- Bec (1/5): a truly harrowing experience. - The location was great, and it was easy to get in. The host was very responsive and did genuinely try to assist. When we arrived, we immediately entered to the smell of mildew and mold. It was very stuffy and not aired out. When we put our bags down we immediately saw black mold growing inside several artworks, both on the downstairs wall and the stairway wall. We were very disturbed, as we had two young children with us. When our kids ran upstairs, they yelled down that their bedroom, and the bathroom connected to it, smelled like rotten eggs, which we confirmed it did. Upon coming back downstairs, we saw that there were multiple water stains and additional places with mold. We contacted both booking.com (which was immensely unhelpful) and the host. He informed us that there had been water damage previously and that's why the paintings were full of mold, however there were more instances of mold not just located in one area. He was actually very apologetic and said his housekeeper hadn't informed him of the issue. I will also say the apartment, although the same location as the photos, is significantly more worn down than in the pictures. What is shown as a bright an area home, in person, is worn down, with most of the decorations in the pictures removed. We had to leave in the middle of the night to stay somewhere safer, as I wasn't comfortable risking my children's health. This incurred additional expenses, including losing all the food we had purchased to stay in the house for the week, a new hotel, and many other expenses as well. I will never use booking.com again, as I received zero help from them, and had to take my kids to a random place late at night in a foreign country, and never received a single follow-up message from booking.com.
