Guest Reviews
- Ravi (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - Friendly staff and great breakfast Shower was poor
- Almut (9/5): - Sehr gemütlich, sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter, ein super Frühstück
- Muskan (10/5): I really enjoy the stay there . Everything was perfect. - Fabulous
- Jeremy (10/5): Period property stay with a Great breakfast - Great location
- Paul (6/5): - Sympathiek personeel. Er mankeert nogal wat aan het gebouw, en het sanitair.
- Burnell (10/5): - Worth coming for the breakfast alone!
- W. Robert (9/5): -
- Denise (8/5): A good stay in a lovely location. - It is set in a beautiful location. The bed and room were comfortable.
The food was wonderful.
Staff were very friendly. The rooms are in need of some updating, though clean and comfortable. Work is underway on this.
- O'Rourke (1/5): Services weren’t provided. Staff very rude. - I wouldn’t know. The door was locked. The key to get in didn’t work and the memory of staff working the night wouldn’t answer the phone. The key given to me didn’t open the main door so couldn’t get in to the property after the wedding I attended. The night staff didn’t answer the phone so I had to get an inner back to Bristol. I phoned to get a refund and I have been promised call backs from the owners which I haven’t had and when I had a call from a receptionist enquiring about the key I had him tell me I was “petty” and I needed to “fucking grow up” as he hung up the phone.
- Rosemary (8/5): Despite major reservations I was upgraded to a beautiful room. The staff were so kind and helpful l -
- Marie (10/5): Excellent throughout. Got good & beers. Friendly staff, stunning location - Beautiful area. Lovely room. Large bathroom. Dog friendly. Gorgeous garden roast dinner 6 veg. Great location for our on route from Devon to Yorkshire and our stop at Cirencester. Very friendly staff. Easy book in/ out. Breakfast was high quality and plenty of it. Nice touch with bottled waters. Not enough tea bags and milk. Could have done with 4 milks not 2.
- Georgie (7/5): Perfect stay for Badminton Horse Trials! Great outdoor seating area! - The staff were friendly and pleasant, the rooms were dated and the bathrooms definitely could do with attention, but we did notice that there were renovations taking place.
Hopefully if we were to return again we would get the benefit of these renovations. Breakfast was cold on 2 occasions, out of an 3 night stay, although a great choice on the menu. I realise we were a larger party of 8 so possibly some plates were left whilst the others were being dished up.
- scott (6/5): Very outdated - Location, and the lady bringing out our breakfast was very nice and accommodating. Room 24 was very tatty, never even had a shower screen or curtain
Just a bath
Very outdated.
Our room was actually in an outhouse 3 story flat at the back of the hotel.
- Kate (4/5): - The room was nice however the walls were thin and I could hear the bathroom fan and the person snoring next door! The breakfast was out of everything and they served me something inedible I had to leave. When I had dinner in the evening the table wasn’t cleaned and the service was poor.
- Sebastian (10/5): - Love the historical inn, the large comfy room with great view, the very friendly staff, very dog friendly, great food at a nice price and a great selection of ales. Definitely will come again. School run perents seem to have become cheeky by using the inns carpark at school pick up and drop off times. Not a problem as plenty of space alone the road so could move car to carpark after they have gone but probably best to time arrival before or after school pick up time.
- Sam (10/5): -
- Garry (8/5): A great location, just a little dated. - Charming place, very helpful staff. Found the bed very soft and uncomfortable, also the shower was low in pressure.
- Tony (9/5): -
- Irene (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect for our 1 night stay. - Great stay, beautiful location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. We slept well and had a good breakfast.
- keith (10/5): Very enjoyable, great location, the staff especially friendly and welcoming. We are booking again. - A good full English breakfast was enjoyed - all good
The Room was in the cottages annex and was perfect for the two of us. Very comfortable bed, spacious suite and exactly what we had requested. Especially as we wanted to be near the garden, again all good.
Dinner was as expected, very good 'higher end pub food' and good value.
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. For us there was nothing we felt we did not like:)
- Kerry (8/5): - The room, location, parking - morning staff were fab. Room was very clean & large but dated. Dining room was bright and airy, lots of choice for breakfast & lovely freshly cooked. Lovely staff AM. The evening staff ( young but inexperienced) were slow, unsure - didn't ask about allergies, waited 10 mins for wine - served red wine in a cooler. We have a daughter who works part time in a pub & she would have been mortified at their practice - no idea & unfortunately the only staff on shift. Pub undergoing refurb on ground floor,so lots of noise & hazards. Generally, staff were helpful - shower head was old, cistern took forever to fill so very noisy. Windows old so road outside busy & noisy. But we live in the countryside.
- Giovanni (5/5): -
- Robert (7/5): Déçu - Charme du bâtiment -Emplacement sur un carrefour : bruyant -Pas d’ampoules dans les lampes de chevet
-Seulement un filet d’eau. Pas de pression
Bruyant.
-Musique et discutions tardive sous nos fenêtres
-Dîner: Attente longue, personnel charmant mais incompétent
-Petit déjeuner plus que léger. Buffet presque vide
-La TV ne marchait pas
- Helen (5/5): This was supposed to be a treat. The lovely weather and looking forward to breakfast took the edge off our general disap - Lovely location, good parking, great breakfast, lots of hot water, nice toiletries & thick towels. Garden annexe room was very noisy; we heard every sound from the accommodation above. Curtains were flimsy and mildewed. More attention needs to be paid to cleaning. Inexperienced waiting staff dealing alone with dinner service.
- Ron (9/5): First class short break in the Cotswolds. - Super historic building in the Cotswolds, very comfortable with super helpful staff. The breakfasts were exceptional a hotel we will return to. Nothing to report.
- Russell (10/5): Great experience that I can only hope will repeat. - Great experience in a part of the country we never would have ended up on purpose. Great food, great pub, friendly locals and friendly staff. Nothing
- Robin (8/5): Evening meal was good, breakfast was poor, not enough staff. - Nice old building The decor was mediocre & looked tired
- Laurence (8/5): Enjoyed. Will come again - Friendly service, good breakfast, warm room, clean problem with toilet flush in morning
- Anne (10/5): -
- Katy (10/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): Great place for an overnight stay. - Lovely location, dinner was great and the views from the dining room were fantastic.
Breakfast was great and really set us up for the day.
Room was really nice, lots of room and big bed.
Really friendly staff. Parking is a bit hit and miss - there are limited spaces for cars outside the inn.
- jane (10/5): Great place to stay - We went for one of the larger rooms which was really lovely. We had a meal in the restaurant and a few drinks and we had a really lovely night. Id definitely recommend as new owners the hotel has great potential We found our breakfast wasnt the warmest but was great quality and choice
- Tony (8/5): Lovely hosts, nice location and fantastic breakfast. - Lovely location overlooking the countryside. Nice outdoor seating area. When I booked hadn’t realised there was a two tier system of rooms. Placed in the outdoor annex on the top floor with two narrow staircases. Room fine but basic although no shower screen or curtain or shower head holder hence impossible not to spray the bathroom floor.
- Rod (7/5): -
- Pete (9/5): - Friendly staff, great value for money, lovely location for fabulous walks.
- Christina Solberg (10/5): Lovely stay in the Cotswolds - Location, onsite pub and staff
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Heidi (8/5): -
- Amandeep (6/5): - Lovely location with wonderful views! Room was equipped with basic essentials and breakfast was superb! Staff were not always around at the reception desk, so were not able to answer questions. Asked for a hairdryer and never got one. When checking in, we were not given any information or details on our stay and were just handed over the key.
- VALENTINA (10/5): -
- Salim (10/5): Value for money plus it had breakfast included. - Everything All was good
- Carr (10/5): 10/10 - Perfect place to stay with our fur baby for the night, lovely room, great friendly staff and a lovely breakfast 😀
- Barry (9/5): Only one night but will stay again - Lovely setting, comfortable quiet room, amazing breakfast
- Suzanne (8/5): -
- Jane (5/5): - No lift, noisy and a bit dated
- Meredith (9/5): - Lovely location, great breakfast, good price. En suite bathroom was quite compact, but fine.
- LAD (8/5): great staff, decent hotel, beautiful area. - beautiful location in Amberley a short distance from Stroud, great staff really friendly and helpful especially Danny and Zane, couldn't fault them, the hotel itself is a bit dated here and there but was very clean, warm and comfy and breakfast was good too. the drive up the hill.
- serensapphire (8/5): -
- Dot (8/5): Lovely area & nice hotel to stay overnight in ! - Lovely old hotel , good parking over the road & cheerful staff . We ate at night in the bar & enjoyed most of our meal …the fish starter was tasty & well presented . Hubby enjoyed his fish & chips but my beef lasagne was a bit dry 🥲However the breakfast was really lovely & set us up for the day 😀 Enjoyed staying in one of the cottage rooms . Overall a nice stay but should have chosen a different main course .
- Lorraine (9/5): -
- Louise (4/5): -
- Irene (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Great stay for Cheltenham races - Nice quiet area Can’t get Taxi but that’s not the hotel fault
- Susie (7/5): Very comfortable stay. We enjoyed it and would stay again. - Breakfast very good. Also ate in pub twice and the food (and beer) was also very good.
All staff were very friendly.
Very easy to get an Uber into Stroud and back again. Room provided with shower gel and shampoo -but we had no soap for 1st day. Room wasn't serviced. However as soon as we mentioned this we were immediately provided with more toiletries including soap and towels by very friendly member of staff.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Mark (5/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Marcin (9/5): -
- Clover (5/5): Was lovely but needs improvement. - Staff were lovely, location is very pretty. Plenty of parking. Breakfast good and dinner options available also good. Heater in room. The water pressure in the bathroom was awful and only had tepid temperature so basically having cold showers. The taps on the sink were bad and definitely need replacing. The kettle was very dirty and in general things were very worn and dirty looking in the room we got.
- Walton (9/5): What a lovely place to stay, wonderful view and excellent meals - Very comfortable - initial problem with hot water solved at once, thereafter excellent
- Phil (7/5): - We liked the location, the excellent food and the friendly staff Car parking can be a bit tight. Room location not very private, looking out onto the beer garden and people walking by the window and stopping to look in??? . Unable to draw room curtains properly as not enough curtain hook fitted. No heating or hot water for the first night was a let down. And room can be bit noisy due to other guests coming through the main entrance door.
- Jo (6/5): Go. It’s in a brilliant location. The breakfasts are amazing the staff are lovely - The staff. The room smelled of wet dog .
- Robin (8/5): Beautiful Inn well positioned in Amberley, with excellent accomodation and breakfast. - Charming place to stay - has a real history of its own. Very comfortable room and excellent breakfast, cooked for me and not off a buffet Nothing to dislike
- thomas (10/5): Brilliant as always. - Second time we’ve stayed at the amberly and we will defiantly stay again in the future it’s a Nice cosy inn, ideal for the dog as the common is right on the door step ideal for early morning walks with nobody about. Nothing it was really good
- Stewart (8/5): Suzanne and ophelias stay - Beautiful location and lovely old building with fantastic views and the bullion windows were gorgeous ,the breakfast was very nice and freshly cooked, the room was homely and inkeeping with the building The very steep stairs to the room.s but understand cant be changed due to age of property but may be if room can create a down stairs room for people with disabilities
- Caroline (7/5): Lovely old inn - Lovely friendly inn in beautiful surroundings Getting a bit tired, needs a bit of a spruce up
- Michael (5/5): Room was adequate but not attractive, basin hot tap only dribbled and was useless, towel rail did no - Plenty of choice and reasonable service Coffee not good and poor lighting in room
- James (7/5): - Beautiful location and building. Friendly staff. Comfy bed and cozy decoration. For the price a good place to stay Long wait on food and was barely warm
Sockets next to bed didn't work
Deadbolt on room door not working
- Rod (7/5): We enjoyed it - Food was really excellent The facilities needed a bit of a refresh
- Tejal (6/5): Comfortable and warm room, clean but basic room amenities, dinner service variable - friendly staff, warm bedroom, excellent location, comfortable bed, easy parking Bathroom facilities need updating (toilet not easy to flush; water flow variable from taps, but shower ok)
Dinner service needed better organisation, I was asked to wait for a table by one member of staff, and another let a couple who had walked in sit down before me. If I hadnt asked about my table, I dont know if staff would have come to get me. Dinner took 1 hr to arrive even after I ordered. I could see other guests equally hungry and waiting as long, if not longer. Next morning and only when I commented about the late running of dinner, I was told a new chef had started that day, but there was no communication from the waiting staff that dinner was running late.
- Sarah (8/5): -
- sarah (5/5): Great location but shockingly overpriced. - There was a bath which I like.
There was a kettle in the room.
It is dog friendly - though actually we left our dog behind.
Easy parking. The breakfast was disappointing, I am not sure the sausages were cooked. One of the bedside lamps was broken - they did replace it, but I had to ask. The coffee was awful. Dishwater.
- Lucinda (8/5): - Beautiful location
- Matthew (6/5): Nice place and comfortable but just looking a bit tired. - The location of the property is great and it has a lot of character, which it’s an amazing building. The room is clean, comfortable and the bed was very comfortable. It’s tired and looking a little run down.
- simon (10/5): Perfect place. Lovely people. - The staff at The Amberley Inn couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, with special mention for Danny the manager. What a nice man.
The Garden Suite was lovely. perfect for my wife and I and our two Dachshunds (they give it several hundred stars).
We've already booked a return visit!
- Sue (10/5): Absolutely lovely will return - Beautiful location lovely period building. Staff Super friendly nothing was too much trouble
- Clare (8/5): Fabulous location, warm welcome and comfortable stay! - Excellent choice The water pressure on the shower wasn’t the best, but I was able to shower ok.
- Martin (10/5): Vey welcoming , lovely setting, friendly staff. - Breakfast nice and filling, room very comfy, dinner excellent. All of it
- Philip (5/5): - Dinner and breakfast were good. The room, 23, was clean but rather dull.
- John (9/5): Great - The food and friendly staff made for a memorable stay.
- Alina (9/5): Authentic inn, liked the location and food - Dog friendly dining room , nice breakfast One of rooms was very noisy from people upstairs- understandable as it's a cottage so floors squeecks - from 7 am was tricky to sleep. Still great a hotel-perhaps better to stay in the main block or higher floor with nobody above
- David (10/5): -
- Allison (8/5): We had a lovely, break which we enjoyed immensely. All the staff were helpful and cheery. So nice to be welcomed by the - Loved the old world style of the main building.
The suite we had was warm and comfortable
Excellent bedding The curtain track in room 20 needs to be replaced.
- Jane (10/5): Unexpectedly fun! - The staff were amazing. We understand this Inn -which was neglected for some years- is under new management, and the staff are working super hard to put things right. Every member of staff was unfailingly pleasant, efficient and welcoming. The unexpected twist was to be invited to the New Year’s Eve party with mostly local people. It was great fun! The room was super warm and comfortable; the breakfast plentiful and unhurried; the views from the property stunning. The stairways/ corridors in The Cottage need some attention: fresh paint; better lighting etc. Something for guests with dogs is necessary too: leaving dogs in rooms for hours on end is both cruel and upsetting. It’s neglect of a frightened and distressed dog; and unfair for other guests who have to listen to the endless whining.
- Karen (5/5): -
- Philip (8/5): -
- james (8/5): - Clean comfortable very tasty food great value!
Friendly staff Room very small, charged for desserts we didn’t eat! Room wasn’t cleaned on second day
- Colin (8/5): Good stay with amazing breakfast in a great location at a reasonable price. - Breakfast was amazing and the staff couldn’t have been any more helpful.
There was a good selection of real ales in the bar.
We ate in restaurant on two occasions. The first meal was lovely and second one very average. We were in room 7. Which didn’t have any radiators so was cold. Also no heated towel rail so damp towels. Also shower attachment on the bath taps and low water pressure. Unless you ask for housekeeping you only get changed every two days. So you have to make your own bed!
- Nicola (8/5): Great oasis of calm after a hectic year....just what I needed - Breakfast good, with a great bonus sausage for my dogs. Location stunning with beautiful Cotswold views and great dogwalking from the front door. Staff really helpful. Bed wasnt made after first night, bit surprised
- Ian (10/5): Superb - Friendliness of staff - location - food - accommodation Nothing
- John (6/5): Lovely building and staff, but sadly not good value at £152. - Love the Amberly Inn and stayed here many times in the main building. Great staff and under new management/ owners. Lots of character and warm cozy feeling, and great location. Food to a high standard and plenty of parking. Room lovely and warm, but… This time we were put in the cottage. Rather rundown and disappointing room. Signs of a leak on the ceiling. Bed was small double for us and mattress uncomfortable. Divan base did not have a cover and the two halves were not connected so a gap developed during the night. For £152 we were expecting a higher standard and overall this did not seem good value and detracted from our overall all enjoyment of the stay. Sadly we would not stay again at this price and quality of room. That said the inn is under new management and we wish them well, and hope that they will benefit from this feedback.
- Barry (10/5): Comfortable stay with great food and friendly/helpful staff. - We are a family of 7 and three generations and stayed for a break over Christmas. We all very much enjoyed ourselves praising the comfort of the beds, helpfulness of staff and great food. Breakfasts are excellent with super choice, menu for evening meals was varied and tasty and the Christmas lunch was delicious, plentiful and offered great choices. The log fires were a good bonus.
- Rahul (4/5): -
- Alice (8/5): Stay near Stroud! - The location. Upgraded to a garden suite which was spacious and woukd be fab in the summer. Pretty walls. Staff very helpful.
- Mike (9/5): - Nice location, food and drink was good and the room was really good
