Guest Reviews

- joseph (4/5): Good Location, Room Needs Some Attention - What I liked was that it was close to my destination, and there was plenty of on-street parking available. What I didn’t like was the smell of smoke in the room, and it could really do with a bit of a touch-up and some general refreshing.
- Olufisayo (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at Kelvin house. The room was neat and adequate provisions were made for me. Many thanks.

- Luke (10/5): Great stay would definitely recommend it 👍🏻 - Very cosy, clean , warm ,good shower , comfortable bed ,good parking and big a big T.V
- Shirley (9/5): - Comfy bed. Easy to find. Quiet location. Plenty of parking. Decent breakfast. Microwave fridge and toaster in the room. For a budget priced place it exceeded my expectations. It's self check in and though the instructions look complicated i got in without any problem despite my arrival being after dark (except the door handle was a bit stiff). So stay again if i need somewhere in that area and am nit travelling with my dog.

- Lisa (10/5): - Beds were supurb, very cosy. Near by for shops, bars, very quiet and clean would definitely stay again very helpful staff.
- ophelia (10/5): Perfect - It’s really clean and tidy, the bed/ pillows and quilt are so comfy. They provide you with milk and bread and juice which is such a nice touch! Always a lovely stay here ☺️

- Chloe (7/5): Cheap no frills stay good for working away - Cleanliness was ok but could do with paying more attention to the microwave and other areas where dust is for future bookings. Wasn’t very impressed with the breakfast don’t like the fact that others can use the same products would be better if it was the smaller packs of unopened cereal, jam etc same with the coffee/tea. In the booking it stated there was streaming services but there wasn’t I did talk to the host about this and he apologised and kindly left a nice drink outside my door as a apology and I thought that was very lovely and kind. Room was lovely and warm and bathroom was clean. Communication was good fast response that was brilliant. No loud sounds outside to keep me awake was a good nights sleep.
I would stay again Breakfast improving and just more attention to cleaning

- EWA KUBICKA (8/5): - Microwave and fridge on site. That's what I need for my short stay
- Martin (7/5): Functional and good value for money - Property was functional and well provided for. Bedroom with shared bathroom facilities.
Television and facilities for eating and drinking.
Breakfast provided, cereal, milk and some bread for toast and jam.
Good value for money. Not too sure about so many extension cables and plugs for all the electrical equipment though.
- Blessing (10/5): Exceptional - Room is clean and spacious N/A
- Blessing (10/5): Would book again - Quiet and cosy

- Carl (9/5): Comfy bed, nice ty , hot shower, clean towels at hand microwave. - Good location, good corner market shop, nice chippy 5 mins walk away , good communication, peaceful and quiet, nice neighbours, plenty of parking,
- Ailiesii (7/5): -
- Rosemary (8/5): Comfortable bed. - Handy location for my work trip. Shop nearby was great. The bathroom needs a little upgrade.
The TV remote was not working properly.
- Dyszkant (7/5): -
- Jake (10/5): Will definitely be coming back - Everything. It was just perfect the area the room Nothing
- Vanessa (10/5): Overall pleasant stay - I came to stay here as was close to work. I like the fridge in the room / cooking facilities. I just needed a place chill after work, which this provided. I was able watch tv and relax.
The milk and bread was a real nice touch. Fridge hummed through night maybe needs a built in unit or updating. The fridge is a good asset but shame its so loud. Tv remote could do upgrading was difficult to use. Cleaning maybe needs slight improvement, but as a former cleaner I have found that I do nit pick so maybe thats just me. Doors need bit wd40 on they squeak so I heard the other room use loo 1am.
- Duc Duy (10/5): -
- Kelligan (7/5): Good value for money if you want a base to explore and a bed for the night. - Visiting family in Ferryhill. Normally we would have to stay several miles away, so the location was good. Convenience store 100 metres away. Handover simple. Never met the proprietors, though the room contained fridge, microwave, tea/coffee and the means if a breakfast were in the fridge: milk juice, bread, jam, cornflakes etc. Quiet location. Ten minute walk from the village centre. Twenty minute drive to Durham City. Only two rooms with a shared bathroom: not a problem. No kitchen or shared living space accessible. Communication was vie email, not through Booking.com, so key codes weren't accessible when I could access my email.
- margaret (8/5): Comfortable, good value for budget stay. - Very comfortable, spacious room, very quiet Clearer details about when key code would be sent as sending copy of ID then getting no reply and setting off not knowing what was happening is a bit unnerving
- David (4/5): Room was EFFECTIVELY A BEDSIT, description overhyped used flowery language, a stressful experience - There was plenty of on street parking infront of the property, comfortable bed We suggest people read this description of the property before reading the “flowery language” used in Booking.com to big up the property.
The run up to and the stay was stressful experience. I like to have all the info in place before leaving home. I had to phone owner as hadn’t had code until day & half before arriving, only to be told they don’t send it out until the arrival time on the day. As we were out in wilds of Northumberland I had to waste time finding somewhere I could get wifi to pick up e mail with code.
A small person could have difficulty accessing the key box.
Room was EFFECTIVELY A BEDSIT 1 chair, dressing table doubled up as “table” so couldn’t sit 2 people at table for breakfast, comfortable double bed, wardrobe, fridge and freezer with large flatscreen satellite TV ontop, kettle, toaster, microwave. Other features are also mentioned in Booking.com confirmation which may have been in the wardrobe which we didn’t need to open for a 1night stay. Only tap was in the shared bathroom (toilet, basin, bath with combined shower tap). Prebooked continental breakfast was already provided in the room & consisted of cornflakes with several slices of bread, a part used tub of spread and part used jar of nice jam in the fridge. Had to eat cornflakes with a teaspoon as there were no other spoons. E mail said “Washing up liquid, sponge are in the white box under the bathroom basin if you wish to use” which some may interpret as please wash up after breakfast.
“Toilet” is mentioned early on in the Booking.com list of features, but only later mentioned again as “shared toilet”. As there was at least 1 other room sharing this combined bathroom, stress levels were again high incase the other room was having a bath when we needed the toilet-fortunately this didn’t happen.
Window looked out over back yard of this mid terrace house to the backs of another row of terraced houses. In Booking.
- Vanessa (8/5): - Easy to find and great owner communication. Basic, spacious rooms with very comfortable beds. Would book again if we're back in the area in future
- susannah (8/5): good base to see tourist places. ok price could be a bit cheaper - cereal bread butter spread jam provided in a good sized fridge, room for my medication, working microwave, toaster worked but push down missing but it still worked well . Room warm, room window opened, blind worked. t.v worked was a short power cut all houses affected power off less than ten minuets we took a torch with us shower bath work really well not affected by water pressure drop. pillow lovey bed comfy and very clean small coffee / picnic style table would have been useful. tea towel would have been useful we used our own small hand towel They needed my ID, then needed again a month later (driving licence ) curtains a bit sticky om the rail but worked
A Dog next door barked a bit but not during the night so not too much of a problem,
- Sean (9/5): -
- olga (9/5): - The bed was spacious and comfortable, and the kitchen was well-stocked with plenty of glassware. I had the house to myself, which made for a peaceful stay. Overall, excellent value for the price. The room itself was basic interior but
spacious and comfortable, with a cozy bed and an additional sleeping area on the floor (which I didn’t use). However, the fridge was placed on a dirty piece of plasboard, which didn’t look very clean or stylish. Unfortunately, the experience was affected by noisy neighbors from flat 2, who seemed intoxicated and were loudly coming and going throughout the evening, which made the environment feel less safe.
- Lindsay (10/5): Lovely stay would stay again thank you - Everything was lovely clean easy check in and the breakfast groceries provided were very welcome . Excellent thank you Nothing
- Garner (10/5): Stay here often, always very very clean very organised, and very comfortable xx - Everything xx There was noting i didnt like xx
- Louisa (9/5): -
- Duc Duy (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (3/5): Poor -
- Lynne (10/5): Lovely accommodation. - Everything was provided for a comfortable visit.
I particularly liked the provision of:
Small dining table and chairs.
Fridge (stocked with breakfast items)
Toaster
Plates, bowls, cups, cutlery.
Cleanliness is supported by a no-shoes policy.
Hand sanitiser at the front entrance. The key safe is in the back yard.
- Francis (7/5): Affordable but that's about it. - Clean and spacious room, having a breakfast table was good, also the fridge and toaster were very welcome How to put this delicately ? Ferryhill is, perhaps, not for the fainthearted - as I turned into Kelvin Road there were three police cars and a gathering nearby. Opposite No. 2 a woman seemed to be acting out what had happened with knee movements towards a bemused man on crutches - what some people will do for entertainment on a Saturday evening, eh ? That being said, I had a quiet night and the car was still in one piece the next morning.
Breakfast was cornflakes and orange juice from supplies in the room. There was spread and strawberry jam in the fridge but no bread. Compared with other places I have stayed in further south on my recent trip this seemed underwhelming and a bit pricey.
It's difficult doing the turn the key in the lock and keep the handle fully up when you are loaded with bags trying to get in a front door but that's really the fault of double glazing companies rather than the hosts.
- Biju (9/5): Superb - Very clean, well kept, and looked after. Clean sheets and duvet. Has all kitchen appliances, Kettle Toaster
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable bed, spacious bedroom, nice and clean, close to town
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable bed, very close to where I needed to be, clean and good space
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Wayne (1/5): Bad -
- Taiwo (9/5): Superb -
- Ievgenii (1/5): Bad - It is not a hotel
- Steve (7/5): Good -
- Stephanie (7/5): Was good value for money - Everything in one room was comfortable and clean Remote not working for tv needs individual jam butters
- Mike (7/5): Good - Quiet, adequate for one night, very good value Thought it was in Durham,my mistake
- Christopher (8/5): Very good -
- Lian (10/5): Exceptional - The room was great, and choice of no bath and shower was amazing. 100% would stay there again, little 1 sleep really well due to comfort. Just needed a general bin.
- Sally (1/5): Disappointing. - The wording in the advert indicated a sofa bed, it was only a mattress on the ground and right next to the other bed in the room. It was basically someone's bedroom that they had let out. The bath room had been used and had water still in the tub so wasn't clean. Walls very thin as heard the antics of the neighbouring room to after 2am. Overall didn't feel safe. Would not recommend to others.
- Rob (1/5): Bad -
- Patrick (4/5): Disappointing - comfortable bed. reasonable bathroom its a 2 bedroom terrace house with convoluted entry which was a pain. booked it because it said breakfast included, but there was only locked doors downstairs - no breakfast
- Feher (8/5): Very good -
- Denis (10/5): Very comfortable - Nothing
The room itself was very nice and clean, with a comfortable bed to sleep in. Everything was fine, nothing to not like.
- Hayley (10/5): A lovely comfortable place to stay. Thank you. -
- June (8/5): Very good - The location was next to a beautiful nature walk. The property was perfect. Nothing not to like
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Christopher (7/5): Good -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Clare (9/5): Great accommodation in good location. - Great location- good links to Durham. Clean, cosy, well thought out accommodation. Very comfortable. Liked having a fridge, microwave, toaster and crockery/cutlery to do some basic meals. Breakfast contributions were a nice touch. Comfortable beds. Good value, would stay again. A tea cloth would be handy.
- Ashleigh (7/5): Good - Basic room but good value.
- Rachael (6/5): Fair value, basic and clean - The host was responsive and lockbox was straightforward. Beds confy other than small pullout which you could feel the wooden slats on prominently - was OK for a child. Plenty of street parking. There was no getting away from the fact that the property smelled strongly of weed on arrival. After we opened a window it cleared. The property was otherwise clean. Ferryhill isn't necessarily a glamorous setting but the road is quiet.
- Corrynne (9/5): Superb - Very nice and safe place to stay. Bus stop five minutes away. Nice room. Stuff in the fridge needed to be wiped down, eg the margarine container.
Also, I learnt to always check the toaster setting before use, as it was set to the highest setting and the upstairs smelt like burnt toast for days.
The gate at back is very hard to relatch.
When you take 1 step through the gate, look to the left, the lockboxes are on the wall.
- Ed (3/5): Easy access to Durham city. - Approx.15 minutes drive to Durham city. Booked "bed and breakfast" because of previous reviews.( mixed reviews-ranged from score of 1 upwards)- some excellent) Concerned re a review that mentioned "drugs being offered for sale" in the street. A neighbour denied all knowledge of Kelvin House, which was odd? The document used for ID- standard bus pass. Arrived early to see the property, and how safe the area was. A man was in the house he refused to answer any questions and it was difficult to understand his response's? Regretted making the booking as there are no amendments/changes once booking is made. Received access code to locked key pad at 2pm as text message. A remotely operated premises On street parking. Key pad in backyard, monitored by CCTV cameras. Entrance hall advises-"outdoor shoes to be removed". Rooms up a steep staircase camera monitored. Room- bed, TV, toaster, fridge freezer, kettle, desk, couch. View from window, back yard of other terraced houses, and streets. Breakfast foodstuffs in fridge- 2 slices of dry white bread, wrapped in a food bag, opened/used margarine, opened/used jam spread. Carton on milk+ juice. Tea/coffee/sugar in containers. Did not use any foodstuffs. A shared bathroom. Storage area/shelves already in use with toiletries/lotions/products on shelf from other guests? Was conscious of coughs/talking early morning. Have been contacted twice by telephone by Kelvin House and have been requested to alter/change/ delete this review. Offered 50% monies to be returned to me if I DELETE this review. Consider the practice of TELEPHONING a client after placing a review UNETHICAL and UNACEPTABLE. Very concerned about privacy/safety.
Will not be returning.
- Andy (10/5): Andy - Great place, everything you may need available in room. Check in and key collection easy, very tidy and comfortable, would highly recommend. Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Ayo (9/5): Will stay here again. - Clean. Amenities fairly ok. Courteous staff. Mostly good but breakfast basic (continental) DIY.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Very well maintained, with nice touches. - The outside of the house didn't do the inside any favours. Inside was spotlessly clean. There are some nice touches such as a rail in the bedroom for towels, a fan (very welcome as it was so warm) and green fairy lights down the side of the staircase, marking the stairs in the dark. The second bed was a trundle bed, but it was okay for the two nights.
- Crystalle (8/5): Solo Traveler - Durham City - Room
- Comfortable Massive Bed
- Everything you need is in the bedroom
- Massive TV too
Bathroom
- Fairy Clean (Happy with it)
- Good shower pressure
Parking
- Free parking around the area but i chose to park just right in front of the door 🤣 so convenient if you have lots of stuffs with you
Overall
- Nice place to stay for a night or 2
- Inside is so different from the outside (it's pink!) 😅
- Celan and Tidy place to stay Since my window was left open, the dog barking was a bit disturbing but someone (woman) shouting at it to f***** shut up was more disturbing for me...
20mins drive to the city center and i think bout 1-2hrs by bus ( was disappointed on this coz i thought i xan just leave my car and take the bus to the city but maybe i just didn't checked it well enough - good thing got the car as an option)
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- Saulius (8/5): Very good - Easy to find, free parking nearby. Quiet. Taps - mixer (finally !!! in the whole UK trip ;-). The bathroom is spacious. Good for overnight staying. Internet - good. All instructions to get in were sent via message . Getting in - take keys from a box behind the building. Shared bathroom. Breakfasts included (bread, butter (not fresh), flake corn, milk, coffee, tea, sugar). Third bed - matterace only. TV's remote did not work - the battery was low..
- Val (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kimberly (4/5): Could do better - The bed was very comfortable Lack of communication from owner. Only got the access key code the day of stay.
The area wasn't what was expected.
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Niall (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Requested iron and ironing board by text. They were delivered in 5 minutes! Very responsive - Easy to park Shared bathroom
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (7/5): Pleasant and comfortable - The room was spacious and comfortable. There was a fridge that was stocked with milk and bread and a kettle with tea, coffee and sugar. There was also a microwave Having to share the bathroom
- Kerry (8/5): Very good - Location for us was ideal as we needed a night between Darlington and Durham. Very clean, comfortable bed. Breakfast of toast and cornflakes left in room. I did not like the shared bathroom, although I knew it was going to be shared. My only negative was the occupants of the other room shouting from the room to bathroom at 2.20 ish in the morning when they had made enough noise coming upstairs, which woke me up. Obviously this is not the fault of the owners
- Sharon (1/5): Bad - Nothing, did not stay The property was a normal 2 bed house on an estate ,it wasn't signed,we had to ask a local lady which one it was. Even though the owner was there, he didn't let us in ,instead, he spoke to me from the window and asked me to send him an email of my driving licence. Then he told me to clecte the keys from a key safe in the back garden and he gave us a number to do that. When we got inside, we were told to leave our shoes at the bottom of the stairs and put a pear of dirty old slippers on. The sheard toilet and bath room was at the top of the stairs, and the bedroom was small, but ok, the breakfast was cornflakes in a plastic container stuffed on a shelf near the bed side cabinet. There was a fridge with 4 slices off bread, a bit of butter, and some milk. We paid when we booked. He said if we did stay, we will loose are money.
