Guest Reviews
- Michelle (10/5): Absolutely delightful weekend away - Lovely location on a vineyard, very cute sperate convict cottage as our room and such a warm welcome. We had a lovely wine tasting at the cellar door and really enjoyed some time away from our devices (although the reception was as bad as described :) ) Nothing, we had a lovely time and the way the location, facilities and room were described was spot on
- Vicki (8/5): Relaxing & lovely - Our stay was so relaxing & the room was so lovely & homley.
Thankyou you Adelaide for helping us with our stay.
Would highly recommend staying. They only thing would have been good to have a restaurant
On the premises.
- Colleen (8/5): Great value, very comfortable bed, plenty of hot water for showers. A nice quiet property. - Its rustic charm and winery setting. The lighting could have been better.
- Zacharias (10/5): Very relaxing stay close to other lovely wineries. - Location and large rooms. Parking good.close proximity to Berry. Areas such as Reception, needs better signage.
- dawn (10/5): -
- Malmi (10/5): Perfect getaway - Absolutely loved the place. Really relaxing environment.
- Brian (6/5): Lovely setting and characterful buildings but let down by poor facilities and equipment. Has potential to be brilliant i - Location and character. Easy after hours access. A fascinating place although not much information available to explain the evolution of the village. Room layout poorly thought through and lack of decent facilities such as only one cup and one mug. No table inside despite space. Spoons were either teaspoons or tablespoons. No heater or extraction fan in bathroom. Door difficult to open and lock.
- Claudia (10/5): - Everything about this place is beautiful, they even upgraded us to a cottage as we have stayed before love this place
- Darren (7/5): - Great location and property at large. We stayed in the old stables, door lock fiddle and the fridge had leaked creating a musty odour. Quaint Period stable/ room but needs some TLC to make it worth the money
- Tasfin (4/5): - The views are good and the cellar door experience was nice The kitchen cupboard had a big cockroach inside it so we couldn’t use any cups or plates. The room was not properly cleaned and had spider webbs behind the clothing cupboard as well which really made us uneasy. Fabric couch felt dirty so we had to put a bedsheet on top to even sit comfortably
- Lu (1/5): The worst hotel ever!!! Disgusting room and rude staffs. - Everything is terrible. Worst place I’ve ever been. We’ve been placed into rooms supposed to be under maintenance.(a slip of tongue by receptionist when I called and complained about the hygiene condition like no one ever cleaned the rooms and asked for refund.)
We arrived at around 7pm and collect keys in the box outside reception. The moment I stepped into the room, a cockroach climbed on my leg..dead animal bodies everywhere. Animal shit on bathroom floor. Terrible smell. Really not a condition to stay, and I am not a picky person as I have been to both expensive and cheap hotels in many countries. As reception was already closed, we called booking.com to notify the situation and had to rebook another hotel and drove in the dark.
Staffs from Booking.com said they contacted the hotel for refund but they never replied, so I called hotel myself as staff from booking.com suggested me to do. And I found out the rooms were supposed to be under maintenance..and the receptionist lied to me saying booking.com never contacted them, asking me to contact booking.com.
I did, the booking.com promised me they had contacted the hotel more than once. They said they would try again and at the meantime they suggested me to text the hotel within booking.com app.
So I did, firstly the hotel did not reply, finally they replied very rudely, not only did they refused to apologize or refund, but they also called me harassing them?! I felt we’ve been discriminated as they knew we are Asians from my name. As we met a white gentleman when we were leaving, we talked about why we couldn’t stay for the night, he was very surprised as their rooms were nice.
This hotel doesn’t care about their own reputation, so they don’t care customers’ experiences. Unless you ask for trouble, never ever choose this hotel!
- Arsalan (7/5): Old world charm. - It’s an old world Estate. A nod to a bygone era. It is dated, and screaming for an investor to make it worthy again.
- Smith (10/5): - Very friendly staffs and great location!
- Paul (4/5): Wouldn't stay again - Desperate for a bit of TLC. Blinds were broken, sink was cracked, bit missing off the tap, towels didn't appear clean, fridge needed to be defrosted.
- Brielle (8/5): -
- Diana (9/5): Every visit has been thoroughly enjoyable no matter the season. - Really liked everything but especially the grounds for wandering around and stretching our legs. Fascinating historical buildings and lovely panoramic views. The price meant that we only had a short stay.
- Susan (10/5): A beautiful setting - Charming and well appointed
- Tassone (6/5): -
- Gassin (8/5): -
- Amanda (9/5): -
- Johannah (8/5): -
- madeleine (6/5): I loved the place when I arrived but lack of air and roaches ruined it. - I loved the old buildings and character of the place and grounds There was no ventilation of the room. The window was painted shut/broken and no screen so could not open the window. The security screen on the door was not secure as the lock was broken so this could not be left open for air. I felt "closed in" without any fresh air. There were many large cockroaches in the room/bathroom and you could hear them running around surfaces all night.
- Jillian (8/5): -
- Miranda (10/5): Restful, peaceful and just right - We liked the heritage feel and the trusting nature of the staff Nothing
- Carmel (9/5): - Historical heritage, beautiful scenery. Pretty close to restaurants. Quiet place.
- Sam (8/5): -
- Lesley (1/5): We left after 1 hour and went home. - The location is good and the grounds are lovely. The room was not welcoming and was not the kind of space you would want to spend time in to relax. The couch looked liked it was picked up from the side of the road (dirty and uncomfortable). The other furnishings were also old and some were damaged and the room smelled of damp. The room is advertised as basic with no wi-fi. That's fine but at least provide somewhere comfortable to read a book. Three nights cost $850 so you would expect a bit of effort put into the upkeep of the room and furnishings, but not here.
- Jason (9/5): - Loved everything about this property
Character,charm & beautiful views
Highly recommend to anyone
- Erik (3/5): Cockroach’s - Winery Cockroach’s
- Angela (7/5): -
- Alexander (7/5): - Space Reception closing at 4pm
- Kai (5/5): Fine but won’t be returning - Cool idea and location was good for a winery Rather than being a cool quirk that it was historic it gave more ‘needs a renovation’. Also a bit creepy, pictures were a bit weird, recreation room smelt musty and rooms didn’t feel that secure.
- Paul (9/5): Peaceful and relaxing. - Check in was easy with any issue dealt with quickly. Issues related to deuteriation of the heritage aspects.
- Brittany (2/5): Not good - Nothing We got woken up numerous times due to the rooms either side of us. You could hear word for word conversations, tvs playing, showers going
- Christina Yijie (7/5): Simple but decent wedding weekend stay - A simple but decent place to stay for a wedding weekend in Berry in a converted half of a historic cottage. The king sized bed was very comfortable, towels were super thick and the kitchen amenities and TV were good. The estate was very picturesque and probably provides some nice activities if you're not out of the house for most of the day. It provided basic shampoo, body wash and moisturiser as well, and bar soap. Check-in and check-out was simple, especially after hours. The door lock was difficult to open - doorknob was very loose and the lock did not feel super secure. The flyscreen was also broken on the window, which meant we couldn't open the window at night for some air. The estate did not have wifi and phone signal was spotty.
- terry (6/5): -
- Newton (2/5): Never again - The restaurant was closed with no dinner or breakfast options. The reception is not staffed after 4:30pm.
- Rachel (9/5): -
- diana (10/5): a peaceful and delightful place - would be great with family and friends - a beautiful tranquil spot with lots of history. A really lovely place to stay. nothing
- Tracey (5/5): - Location
- glenn (5/5): -
- Florian (7/5): - Easy check in Cleanliness behind skin on the floor
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Philip (8/5): Charming historic place to relax and unwind in an excellent location - Historic charm and character, swimming pool, grounds and views of vineyards, pool table, games and table tennis Nothing
- samantha (8/5): Lovely setting and old cottages and buildings. Lovely grounds, things to do and not far from town - lovely setting and not far from town.
Room was spacious and tennis court, games room and bbq facilities available too room was a little noisy - old building so could hear our neighbors on the first night.
- Natalie (7/5): -
- Rodgers (9/5): -
- Ana Flavia (5/5): - Location, the grounds and the view. Towels and sheets were dirty
Leaky roof
Windows wouldn’t open.
- Iris (7/5): Schönes Anwesen, große Zimmer - Altes Weingut, Landschaft reizvoll Keine Sitzgelegenheit
Nasse Sachen konnten nirgends aufgehängt werden
Zu viele Insekten
- Jaroslav (8/5): -
- Benita (1/5): Disgusting, dirty, dilapidated and uncomfortable - Shoalhaven Heads is a nice spot. The sheets and towels were clean but nothing else was. The rooms are appalling, although at first glance they seem okay, otherwise I would have asked for my money back straight away. There were four of us and we had two rooms. Ended up being jealous of the people sleeping in their tents.
The bathroom was basically clean but nowhere clean enough. The floor waste was completely clogged up with dirt, hair, dust & #!? I made sure I kept the bath mat over it the whole time. And there was a broom hanging on the back of the door which would touch the towels hanging on the towel rail, yuck!
Just before going to bed I went to get a glass of water and noticed a piece of chipboard on the shelf, I thought there might be a bit of a leak in there, I got my phone and turned on the light, I was almost sick, it was disgusting!!!! It looks like a rat or mouse nest plus lots of spider webs. See photos. And clearly it has been a VERY long time since it was cleaned, this cupboard holds all the crockery, cutlery, utensils, toaster, etc. I would have moved out right then, however it was after 12 at night.
The window sill and surrounds are also disgusting, spider webs, dirt, dead flies, screen out, putty falling out and the sash mechanism does not work, it could cause an injury, very dangerous. See photos.
All around the door jamb is so dirty and the door doesn't seal top or bottom.
The other cupboards where the spare blanket and hanging spaces are is also dirty/ dusty.
And the carpet is also gross.
The beds were really not comfortable.
Would have liked to have spoken with someone in the morning, however we could not find any staff. I believe that anyone that can present rooms like that for paying guests probably would not be interested in feedback.
Their disclaimer about - don't complain about minor maintenance issues and it being rustic/charming doesn't work.
- Debra (10/5): Very enjoyable -
- Rose (10/5): -
- Kellie (9/5): Beautiful property - Great place to unwind. Beautiful property with great history. Handy to have wine tasting on site as well :)
- Theresa (9/5): Was a perfect location, very well kept property, grounds are so pretty and so peaceful. - Coolangatta Estate is a beautiful place to stay. The grounds are stunning and the afternoon sun around the pool was so nice. Our room was so clean and was so much nicer than the pictures. We weren't told about the free wine tasting on arrival.
- Arun (7/5): Relaxing stay over the weekend would definitely return - There is no restaurant on the property. The room provided was large and quite comfortable. It had most of the amenities one could ask for. The receptionist on site (Annalise, I think) was friendly and helpful and suggested dining options, etc. The grounds were very well kept and quite picturesque. Had a very quiet and comfortable sleep! Restaurant on site or some food options - a vending machine could help if the costs do not justify a fully serviced restaurant...and ice!
- Michael (6/5): Ok, but wouldn't go back. - Good location. Quiet. Entry door warped, very hard to open. No remote for air conditioner. No water glasses. Fridge needed defrosting, didn't work well. Dishes were provided but no tea towel. Outside light shone into bedroom, no curtains.
- Tristan (8/5): -
- Elsa (7/5): Overall it was alright. The views are amazing - Liked the views and its heritage, quite and private overall Probably a bit more cleaning, including outdoor seating area. It needs more airing of the room, especially toilet (strong smell). Some aged timber etc smell its ok part of the experience in historical sites.
- Lilli (10/5): - Room was neat and simply furnished with antique furnishings. Curtains were difficult to pull across to close.
- PETER (10/5): A most relaxing weekend in a wonderful location. - Spacious rooms and lovely views All good
- Lisa-Ann (8/5): -
- Claudia (10/5): - This place is absolutely beautiful the ppl that work there are so hospitable Can't say I didn't like anything
- Ben (8/5): -
- Naiomi (10/5): -
- Arnold (7/5): Pleasant enough - The location Property is rustic, needs an update. A few repairs required
- Michael (9/5): -
- Danny (7/5): - Location, quiet. Great to stroll around the property and relax. Nice to meet the owner at the Wine tasting. Very friendly. No WiFi, Lots of dust in the room. Cobwebs on the lights and ceiling. When my partner got into bed there appeared a poo from a small animal or insect on the sheet. We flicked it off into the corner of the room near the bed. Dust on the bedside lamp globe made me think the cleaning is down quickly. There was a dead cockroach on the floor near the toilet in the morning. Not too stressed. I was pleased to stay there. Just pointing out my experience .
- Fiona (10/5): Peaceful and scenic to relax in. - Welcoming staff, lovely grounds.
Cellar door was great for wine tasting.
Comfortable beds
Beautiful sunset on the hill. Just no vanity to place your bathroom items.
- Sean (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay in a unique place - Great unique stay at a historical place. So many interesting quirks whilst still has great facilities and really comfortable rooms. The cellar door experiences are so worth it, and all the staff were wonderful. Nothing - if you read the description and reviews, you know exactly what to expect.
- Sophie (8/5): - Huge room, basic but with everything we needed for a 2night stay - aircon, hairdryer, kitchenette.
- Rebecca (5/5): -
- Jong Ho (9/5): -
- David (2/5): -
- Tanika (7/5): - History and location
- Celia (7/5): -
- Sophie (9/5): -
- Api (10/5): Great -
- William (8/5): -
- CHRISTOPHER (9/5): Beautiful Vineyard getaway - Excellent location with historical convict cottages, modern bathroom and comfortable beds and furniture. Beautiful grounds around the vineyard. No ubers here in the evening if you want to get to shoalhaven heads for a meal or supermarket etc. On site restaurant is not 24/7 but sometimes this is a good thing you want to really switch off and disconnect
- Kathy (5/5): -
- Madeline (5/5): I would not return or recommend to any one. - Nice scenery convenient location. All the facilities need some TLC - not at all cosy and the Restaurant was very bad
- Kim (8/5): -
- George (10/5): -
- Keith (10/5): - The tranquillity of the place.
It's history
Being surrounded by vineyards The restaurant is closed.
- McQueen (9/5): - Very good views Sofa smelt damp , otherwise all ok
- Adam (8/5): -
- Caron (7/5): Perfect setting and staff are welcoming, but needs maintenance/upkeep. - Lovely aspect outside, surroundings beautiful The bathroom needed a good clean, lots of mould in shower recess and tiles beneath towel rack. Kitchen sink still had food in drain cover from previous occupancy. Bed was sagging on side I slept. Front door was hard to lock and unlock, also door had to be forced to shut or open (this could be humidity affected, but was like this last time I stayed, harder this time)
- Floyd (7/5): The place was amazing, I would come again. Just need wifi - The place was beautiful. It just needed wifi No wifi
- sammy (5/5): average - the open space Felt that the property is tired, feels like getting run down and not as nice as could be, especially with the restaurant closing and the front looks shabby
- Judy (7/5): Peaceful location - The traditional old buildings, and surrounding landscape of rolling hills and slopes of grapevines.
The bed was very comfortable. The temperature shotup to 40 degrees the day we arrived and the aircon was not working! However, there was a fan and they soon got someone to fix the aircon.
The rooms were not very soundproof so we could hear the people in the adjoining cottage talking. However, they were not there on the second night of our stay.
Disappointing that there was no restaurant.which had closed a few weeks earlier.
- Eva (9/5): This was a comfortable and beautiful place to stay with many nearby attractions - The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The outside space was great for the children to play and explore. The pool was very popular with the whole family We missed not having more cooking and clothes washing facilities
- Ngan (4/5): Staff are great. Air con works well. Unfortunately shower was full of mold. - Big room Shower is full of mold. Stayed downstairs of another booking so heard everything.
- Janelle (9/5): -
- Shenel (6/5): -
- David (8/5): - Nice
- Jane (6/5): So much potential - Beautiful setting and views and the lovely heritage buildings. Shower recess full of mould, BBQ left filthy, freezer completely iced up and had been for a long time. We had read lots of reviews prior and decided that people were not taking into account the age of the buildings.
The points we have made had nothing to do with the heritage of the buildings. Such a shame as this property has so much to offer. I was tempted to clean the shower with before and after photos, but not really what I had in mind for my holiday!
- Bhandari (10/5): -
- Heather (6/5): Our Review - Beautiful setting and comfortable bed. Bathroom facilities all good. Very dim lighting caused difficulties preparing a meal. Suggest blocking the gap under the door to stop bugs/ wildlife entering. We were besieged with mosquitos and an angry hornet also made itself known! Possible for a small snake also? We were disappointed that both the bar and restaurant were closed.
