Guest Reviews
- Carolyn (10/5): -
- Julie (7/5): Really - Really nice but with a few small tweaks could be perfect The entrance the mat was dirty and the wall grubby and it smells a bit funny
The shower door at the bottom was grubby
The towels smell a bit odd
Would be better with plain bedding
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): - Such a little patch of heaven & the dog loved the wildlife/farm animals & local walks too. Everything was great, even a nice family living elsewhere in the grounds were very nice to speak to. Its a large place so we didnt see them until we checked out.
Very private, very secure & would definitely stay again N/A
- Zaara (4/5): Please try not to stay in old-look less facilitated far-off place. - Low price
Parking
Ground floor level Bad smell from comforters
Far from main sightseeing, long drive- poor location
Very cold cottage, heating not working
Old-looking utensils
Worn out features in cottage everywhere
Non refundable complete fee
- Martin (7/5): Net our expectations for one night stay - Large rooms Noisy rodents
- imi (9/5): - it was nice and quiet
the bed was so comfortable
equipped with everything you need it was a little bit cold at times but mostly due to the weather
- Peter (8/5): - Nice clean roomy accommodation
- Pip (10/5): - Peaceful stay in the “Ferns”. Garden nice and secure for our dog. Comfortable place for a family stay.
- Jones (10/5): -
- Adriana (10/5): Perfect stay in Dorset - The location was perfect…. Lovely village, quiet and peaceful
The converted stable was so spacious….lovely garden for our 2 Labradors Nothing
- Sandra (9/5): 30 to 31st March - Clean, well equipped and very comfortable accommodation.
Easy accessibility and clear instructions on how to enter the property. All good, no negatives to report.
- David (10/5): Great location and real value for money - The property was beautiful with a lovely private garden area and ample space with lots of facilities..
The check-in was very smooth and it was great value for money The mattress in the main bedroom was a bit soft and tired, but did the job.
Some of the cupboard doors were a bit loose but didn't cause any issues to us
- Nicky (8/5): - Lovely comfortable place with everything needed was exceptionally clean and quiet would definitely book and stay again Garden was not secure dogs could get out onto the road
- Sarah (10/5): - Lovely quiet self-contained cottage/annex. Very secluded, peaceful and comfortable with beautiful countryside views The cottage itself was gorgeous. My only thing is that even with satnav it was tricky to find. We must have driven past it several times so would possibly make the sign a bit bigger?
Also, maybe a slightly later check out? 12 maybe? We would definitely stay here again
- Stephanie (10/5): - I stayed at Hilltop Farm because I have to travel for work in the area - it's a perfect cozy home away from home. Warm, clean and comfortable with good clear communication from the hosts.
- John (6/5): An honest opinion - Very comfortable bed, good bathroom and shower, actual accommodation well laid out Heating left a lot to be desired, cold weather and no reliable way to increase the heat. The 'fire' in the living area totally inadequate, just created a draught. Lack of cutlery in the drawer, later found in the dishwasher which smelt so did not use. The fold out dining table was broken on arrival. These three things spoilt our stay in what could have been an enjoyable stay.
- Steve (10/5): Great price and facilities - The location, the bed and the facilities were all lovely. No knives in the cutlery drawer. Didn't spoil my stay however!
- Dec (10/5): - I loved the bed, super comfortable. The carpet should be softer.
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Mildred Beau Imelda Marilyn (10/5): - The Ferns was so cosy and clean. Was so relaxing and nice quiet location
- Claire (10/5): - The whole cottage was perfect. Very comfy and a lovely place to unwind. We thoroughly enjoyed a weekend away and would recommend. That our break there wasn't longer
- Natalia (10/5): Perfect place - We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. The large, spacious kitchen was great, and having three bathrooms available was very convenient. The place was perfectly equipped, and the owner even provided essential toiletries like shower gel and shampoo (thank you for that!). Everything was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay here again.
- Pradeep (10/5): Amazing stay in Sturminster, Dorset - Comfortable little cottage like stay. Clean and well equipped. Temperature in the room was preset but wasn't too cold or too hot . Beautiful scenic surroundings Not a single thing I disliked.
- Danielle (10/5): Recommended - The apartment was clean tidy and warm. Lovely location. It was great. I had a lovely stay.
- Jones (8/5): Lovely. - Perfectly adequate and well appointed self contained accommodation.
Everything worked For me the radiators could have been on for longer due to my needing to dry work clothes.
But the washing machine worked perfectly and was much better than the one I have at home.
I didnt like to use the tumble drier as they are too expensive even if I wasnt the one paying for the electricity.
- Kimberley (10/5): Nice relaxing stay away for the night - It had everything I needed. Bed was extremely comfortable Nothing
- Maggie (9/5): Great - Peaceful every thing we needed
- Lesley (7/5): One night was fine - It was very good for our one night stay, had everything we needed including outdoor space for our dog It was a little tired and unfortunately had a strong damp smell coming from the bathroom, probably from the shower. The bed was fabulous and the owner had thoughtfully provided a good selection books and games. It needs a do over but for one night it was perfectly fine, however the cleaning charge was far too high
- Jan (9/5): Highly recommended. Great place for short stays. We hope to return in the future! -
- Sophie (1/5): Disappointing and stressful - avoid! - We requested an early check in and this request was ignored. I was not sent the check-in details and had to chase for these myself. We arrived at the property 40 minutes after the check in time to find the last guest's dirty bed linen and towels on the floor. The place had not been cleaned since they left. We rang the manager and she did not apologise, telling us that it was a very stressful situation for her as she lived an hour away from the property and was a single mother. She told us we would have to leave again and that the property would be ready for us from 6pm, three hours after the published check in time. We did as she asked. When we returned, the beds were made but the house was clearly still very dirty as it was not possible to clean a house of that size in 2 hours. The freezer and shower were broken. The beds are very uncomfortable. There were no desert spoons in the house, only tea spoons and soup spoons. It seems that no one is keeping an eye on this place. In my view, it should not be let out. I asked for a refund, but this has been denied and the manager has not replied to my messages. I am currently following this up through Booking. Almost everything!
- Trevor (10/5): -
- Katie (1/5): Very poor - Nothing as we couldn’t enjoy it at all in the freezing cold. Sadly we had a very bad experience at this house seeing in the New Year. We arrived late at 11pm and found a freezing house with no heating and no hot water. We found a faulty boiler. We spent the night cold trying to sleep in our clothes and hats. We contacted the owners in the morning and received no apology or support. We felt a refund was in order but even with the support of booking. com the owners have not supported this. A really horrible experience and not what you should expect for £170! If you go to stay here definitely arrive early to check the heating is working, something I don’t think we should expect to do. This has caused me a lot of stress since, a sad start to 2026.
- Richard (10/5): Lovely quiet self contained holiday let in a good location - Lovely little place everything needed for a self contained holiday comfy bed and nice bathroom area quite location spar shop just down the road clean and warm Needed some lights outside
- Anna Nicholson (8/5): It was okay apart from the small mishaps of the shower and heating. - Location is good. Showers didn’t work in our room. Heating didn’t come on the morning we left and it was a very cold morning. As heating didn’t come on when we got up that morning, there was no hot water. It would have been better if the weather wasn’t that cold and would not have an impact when the heating didn’t come on. Not having hot water to wash in the morning wasn’t ideal.
- Paula (8/5): -
- ANTHONY (8/5): - The apartment was warm, with all the necessary equipment. The outside light wasn't working, which is a health and safety problem, it's just as well we took a torch. The Bedroom carpet was dirty. Under sofa bed in the lounge it was unbelievably filthy. A note was left for the cleaners. Although the rest of the property was clean and well equipped. The hoover was blocked, of which we rectified and left the property spotless, apart from under the sofa bed, as we felt if left, it might enlighten the cleaners that it also needs to be cleaned. We enjoyed our cosy stay. Thankyou.
- K (7/5): -
- Christine (10/5): I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and only wished that I was staying longer. Unfortunately because of the distance I would li - Everything. A super home from home experience, everything that I never expected and usually pack for such stays was available up to hand wash in the bathroom.
The kitchen was well stocked with just about everything and the bedroom was massive just as described. I can go and on but put simply it is the best place I have ever been to. Well done hosts!! Nothing
- Stacey (7/5): Peaceful quiet - Light up shelves, The toilet leaked from the back.
- DMV Groundworks (10/5): Would recommend and use again! - Friendly welcome, nothing was no trouble. Would use again Nothing!
- Deborah (10/5): Perfect relax and so dog friendly - Surprise spa bath, super clean, well stocked with tea and coffee, arrived late but Kerry v helpful. Amazing garden space will book again Nothing
- Catherine (8/5): - Clean comfortable warm good value
- Frazer (10/5): -
- Eyre (9/5): -
- gough (10/5): - The quiet other things military aircraft going over. (Which i enjoyed) No security light worked outside other than in the car park. Outside cottage was really slippery in morning during to moss growing on bricks and concrete other ths that can't wait to stay again. X
- Deb (10/5): Peaceful retreat - Super comfy bed. Full size kitchen, so peaceful
- Thomas (10/5): Great stay, wish it was longer - Great house, lots of space, very comfortable.
- Nigel (8/5): -
- Paula (9/5): - Welcoming, clean, cosy and homely conversion. All on one level which was ideal for my elderly parents. Well laid out and decorated. Comfortable beds and peaceful location with easy parking. Already rebooked and looking forward to their stay at Christmas!! Could do with a little TLC, nothing major, just some bulbs out and the hob extractor filter was hanging down. Also the little heater in the living room didn't blow hot air. Minor things really which would be easy to put right.
- Ivan (5/5): Do not recommend - The property was acceptable, nice comfortable beds Check in at 15pm and check out at 10 am.
On the morning the roads and access to the property was closed because of Weymouth Ironman.
The owner charged us one more night for couple of ours late check out. Highly disappointed
- Tuck Seng (9/5): A nice place from town - two bedrooms spacious for 4 persons NIL
- Chris (9/5): Total value - Chilled with two dogs. Space at rear for dogs.
- Wendy (9/5): Good value - Top quality cooking facility
Bed was comfy Would have liked some wine glasses
- Emily (8/5): Easy to find, great for a weekend away! - Really spacious airy place, garden is a great size!
Loved the kitchen!! The mattresses were super uncomfortable! Things like coffee/tea/sugar was provided but no salt/pepper or toiletries which would typically be provided in an air BnB
- Luke daniel (10/5): - Great location and lovely quiet property
- Beulah (4/5): Dirty & smelly, needs a deep clean - Bed was comfortable, good location Other than location and comfortable bed, everything else was disappointingly unpleasant. Upon entering the property we were overwhelmed with an intense damp smell, lingering in every room. Despite opening windows, the smell remained, by the second day my clothes smelt.
Cleanliness was poor, pubic hairs around the bathroom and stained carpets.
It was also a shame to not have any body wash in the shower.
Unfortunately will not be returning.
- Byron (6/5): Value for money. - Location. Dog loved walking the fields. Large hedge over lodge banging on roof at night.
- Heather (8/5): Comfortable accommodation. - The accommodation was comfortable and had good facilities. Everything was provided to make our stay enjoyable. The kingsize bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. There was a very good shower. The accommodation was in a good location, being a few minutes from the Green Man pub. Sturminster Newton is a short distance away by car. As others have said, the bedroom was a bit dark as it backs onto a field and there are some brambles behind the building. The garden was a disappointment, being uneven and covered in artificial grass., There is also a high fence so you can't admire the views from the garden.
- Tim (9/5): -
- Vince (9/5): -
- Janet (10/5): - Great location for quiet retreat. Spacious cottage with everything you need and more!! Tranquil and relaxing
- Denise (10/5): - A very well equipped cottage. Spacious living space and 3 bathrooms for 4 people.
- Josie (8/5): needs to be checked on a regular basis The on the end bedroom mattress it wasn't a mattress just on the floor on the - Very spacious, it was all one level for some who is disabled
- Thomas (7/5): Not great didn’t believe I was charged £280 for 3 nights and it wasn’t cleaned properly and the pictures on website are - That it was out the way nice and private It wasn’t cleaned properly if you look behind the 2 single beds headboard that are pulled together you will see some rubbish and dust that has been there for a while a few cobwebs and couldn’t open the small window in the room because it was full of brambles and branches all insects were coming in . Not great
- Nichols (3/5): -
- Paul (10/5): A nice and tidy little cottage good enough for a family with young children. - The cottage is in a quite area and the little garden was a lovely touch. My som really like it. The fact that the same farm share her postcode with other farms around. I knocked to other doors and called Kerry to find out I just passed the location. 😂
- Jacqui (8/5): - Lovely location, enclosed garden for dog, comfy large bed, generally good overall
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (4/5): Disappointing - A nice location and very quiet. The property was well equipped There are two properties. We stayed in Ferns which needs a deep clean is dark and smells. Photos were misleading as it seems as though the 2 properties were lumped together. I can only assume that the other property is lots better. The windows in Ferns are quite small which makes it so dark. The 'summer house' should be closed or properly cleaned and furnished. I was not expecting animal faeces on the artificial lawn.
- Mike (9/5): Great self-contained (dog friendly) lodge. Would recommend. - Hilltop Farm - lovely spot.
Three of us (+2 dogs) had a great stay.
The Ferns is a one bedroom lodge with sofa bed in kitchen or trundle bed under main bed.
There is an enclosed small yard that we perfect for our 2 terriers and there are some good farm lanes immediately behind the property for a longer walk.
The lodge was really well kitted out with fans, TV's, DVD fridge, freezer etc
Good shower, plenty of storage space and room. There was nothing bad at all. The satnav was about 200 yds out on the postcode, but it was easy to find.
Its quite remote, but that was good for us.
The parking is shared with the other lodge there, but it was no big deal.
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional - Large property and very clean. Nothing
- Nita (9/5): Excellent location at Hilltop Farm. - The location was ideal, very quiet. The accommodation was an ideal size for us, not too big. The bed was also very comfortable. We loved the private garden that we had and sat outside in the evening to have dinner. There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
- Emmanuel (6/5): We had a good stay. - The location was good for where we had to go. Having bathing soap in the bathroom would have been good. I had to clean the microwave oven before use, it had food spill all over the turn table.
- Dawn (9/5): Privacy and secluded - A beautifully secluded spot even though there is other accommodation you have your perfect spot. Nothing to complain about
- Florina (6/5): Ok-ish for 1 night - Spacious, quiet, has 3 bathrooms which we appreciated. Bed was comfy and we appreciatted there were 2 pillows, 1 soft and 1 firmer. Ok-ish for one night. However we will not return as it wasnt that clean, hair in the shower, cobwebs, spiders on the walls, dead mosquito on tv, 3 moths in the small bedroom and 1 was under the duvet. Its not as bright as shown in the pictures. The garden is neglected. It could be a nice place if cleaner.
- Edwin (1/5): Bad - The location was ok It was very dirty and not at all like the pictures on the site. We could not stay in the bed full of hair etc. looks like it has not been cleaned for a long time. Also the photos on the site appear to be from a different property
- Linda (7/5): Good - Most of it...Had window and door open as so hot but quite a few flies alot came in Wright, iron gate is very hard to open. Need oiling. Very heavy
- Anne (5/5): Not worth the money, needs good deep clean. - The bed Dirty cups not washed properly, stepped inside property and faced with carpet not been hoovered, bathroom sink gritty taps mucky. Dirty around wardrobe. Looked at previous reviews and found numerous visitors had commented on chipped cup which was still there. Found dirty pans in cupboard including greasy frying pan. The whole place needs a deep clean, I would suggest a new cleaner is found. When was the owner last there. Then on way home find e mail telling to strip beds, we didn't pay £40 for cleaning that was not up to standard and didn't expect for that money paid to strip the beds which hadn't even been buttoned up properly. Not somewhere I would be recommending.
- Natalie (8/5): Very good -
- Kenneth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lategan (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (8/5): Very good - The location was deep in the heart of the Dorset countryside away from people and commercialism. It was so quiet it was lovely and to see the cows coming in for milking too was a lovely sight. We felt the accommodation could've been cleaner that it described on website offering a bottle of wine but nothing was left.
The outside courtyard and buildings looked shabby the garden furniture was very shabby too one chair had a leg broken.
We chose the accommodation to take our dog with us but there wasn't any bridlepaths to walk her only a muddy track !!Also there was artificial grass in garden so not good for dogs.Abig rat ran out in front of us where the top gate was.
- Jules (5/5): Was nice surroundings and we were left alone and privacy was well respected - It was quiet and secluded It was fully equipped
- Dave (8/5): Very good - Bed comfortable hot water instant ! Tea bags supplied.. Hob was hit and miss ...ceramic...
Not for us as not our normal ..frustrating time wise. Pushing this button then that unsure if working.....Dishwasher but for 2 people ..no tea towels but kitchen roll supplied.
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant -
- Steven (4/5): Disappointing. - Friendly children helped with the entrance gate. Smelled damp and musty.
Floors weren’t clean, gritty underfoot in kitchen area, carpets had scattered crumbs.
Shower had mould and hair.
Heating marginal and lounge fire boost didn’t work.
Old bloodstain found on duvet after stripping bed.
- Gregory (10/5): It was a lovely stay and will definitely return. - The cottage was lovely and cozy. It's located in a serene quiet environment. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the 3 bathrooms were the icing on the cake.
- Colin (8/5): Very good - Fully equipped property, parking, easy access, good communications Disappointed with the following:
No coffee
No fresh milk or bottled water
Only 2 mugs available - one chipped and one stained
No hand soap
- Suzie (6/5): Pleasant - Upon checking in, we discovered they sent the wrong info to access the stable and had sent the information on how to enter the fern instead and someone else was already staying there.
Although The cottage had a really lovely vibe to it. It looked lovely too, after settling in, we noticed the cleanliness was not good at all. The bath had not been cleaned, it was full of hair.
When I moved the baby high char boost seat I found mouldy pasta under neath and the straps were covered in food. The draining board was dirty, the carpets were dirty.. The shower on the smaller bedroom did not have any hot water.. The garden looked pretty, but it was not looked after at all.
We could not work the heating out and when I messaged the owner he asked for a picture of the boiler when I asked where that was I never heard back. Even though the weather had been lovely it did get very cold at night.
Overall for the price, it was good, but they definitely need to work on better communication and cleanliness.
- Lee (5/5): Enjoyed the stay but place was not that clean - Comfy and great location and snuggly Bed sheets looked like they had not been changed, mattress topper was stained with god knows what, bedroom floor looked like it had not been hoovered as there was lumps of mud on the floor. The lounge by settee there was dirt down the side. The kitchen only had one mug in it.
- Anthony (8/5): Comfortable rural location with all the essentials - The property provided everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The location was ideal for a few visits to the local coastal areas and provided some good views of the surrounding countryside and wildlife. There was an easy check in and out without any problems. The heating in the bedroom was difficult to turn on and no instructions were available that I could find. Some areas of the property could use a deep clean, like between the wardrobe and chest of drawers. There was only 1 mug in the kitchen although smaller tea cups were available.
- Louise (7/5): Everything we needed was there - Spacious and private Mattress was very uncomfortable, well used and needs replacing
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - Great space, location and facilities. Would stay again
- Harvey (5/5): Passable - This cottage is set in a lovely, quiet location. The parking is spacious and secure. Unfortunately, there was mould on the blind in the kitchen. There was also a squished bug on one of the other ones. When stripping the bed, we found stains on the mattress protector (I can only assume urine and period stains). The place was very cold too, took ages to heat up, we could not control the temperature.
- Martyn (1/5): A Disaster. NO HEATING. NO customer service. - The property which appears to be a converted shed had no adequate heating. What heating there was then switched off leaving the place unheated. Despite contacting the given support number the issue was not resolved, leaving my wife and myself, both 78, in unheated accommodation in February in freezing conditions. We were obliged to contact a local hotel and arrange alternative lodging for the night. To date I have received no response from the owners to my request for a refund.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (8/5): Great price and a comfortable stay. Beautiful views. - Good facilities with full kitchen and washing machine for laundry. Location is way out in the country and roads are very narrow and not easy to navigate especially in winter time.
Property was clean but there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
