Guest Reviews
- Lima (8/5): -
- Franz (7/5): -
- Rene (10/5): Totally enjoyable & fun - The amenities. The rooms were like a mini apartment. Very convenient There was nothing not to like. The owners made us feel like family
- Ohlson (8/5): - I loved the privacy and the fact it was almost like you had your own little house with a little fridge stove etc the property and the grounds were also beautiful. All around I really liked my stay I feel like they could use like some music not like excessively loud or anything but like some music in the pool area that fits the atmosphere like maybe Latin jazz or like reggae or something like that that would fit The vibes.
- Jay (10/5): - We had the best stay at Hidden Haven, it was exactly what we were hoping for and more!
We are adventurers, we love to explore, see as much as we can and take in all the experiences. We only prebooked our first stay on the island and decided we will wing it from there. We found Hidden Haven when we started to look for our second stay and it checked a lot of boxes. Perfect location, center to all the activities and exploring in the area. Nicely situated in the jungle. We traveled with another couple and the cabanas were great to give us each the privacy we needed and the pool and game room gave us a space to gather together and have some fun. Our boys absolutely loved that they could play pool and go for a swim on property. They were never bored and had so much fun! Breakfast was available upon request which was super convenient for the days we had a lot planned and it was situated by the pool with a beautiful jungle view.
We booked our stay March 8-12 but before our departure day came up we were already asking if we could extend our stay for the remaining of our trip! Our cabanas were already booked but they generously offered for us to stay in their big guest house which was much bigger then we needed but were so greatful that we were going to be able to stay. The best part about Hidden Haven, the hosts Dave and Elaine. They were amazing, always around, very accommodating and super friendly. If you had a concern or needed anything they were on top of it! Thank you so much for making our stay unBELIZEable!! Your hospitality is beyond appreciated. We would go back in a heartbeat 💚
Honorable mention to Thor, (their dog) is super friendly and loves to be pet! He helped make our visit enjoyable as well. He would greet us when we got back from our days adventures.
Jack's shack doesn't currently offer dining. Just ask around, locals will direct you to the best places to eat. Trey's barn and grill is amazing!
- patrick (7/5): - Peacefully located, the price is right and was a good location to venture out to see different attractions. I had a rental car which helped as this property is somewhat off the beatin path. (Hidden Haven) No hot water
- Bianca (9/5): Great stay, recommended. - We had a great stay at Hidden Haven and would return any time!
- Cindy (4/5): - Very outdated. Needs a huge clean up on the property The cook was filthy
- Nancy (10/5): - The cabana was well equipped, clean, the bed comfy, good pillows and nice. The swimming pool was clean and nice lounge area. I picked it for the pool table to practice while there. Nice Thor, doggie. the bar and food was cash which I did not have enough, and ATM in Roaring Creek, a good distance away, ate my card! Not the bar's fault but did add to stress a bit. Adds another trip to City @ 6 hours driving to retrieve my card once picked up and released by the head bank, protocols....blah blah... I understand bank charges are excessive, however it is the cost of doing business.
- Eric (10/5): The stay was great - The proprietors were very friendly and fun to interact with
- Nicoletta (8/5): - Nice cabana (Heliconia), with hot water, a little stove, a fridge and other basic necessities. The back balcony to the jungle was amazing. Also, the fresh food made by the chef, Jack, was very tasty and very good priced (cooked on the spot for both breakfast and dinner). The salted water pool was amazing and also eating dinner by the pool and meeting the other travelers was very nice. 1.Be mindful that you either need to rent a car to get there or call a taxi anytime you need to get to San Ignacio, as this property is off the road, about 15-20 min away from the city.
2. The bed was uncomfortable, not quite the advertised queen size and also the mattress was uneven. Very difficult to sleep, combined with the outside noises from the jungle, which was expected.
3. There's a musty smell in the cabin (this was Heliconia, although it was freshly renovated, we were told).
4. One of the owner dogs was coming up onto the back balcony, startled us a couple of times. And than it grabbed my wife's arm while we waited peacefully for our ride to the airport on the ground, in front of the cabin, we couldn't calm him down. It was scary as nobody was around to help.
- Corinna (9/5): A gem in the Cayo district - The view from the deck of our cabana was amazing! The salt water swimming pool was also great and clean. The road was a bit challenging to drive on to get there.
- Perriott (7/5): - Love the location of this hidden gem of a place. The bumpy pot holes road to get there.
- Taylor (10/5): Beautiful property and delicious food - Peaceful, quiet, beautiful cabanas, lovely pool and incredible food. Helpful and accommodating owners The pillows
- Yolanda (9/5): Convenient comfortable cabanas, near hwy with beautiful pool & snack shack for amazing food! - Laid back, relaxing place with newer beautiful pool, comfortable bed/room, + Jack's Snack Shack. British owners. Not far from the hwy. Also had game room with billards. Great food with a highly talented chef that prepared wings & fajitas from scratch! Would go back for the food! Wanted to try all the items 😋. Thanks Jack! Everything was satisfactory.
We did book on route so I believe we caught them off guard arriving after supper in the dark. There wasn't enough notice so towels were missing in the room, & some cleaner/ garbage was left in the washroom. No big deal. We used our towels & got replacements the next morning.
Jack kindly welcomed us & accommodated us by preparing delicious food for us after we arrived :) .
Lovely pool likely needed a shock to be crystal clear. But was nice regardless.
- Tim (10/5): Great spot to stay when exploring ATM and other Mayan areas - Great spot. Incredibly friendly and fact that owner's son is a trained chef, certainly made breakfast incredible! Plus the cabanas were very comfortable as was the sitting area around the pool. Sadly too chilly to take a dip.
- Sara- (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect for so many activities in the area. Jack the chef/ bartender was the perfect host. The food was amazing not a complaint!
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - The location and amenities at Hidden Haven are excellent, especially for the price. Even the nature trail on the property was a gem! The kids loved the pool and pool table too, and the food at Jack's Shack is awesome! Such a great deal and great experience!
- Stacy (9/5): Cool spot! Great staff! - Saltwater pool and grounds were awesome!
- Tracey (8/5): Great pool to cool off surrounded by a lovely garden - Secluded with gorgeous garden and pool area which was welcomed after spending the day out exploring Staff are friendly and very helpful with planning activities and onward travel. Great internet access and Jack's Shack provided many a cold beer. The cabins are not well insulated with 1 air conditioner to cool things down. However we stayed in the 2 bedroom cabin which would have been cooler without the dividing walls 1 room was much cooler than the other however there was also a fan (if we came again we would stay in the family room which looks more open).
- Rhonda (10/5): The definition of Hidden Haven - Scenery!!! Peace and quiet. These cabins were infused in the luscious forest, truly breathtaking.
- Mark (9/5): Truly a perfect haven for a family getaway! - Hidden Haven definitely lives up to its name! It is a hidden treasure perfect for a relaxing vacation (or relaxing after your adventures). We traveled with our two teenage sons, so having our own cabin with bunk beds was a great arrangement. There are only a few cabins on the property and it is within the jungle, so you can feel you are at your own retreat, especially with the view from the balcony or in the many hammocks around the property. It is centrally located, so you can easily drive to San Ignacio, but are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is also a short drive to cave tubing and the ATM cave (some tour companies will pick you up from the property). Our unit had a mini-kitchen, so we were able to make our own quick breakfast if we needed to get going before an early tour, but on relaxed days, Jack (the chef on site) was able to make us breakfast to order. After a long day of adventuring in the area, it was great to know we could just come back and relax and Jack would be able to make us a delicious dinner and even cook requested food for our children who are picky eaters, all for a very reasonable price. Our boys also loved playing pool in the game room, and we all enjoyed the swimming pool on a hot afternoon. It is an incredible deal and I would recommend it to anyone traveling to inland Belize! The cabin and furnishings are basic, but the location and amenities make it a fabulous place to stay.
- Rose (8/5): Very good -
- Elsa (10/5): It was beautiful property and had a very homey feel. -
- Cam (7/5): Dave and his son Jack were nice hosts and at your disposal if you need anything. Good value for price. - Swimming Pool was exceptional! Great place to relax and enjoy a beer or a snack or dinner from Jacks restaurant. Cabin we were in and the grounds in general needed a bit of upkeep. The pool area is great though and beds were comfy.
- Linra (9/5): Beautiful jungle property with basic cabins, and great outdoor spaces. - Very Beautiful property in a great jungle location for the activities we wanted to do ( ATM Cave Tour and Xunatunich).
Very nice, well maintained, jungle nature trails on the property to take a little stroll or go a little further.
Pool was refreshing and clean. Nice little inexpensive bar/restaurant onsite.
Room had a mini fridge, sink, coffee pot, and 2 burners with pots/pans/dishes.
Deck had two hammocks and four patio chairs, wonderful for enjoying the nature sounds and jungle view.
Beds were comfortable.
Shower was nice and hot ( or whatever temp you want).
Billiards table and Dart board The bedrooms in the 2 bedroom are super small ( queen beds takes up about 80% of the rooms) and dont have any storage except some hooks on the back on the door.
Wall dividing the 2 bedrooms does not go all the way to ceiling- gives you visual privacy, but no sound privacy.
Some maintenance issues, but owner addressed once notified.
- Zdenek (9/5): Great place to stay - - great and quiet location in the jungle
- welcoming and friendly owner
- tasty food (we even shared Christmas dinner together)
- perfect place to relax (swiming pool, biliard)
- Jody (10/5): Good value for our stay. - This place is a bit hidden but it’s a gem. We loved the cabin and it has everything we needed to make a home cook meal. The food at the restaurant here is yummy.
- Patrick (10/5): Perfect location, even better hospitality - Jack’s property Hidden Haven is the perfect place to experience life in the jungles of Belize. The cabanas are surrounded by lush jungle and wildlife. The cabanas are spacious and well equipped with comfy beds. My experience at Jack’s meeting his friends once was in a lifetime and Jack’s hospitality is unmatched. Couldn’t be happier with my stay at hidden haven Nada
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional - Food was amazing, room had exactly what we needed. Quiet and peaceful. Will be back to see Jack and his family again. Salt water pool was awesome and not too cold! Nothing, loved it.
- Heather (8/5): Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. It was really nice to be central to so many Mayan ruins. - It was a convenient location, the view was very nice, the cabana was comfortable. It was nice to have the option for food to be served there when we didn’t want to go out. The hot water in the shower was really great. It was nice to have most all of the dishes we needed. The mosquito net was too small for the bed, the blanket on the bed was small also-we were fighting over it every night. The bathroom faucet sprayed all over the place, and the pots and pans were not clean when we got them out. There were a few other things that needed fixed, but the owners did their best to help us resolve those. Also, there’s one section of the driveway that’s a little bit scary, but we did manage to get up it, even in our tiny rental car.
- Mario (9/5): Wonderful place in the jungle, full of bird life ! -
- Leotta (9/5): Superb -
- Rodgers (10/5): Not far off of the main road but you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, in a good way - great pool, nice cabins, they make us feel at home beautiful lots of birds we watched Parrots a pair of parrots in the tree at sunset while we were swimming at the pool. There are tons of beautiful birds everywhere.
- Richard (10/5): Very comfortable and enjoyable stay - Very quiet at night, enjoyed pool. Nothing - was great.
- Garnett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jerry (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and quiet. Great staff wonderful atmosphere
- Cameron (10/5): Excellent, I will definitely return next time I am in the area! - The food was superb, free range eggs from their own chickens, locally butchered beef, pork and chicken. Jack who runs Jack's Shack, is a gifted cook/chef. Even ordering a simple hamburger was a culinary delight, honestly the best burger I can remember! I'd highly recommend the "full British breakfast" which I ordered all three mornings. I can't think of anything negative. I had my doubts about the salt water swimming pool, but it wasn't salty at all and felt much fresher than any chlorinated pool. I LOVED SWIMMING IN IT!! Indeed I'm looking into installing a salt water pool on my own property.
The location of Hidden Haven is quite easy to find, a short walk from the highway, at mile 58. I very much enjoyed the bird life on the property, the solitude, nature trails and congenial hosts. Great place!
- Jeremy (10/5): Quiet and clean, a great hideaway in the middle of the rain forest. - The owners were great, the accommodations amazing.
Great breakfast, great coffee.
Great all around Nothing, it was perfect
- Philipp (9/5): Superb Base to Explore - Hidden Haven was really a haven for us - basic, clean accommodation with beautiful jungle vista - we saw a Tucan and Hummingbirds. Excellent value for money. Jack is also a good cook. As located right between San Ignacio and Belmopan, we used it as a base to explore the whole Cayo region and then come back to rest and relax.
- Darren (9/5): beautiful location, great staff and chalets were clean and spacious - Location and food were both awesome. It was outside belmopan by 15 mins which was perfect to get into the woods. Theirs a nice nature walk right outside your chalet doors that was a pleasent stroll with the gf. The pool was big and the staff are lovely.
- Tracy (10/5): it was a nice place, staff was friendly. We do apologize for leaving a frying pan unwashed -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (9/5): Superb - We were in cabina 2 and loved the setting, especially the long back balcony looking out over the hillside jungle. The hotel truly is a hidden haven, with nothing else around. It's very quiet/peaceful which was much appreciated after stays in Hopkins and cay caulker. Added bonuses include a salt water swimming pool, great food always freshly prepared and some wonderful jungle trails. We stayed 7 nights and enjoyed every day. I felt bad for most of the tourists who would book for 1 or 2 nights only and never got to appreciate all that hidden haven has to offer.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Isabelle (9/5): Superb - very friendly and super helpful owners, 100% recommended!
- Simone (9/5): Superb - Location is great, in the meddle of a jungle area but at the same time close to the street and very easy to find. Jack, the host, is very friendly and a good guy. I enjoyed my stay there. Amazing salty water pool in the property.
Highly recommended. Everything was perfect.
- Steve (9/5): Hidden Haven, great place ! - Very secluded, quite, lots of scenery, food was good, great staff, fun to be around. Pool was nice, good nature trails. The road leading to resort needs grading, the laneway, needs grading, there's a low spot that is muddy, needs some gravel added to it.
Need more dish towels. Near the sports room, the eve trough leaks on east side of building on you as you walk down the sidewalk. Bushes need trimming. It rains alot there naturally, these things should be addressed.
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tzul (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was more than we expected and love Everything about it
- Jari (9/5): Great place - Great place in the middle of nature. You are able to hear jungle voices to your bed. Hammocks and a swimming pool available. It's a bit difficult to reach without a car. Buses are going however quite near. Beds at dormitary are not too good.
- Nevi (10/5): Espectacular -
- Douglas (8/5): Very good -
- Ronnie (10/5): such a great experience will be back - beautiful property, rooms week clean and comfortable, host was friendly and helpful went above for us, food was amazing pool and cabana area are beautiful and well made perfect for soaking up nature nothing
