute walk from a beautiful swimming beach, this is it. We can’t rave enough about this fantastic place. The room is very clean (and cleaned daily), the fan works great, the bed is super comfy and sheets and towels are changed frequently. There were even fresh flowers in our room and welcome coconut drinks when we arrived. The patio, which looks out onto the beautiful garden, is very tranquil and we saw a sloth, an ant eater and tons of birds, including toucans and hummingbirds right from the deck. The hosts, Rafa and Esther, are super helpful and assisted with ferry transportation from Sierpe, transporting our bags from the boat to the accommodation and did our laundry for a reasonable fee. Ester is a fantastic cook and every morning we had a different, delicious breakfast (included with stay). There is an onsite soda (simple restaurant) and everything we tried was very tasty. The ceviche was fresh and delicious and we tried every type of Casado (typical meal of rice, beans, salad and your choice of protein) as well as the tacos and hamburgers and found all to be well presented and yummy. This small, family run ecolodge is about an hour walk from Drake Bay along a beautiful, well marked trail. You can arrange for tours (dolphin, Cano Island snorkelling, Corcovado) to pick you up at one of the beaches close by so you don’t have to worry about not being in town. We loved our jungle experience so much we originally booked 5 nights but stayed 11! The wifi could be spotty in cabanas but it was always strong in the restaurant
- Anna (10/5): Perfectly peaceful paradise, the best we have been to in CR! - We absolutely loved everything here!
It was the best of the best of our stays in Costa Rica!
It is ran by a local family with great hospitality, Rafa and Esther.
We loved the peace & quiet, leash greenery around, the food cooked by Esther, the animals around, the welcoming atmosphere.
Take the full board option, it is fully worth it!
The cabin had a big porched with roof over it, so you can enjoy the outside also if it rains.
There were so many animals to admire from there! Scarlet macaws, two kinds of toucans, soo many birds, also capuchin & spider monkey.
There is also a 3 toed sloth on a tree at their place!
The beach is just 100m away. They will show you which part is safe for swimming.
Agujitas is 1:30hr trek away via San Josecito trail.
We arranged our boat in and out from/to Sierpe plus a day trip to Corcovado park with a great local guide via them.
The fan in our room was strong and we used it on a minimal volume during the night, so AC is not needed.
There wifi was strong. There is really nothing to complain about. We stayed there for 5 nights and felt we could have stayed more. Yes, there is no hot water, but to be honest in the Costa Rican temperatures we loved these refreshing showers and always felt better afterwards :)
- José (9/5): Great stay! Humble and good hearted people! - It is not a luxurious lodge, although the cabin had superb cleanliness and the bed was very very comfortable.
Blended with the locals.
Rafa and Ester were very attentive. Always in a good mood. Lots of good vibes.
The local Soda belongs to them. Ester is an amazing cook.
When I went there, it was raining heavily. Without much to do with those weather conditions, I could always go to soda and Rafa and Ester would make me company. Also David, one of Esters brother.
On my last night, while raining heavily, Rafa and one of Esters nephew helped me looking for a red eyed frog, since I haven’t seed any at the time. They got super wet, but helped me gladly and with a smile.
David borrowed me a Costa Rica wildlife book so I could check in there the animals I spotted.
The lodge is very close to the beach.
Rafa, Ester and David would ask me if I wanted to see this or that animal, every time they spotted one nearby.
Almost every neighbour is kind.
I definitely want to comeback to OSA peninsula, but this time on a sunny period And I will definitely stay in their lodge!
- Anne-mette (10/5): Exceptional - The most fantastic location away from tourist and direct at the beach with wildlife just outside.
The hosts were the so sweet and helpfull and the food was great.
- Wim (9/5): The perfect little jungle/beach hideaway to spend your last days in Costa Rica - Our stay with Rafa and Ester was perfect. They are a warm and welcoming family and they will make you feel right at home. Los paniquines is located at a stones throw from Playa Las Caletas. A nice quiet beach where you will get the chance to meet the locals at sunset. And see ballenas if you're lucky. No shops, no cafes, no restaurants, no noise from leaf blowers and grass cutters you would get in the fancy lodges. Just a couple of family run cabanas and an almost private soda where Ester will lovingly prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner whenever you want. No AC but we did not miss it one bit. No ocean view from the room to see the sunset, but who needs that when the sun sets at 6pm? Just go to the beach like the locals. This really was the perfect place to spend the last couple of days of our holiday.
- Craig (6/5): I thought it was a decent place with friendly staff but a bit overpriced - Good food included, friendly staff (speak little English), close to beach Advertised with ocean views, not true. Paid extra, didn’t receive 😟
No air conditioning, cold showers ( not always a bad thing), very spotty internet.
- Jg (10/5): The warmest of welcomes awaits you at this lovely gem in a spectacular location! Delicious food too! - We had a really lovely stay at Los Paniquines. The hosts Rafa, Estelle and Ingrid were so warm and welcoming. The little cabin was clean, spacious and comfy and the food and drinks included were absolutely delicious!! They could not do enough to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we need. The location was super fantastic too. Steps from absolutely beautiful Playa Caletas (with loads of other gorgeous, private beaches) along the Drake Bay hiking trail. So happy I came across this spot - it was a much nicer location to stay than staying directly in or north of the bay where we spent a couple more nights. Incredible value too! Go! Enjoy! Pura Vida! The only thing that could have made the stay more comfortable would have been a wall AC unit in the room or an extra fan! Everything was fantastic, clean and lovely. Thanks so much!
