Guest Reviews
- Tim (9/5): -
- Tanis (10/5): - Beautiful view. Great happy hour drinks. Loved the food. Shampoo and conditioner smelled amazing!
- Olga (6/5): Beautiful concept and location, but comfort and sleep quality due to heat and noise were a big issue for me. - Authentic design, beautiful location in Monteverde, and a very strong connection with nature and the surrounding environment. No air conditioning!!! Meaning that during the day the rooms get very hot. There is also no proper thermal insulation and almost no sound insulation, so you can hear your neighbors very clearly — you can actually make out conversations from the next room.
The wooden structure itself carries a lot of noise, and when it’s windy the whole hotel moves, creaks, and makes sounds all night. Sleeping was very difficult because of the constant noise from the wind, the building itself, and outside sounds. At times it honestly felt like being inside a ghost house.
- Mabel (10/5): Hermoso fin de semana 💞 - Es extraordinario, me sentí muy confortable, las instalaciones hermosas y el personal muy atento.
- Ralitza (10/5): -
- eb5a353478bd72da454b7942d3319663 (10/5): - The art , the food, the staff, and the architecture was outstanding.
- fa111a5d5e1d7253495d530c6859052c (7/5): Nice but needs enhancements - Restaurant views, location and breakfast. Bed was comfortable. Brewpub by the lake is also beautiful Not very clean, especially common areas. No proper insulation in Room windows and it was too noisy at night with strong winds outside.
- Hélia Gonçalves Pereira (8/5): Espaço muito acolhedor, com - Localização
A varanda do quarto
O terraço do restaurante
- laurent (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Amazing location, hotel and staff - The setting, all the facilities and buildings. The onsite brewery and relaxing space. Room was beautiful with amazing views out to the Pacific Ocean. Nothing.
- Lauren (9/5): This resort is everything I love about Costa Rica. - It was beautiful. The food was delicious. No fitness center
- denise (10/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Loved sitting outside and listening to the birds. Beautiful experience.
- Joanne (5/5): Unmemorable - The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a drink in the bar by the lagoon. The small local gifts each evening were a nice touch. We really enjoyed the night walk we booked through the hotel. We had one evening meal in the restaurant and it was very disappointing. Not at all what we had been expecting from a top priced hotel. Bland, overcooked and unseasoned food. Worst meal of our trip so far. The following night we went to family run Tingos at the bottom of the hill and had a delicious meal. Same story at a similar priced nearby hotel.
Breakfast was somewhat better with several options.
As per other guests’ comments, we were in a separate building away from the main hotel which was dated. The room was cold, draughty and very noisy. We didn’t sleep well.
- Jeremy (8/5): A Very Enjoyable Stay With Excellent Service, Good Food, Drinks & Tours - Room 22 is in the main hotel block directly below the restaurant and overlooks the sloping gardens towards the west, so it's good for sunsets.
The service was top quality throughout.
If you like Hendricks & Tonic, this is a must here. Be patient as it gets constructed...
We didn't dine but did have the Nachos with chicken which was excellent and a meal in itself.
The gardens, lake and microbrewery are good.
We did 3 tours through the hotel. The first was the evening forest immersion which started out a bit slowly but livened up significantly with the rope bridge, tree climb and subsequent rapelle down the tree in the dark. The second tour was bird watching with guide Daniel, which started in the hotel garden, continued over breakfast on the balcony before driving to the Curi Cancha reserve (this being an alternative venue to the default Savia venue). Daniel logged every bird and shared it with the group.
Lastly we did the Finca Madre horse riding tour, which could be challenging depending on your riding skills and willingness of your horse (mine was a total challenge). The room was a simple box with a patio door, rather lacking in character, unlike the public areas which fitted the Alpine chalet style.
The bathroom layout, particularly the toilet, was odd. It would benefit from a nightlight so you don't have to use the bright, main light at night.
Also the shower, although good, doesn't have a hand held head, which the ladies prefer.
The breakfast is a la carte with some unusual "sandwhiches", some of which work, but others didn't.
There needs to be signs for the hotel turning on the main road. The unmade track beside the garage doesn't seem the right way to access an up market hotel.

- Ajay (2/5): Very poor for a Suite in the 2nd best hotel in Monteverde - The views - Suite accessibility wasn’t great (ours was in a separate building, on 2nd floor, only stairs to get to it
- Road behind made it noisy and car lights reflected in (curtains not black-out and not even on all windows)
- Very windy (can’t help that), but not well soundproofed and lots of drafts - also no heating or a/c! I had some very bad sleep and the wind would wake me up in the night!
- Bathroom was very poor - look like a concrete room, many drafts again and no heating!
- Suite had a whirlpool on the balcony, which was pointless for Monteverde, and the jets didn’t even work!
- Hotel was jacuzzi was a long distance from our Suite
- Dirty old sofa in the bedroom and weirdly; in the shower too!
- Tedi (8/5): Beautiful and clean - Very beautiful, amazing staff , clean room with great amenities. Grounds are beautiful I got food posting from the fish- so not ideal for only having two days in Monte Verde.
- Katlin (10/5): -
- Madhuri (10/5): Blissful stay - Vibe, people, peace, quiet Ants in the room for food
- Dylan (10/5): -
- Katierjw (10/5): Fabulous stay in a wonderful hotel with friendly staff - The location was fantastic, close to the Monteverde reserve, walking distance to some lovely restaurants although some were a little further.
Breakfast was delicious, loads of choice and a selection of sides/fruit/hot drinks etc included. Lovely view over the lake and towards the sea from the restaurant.
We had dinner here once and it was very good quality.
Also highly recommend Tramonti pizzeria nearby for food and views.
- Bob (7/5): Fine but not memorable - Staff No pool.
- Jo (10/5): -
- Marc (3/5): Much better hotels near by at the same cost. - Not really sure, the staff in the hotel are friendly however the population are so friendly We stayed in the chalet across from the reception it felt like a hostel in the style of a Swiss chalet the room was really tired .
- Maurice (10/5): What a lovely little jewel of a hotel. We regret staying for only two nights. - Literally everything from the moment we stepped in. The room, the amenities, the staff, the food, the massage and yoga, and the breathtaking location in beautiful Monteverde. Nothing we can think of.
- Hazel (9/5): Fue un viaje de descanso y aniversario. - La atención del personal Las almohadas y ruido del piso de arriba
- William (9/5): -
- Manuela (9/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Just perfect place to enjoy the beauty of Monteverde. Will definitely go back - The view and the hospitality Nothing
- Forestier (10/5): - Amazing view, hotel and food. Great yoga and activities proposed at the hotel. Amazing food and brewer experience overall, very nice staff and great views all around! Nice pound and terrasse. Treetopia and other activites very expensive.
- paula (10/5): An excellent base for a stay in Monteverde - The size of the rooms, the view from the terrace, the beautiful gardens and the helpful friendly staff.
- Joana (10/5): -
- Alejandro (10/5): Living in the clouds! - It’s beautiful and self sufficient, surrounded by the forest, the clouds, the views!!!
- Christine (10/5): - The breakfast was fresh, filling, and provided a great variety! The property was pristine and provided so many gorgeous views. Everything was amazing!
- Nicola (8/5): Very good -
- Brittsmith (8/5): A nice stay in the clouds of Monteverde! - I liked the concept of the hotel. It was what I imagined an eco-lodge to be. The rooms were comfortable but not what I would consider luxurious. There is no air conditioning, which is not a dealbreaker given the cool climate in Monteverde. However, it is something to be aware of. There are also no televisions in the room. I appreciated this because it allowed us to experience more of the property and truly relax in our rooms or on the patio swing overlooking the garden. The bathroom was small, but functional. Overall, the hotel property was nice, and the grounds offered varied activities. I didn't like the location of our room, which was under the hotel restaurant. We could hear chairs banging around above us. There were also multiple other families on this floor with small children, who we could hear in the halls. It seemed as though all of the families were placed in the same area of the hotel.
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional - We had a gorgeous room. Could easily walk into the little town to visit shops and see some things. The food is absolutely delicious. Top notch. Every excursion is quite expensive. Would have been nice to have some complimentary activities considering the rooms were very expensive.
- April (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel, good room, great balcony. Free yoga class, nice grounds. Restaurant was very good. 2 out for 3 breakfasts there was no avo toast available! Was a little way from town would need to drive to other restaurants, luckily hotel restaurant was good
- Shir (8/5): Very good -
- Jiayu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (8/5): Very good - The rooms were beautifully finished and very comfortable. It was amazing waking up there every day with special views from the breakfast terrace. The food was really good from their own garden and we enjoyed spending time at the brewery after long walks exploring too. we loved our room with great views and open to the large bathroom however there were not curtains on the bathroom so we woke up very early when jet lagged. That was our only complaint. It was very comfortable hotel otherwise.
- Saikiran (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderfully maintained property.
- Alda (6/5): Beautiful serene rooms, excellent service but not peaceful at all - We stayed for 2 nights. The facilities are beautiful and the rooms incredible but both mornings our room was woken up by loud maintenance work. The first morning was loud sawing followed by hammering and the next morning by hammering. The beautiful serene rooms were not accompanied by peaceful rest. The loud noises both started just before 7am. When we checked in, I was so excited as the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, but unfortunately this stay was the least sleep I got on my entire trip.
- Narine (5/5): Passable -
- Jennifer (10/5): Beautiful - Beautiful
- Deborah (7/5): Nice place but v noisy for sleeping and overpriced - Friendly staff, good location Rooms were v cold and windows not sealed so wind howled all night. Impossible to sleep Food ok but v expensive for what it is
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Uwe (9/5): Very nice - Professional staff and great view from our balcony. Flexible to meet costumer requirements. Few easy things to make the stay even more comfortable. Fresh fruit and water in the jacuzzi area. More reasonable prices for breakfast and in general for any other additional offerings.
- Deb (10/5): An outstanding stay - would highly recommend! - We did the ficus and farm visit excursions and absolutely loved both of them, as did our 10 year old son. The location, room size and staff were all excellent too.
- Mrs (10/5): Hotel Belmar is just the epitome of laid back luxury!! Loved our experience with you! Thank you! - Loved Hotel Belmar!! Communication was superb from the very first moment of booking.
We were beautifully taken care of throughout by Noelle. We stayed in the Forest rooms; great views, gorgeous beds, linen, bath products! The food was lovely. The whole ambience is just wonderful with magnificent views throughout, a free yoga session and a brilliant juice bar.
We completed the Finca experience which we did through the hotel, as a Christmas Day activity. Highly recommend if you are a little petrified of climbing up inside a tree and ziplining. A great beginner pick! For a Christmas stay this hotel could not have been better for our family. Highly recommend!!
- Semjon (10/5): Exceptional - The stay at Hotel Belmar was really something special. I stayed twice at this place during our road trip through Costa Rica. The pure nature of Monteverde, the architecture of the hotel, and also the atmosphere of the hotel make this really a special place and we had no other place in Costa Rica where we felt like at home as we did here.
I did a tour to the Madre Tierra farm with my daughter and a horseback ride. It was such a beautiful experience we will never forget. The breakfast and dinner was perfect and the restaurant is so beautiful with a remarkable view over the cloud forest. We will really miss this place as it sparked magic and means something to us.
- Ann-marie (10/5): This hotel is one of a kind - tucked away in the forest with a focus on sustainability. It resembled a Swiss chalet hote - The location (in the cloud forest), the staff who were all very welcoming and helpful and the food (farm to table) in the restaurant. Nothing comes to mind.
- Patricia (9/5): Luxurious location with beautiful views - Beautiful views peaceful location. Several options on site: beer garden, natural smoothies, nice restaurant, hot tub in the woods. Staff very attentive. Small complaint: no lactose free milk, oat milk, almond milk or soy milk available only corn milk. I bought my own lactose free milk at the grocery store and brought it.
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional - This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The hotel and surrounding grounds were stunning. The room was a perfect, with a fantastic view. The staff were knowledgable and friendly. The restaurant was fantastic. We did not want to leave!
- Claire (8/5): Monteverde experience in the torrential rains! - Beautiful buildings and surroundings. Very nice and friendly staff. Did not include breakfast or credit
- Edwin (9/5): A magical stay - if only it could have been longer! - Stunning location, lovely people, incredible views, delicious food, breakfast with monkeys! The food was expensive, especially as breakfast wasn't included in the room price.
- Emiliano (10/5): Stunning hotel! - Stunning hotel in the heart of the cloud forest
- Camelia (9/5): Ultimate treat! - Location was amazing with beautiful views of the estate. Staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Food was amazing, really loved the farm to table concept. The tour of the estates farm with Memo was a highlight, he was the BEST. Conditions of the road to get to the hotel was unfinished and a 4x4 vehicle is a must.
- Navraj (10/5): Fabulous hotel in a stunning, picturesque setting. - Excellent quality of breakfast in stunning location.
Service was impeccable.
Staff are very informative and helpful. There isn’t a gym but they offer complimentary yoga classses twice a day.
The public road up to the hotel is not well maintained at all.
- Hira (7/5): Great stay but some extras could have been included for gueats - The location was good, room was clean and they clean it again in the evening. The trails could be included for the hotel guests at least.
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - Best hotel of our trip to Costa Rica! We will absolutely be back!
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henricus (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Stunning Mountain Views on a gorgeous property with so many options of things to do during your stay. Jacuzzi in the room, juice bar, massages, yoga, beer garden, pond, waterfall hike on the property, farm tours, great restaurant, etc
- Gregor (10/5): Perfect luxuries and sustainable family-owned hotel with fantastic food - This is a perfect family-owned property with farm-to-table food and a great juice bar. All the staff are very knowledgeable and super friendly. You can visit the farm where most of the food comes from. There's also a microbrewery with great beer and tasty snacks. Everything is done with sustainability in mind. The Savia experiences are top-notch and worth every dollar. We cannot imagine a better experience and place to stay in the Cloud Forest. N/A
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hootan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Siarhei (10/5): We had an amazing time here! The staff was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The rooms were bea - Awesome Stay at a Great Hotel
- Umar (10/5): Amazing - Amazing property.
- Momobambo (10/5): Exceptional and memorable experience - We loved the entire experience at Hotel Belmar!
The warmth, kindness and hospitality of the people (special mention to Natalia, Daniel, and Esteban), the osmosis with nature, their true commitment to sustainability, all the personal touches throughout our stay.
Located high up in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica, the location is fantastic;
Not to mention the beauty of the hotel itself and surroundings.
We stayed in a room with incredible views of the misty cloud forest
Enjoyed delicious meals at Celajes with their farm-to-table concept and freshly grown ingredients
Last but certainly not least, we cannot speak highly enough of our Nightfall forest-immersion at SAVIA and agro-adventure + horse ride at Finca Madre Tierra!
Overall a magical and exceptional experience , muchisimas gracias! Pura Vida!
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gavin (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location and the design of the apartment was gorgoues. Wish there was a swimming pool
- Corina-ioana (10/5): Thoughtful and beautiful concept of sustainability in pristine Monteverde - I loved the concept of the hotel, it was just exquisite. I am deeply thankful for Natalia, the lovely concierge, who was just exceptionally kind and made it so that all our questions and all the activities were well arranged. I also want to thank Stephen, who took care that our room was in pristine cleanliness every time, and I also remember the lovely staff at the restaurant (Paola, Vio, Hazel, Axel, Carla) who were just a joy every time they helped for breakfast, dinner or cocktail classes. The hotel's facilities were incredible, the garden is something else to behold, the concept they have from farm (Finca Madre Tierra) to table is something deeply educational that I recommend people try, and the nightfall Savia experience with Daniel si just magical. And on top of that, there's oodles of fun to be had at the brewery, so cheers to Hotel Belmar for making it all so special for me. I have to admit that I was kind of put off by the long road from the hotel until the main road. It was not the length or the incline for me, but it was the *dogs* from the neighbouring properties which made me nervous every time, as they were not confined to their yards, and of course, do what dogs did and came barking each time I passed by. It's absolutely annoying to always have something to deter them when passing by. By no means do I hold this against the hotel, nor did it cast a shadow over my stay, but it's such a pity that this little annoyance spoils what could have been perfection. Nevertheless, this place is a truly special concept and should be experienced by everybody with all the senses.
- Amanda (10/5): Beautiful, authentic getaway in the forest - best part of our trip to Costa Rica - We loved our 2 day stay at Hotel Belmar and it was the highlight of our 10 day trip across Costa Rica. The experiences that Hotel Belmar offers were unique and authentic - such a nice, quiet way to experience the nature without feeling too touristy like many other experiences in CR. We did the ficus climb adventure and it completely exceeded our expectations. I wish we had more time to try all the other experiences that Hotel Belmar offers but we'll definitely be back. The breakfast was a la carte which we preferred to the buffet experience we have had at other hotels - the portions were generous and so beautifully decorated. The onsite restaurant and smoothie bar were amazing. We loved all the different parts of the property! The self-guided scenic trail was incredibly beautiful as was the pond. We also really enjoyed the complimentary yoga class. The room we stayed in was a bit outdated but it was a bit charming, like a cabin getaway in the forest.
- Minja (5/5): Overpriced - I liked the location and the rooms. I didn’t like the food at the restaurant, the service was poor. The order was forgotten , staff overacting and absolutely not trained. I find it really outrageous to put q tiny chocolate as an evening appreciation gift for 2 people sharing one room. On the 2nd night we got 1 bookmark to share between us. We are friends not a couple, plus we chose twin be, they should check before..
- Janna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place! The hotel grows their own food, brews their own beer, makes their own soap. We stayed in the penthouse suite and the view was amazing. We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was delicious. We also got a couples massage. They were able to book it the day before and it was very relaxing. Lovely place! I wish we were able to stay longer! A little expensive but experience was top notch so I think it was worth it.
- Nathalie (9/5): Superb - Spacious room.
- Nicola (9/5): Gorgeous hotel at great value for money! - The chalet style building is old but has been beautifully converted into a stylish, modern and comfortable hotel that feels very sensitive to the area. The staff were incredibly helpful - especially when it came to organising our tours - advising on the best ones to choose and when the best time to do each one was. The tours themselves were exceptional and very well priced in comparison to other ones we did while in Costa Rica. For example, the tours were almost price comparative with group tours we took, despite being private and featuring lovely perks such as snacks and drinks. It was easy to spend a lot of time in the hotel due to the way it’s designed to include several areas: a main restaurant, brewery overlooking the lake and a juice bar/cafe with a terrace overlooking the forest. There were also ample grounds and trails for hiking and bird watching. All this came at a very reasonable price per night, especially in comparison to other hotels in Costa Rica. That value for money element is one of the things that made the hotel so special. Not much! The only slight downside to the hotel was that the menu in the main restaurant - while delicious - was quite limited. This wasn’t an issue for us as we stayed for 3 nights only and on one of them we had an early dinner in the Brewery, which has a larger and more casual menu. But anyone staying a while might want to book a couple of restaurants in the town for dinner.
- Deb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (7/5): Great views and memorable stay - The food and views were great! We were in a premium room and we could watch the birds from our balcony which was so memorable and the rooms were big and spacious. The juice bar and beer bar were good!
The farm tour which is part of Belmar was amazing, especially if you have young children. The service wasn’t great. We waited 45 mins for our breakfast (which wasn’t included in the price) and then had to rush it to make a tour. The staff never seemed attentive to even give us a coffee. This was the same every day for 3 days.
The pond was not swimmable as it was green with algae and with no aircon there was no way to cool yourself down and it was very hot
- Michael (9/5): Wonderful hotel in a beautiful location - Amazing rooms and grounds, wonderful staff The restaurant was expensive
- Inna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabella (10/5): The perfect blend of breathtaking views, delicious dining, and warm hospitality - Absolutely breathtaking! Our stay at Hotel Belmar was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the stunning landscape of Monteverde, this hotel boasts the most picturesque location imaginable. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, offering a delightful taste of local cuisine. And oh, the view! Waking up to the breathtaking vistas from our terrace each morning was simply unforgettable. To top it all off, we even had the incredible experience of sharing breakfast with some curious monkeys. Hotel Belmar truly exceeded all expectations and made our time in Monteverde unforgettable. We can’t wait to return!
- Elizabeth (9/5): Cloud Forest View - We loved the setting especially breakfast on the balcony overlooking the cloud forest and lunch in the beer garden we're wonderful. The Savia Morning tour was outstanding to understand the cloud forest and see the forest canopy close up. The guide and the climbing safety team were first class and rappelling down was an experience. The room and bathroom were a little tired given the the cost of this hotel but compensated for by the wonderful setting and lovely staff team.
The corners of the beds are very sharp!
- Mark (10/5): Monteverde Joy - Has a great location that is close to the reserves. Fairly private and their brewery has excellent craft beer and good food. They offer a number of in-house experiences and we enjoyed the sunset tour with repelling. None
