Guest Reviews
- Rygel (7/5): - A character filled property with a natural charm and feel. Within striking distance of the centre. Good value for a group booking party who want an interesting bolthole as they experience Ludlows highlights.
- Stuart (10/5): -
- Gary (10/5): Wonderful stay, highly recommend. - The house was amazing, the location was excellent, short walk into Ludlow. Alice was lovely and very easy to communicate with. Nothing to improve
- Richard (10/5): - Great location and amazing house. We struck gold here! We all loved the house and views across the hills. It has to be one of the best houses we have ever stayed in, and a welcome pack that we thought was the icing on the cake (not pun intended). Great hosts, let us know when the house was ready. Easy walk into town too.
- Picken (10/5): - Kennet House is beautiful, interesting and spacious but also felt really comfortable and cosy. We had everything we needed. Thank you so much
- Alison (9/5): A wonderful stay in a unique property. - The property had so much character and we all loved the locality. Nothing

- Michael (10/5): Amazing, unusual house. - The space available was superb. Having access to 2 living rooms and 2 bathrooms was ideal as travelled with older parents.
Everything we needed was included. Access to extra tv channels was a great help.
Parking on drive was very helpful.
Great views from rooms.
The location was excellent. Ludlow centre was a 10 minute walk or there was a pub/ restaurant at the top of the street which was 5 minutes walk away.
- Toby (9/5): Superb -
- David (7/5): Good - Excellent location in Ludlow .
Size of the house and quirky design of victorian house.
The view out over Shropshire. Could do with some TLC ,as looks tired in places.( light hanging from ceiling amongst things)
Tv channels didn't work ,sky appears to not have been paid or is not available, no terrestrial aerial available.
Pots and pans in kitchen could do with being replaced with those suitable for halogen hob.Utensils also could do with being updated.
No kitchen roll or foil available.
AGA not really suitable for preparing a meal for more than 2 people .plug sockets in kitchen haven't been thought out as to their location.
- Bethany (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (2/5): Quirky house but in need of an overhaul and lots of work required on it. - Comfortable beds and good views Many of the domestic appliances were not working properly. Toaster not working, microwave kept blowing fuse, TV in kitchen downstairs not connected so couldn’t work it. Some electrical sockets were very loose. Toilet downstairs had no proper lock on it, toilet seat downstairs very loose. No hot water in shower downstairs. Outside garden steps not suitable for elderly people or very young toddlers. The house was not clean, cobwebs and dust everywhere, garden completely overgrown. Did not represent value for money.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb - Beautiful house, very quirky and so unique! What a privilege to be able to visit and stay in such a place. Ideal for staying in Ludlow, only a 15 minute walk into town. 2 parking places and so much space! Loved it and hope to return :) It's a quirky period property but we had everything we needed for our stay - might not be for everyone, but we loved it. Very charming.
- Maxwell (8/5): Very good - Comfortable, eclectic house with eclectic interior and exterior design. Has all the facilities one might require. Good location with a lovely garden and views of surrounding hills and centre of Ludlow. Binder of instructions for use of facilities could be shortened and updated, in particular the information about the cat and its food (neither of which were seen or found) and the wifi password (2 indicated in binder, neither of which worked, then on our last morning my 83 year old uncle found the current password on a piece of paper on the hutch in the entrance hall). Some odd functional quirks should be addressed, such as repairing the flush handle on the upstairs toilet, clearer instructions on how to use the AGA range-oven in the kitchen, should one need more than the microwave, toaster and kettle (we didn’t), and how to use the fire places (which aren’t wood burning as mentioned in the binder).
- Juliet (10/5): Ideal place to stay for access to Ludlow. Very comfy beds - Quirkiness and comfy beds Nothing
- Sigrun (8/5): A nice place to stay - A rather quirky house with nice views from the living room.
It’s lacking a bit of tlc and the kitchen in the cellar was a it difficult for the elderly people in our party. The table isn’t really big enough and not very comfortable to sit down for a meal.
We had real trouble getting the gas fire going in the living room.
The garden can’t be used as there is building or repair work going on. It takes about 15 minutes to walk into town.
The owners kindly agreed to bring our guide dog what was much appreciated.
- Jackie (8/5): Home from home with eclectic decor. Fantastic place to relax in - Quirky x felt like I had waked into a warm home x loved all the personal belongings books to read, games to play and of course the piano to enjoy
Arga stove was fun to learn how to cook with The outside garden area is under repair so was a bit hazardous
Lights in bathroom flickered and bulbs needed replacing
- Alison (8/5): Fabulous family gathering in a memorable place. - The house is brimming with character and we loved the aesthetic. Felt immediately at home. Beds were comfortable with excellent quality bed linen and towels. The two tvs were a struggle to work…this was only an issue as we had an elderly relative who wanted some quiet time watching tv whilst the rest of us were out and about.
- Lesley (8/5): Very good - Loved loved the house Tv's didn't work
- Beth (10/5): We had a comfy enjoyable stay, I would return & recommend. Good value for money. - Easy I would of liked the door code sooner.
- Lorna (10/5): The house was lovely, the location was great. -
- Marianne (9/5): Beautiful spacious house in a great location - a great place to catch up with friends. - The house was beautifully spacious, plenty of room for 3 couples. The Aga made the kitchen lovely and warm and once we had the heating turned to auto the house was beautifully warm too. the bedrooms were nice and big with lovely fluffy towels to use. Views from the house were spectaculor and the walk into town easy. Great location for sightsing and plenty of eating choices in Ludlow. Generally everything was good - some small attention to detail could improve things. E.g. the kitchen cupboards/drawers etc need a clean out - the drawers had a lot of fluff and crumbs as well useful items & the plate racks had quite a lot of cobwebs and the odd spider or 2!
Would have been good to know that the shower in the upstairs bathroom didn't work, but we all managed with the downstairs shower.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (10/5): Very enjoyable in an amazing accomodation -
- Kerry (3/5): Disappointing - The beds were comfortable, the house was within walking distance of town, nice views.
The host also agreed for us to check in early at 2pm instead of 4pm Cummunication with host was awful and questions were only answered 2 days before our stay and only then after we had messaged via booking.com, email, text and phone calls to 2 different numbers, (the phone number on the property details is not manned and you cannot leave a message. There were two bathrooms one of which was in the basement. Garden was overgrown, the seating area had a vase of rotting flowers on there, there was also rubbish in garden. House is on the main road into Ludlow with a railway track at the end of the back garden. Dining table was so narrow and sqeezed into a dining room area. We ran out of toilet rolls in one of the bathrooms on the last night and also we were only left one dishwasher tablet for 5 people over two nights. No instructions for any of the applicances. House was very dusty and full of cobwebs. Showers were poor. We were left bottles of cider but would rather have been left some salt and maybe tea/coffee/sugar. Lots of labels on items explaining they weren't working/old and the oddities of how they work, eg flick the toliet flush up before flushing, they weren't quirky---just get it fixed! Decor was very tired downstairs and the lounge was uninviting and cold, we couldn't get the gas fire working and trying to reach the controls we were covered in cobwebs, curtain rail fell down in the bedroom on the top floor. there was no hairdryer that we could find.
It wasn't an issue for us, but there are lots of stairs in the house which maybe an issue for some.
Check out at 10.30am hardly makes for a relaxing Sunday morning!
- Chris (9/5): Superb - Everything about the stay was brilliant. Quirky house with everything to hand. Apart from kitchen knives! No sharp knives for food preparation.
- Alan (10/5): Individual property - Eclectic decor, location and comfort. Nothing
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic little gem, close to the town. Unique and beautiful. - The location, the quirkiness, the ambience. Beds were so comfortable.
- Sheila (9/5): Great house to stay in with friends or a family. Beautiful views, short walk into town. - Location was around a 10-15 minute walk into town. It was uphill for part of the way but then Ludlow is hilly! The house itself was great for our needs, well equipped, really beautifully decorated. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly, calling me with the lock box code and making herself available if needed. We weren't aware that the second bathroom was down in the basement (as was the kitchen which wasn't a problem). Everything else was as expected.
- Sarah (10/5): A great weekend and in a great location enjoying Ludlow spring festival! - Great location not too far to walk into town and intriguing house! Very characterful and very well equipped Nothing
- Jane (10/5): Amazing, quirky and cosy! - The house is so quirky but beautifully furnished and is warm and comfortable. The immediate support from the owners on any issues is a bonus. The house is so cosy and welcoming and the ideal place for a group of friends or a family party. We stayed the weekend and loved it!
- Sally (8/5): Very good -
- Kate (8/5): Very good - Unique and characterful house that was attractively furnished and decorated. Beautiful views. Very comfortable beds. The owner was very helpful when we arrived and there was wine and an elegant arrangement of flowers from the garden waiting for us.
- Anna (10/5): Loved it and wanted to stay longer - Beautiful, unique, quirky, spacious and comfortable
- Laraine (1/5): We spent a very cold weekend without a hot shower and felt it wasn’t value for money - The beds were comfortable When we arrived there were no instructions and the house was cold. We could not turn the thermostat up further than 12 degrees. We tried to light the gas fire upstairs but the gas had been cut off to the fire and did not work. The same with the fire downstairs. We spent a very cold weekend under blankets. The upstairs shower was broken and did not work properly. The toilet was difficult to flush and the downstairs shower was dirty and not useable. The dishwasher did not work properly. The food bin in the kitchen hadn’t been emptied for a long time and posed a health hazard in fact the general cleanliness of the house was poor.
Outside the garden hadn’t been tended and was overgrown and in most parts inaccessible.
- Trevor (7/5): Great place to stay, good value for money and a super location - Loved it’s quirky architecture and style. Comfortable beds. Great location A bit tatty in places. The shower head was unattached and the button to switch it on was broken.
- Gwenan (10/5): Brilliant - Beautiful house in a great location. Amazing views of Ludlow
- Jon (10/5): Lovely short break - The style of the home. Spacious. Nothing
- Lynda (9/5): Superb - Lovely house Would have loved a welcome pack
- Zuzanna (10/5): Overall I enjoyed my stay. Whole family loved the house. - Beatiful decor, view, close to Ludlow centre, communication with owner Im not used to stairs so having kitchen in basement, living area on ground, and bedrooms on different floors made my legs cramped a bit.
- Anonymous (10/5): Wonderful house and wonderful stay and great communication from the host. Thank you - Wonderful large property perfect for our family weekend away. A few small bit that didn’t work or where a bit quirky but nothing major that effected our stay :)
- Anonymous (10/5): Fab stay with family in a perfect location. Great house with everything you need - Beautiful property short walk into Ludlow approx 12 mins. Beds extremely comfortable. Great location and loved the quirkiness of the property. Nothing was lovely property
- Susan (10/5): Perfect for us. A beautiful quirky house with lots of character. - Everything Nothing
- Short (9/5): We had a very lovely stay at Kennet House. I certainly would recommend it to others. - The house was delightfully quirky and very comfortable. Beds and sheets were lovely! It was in a fine location providing fab views from the windows and only 20 mins walk into town. Ludlow itself is an excellent area to visit. There was a great supply of books and some board games. Kitchen had everything we needed. I wish I had know there had been a piano and then I would have bought my own music. There was plenty of room. The host provided a small hamper of food/wine which was a lovely surprise. The host was helpful with directions when it came to freak weather and flooding that weekend... We struggled understanding the heating system and we couldn't get the gas fire to work. Some written information on this would have been helpful - maybe we just didn't find it. Also the TV near the kitchen did not pick up a signal, but the main one in the living room was fine so it wasn't really an issue. A supply of extra light bulbs and batteries would have been useful.
- Mr (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (9/5): Beautiful quirky Victorian house - Amazing eccentric Victorian house - beautiful architecture. Very comfy beds and amazing views from lounge and most bedrooms. Easy walking distance of historic Ludlow. Really special place - would stay again. Only two parking spaces, but there was additional road parking a few minutes walk away so not a problem. A few doors needed a lick of paint but it didn't bother me as everything else was so great.
- Sarah (10/5): Stunning house that comes highly recommended! - I stayed with family for wedding at Rhyse Farm about 20min drive away and we were blown away by the size of the house, it's comfort and quirkiness! We only used 3 of the 4 bedrooms - all of which are spacious doubles. The beds were super comfy and the location is quiet at night. My 6yr old nephew made use of the children's books which was a great bonus! Lovely fresh seasonal flowers around the home and gorgeous views from the huge windows. All our family at the wedding were very envious of our accommodation as none of them were very happy with their hotels. Couldn't really fault anything seriously and would 100% recommend! Very minor points that wouldn't stop me staying or recommending again but might be worth noting for others
- as someone else mentioned the upstairs toilet is pretty tricky to flush and seemed to get worse as time went on.
- Don't 'expect' any welcome pack even though it's mentioned in others reviews, I thought we 'might' be left some basics like bread and milk having read another review but luckily there are big supermarkets in town not very far away.
- The garden isn't really useable as on a steep slope and completely over grown but there is a small deck area you can access, might be useful to know if you have young children.
- While there are leaflets for things to do in the surrounding area etc it would be handy for a house manual perhaps, we didn't know how to get the tv on or work the bluetooth speaker but ultimately wasn't a huge issue for us.
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (10/5): Absolutely fantastic house with stunning views. The house felt like a home. - Loved the house, beautiful building, decorated really well and extremely comfortable. A bit of a leaning curve trying to cook using the Aga, but we managed.
- Cerys (9/5): Amazing house - A unique and beautiful house. Comfy beds and beautiful views, all the necessary amenities and walking distance to Ludlow. Much appreciated welcome gift on arrival. Great host. We really enjoyed our stay. Some lights didn't work and there is a bit of a 'knack' to flushing the upstairs toilet. We were told the garden is a work in progress, it is difficult to walk down through but will also be as lovely as the house again one day.
- Jtmiddle (9/5): Amazing house in a great location. - Beautiful house in a great location. Very spacious, well equipped, beds very comfy. Felt very homely. Nice welcome pack on arrival of wine, bread, milk, butter, biscuits and chocolate as well as a supply of tea/coffee and sugar.
About a 12 minute walk down into Ludlow which is a lovely small town with some great pubs and restaurants.
Great communication with the owner leading up to our arrival. Struggled with the Aga. Tried to cook a pizza in it at about 8pm and it took about 45 mins instead of 10 mins. Not sure if it cools down in the evenings, but no other oven to use.
There is a garden which is a work in progress and not very usable at the moment. There is a decking area but steep rocky steps to get to it. Didn't cause us an issue as we weren't at the house a lot of the time during our stay.
- Rob (9/5): wonderful and slightly unusual house. Lovingly kept in an excellent location - excellent breakfast hamper supplied could do with a welcome pack with instructions ie we couldnt get the fire to work or find the wifi code
- Henrietta (9/5): gorgeous spacious and beautiful decorated house with stunning views - absolutely gorgeous house. owners were great and responsive when we arrived and a power cut had turned the heating off, handyman was over quickly and soon had it sorted, he even dropped by a day later to check everything was ok.
beautifully decorated and comfortable house. stunning views and very comfy beds!
owners kindly provided an arrival gift box of lovely treats which we all enjoyed. beautiful daffodils really brightened up the place too!
house is in a perfect location, easy walking into town with shops and restaurants nearby. good parking and easy to get out to other places. we had a wonderful few days and the weather wasn’t kind to us it didn’t matter as we loved spending time in the house. a couple of things missing from the kitchen that would have been helpful (cloth, scourer, some cooking implants) but these are minor in the grand scheme of things and didn’t make our stay any less enjoyable!
