Guest Reviews
- Bern (10/5): - Comfortable, v good location for visiting areas on S Uist. We’ll set out and very well equipped Heating system a little confusing
- Edwin (10/5): -
- Derek Methven (9/5): - Clean, comfortable all the required amenities and the Co-op next door. Nothing.
- Alexander (10/5): 10* - Everything! Was very cosy, lovely area, owner was a big help. 10 out of 10, will be back for sure Can't fault anything
- Derek (10/5): Great little place - super-convenient location - Perfect little place for what I needed as a traveller using public transport on one of my favourite Hebridean islands. Great location, lovely host and very good facilities. The Toolshed was brighter and more airy than I expected, thanks to the large skylights throughout - a treat to look at the stars from your bed!
Hoping to return in the future. All was great, but I left earlier than planned to ensure a ferry-crossing back to the mainland (my original booked one was later eventually cancelled - so didn't regret my caution) - an habitual risk in this part of the world outwith the calmer seasons.
- John (10/5): Lovely break - Everything was there it was clean and cosy Nothing
- Pieter (8/5): - A very nice accommodation for a good price.
- Christine (10/5): - Great wee studio had everything we needed, right next door to the coop, ideal for exploring the islands, handy for ferry terminal. Nothing
- David (9/5): Everything I hoped for. - Comfortable bed, modern well-appointed kitchen and shower room. No TV signal, WiFi signal cut out at one point. Bed would be tight for two people.
- Lorraine (10/5): Absolute gem. - Great location next to a shop, 2 mins to pub/restaurant and 3 mins to ferry.
Beautifully decorated. A home from home. Everything you need has been thought through.
Barbara was a godsend when we were stuck for accomodation after a tent disaster and changed her plans to accommodate us. Nothing. It was perfect.
- Mary (9/5): Superb - After our ferry back to Lewis was cancelled with only a couple of hours notice with no alternative route available for four days, The Toolshed came to our rescue for an unplanned stay on South Uist. It had all that we needed and, as we only had enough clothes for our original overnight stay, the washing machine came in really useful! As did the Coop next door. Barbara, our host, was super helpful which made a rather stressful experience that much better.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Close to the local shop and easy access to all the sights.
Lovely place to stay. No issues.
- Colin (8/5): Very enjoyable, welcoming clean and good location - Very conveniently located lacked hooks for wet out door coats, chest of drawers for clothes, bedside lights and shelf for glasses water etc
- Janet (7/5): Good -
- Marianna (10/5): Such a cosy and well-equipped place to stay during our time in Uist. Great location as well. Thank you! -
- Colin (9/5): Superb - Great location next-door to co-op and five minutes from Borrodale hotel for excellent food.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (10/5): Nice for work or holiday - Property was warm, cosy and clean well equipped and comfy Nothing
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - My 2nd visit there as it is fab home from home with all the things you need. A comfortable bed, clean fresh bedding and a rainfall shower sheer bliss.
And a us point its right next to a well stacked Coop!
Only minutes from Lochboisdale ferry or an hour approx to Lochmaddy ferry. I love to cook my own choice of food so always take everything with me (inc my airfryer). Nothing other than i would like to stay longer !
- Ciaodreamer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandra (10/5): Lovely place to explore the islands - Lovely little place, had everything one needs, very well equipped kitchen, very good bed, Barbara was lovely
- Demi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isla (9/5): This was a perfect bolthole for our adventures across the islands, with all the facilities we needed - There was various option to ensure the place was the right temperature (among fluctuating weather!), provision of things like sugar, tea, laundry detergent, etc etc, and location.
- Nicola (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable for a solo traveller - would be rather cosy for two. Excellent location for the hills.
- Gault (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (6/5): Pleasant - It was clean and nicely decorated. Warm and all pots etc clean. Quiet and as we had bad weather, the Co-op being next door was brilliant! Bed not very comfortable and having to climb across bed, not good. Just a bit too tiny. There were no windows (one in bedroom, frosted, and didn't open). Be useful to tell punters you only get sky lights. So no view?? The clear glass front door just looks out on a green fence. Shame as Uist has stunning scenery. TV a disaster....it had subtitles on screen and we struggled to clear them. We do know how to do this, usually. We also needed to load our BBC iPlayer in order to see any news etc. Weather appalling so the TV could have been a godsend but was very disappointing! Barbara wasn't able to help .We did have problems parking in designated place as staff and shoppers often parked there. There is nowhere to park if that happens. Otherwise we did enjoy our visit.
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Great base for exploring uist, our host was lovely and friendly. Right next to a coop and a hotel which served fantastic food. Absolutely recommend staying here. No garden at the property but other than that it was fantastic!
- Barbara (8/5): Very good - Clean comfortable and had everything we needed for our 4 day stay on South Uist. Next door to Coop and 5 mins walk to The Borrodale Hotel. N/A
- Ailean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Findlay (10/5): Exceptional - Loved this place.
Great location.
The Toolshed has everything you need.
Barbara has really thought about what travellers require.
Kitchen had all the utensils you could ever need. The bedroom was comfy, nice mattress so slept really comfortable.
Nice modern bathroom too.
Great to have fast broadband and all the apps on the TV.
There is a coop next door which stays open till 10pm. It has everything you need to make a meal. Or if you don't want to cook you can buy convenience foods.
Great location for exploring the South or North .
Thank you Barbara, very relaxing place to stay
- Ruth (8/5): Perfect location! Great time of unwinding and discovering a new place. - Loved the location; an excellent base. Also liked that the accomodation wasn't fancy; certainly nice, clean and comfortable; I really just used it as a base. Only wee thing is that, for me, the bed was a little uncomfy.... but I know that everyone has different ideas of what a comfortable mattress feels like. I was also pretty whacked at the end of the day so the discomfort was only momentary until I quickly fell asleep.
- Nicholas (8/5): Worked well for me - Clean and comfortable Location
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jana (10/5): Exceptional - A fantastic spot. Shop is right next door. The property was clean and fully equipped with anything one might need. The skylight windows were absolutely fantastic. Perfect for 2 people.
- Kenneth (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (8/5): Very good - Comfortable and modern. Suitably located next to a coop store. 5 minutes from Lochboisdale ferry terminal. Bedroom a little compact. Cosy still.
- Graham (8/5): Very neat and tidy accommodation with great location for exploring the islands - Very handy to visit the various local islands from. Right next door to the coop so no need to bring provisions if you are self catering. Compact but ideal for two people A little compact with two dogs
- Liz (8/5): A short stay in a convenient location. - Close to coop so easy to shop. This contrasts with my home in Norfolk! Too hot as sky lights did not open
- Jane (10/5): Wee butt n Ben - The toolshed is small but perfect for a base to return to each night after work/sightseeing. Barbara has thought of nearly everything you could need, a well equipped kitchen, lovely large shower and a comfy bed, plenty of towels etc. It is situated next to the coop so anything you need is just 1 min away. Nothing, only constructive point would be to change a couple of sockets from standard to having a USB charging point on them.
- Clare (10/5): Great place to stay. - Convenient location and ideal space for a solo traveler
- Denise (10/5): Amazing - It was beautiful, the location right next to the supermarket was perfect. The Toolshed is equipped with everything you need and more. We wish we could have stayed even longer!
- Hazel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Audrey (10/5): We had a very enjoyable stay exploring a beautiful area. - It was very spacious, and very well equipped with everything we could need. It was modern and clean. It was well located for the sights, and for the ferry ports. There was no designated parking. We had to park in the coop car park, as there was nowhere else.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (8/5): Beautiful property that offered a home from home experience. - I liked the quality finish of the property. I did not like that the only accessible window, did not have a key to open it.
